The service was friendly and pretty fast, but the food was very disappointing - especially for the price. My 10oz top sirloin was listed in the menu as $24.95, but was $25.95 on my receipt. They also added a $4 "beef surcharge" on top of that. They do have a sign posted when you come in that there will be a surcharge, but they don't say how much on that sign or the menu. So, my mediocre steak was $30. I should've just gotten a 12oz steak from the grocery store that's $30/lb and gotten two extra ounces. Mozzarella sticks were just store-bought frozen ones - nothing to write home about. Mac N Cheese was bad, and was an up-charge side for my steak that comes with a side for another $3. Texas toast was just griddled burger bun. My salad came with beets tho, so that was nice, I guess? Ambiance was essentially a greasy spoon vibe with open kitchen, was likely an American diner before. One or two TVs with sports by the bar seating. I've been trying spots around here since moving to the area, and I'll mark this one off as a "no thank you." I wish I would've gotten the ribs to give them a try, but the special steak lured me in and was a swing and a miss. I can eat a lot better for $45 elsewhere. read more

I always forget how much I like this place. We had the chef's salad and chicken combo. The chef salad has nicely smoked chopped ham and turkey. The chicken combo is a half chicken, ribs (nice and tender), two burger buns, and a side (we had fries). The smoke is nice and light. I like how they have a red sauce (a traditional bbq sauce) and a brown sauce (gravy). This place does a fair amount of to-go orders. read more

We went here and got dinner to go and spent around $80. The ribs were great. My husband really enjoyed them. I ordered the choice top sirloin. We ordered it medium rare, what we got was well done. It was very dry and we ended up throwing most of it out. I will say that this was a really big piece of meat that my son and I were planning to share. It's unfortunate that it was way over cooked. We would probably return but for ribs only. Wouldn't likely order the sirloin again. read more

Vintage beefy wonderland. I was very impressed with how neat and tidy the vintage interior seemed, people care about this place and take pride in making people happy. I recently heard they had a great French Dip sandwich and wow, was that an understatement. And when the friendly server asked how we liked our beef done, I knew this was going to be good. The roll was a little squished, I'd guess they pressed it a bit. But that helped to show just how much beef was packed into the roll. Dense and tender, perfectly pink. Au just was good. A pretty hearty portion too! French fries were plentiful and perfectly done. My salad had a bit too much dressing but that's so minor I just mention it to suggest dressing on the side if you have one. read more

Had 7:00 PM dinner at the Hick'ry Pit on 12/28/25. Food was delicious, Service was very good, but the inside of the restaurant very cold- uncomfortably cold. Spoke with our server, only to be told," yes, it is very cold in here". Would not advise anyone to dine here after the sun sets. Regardless, if the food is very good, you cannot enjoy a meal if the temperature of the restaurant seems colder than the cold outside air! We were excited to try my old home town bbq place. They tend to service take out orders over in house diners. We waited for our server to finish all the pick ups before even greeting us. The ribs are literally smothered in sauce. Not sure why, they were actually pretty good. The Chicken was so dry, it appeared fried. Been wanting to try this place out and pictures looked good that we tried out . First, I would like to say the at there is plenty of parking , but can be a bit tight . Service was nice , and friendly . Once we walked in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch , it was practically empty with a two other customers . The food came out fast , we were checked on throughout our visit . However, this is where this place dropped the ball. I ordered a BBQ chicken and did not get BBQ chicken. Usually you would have the aroma and taste of BBQ. The chicken was dry and look like it was fried . I did not taste any BBQ . The gravy or BBQ sauce that came with chicken was bland , and did not taste like BBQ or your normal gravy . That same sauce or gravy was put on the mash potato. I should have gotten the mash potato plain . It just didn't taste like gravy at all . My son however , enjoyed his club sandwich and fries . If I'm being honest, the amount of times I have driven on Clayton Road, I never knew this place was ever here. One of my managers stumbled across this location and told us that their beef sandwich was bomb. So of course we had to go there and check it out - LOL! It is very much mom and pop owned and its super nostalgic. Greeted by a super sweet waitress who let us sit anywhere. She was super quick and practical when it came to ordering as well as refilling our drinks. My coworker order the beef sandwich and I order the ribs plate with french fries and a side of coleslaw. I tried a piece of my coworkers sandwich and it was honestly bomb like my manager said, definitely will be ordering that again along with their new red BBQ sauce. Their ribs were really good, but I do believe that it could be better. I love to clean a rib bone and it was a little hard to clean the bone because the back bone at the end of the rib was way to hard. Don't get me wrong, the rib was still tender, but having the whole ribs tender is a SUPER plus for me when eating them. I will say, that their new RED BBQ SAUCE is a game changer and I would eat everything with it. Other than that, I would for sure come back for more and see what else they have to offer. I've never heard of charging for ice tea after 2 refills Especially in a restaurant with no air , there food is mediocre, and the last waitress was fired , she was rude to me so I quit coming and I work in the area . I went to school with old owner children an we had a buisness in the strip years ago I knew an was friends with lots of buisnesses all around barneys . In this day over charging and gouging ,nit picking people doesn't fly , very greedy owners , I think I'm going else wear. Barney's is and has been the best BBQ in the Concord area for well over 60 years. Generous portions and reasonable prices help make it even better. The rib, chicken combo is a favorite of ours and comes with half a chicken and five meaty ribs. The sauces are yummy. Husband loves them both and swears there isn't a better sauce out there. The only reason this isn't a one star review is because the woman who helped me was really nice, otherwise this would be a a definite 1 star. I start eating the French fries and they may have been the worst, blandest, unseasoned fries I've ever had. Just to make sure I wasn't insane, I dipped my fries I. This "barbecue sauce" and just locked the sauce off the fry and it has NO TASTE. I'm not gonna lie, this had me shook. I legit thought maybe I had COVID or something and lost my sense of taste. I go to the fridge, grab a bottle of barbecue sauce and try it out. Delicious. This is a long winded way of saying that my food sucked. I've had countless lousy meals in the past 4-5 years but now, hours after eating, I've had to run to the bathroom 2 separate times. Coincidence? Perhaps. 08-20-23 Our family has been coming here since it opened. My grandfather would take each of us cousins for breakfast. My dad would come and pickup ribs for dinner. I totally understand that the original owners sold to another. After my grandfather passed away, my Uncle took up the baton and would bring us cousins here! The service we experienced today was so poor. The waitress had a very lofty attitude and very rude. She completely ignored us and served everyone else. after more than 20 years we keep visiting this restaurant and keep getting the same high quality of food and friendly service. Their prices are comparatively low and portions are big.
