Tri color burrito (really good)
Brad N.

Honestly for years we ignored this place due to its generic and boring name. But after getting too much sub par Mexican in WC and Concord (surprisingly) we gave it a try. Honestly it was just as good or better than many of the Mexican spots on concord. The wet burritos were big, juicy, flavorful. Nice that it comes with sour cream and guac on the side. Al pastor was tasty in both the burrito and crunchy tacos Dorados. Importantly we liked all their salsas, which was a relief since so many other places have crappy salsas that just ruins the meal. We'll be back to try more

Carne asada tacos

What a pleasant surprise in the heart of Walnut Creek! This place is easy to find on a corner with plenty of parking. The tacos were huge and they didn't skimp out on the meat as you can see! You definitely get your moneys worth. The cheese enchilada was a bit small but plate was well portioned with beans, rice, lettuce and sour cream. There's a self serve chips a salsa station as well as self serve water station. They do have beer and of course soda for purchase.

49ers Burrito Wet

Stopped by for Taco Sunday. This is our local go-to taqueria in our area. Food is always good and today was more of the same. We had the Burris tacos, 49ers wet burrito, and the chili verde plate for me. The self serve chip and salsa bar is always fully stocked with clean. My pork chile verde was full of flavor. Chips were warm and crunchy, salsa was good, pickled jalapeños, potato, and carrots hit the spot.

Salsa options

This place was just alright. +1 star for having a pink habanero salsa! It is their spiciest salsa option and it's pretty good. If you're not accustomed to spice, don't try it. If you are, it's quite pleasant but not as spicy as a Hot Boys Sando in Med+. I tried their super nachos with carnitas. The carnitas were good! But the container could have been fuller. I still rather go to El Molino in Concord. I also tried their Super Burrito with carne asada. It was alright, but the carne was a little too salty for my liking. I'll try it again with the carnitas next time. I always get their horchata, but I'm a little sad that a refill is $1.

El Tri-Color Burrito

Tacos Walnut Creek. This was my first visit, and I wasn't blown away. The tortilla chips were excellent; the "extra hot" habanera salsa lived up to its name, and it was really good. It was pink in color, which I don't recall seeing often. The sign outside promised "authentic" Mexican food, but items with names like "49ers Burrito" had me feeling pretty skeptical about that claim. I ordered the "Tri-Color Burrito", which was on special (see photo). I got it with carnitas. My wife ordered a one-taco plate with a carne asada taco. I thought the food was ok. There was nothing wrong with it, but it didn't measure up to my usual spots. The service was good. One thing that probably took away from our enjoyment was that they had no air conditioning on, and it was a hot evening (at least in the high 80s). We ate outdoors, because although it was warm, the air wasn't stagnant like it was inside.

The service here was outstanding. Music was on point. Even though they have counter order, they make you feel welcome. We ordered the Combination Platers. One with two Crispy Taco's with Rice & Beans and another order with One Crispy Shredded Beef & Enchiladas. The food was served pippin hot. Just one bite and you will fill the joy. The Cooks makes your food with much love. If you haven't tried them. you really need to take the time. This place is awesome.

Went here before the lunch rush on a weekday - it wasn't super busy, we got our food pretty quickly. They have a self serve chips area, which I liked. The bar was pretty clean and well prepared with everything you would need for condiments and utensils. I was honestly a little disappointed in the food. I got 3 lengua street tacos and a horchata. Horchata was alright, but the lengua was not flavorful at all. Even with the salsa, nothing really helped. The tortilla was just super soggy/oily on the bottom as well, so it was not enjoyable for me as I hoped it would be. Definitely had better tacos at other establishments; I don't think I would come here again unless I was out with my coworkers, who seem to enjoy this place more than I do! I'd probably try something else on the menu rather than give this meal choice another chance.

This is a fun taqueria. They have many proteins to choose from. We had two fish tacos al a carte and a tostado plate. The Al Pastor (marinated pork) was a little over cooked for our taste. The overall presentation was great and I would order It again when they were busier. The flat tostada was nicely fried. The tostada came with a plastic fork which made eating a flat crispy tostada a tad hard. The fish soft tacos were excellent. Plenty of fish and nice ingredients. Today they had a cucumber horchata, which was quite good. The staff were friendly and helpful. This is an order at the counter and they bring you the food. The restaurant had a nice south of the border feel. The restaurant was clean and had brightly colored banners to break the monotony of a strip mall restaurant. We recommend you give them a try.

Fish Taco and Jalisco Style Pastor Taco

Wow this place is really good and big portions. I like how they have self serve chips and condiments. I'm so happy I only got 3 tacos, because it was so hard to finish. Loved how the ingredients meshed together. The fish tacos were saucy, but it was still delicious. I'd definitely come back.

Taco al pastor

I have never tried Carne de Jugo before even if I've been eating Mexican food since I was a child. (Even lived in Mexico for a small time!) It is life-changing from this place. Highly recommend. The tacos are delicious and affordable. Their chips are delicious and homemade (and they have pico de gallo, my fave!). It's located conveniently on the outskirts of downtown Walnut Creek making it a perfect, walkable, nighttime eatery with plenty seating and clean bathrooms. Will be coming back here shortly as well as keeping it in my back pocket!

Chicken wet burrito
Daniel H.

I ordered a spicy wet Chicken Burrito and it looked great but was missing flavor. I tried to understand how. I posted a picture of the Chicken and notice how it's looks weird. The food was bland and flavorless. I appreciate any Taqueria with a salsa bar but the pico de gallo and the red chunky salsa was also lacking flavor. The salsa had no kick. The chips were thick which I do not like. It was strange because it looked amazing but didn't taste tasty. Maybe they use some sort of frozen Chicken and just reheat it. I don't think I will return. The place was clean and the staff was friendly.

Our first stop on our Saturday taco crawl we dropped into Tacos and almost everything about the experience was substandard. The tacos consisted of tiny cheap tortillas with predominantly unseasoned low quality meat. They were missing ingredients the menu noted were included, which created a very odd flavor profile (the Super Taco was missing sour cream and guacamole) but one did come with a sizable cilantro branch in it so there was that. The service was pleasant, and they did have outside seating, but they cut a lot of corners with their ingredients. So all that being said, we don't plan to return.

Super + quesabirria
Joy F.

Our favorite taqueria in Walnut Creek - authentic, delicious, and consistent. Love the super taco with carne asada and quesabirria with consome - aqua fresca is good too with homemade chips and salsas. Great stop after a Target run and Farmer's market Sundays.

Super Burrito: al pastor, no lettuce, refried beans.

As I entered, I eyed Cholita Linda, and since we had already eaten at the place near us, I knew what we wanted and would enjoy for our late lunch or early dinner... a Cubano! For those who might not know, a traditional Cubano sandwich is made with Cuban bread (a white bread loaf with a thin, crispy crust and a soft, airy inside. Usually, a moist palmetto leaf is placed on top of the dough before baking to create its signature split), Mojo-marinated roasted pork (slow-roasted in a marinade made of sour orange juice, garlic, oregano, and cumin), glazed ham (sweet, deli-style sliced ham), Swiss cheese, dill pickles, and yellow mustard. Of course, here in the US, the recipe is adjusted based on the location and available ingredients, but the core stays the same, which makes for a delicious sandwich. Cholita Linda's Cubano is made with pulled pork shoulder, black forest ham, mustard, pickles, aioli, and Swiss cheese on grilled French bread. Trust me when I tell you that it is a delicious version! Anyway, this location is very well managed and maintained. The staff are friendly and the place is clean and nicely kept. They have tables inside and outside the mall. On a warm day, you might prefer to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air while you eat.

Located in a strip mall with a large grocery store and other establishments, parking was a bit tough around lunchtime but spaces were available. The second I walked in I could clearly see that this was a local hotspot, drawing in a crowd of area residents, locals, and professionals. Almost every table was occupied on a Friday around noon. The large cheese quesadilla was fantastic! It came in four huge, cheesy portions (served on a paper plate with foil) and was definitely among the best I've had in while. In addition to that, I ordered their carne asada and fish super burrito, super wet vegetarian burrito, side of chips and guac. The prices here are very reasonable! I asked the cashier whether to order the shrimp or the fish, and their recommendation to get the fish was a good call! The fish burrito was generously filled (see the cross-section photo!), and I especially appreciated the sour cream. Simply delicious! The carne asada burrito was equally excellent. The meat had a wonderful charred flavor. We loved the cheesy sauce on our wet burrito. I may have to get that next time with the fish burrito. Don't forget to order a side of guac, it was $6 for 8oz. The guac was fresh, chunky, and had an abundance of cilantro which we love. There's also a self-serve salsa bar with Salsa verde, mild, and medium salsas along with pickled vegetables, limes, etc. The cashier who took our order was friendly and incredibly welcoming. When I mentioned it was my first visit, she was genuinely appreciative of our business. I noticed there was no tipping option available on the electronic payment screen during my transaction. Fortunately, I had cash on hand and was able to leave a tip in the jar.

There's a ton of seating inside, and everything is very spacious. Though, I do have to say it always feels incredibly empty for some reason and there's never anybody actually inside outside of a few tables, but they do have tons of takeout so perhaps that's the tradeoff. However, don't let the lack of eating patrons inside the place put you off. This taqueria offers a good variety of different options as any taqueria would offer, and many of the options have pictures and stuff with it. The service here is, kind of hit or miss. The people in the front usually aren't overly friendly, and will sometimes feel like they're just there until the clock turns work over. Sometimes they're bordering on rude as they just kind of give you an indifferent stare as you're ordering, or will just feel as if they're half listening and not even looking up. The service was a bit better when I dined in, so perhaps maybe it's just the takeout, although it's usually the same person for both. Price wise, it's certainly not going to be cheap. If you want the best bang for your buck around here, El Aguila probably won't be it as there's a plethora of taquerias in this area. Food quality wise, it's pretty good overall. There are some tasty dishes here that will certainly warrant the little bit of extra cost here compared to other places. Things that I have tried here are the burritos and the torta. The burritos here are yummy as they they will have ingredients inside the burrito that is slightly different than your cookie cutter burrito at any other place. It really does help adds layers of flavor to it that other places do not offer. However, the best part of it is indeed the fact they grill the outside of the burrito to get that nice flakiness that wrap, and makes it a oh so rewarding experience. Meat portions was okay, but wish it had more especially for the cost. The torta I got was pretty good, as the ingredients inside were pretty typical so nothing really stood out. The break was toasted well, but I do wish it was a bit softer as it may have been to toasted. Should be toasted outside and soft inside, but this one just felt toasted all over. The meat portion also suffers from the same issue as the burrito as that it's not as generous as it could be. However, the flavors and taste were fine. It's certainly a nice place for those who want a bit of a different style of their Mexican cuisine. They have some flavors here that will be atypical of most of the cookie cutter taquerias around. While they are a bit expensive comparatively, the portions are actually decent (minus the meats). You can certainly be filled with just a single burrito. Worth a visit.
