We asked for all rice this time because I just couldn't like their mac salad and it would always go to waste. I called in to notify that we didn't get any musubi sauce and the man said we have to ask for it...which we did and were told it was in the bag. He asked if I wanted to go back so I said yes, we'll get a katsu and musubi sauce. My partner went back after work and the girl was giving him a difficult time just picking it up. She kept asking "you came earlier right?" He answered yes and she didn't even want to give the katsu sauce, but ended up giving a smaller container of it. It was already an inconvenience that we had to wait to eat what was supposed to be part of our lunch, but does it hurt the business that bad to give an extra katsu sauce for having to drive back? I first attempted to enter the lobby, only to be told by another customer standing outside that it was closed. Fair enough. I headed to the drive-thru instead, where the customer ahead of me was sitting at the speaker looking at their phone. After several minutes, it didn't appear anyone inside was helping them, so I gave up on the drive-thru and pulled into one of the ordering stalls. I pressed the button and, after a short wait, spoke with an employee who told me someone would be out "in a few minutes" with my order. Apparently, at this Sonic, "a few minutes" is a highly flexible unit of measurement. After about 15 minutes with nobody coming out, I pressed the button again. Then I waited some more. When someone finally responded, I reminded them that I was still sitting there waiting to receive my order. This would have been the perfect opportunity for a simple, "Sorry about the wait." Instead, I was told that I should have gone inside or used the drive-thru. That was an interesting suggestion considering the lobby was supposedly closed and the drive-thru was the reason I had moved to the stall in the first place. I told the employee, "Okay, I'm coming inside." I moved my car, walked into the lobby, and was immediately told by another employee that the lobby was closed. So, just to make sure I understood the situation correctly: the lobby was closed, the drive-thru wasn't moving, nobody came to the stall, and when I asked why I was still waiting, I was instructed to go inside the closed lobby. At some point, ordering fast food should not require this much problem-solving. Sonic is literally designed around giving customers multiple ways to order. Somehow this location managed to make every one of them ineffective. After wasting more than 15 minutes, I finally left without ever getting help or receiving an order. And honestly, the wait itself wasn't even the worst part. Restaurants get busy. Staffing shortages happen. Delays happen. What made this experience especially poor was the complete lack of organization, communication and basic customer service. Nobody apologized for leaving me sitting there, nobody seemed particularly interested in resolving the situation, and I was instead given contradictory instructions about where I was supposed to go. I came here expecting fast food. I would have happily settled for slow food. What I got was no food. If management is wondering why customers leave frustrated, this experience would make an excellent training video For a first visit to Sonic, this was certainly memorable--just not for any reason that would make me want to return. If you have plenty of time to spare and enjoy being redirected between the lobby, drive-thru and parking stalls while trying to figure out how to actually order something, this location may provide a fascinating evening. The drive-thru lane leading up to the ordering screen and subsequent window is extremely short. This results in the drive-thru line spilling out into either the parking lot, or the street. The problem with both is that if the line spills into the parking lot, it blocks incoming traffic coming from the street level, getting into the parking lot. As well as any traffic trying to get out of the lot from that direction. If the line spills into the street, it blocks street traffic from getting through. And I would imagine quite commonly, traffic comes from both directions, making it confusing who should go next, and who is cutting in front of who. They have quite a large parking lot, so it would not be difficult to block off and mark the directional flow of the drive-thru like most places do. Instead of making it a literal free-for-all. There was a slight mix-up in my order when I pulled up to the window. But thankfully, it was quickly resolved. The lot itself is very sizable, and there are plenty of trash cans available outside. None of which appeared to be overflowing.
