I eat here regularly, about once a month. They're very friendly, the service is great. But I had a weird experience on my most recent visit. I've been wanting to try their tamales. I had a pork tamale on a lunch combo plate, dine-in. Excellent like everything else. I asked what other tamales they have, was told chicken in green sauce, and corn & cheese. They recommended I take home frozen tamales if not eating immediately. I took home one chicken, one cheese & corn. A few days later, steamed them for dinner. Chicken was excellent. The other tamale was 100% masa. It was tasty, light and fluffy. I'd buy it as a side dish, same way I'd eat polenta or grits. But there was no melted cheese, and no corn other than masa being cornmeal. I expected something similar to cheese & chile tamales ive had elsewhere. So I wondered... - did I get a mistake? Did a tamale somehow slip through the preparation process, not get filling? Was it a mistake? or, - is that their cheese & corn tamale... perhaps some cheese flavor or very finely ground cheese that disappears among the corn masa? I'll try to remember to ask next time I go there, but I'm not making a trip for a $4 item. That I ate! I'm kind of hoping others will read this and tell me whether I just got an accidentally unfilled tamale. read more

But this place gave me the best I have had in several years. Great cheese filling, fantastic crispy batter on the outside and mild red tomato sauce. I will definitely be back. I don't think I would do that again. I ordered the half chicken + pork ribs plate with tortillas, rice and beans on the side. Portions were huge. Like overfilled which is great. I absolutely lovveeee this place my old friend's family owns this place. She was the one who introduced me to this place and man I fell in love with it the moment I had my first bite! You will always be greeted with a warm welcome and a sweet old lady ready to take your order! My bf was really craving some bomb a** Mexican food and we were in my hometown so I told him about this place. I ordered myself a birria plate with extra rice instead of beans. I ordered my bf Cameron de Diablo his favorite! He absolutely fell in love with his food the spice of the shrimp were to his liking which is hard because he loves his food SPICY! If I could give this place 100 stars, I would! The food is consistently great, and I'm usually the only non-Latino in there! Today, I co-hosted a baby shower for some friends and volunteered to get the food. I immediately thought of Mercado Del Sol because their food is amazingly good, I love supporting small businesses, and you can never go wrong with Mexican food at a party! I already knew what I wanted to order, as I had been looking at their menu for weeks prior to placing my order. When I finally went in, Fabian, the owner, sat down with me and helped me with portions/sizes for 40 adults. I got a large tray of rotisserie chicken (64 pieces), 5lbs of birria de res, 2 dozen chicken enchiladas, 1 dozen cheese enchiladas, a tray of rice, a tray of beans, 2 packs of tortillas, a tray of guacamole, and 2 large containers of salsas, plus chips. When I arrived to pick everything up this morning at 9:45am, it was all packed and ready! Fabian loaded everything into my car for me, confirming my entire order as he loaded each tray. And the food was a HIT!! There was nothing left over, and I had several people ask me where I had gotten the food from! I highly recommend this place, whether you're just picking up a meal for yourself, or you're feeding an army of people - you won't be disappointed! read more

I found out about this restaurant from a friend as he raved about the rotisserie chicken. I'm so happy to try it because, Move over Costco rotisserie chicken, you've been replaced! The chicken was so juicy, especially the skin (it wasn't dry at all), they give you plenty of food for a fraction of the cost, I tried the ribs and that was also delicious and had enough seasoning for my taste. I think the ribs are brought out after 4pm (pls call to make sure). The prices for all their combo meals and ala carte menus are reasonable, the restaurant is clean, it has an adequate amount of tables and chairs to dine-in. The lady at the register is always so polite and the gentleman that's chopping everything is really nice and welcoming. The parking can be a bit of a challenge. It's only because their food is that good! I would definitely suggest calling before ordering food because you want go make sure they have enough chicken and ribs (if that's your go to) they also have a lot of pick up orders and they also offer catering orders. By far the absolute worst carnitas I have ever had and I think you would have a hard time finding worse in the entire bay area. When I say they were dry, they were sandpaper quality and hard/ tough consistency. Looked like they were boiled in water just long enough to cook but not get tender at all . ZERO flavor, but had the smell/ taste of leftover or reheated meat. They were absolutely inedible. I threw the entire thing away. Glad I only ordered one pound. My partner and I found this place in Google looking for Mexican restaurants near us and as we were in Concord we decided to give them a try. This was Thursday evening February 8th. Around 7:30 pm. Both of us ordered the #4 Taco Plate: Carnitas, they offer soft or crispy, so we requested soft. The lady at the counter was very friendly and accommodating. The place is clean and well-lit. Plenty of seating. Their menu is displayed above the counter. To the right of the register area is where they have their rotisserie chicken and baby back ribs so inviting too! To the right of this steam table is their salsa bar. The tacos were delivered by another very sweet waitperson and oh man! Three tacos generously filled with carnitas which were so good, so juicy and so tasty. Included on our plates were refried beans topped with cheese and Mexican rice, with peas and corn in the rice. I enjoy my rice this way and the beans... just wonderful! Their salsa, which we requested as mild was very tasty and not too hot in the heat index, with green & red salsa added to the plates. We weren't able to finish our plates and asked for to-go containers and when we were leaving the lady at the counter asked us if we'd like a bag. We will be coming back for sure! The remaining tacos translated very well the next day. Unfortunately, and this isn't their fault plus we weren't accosted but, in the empty storefront next door there were some unhoused, in sleeping bags staying out of the elements and trying to stay warm in their surroundings. Right next to a Mexican supermarket this place is a gem. It's kinda small but has decent seating and is clean. The food is all on the board with the prices next to it. We got the flautas and steak taco meals and they were so flavorful. The steak is juicy and well seasoned and the beans are some of the best I've tasted. This is my go to restaurant for Mexican BBQ baby back ribs. I think they are marinated in a citrus based recipe that includes garlic. The ribs are meaty, tender and flavorful so you can eat them straight up with no sauce. I ordered ribs and arroz to go for dinner. For lunch, I got a pork tamale and two crunchy tacos, al pastor and carnitas. The tamale was excellent this trip. The masa was moist and flavorful, nice balance of meat to masa, came out great. My buddy and I both liked the al pastor, he loved the carne asada, said the lamb was okay and we both thought the carnitas although tender could have used more seasoning. The salad is a nice touch and the chips were good. The staff is very nice and stopped by to see how we liked the food and if needed anything. On the next trip I'll my buddy wants to try the chili rellenos and I might try the enchiladas and sopes. Definitely 4.5 stars give this place a try, good value, food and service. I love everything I have tried here. Chiles rellenos, quesobirria, QUESOCAMERON!, Caldo De Res, their guacamole, beans and rice (and I don't even like beans and rice), their rotisserie chicken (and I am super picky about chicken), and all their meats. Everything is made with fresh spices, and the quality and taste of their food is always consistent.
