I used to come here for their yummy salads however, last time I went, I was really disappointed. The person who was running the cash register was the same person who was putting together my salad and she didn't wash her hands or wear gloves. If you miss the OG Kasper's (Kasper's with a K, one of a kind) on Telegraph in Oakland, Lisa V's is a hidden gem at the edge of Concord that reminds you of the OG restaurant. A friend and I were looking for a place that grills hot dogs or sausages like Top Dog in Berkeley. Our search popped up with Lisa V's even though they do not grill the hot dog so we headed out to try. We were both pleasantly surprised. I had two traditional hot dogs with relish, chopped onions, chopped tomatoes and mustard which made it easy to eat. I also had potato salad which is homemade and tasty. My friend had a hot dog with sauerkraut and a taco. I thought the taco was unusual for a hot dog restaurant but my friend said the taco had really good flavor and the meat was tender. He said for it not being a Taqueria it was a nicely constructed taco. The hot dogs have a little bit of a snap when you bite, a tinge more of spice than a Casper's (with a C) hot dog, good flavor, perfectly steamed bun and perfect blend on condiments. For a great hot dog, this the place to east of the Caldecott Tunnel. To fill that hood hot dog craving, Lisa V's won't disappoint. read more

Lisa's has been my favorite place since high school was many years ago. My son grew up on them as well. It started as Lisa's house of hot dogs and is now Lisa V's. It has been a minute since we have been there. Git chili dogs today. Very surprised to see the very limited amount of chili given and canned poor flavor. Not the chili dogs that we know and have loved for over 30 years. Very disappointing. I also was amazed that they are requiring the customer to pay extra for not paying with cash. She said she " can't afford to pay the credit card charges anymore". That is the cost of doing business. You can't expect us to be alright with being charged 3.5% extra to Pay for the product we are purchasing from you to cover your credit card fees. Doesn't seem like a huge amount at all, but the principal is large. Cash is the least used form of currency. Charging me for not using it is ridiculous. Used to LOVE this place but after a recent purchase, just super disappointed. A hot dog and burrito cost me $28, that's just crazy to begin with. The hot dog was supposed to be a chili cheese dog but there was barely any chili or cheese. The "chicken" burrito had barely any chicken and was mostly rice and beans. I think they "get you" with the "add ons", like they asked if I wanted tomatoes and onions on my "Chili cheese dog" without telling me there was a TOTALLY overboard charge for adding those FEW onions and tomatoes on... How else would a hot dog and burrito cost so much??? The hot dog was good but, like I said, barely any chili and the burrito was "meh" with barely any chicken.... We have lived here forever and never got around to trying this place, so finally got around to it. The food is good and simple. No indoor dining yet due to the pandemic. Basic menu, but you get what you expect. As mentioned, the hot dog is a bit thin, but they do pile on the toppings. The potato salad was good and fresh. The chili nachos were laden with goodies and spicy from the jalapenos. The California burrito was big and flavorful. Overall, a good place to grab a quick bite. read more

I craved potato salad today, and my usual place had no salads, so I continued down the road to Lisa V's on Clayton in Concord. Lisa V's is in the same shopping center where K-Mart was. It's just across the driveway from Fiore. Lisa V's has some great potato salad; it's her dad's recipe. From what I understand, they have been in business for over 40 years and have quite a local following. Whenever someone asks about good potato salad, Lisa V's is mentioned. They also have hot dogs, street tacos, soups, burritos, homemade chili, nachos, and salads. Many rave about their street tacos, but I have yet to try them. It's a tiny but cute space with several tables inside and outside. I visited in the past and enjoyed a cheese dog and potato salad. Today I scored the potato salad and a tasty cup of chicken tortilla soup. It was perfect light lunch and satisfied my hankering. read more

I was looking forward to trying this place because of the reviews. I'm going to be nice and give three stars because the food was good. The business and their practices deserve two stars. I ordered the house dog and the chili dog both were good. I wasn't blown away but they are just hot dogs. Here's the thing they charge $3.25 for what MIGHT be at the most a 16 oz soda. That's high even for a fast food restaurant that lets you GET REFILLS. I haven't heard of a place not allowing refills on sodas from a soda machine in .... 20 years (?) Lisa's doesn't allow this and has their machine behind w a big sign saying so lol. This sends a STRONG message to your customers. We are cheap We don't trust you to not abuse the number refills you take. I mean at least sell bottled 20 oz sodas if you don't want to deal w the machines and refills. Once I figured this out I asked for just a little ice. A woman I'm assuming is Lisa (?) was clearly annoyed as she dumped out the ice and started over. To be fair the ice probably cost her $ .000000008 lol Once I got my food I asked for ketchup and mustard to go. They were totally flustered and surprised by that question. Ummm you own a hot dog restaurant! You have never thought of or been asked that before? Come on people. I was told " well there is ketchup on it" (there wasn't) while she scrambled to put together a container. I drove out to check them out and it was worth the extra distance. The hotdog is very similar (one could say the same) to Capers dog (bun, dog and toppings), but the potato salad was worth the extra effort to get there over Caspers. I also tried the Chili Dog with cheese. The chilli was ok, seemed homemade, but not spicy at all and for me, hotdog chili should have no beans, it should be more of a meat sauce condiment. I went to Lisa's for years when I lived in Clayton from the 1980s until February/2013. Despite how I'm now in Martinez and therefore am out of the way, I still come in here when the opportunity arises. The quality is still just as amazing as back when I first began patroning Lisa's as a young boy. Lisa truly cares about delivering excellent food to her customers and also loves them. When I think of exemplary small business owners, Lisa definitely comes to mind. There was one instance years ago where my mom pulled up in her car and Lisa knew her hot dog order by heart. She actually made up a hot dog for her right before she approached the counter. That's how professional she is. Her staff, including her sisters Dayna and Sue, are also terrific as well. I love to order the cheese dogs, burritos (whoa are those filling!) and potato salad. I just started eating the potato salad last year upon seeing the glowing reviews of it here. It's delicious! I ended up getting a cheese dog meal special and my husband ordered a hotdog special as well but with chili and he was satisfied. Honestly they have the best buns. Sooo good! I have lived in the area for over 3 years and regret not having tried this place earlier. My husband and I were in the same complex as Lisa V's getting some chores done and decided grab a quick lunch. It's a mom and pop restaurant with two really sweet ladies at the counter. Since my husband is a vegetarian, they happily accommodated to his needs and served vegetarian versions of the dishes we liked. If you are a potato fan, you've got to try their POTATO SALAD. It is creamy and packed with flavor. Next we tried the TACO SALAD which the ladies at the counter highly recommended and I'm glad that they did. This is one dish I'm going to keep going back for. The fact that their beans were homemade reminded me of my mom. The beans were so light and delicious- definitely one of the best ones I've had. Overall the salad was not too heavy and yet filling. The CALIFORNIA BURRITO was also pretty good. We got it without the rice as it was cooked in chicken stock. But the fresh veggies and toppings were enough to satiate our taste buds.
