What a GEM of a find! I was craving some good Mexican food and Tacos El Patrón came up on Yelp as a spot to visit. Don't let the small size of the restaurant fool you, this is a MUST go to for some delicious food Inside the restaurant was very clean, extremely friendly service and the food - yep A+. The chile verde was fantastic, not too fatty like some places serve, coupled with some of the best flour tortillas I've had north of San Diego!

While in the area, we wanted to try a place that my girlfriend's coworker recommended and more importantly had a good amount of vegetarian/pescatarian options for my girlfriend's restrictions for lent. The place was pretty unassuming, with a short parking alleyway next to a gas station. However the inside (which it seems like was renovated a year ago, was really nice and inviting. It was spacious with a great bar area and even an outside patio area for some choice in where you wanna sit. The servers were really nice getting us started with drinks, chips and salsa, and a slew of different hot sauce bottles. they ranged from mild, to pretty hot and my favorites were the salsa verde and orange (some type of habanero?) sauces. The menu was really well organized and easy to navigate. One of the cool things is that if you order just 2 or more tacos (which are pricy to be fair but ginormous and filling), you can order some free sides and they provide plenty of it. I ordered the Norteno and Vampiro tacos while my partner ordered the Pescado and Patron. Norteno: 5/5 The first one I tried and it blew my socks off. The star of basically all of the specialty tacos is the fried cheese on the tortilla. It was luscious and charred nicely and gave a great backdrop to all of the toppings regardless of what you choose. The norteno, other than the cheese is a standard carne asada with pepper and cabbage slaw essentially and was nice and refreshing to start. Vampiro: 10/5 One of my favorite tacos (or in this case tostadas) I have ever had. Essentially a suped up version of the norteno but exchange the slaw for street taco toppings like cilantro onions and guacamole. It was kind of overwhelming how good it was that a few bites in you get somewhat full off of the flavors. Pescado: 5/5 nice and crispy and invoked a lot of the vibes of getting fish tacos on the beach in SoCal. The pico really shone on this one + the orange sauce over top was really nice. Patron: 5/5 tons of juicy shrimp - very simple compared to the others but great nonetheless. Sides: 5/5 Refried beans were the star here as it had all of that greasy lard flavor that everyone loves. The charred onions and nopales were great as well. The agua Fresca we ordered was solid as well. Ultimately this surprised us in such a great way. It is up there with some of the best Mexican restaurants we've tried in the Bay Area and it's no doubt worth a drive to if you are ever around the Concord/Walnut Creek area. Will be coming back soon to try the rest of the menu.

I'm going to be dreaming about this place until we go again... it's THAT good!!! The street tacos are HUGE by the way and loaded with meat. You definitely get your moneys worth. The birria was amazing I'd definitely get that again! Service was kind and efficient. Food came out fast and fresh! Plenty of parking! I'd highly recommend!

Lengua was cooked to perfection. Skip the mole sauce

My sister introduced me to this place. She in turn discovered it thru her son's baseball team. They would congregate here after games played in the area. Super yummy food. Appreciate the free chips with salsa that is moderately spicy. Also enjoyed the sauces in the squeeze bottles with varying levels of spice. Fav menu items so far are the simple street tacos. Just cilantro, onions, and a choice of protein. Squeeze some lime and salsa, I'm a happy camper.

I'll take a second basket! Fresh chips with pico de gallo. Hell yeah!

The tacos and chips here are AMAZING! Once seated, you will receive a basket of chips with a pico de gallo salsa. The chips are freshly made, warm, light, crispy, and OH SO GOOD AND ADDICTING! The pico de gallo is mild and made with fresh ingredients. Along with the chips, the waitress will put on the table 4 little squeeze bottles of different salsas. Each one is a certified flavor bomb! It will be explained either going from left to right or vice versa, it is mild to hot. My favorites are the 1st mild green salsa which is tangy , the 2nd mild/ medium is the avocado which is cool and creamy to the taste palette, and finally the super spicy orange one which turns up the heat real quick but in such a elevating way. Keep a cup of ice water next to you hahaha If ordering a TACO ESPECIAL, they are packed. The TACO PATRÓN has shrimp, cheese, guacamole, and pico de gallo. Super good! The TACO DE PESCADO has battered fish, cabbage, pico de gallo, and topped with a homemade chipotle cream- smoky and slightly sweet. All the toppings on this one are piled and it's big! The STREET TACO I enjoyed is the Pastor which is marinated pork. *If you order 2 + tacos, you can get free sides. You can choose from grilled onions, radishes, cactus, and refried beans. I chose all 4! They complimented the chips and tacos. The Aguas Fresca that is super refreshing is the watermelon! High five to it having actual watermelon juice in it! Customer service is so friendly and quick. Asking for refills of water or more chips was easy. They are very attentive. The place itself is nice and comfortable. Go with friends and/ or family to get tasty food and catch up! There is plenty of seats and available parking.

Visited for a group lunch around 1 on Valentines and was blown away by this place. It was packed but we lucked out and grabbed a table just as another group was leaving. The parking lot was full so we had to park around the corner and walk over, both good signs that the place is well loved. Our server was very nice and we received our food very quickly. I am still amazed they had beef tongue, it's usually a bit niche and harder to find so it was a nice surprise. The food quality was spectacular with amazing flavor. The beef tongue and chicken in particular stood out as my favorites but everyone enjoyed their dishes. Prices were super reasonable which made it even better. Will absolutely visit again.

Wow, first time here, and it was fantastic! Let's go step-by-step: Easy access off 680 Nondescript exterior Parking was easy Interior was very nice Incredibly clean Servers were smiling, happy, polite Everyone in kitchen seemed happy to be there Margarita menu was deep and creative, and quite delicious (tamarind straw a nice touch) Free chips and salsa We had tacos and tostadas: all were delicious! Prices were just right We've added Tacos El Patron to our short list of go-to places!

They've expanded and now have a full seating area and a bar. Parking is still limited. Welcomed as soon as you walk in, the waiting area is very quaint. You are handed a menu and told to pick your seat. They have tables, bar seating and booths available. Daily specials are available too. I tired the chicken, asada and fish taco. If you order two tacos you get a free side. I picked beans. The host will bring a few variations of their salsas. Complimentary chips and salsa for the table. Ask for their chipotle sauce it really amplifies the meal. Food is decent could use more flavor but if you're hungry and in the area it gets the job done.

Asada Breakfast Burrito
Keanna W.

Came for the breakfast burritos and left completely satisfied. We ordered the asada breakfast burritos, and my husband also added a birria taco. He grabbed a beer, and I went with the prickly pear mimosa--a great combo for a laid-back brunch stop. The breakfast burritos were a really good size: hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The ratio of meat to eggs was perfectly balanced, and the crunch from the hash browns took it to the next level. The cheese was just right--not overpowering--and honestly, the burrito didn't even need extras. That said, the side salsas (tomatillo, avocado, and roja) added depth and made each bite even better. The mimosa was solid too--not overly sweet, which I appreciated. Tacos El Patrón still has it. This is one of our go-to spots whenever we're in the area because they consistently deliver and never disappoint.

Small taqueria that has the vibe that it's family owned and operated. It's located in a small /tight strip mall and the space isn't huge, but there are a good amount of tables and a bar area. My brother's family loves this spot and we decided to eat dinner here because we were in the area shopping. The service was friendly. We were greeted and seating pretty much right away and they were very helpful with the menu. I ended up ordering two tacos, which allows you to get a free side, so I picked the beans. I got an asada taco and a pastor taco. They definitely don't skimp on the toppings and the meat was very flavorful. I'm a big fan of their salsas as well! They give you chips and salsa when you come in and dine there and they give you a couple of squeeze bottles of their other salsas to use with your meal. Because there is a bar there, there's a good selection of beverages, but I was taking it easy and got an order of their tasty horchata. Just a great spot all around with delicious food and more than reasonable prices. There's a parking lot so parking was easy to find. It is pretty tiny and is one of those one way parking lots/roads.

Pork Belly Taco | Taco de Chicharron
Dominic V.

This place is a bit of a hole in the wall with a small parking lot. The restaurant itself is a decent size. They used to just be a to go place but they made enough to expand, that tells you a lot about the place, it is delicious. The service is really good here. We have been asked multiple times if everything was ok and if it wasn't or if something was missing, they brought it out right away. I got their carne asada torta and a pork belly taco. The carne asada was well seasoned. The torta bread was well toasted with a good amount of mayo. There were only a few slices of tomatoes and avocado though, so I was hoping for more but the amount of meat made up for it. The pork belly taco was pretty much chicharrones. It was all crispy which I enjoyed. I'm coming back here for their birria... anything. It looked so good when other people ordered it.

If you're looking for authentic Mexican food done right, Tacos El Patron is a must-visit. The ceviche was absolutely amazing--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The tacos were just as delicious, packed with great taste and cooked to perfection. What really stood out, though, was the staff. Everyone was so friendly and inviting, making the whole experience even better. You can tell they truly care about their customers. Highly recommend stopping by--you won't be disappointed!

Drove by and it caught my eye! Tacos El Patron (the boss's tacos) just by the name alone, I decided to try it out. Upon entering I was welcomed by a very lovely ambiance. A warm family feel vibe. Great staff, Chips and salsa bar on deck. As I glanced at the menu I found many quesabirria options on the menu. I then realized I had entered a wonderful Birrieria! Upon receiving my Birria plate with its delicious consumé, I was impressed with be size of their quesabirrias. When I dipped my first taco in the consumé and bit into a heaping mouthful of this delicious taco, I knew I was in heaven. Every last bite was the best ever! It's comfort at it's highest. Best recipe that I've ever tasted. I will definitely be back at least once a week. I'm hooked! A must try! You will also be hooked once you take your first bite. Huge portions. So come with an empty stomach.

3 tacos: Pescado, Birria, birria with shrimp.

It's one of those rare spots that stays consistently delicious no matter how many times you go, which is why I've happily supported them for so long. Their rotisserie chicken is out-of-this-world good--super juicy, perfectly seasoned, and roasted so the skin has that irresistible golden flavor. Every time I pick one up, I'm reminded why I've been coming here for so long. And the sides? Honestly, they're just as crave-worthy. The rice and beans are the ultimate comfort combo--flavorful, warm, and exactly what you want next to that chicken. The fresh tortillas are a game-changer: soft, warm, and perfect for making little tacos on the spot. And their salsa? Bright, fresh, and packed with just enough heat to make everything pop. I can't forget the carnitas either. After all these years, they remain some of the best I've had anywhere--tender, flavorful, with those crispy edges that make you want to order them again the moment you finish. There's a ton of seating inside, and everything is very spacious. Though, I do have to say it always feels incredibly empty for some reason and there's never anybody actually inside outside of a few tables, but they do have tons of takeout so perhaps that's the tradeoff. However, don't let the lack of eating patrons inside the place put you off. This taqueria offers a good variety of different options as any taqueria would offer, and many of the options have pictures and stuff with it. The service here is, kind of hit or miss. The people in the front usually aren't overly friendly, and will sometimes feel like they're just there until the clock turns work over. Sometimes they're bordering on rude as they just kind of give you an indifferent stare as you're ordering, or will just feel as if they're half listening and not even looking up. The service was a bit better when I dined in, so perhaps maybe it's just the takeout, although it's usually the same person for both. Price wise, it's certainly not going to be cheap. If you want the best bang for your buck around here, El Aguila probably won't be it as there's a plethora of taquerias in this area. Food quality wise, it's pretty good overall. There are some tasty dishes here that will certainly warrant the little bit of extra cost here compared to other places. Things that I have tried here are the burritos and the torta. The burritos here are yummy as they they will have ingredients inside the burrito that is slightly different than your cookie cutter burrito at any other place. It really does help adds layers of flavor to it that other places do not offer. However, the best part of it is indeed the fact they grill the outside of the burrito to get that nice flakiness that wrap, and makes it a oh so rewarding experience. Meat portions was okay, but wish it had more especially for the cost. The torta I got was pretty good, as the ingredients inside were pretty typical so nothing really stood out. The break was toasted well, but I do wish it was a bit softer as it may have been to toasted. Should be toasted outside and soft inside, but this one just felt toasted all over. The meat portion also suffers from the same issue as the burrito as that it's not as generous as it could be. However, the flavors and taste were fine. It's certainly a nice place for those who want a bit of a different style of their Mexican cuisine. They have some flavors here that will be atypical of most of the cookie cutter taquerias around. While they are a bit expensive comparatively, the portions are actually decent (minus the meats). You can certainly be filled with just a single burrito. Worth a visit.

It honestly goes with the theme of this place! We decided to order a quesabirria tacos and two regular tacos one alpastor (marinated pork) and one carnitas. Erick asked if I wanted hot sauce or mild I said "do you mind giving me one of each?" Which he replied with oh yes! Our two plates arrived. Chilli relleno and Grilled chicken enchilada. I'm not a fan of the aesthetics of the smallish squair white plates. Reminds me of trying to look upscale. We own plates like these and that didn't work. Wife's enchilada plate was covered with three hot and very tasty chicken filled food bombs plus sides. The chili plate looked a little weak (too much plate showing) but that was the tastiest chilli relleno ever in 40 years of me enjoying these. Served hot with cheese filled up to the ying yang, an extra spiciness I have never had before that I loved and me wishing I had a spoon to scrape up the end of the sauce. Unfortunately the smallish rice and bean servings on both plates were luke warm and tasted so so. . I had similar hotter to those with tv dinners back in the day. The two plates and a coke at $43 has me scratching my chin on whether we will make that drive again. That is unless it is Sunday. Then possibly. .

Whenever I visit a Mexican restaurant, I always set my sights on the carne asada super burrito. The…read morefirst time I tried it at Isla, however, I was completely let down--the meat was bland and the burrito felt stale. After giving it some thought, I decided to return and explore what it was about Isla that everyone raved over. This time around, I ordered the fish tacos, and I was hooked! Isla's fish tacos are phenomenal--easily the best in the area and a must-have every single time. I usually go for the tilapia, though I've sampled the red snapper as well. They come out super crispy on the outside yet remain incredibly moist inside, with the salsa and toppings melding together perfectly. I also visited their new location today and was pleasantly surprised by the ample parking and comfortable seating. The space is beautiful, making it even more enjoyable to stop by for those irresistible fish tacos. Here's a quick rundown of my ratings: Fish (all varieties): 8.7/10 Birria: 7/10 (good, but not their standout item) Carne Asada Super Burrito: 5.8/10 When it comes to satisfying my fish taco cravings, Isla remains the only choice.
