I have been going to Kasper's for many years. It is true that the lady is unsociable for the most part. But I took the time to be nice to her, and eventually we became a cordial pair. Come to find out, she is the aunt of one of my students--a young man who was brilliant. She comes from an eastern European culture; she's not the first I have encountered with a less-than-sociable demeanor. Imagine how often she's met customers who were rude for no particular reason. Man. I don't know why there's so many bad reviews about this place. The hot dogs were very very good and people are mad at the lady behind the counter for no reason. the reason why people think she seems "rude" is because she comes from Russia / Ukraine and speaks 4 different languages which, when spoken, "sounds like" being rude, but do not worry. Shes not. She made me my hot dog and was very polite. A simple please and thank you can make someone's day. :) It was exciting for me because I was born in Russia myself and you don't meet too many people from that area. :) As for the ambiance, it's your typical Casper's / Kaspers with tables and the colorful stools. I bought 5 hot dogs, my family enjoyed them. The service was good. The restaurant was clean. The lady everyone is complaining about was fine, she's all business, asked how I wanted my hot dogs, made them quick and correct. I paid, I said thank you, she said thank you and was out of there in 5 minutes. You guys are the rude ones, she speaks perfect English with an accent. Not at all difficult to understand. I have been a Caspers/Kaspers Customer since the 1970's. But today was the last time I'll ever go to the Kaspers at 3474 Clayton Road in Concord. While waiting for an Uber, I walked in and ordered 2 Kaspers Dogs, Chips and a Soda. My ride arrived and I exited the place. My driver had a small plastic disposable plate to throw away. I said I'd throw it away for him. I took his disposable plate, while still drinking my drink purchased at Kasper's, walked back in and threw it into the trash can. The Russian or Ukrainian Lady that always works there starts yelling at me. Shouting that I have no right to throw a piece of trash into her garbage that doesn't come from her shop. I pointed out to her that I was a customer and was still drinking my soda purchased here. She then threatened to call the Police. I flatly told her to please call them and that I'd gladly wait also that she was being ridiculous. She again shouted; that I cannot put anything not from her store into her trash. I said that's ridiculous and that after being a loyal customer for 50 years, I would never come back. She said, "Good I don't want you back." This is utterly reprehensible. I will make sure that everyone I know doesn't patronize this business. Folks, you better not throw your gum wrappers, empty cigarette packs, or worse, pick up a piece of trash from in front of their front door and try to throw it away there. Unbelievable! read more

I usually go to Casper's in Hayward and love the ladies there--they're always great. This time, I happened to be in Concord with some friends and convinced them to have lunch at Kasper's. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The blonde-haired lady behind the counter was very rude and had a terrible attitude. We received our hotdogs and decided to eat in, but the atmosphere was awful. The whole time we were there, she was loudly arguing with someone on the phone, making it uncomfortable. She even went to the back but continued her loud conversation. Meanwhile, other customers came in, waited in line, and left after listening to her yelling on the phone. It was such a poor experience overall--not the kind of place you want to have lunch. Will not be having lunch there again read more

So I come here to get lunch and I witnessed the lady taking out the trash. She goes to the sink and rinses her hands off with water, I very nicely ask her aren't you going to use soap after taking the trash out? She tells me no she does not use soap. And then I ask her can you please use soap I would feel more comfortable If you did, she did re wash her hands with soap, But then had a very nasty attitude with me the rest my visit. I am pretty sure that OSHA laws say they need to wash their hands with soap imagine how much of the food she is contaminating we just got out of a whole pandemic. Got a sauerkraut dog at lunch and ate it there, but the sauerkraut and tomato made the bun super soggy. The service was fast. Overall not bad, but maybe get ingredients that have the potential to make the bun soggy on the side if possible. read more

I will never go to this Kasper's again. Customer service was terrible. The older blonde lady behind the counter was extremely rude. I asked for relish on my cheese dog and she gave me one little teaspoon. When I asked for more she reluctantly gave me a half teaspoon more. I added a soda to my order and it seemed to annoy her. I really don't know how this place stays in business. I lived just a few streets away from this place for 18 years, and it was almost ALWAYS empty. No customers. I went in one day just to check it out. No customers, *very* basic hot dog menu, potato chips and soda. That's it. That is the total extent of their menu. The dog was nothing special... As I said, for 18 years I saw that place empty every day, and could count on one hand, the number of times I saw customers in there or getting takeout. I think it's a front for something else, but I can't say what, here or I'll get in trouble. The hot dogs are DELICIOUS - but ordering is DIFFICULT. The older gentleman that works here doesn't understand English very well and gets frustrated at the customer about it. Also, being here in early August, I was EXTREMELY disappointed to walk in and find the A/C was not on. I roasted the entire time I was in the building. I really hope these problems get fixed. The food is delicious but the entire experience is such a letdown that I can see it negatively effecting the business. Please, store owner, be nicer to your customers. I ordered the chili cheese dog without onions. I'll NEVER EVER EVER go back. We should have checked the reviews before driving here. The place was empty except for couple people (without food or drink) taking about anti music stuff. I carried my food around trying to find a seat away from them so they didn't feel like I'm listening to them and give them their space. I noticed an odor, odd one, coming from my tray. After sitting on a seat without backs which hurt my back and also they are bolted to the ground so if you have a gut, it makes sitting and facing your food difficult. Kasper's with a "K"! Don't be fooled by Casper's with a "C" if you're looking for the original Chicago-style hot dog from the Armenian who started it all in Oakland, Kasper Koojoolian. These are the BEST hot dogs in the East Bay...bar none! These hot dogs are 100% beef, unlike the ones sold by Casper's. This is easily verified by looking at the ingredients of the Casper's hot dogs sold at Costco. Oakland, San Leandro, Castro Valley, Pleasanton, and Concord are the last Kasper's locations that are still running. I've seen the Fremont and Hayward locations close in recent years so I'm hoping the other five are here to stay! On a related note, I would love it if the "Original" location on 45th and Telegraph in Oakland would reopen. That place has been closed since 2003. Anyway, whenever I come to Kasper's, I always order the 1/4lb-er with cheese, tomatoes, and ketchup. YUM!...I'm hungry just thinking about it! The reviews stating the blonde woman employee is rude are 100% correct. She asked my boyfriend if he wanted everything on his hot dog and when he said yes then she asked "ketchup and mayo too?" and he said yes. I told her I wanted the same as him with everything on it and then when I opened mine at the table and it didn't have mayo and ketchup on it I went back up and asked for it- she said with attitude that I needed to ask for that before and placed the bottles on the counter for me to grab. I told her she could add the sauces (so I didn't touch the bottles she touches while making everyone's hot dogs- did she know my hands were clean?? Seems like a health code concern to me) and she said "no, you do it". Don't know if she was just mad I kept her from chatting with the one other person in the restaurant or what but unfortunately, even though the hot dog was fine, I will not be returning. Having been an infrequent fan of Kasper's hot dogs for many years, I feel that actually works to my benefit. Going when I really want to vs constantly, my taste buds and my perception remain fresh and sensitive to quality or lack there of. The same goes for how I'm treated. First the experience. I walked in and there were absolutely no customers, in fact there wasn't even a person behind the counter. It wasn't until the door made a substantial amount of noise closing that someone came out from a back room. And who came out seemed to be a foreign agent who was not happy to have a customer. Her demeanor was as if I had insulted someone in the family or interrupted an important download of classified documents or something. Throughout the whole ordering experience, her attitude is it it was more of a hassle to make some money then to not make any. And boy was some money made, in a relative sense. The hotdog I received was small, the condiments were minimal, but the price was almost triple what I would pay at Costco. The taste was nothing to write home about, at least in a positive sense. The only reason I'm including more than one star is because the store was open and I had a taste for a hotdog. Maybe if a different staff person is in there, you will have a better experience. As for me, being that I can't really find anything positive in this regard, I doubt I will be visiting this particular location again. If you choose to, I hope your experience is much better. Maybe everyone deserves to have an off day here and there, however those should be left at home as much as possible. read more

All my years of eating Kaspers I have never experienced my chili cheese dog being slopped together as if I was a DOG or a PIG. I enjoyed reading the reviews of this place. I stop in every once in a while when I am close by and need a dog fix. Their hot dogs bring back a childhood memory. I grew up in NY and the hot dog truck would come by. Back then they cost .25 cents. Now they are over $5.00. But the truck had the same boiled dog and I would always get it with lots of mustard and kraut. That is what I get at Kasper's and it takes me back to those olden days. Truthfully, I prefer a grilled kosher dog from a Jewish deli but there is nothing like it here. Basically the dog is decent. The German woman is a trip. She is not mean just totally distant. I do not believe she ever heard of customer service. I think today was the first time she kind of said thank you to me after I said thank you. It was low under her breath but it was there. I drive past this place almost daily yet never stopped. I do love a good Casper so I decided to stop by. I literally told this 10 second story to the old lady behind the counter. I got crickets. Lmao. After reading the reviews I can see I'm not alone when I say I felt less than welcome but hey I didn't go there for the service. It's all takeout right now anyway. I ordered the quarter pound Casper. The dog was prepared very elegantly, you could tell she has plenty of experience handling Caspers this size. I chose my toppings and it looked really good. Nice and neat. I don't like when dogs look a mess. Biting into it was a joy. My teeth sank right into everything and it made no messes. The fresh tomatoes and onions were cut perfectly. I would say if I ever felt like a Casper again I wouldn't mind coming back. read more

(the old kind that has diagonal parking in front). there's seating here but atmosphere is sterile. eats: kaspar dog(3.09) -bun wasn't steamed, just room temperature -tomatoes large chucks, soggy not crunchy, not so fresh -dog appeared to have a snap, not as juicy as i thought it would be. dog notes: -below the standards of a kaspar, thus 2 stars -slight aftertaste. -no old ladies here, just 2 middle easternern lasses. read more

I've been here once, after driving by for a year and never stopping in. I love Casper's dogs, so I thought I would give Kasper's a try. They were okay. The dog itself was a different recipe that was decent, but not my favorite. The toppings were fresh. The bun was not steamed and that made the whole experience bad. The russian (?) couple running the place was very nice. The restaurant had a nice small-town local feel. One big recommendation, if the owners read this: start steaming the buns. Seeing nothing but negative stars is a little scary; however, this place really isn't that bad. At least it wasn't on the day my friend and I showed up. Besides Kasper's hot dogs being so damn good, the older German woman (I think she's German at least) is very sweet, and is also a freaking pro at assembling the dogs. She was extremely quick, and the dogs looked like a work of art when she was done, not some sloppy mess. Plus, she was very friendly and talkative. The last two times we have tried to make purchases from this establishment, they had closed early. An 8 PM closing time, does not mean that we close at 7:30 PM. When your restaurant hasn't been remodeled in about 40 years, and all your employees act like you are bothering them when you try to order, do you think it is the best idea to continually close early?
