    Fried fish and shrimp
    Cheryl E.

I really wanted to like this place but it just fell short in my book. The fried fish had little/no flavor. Just plainly fried. Didn't even taste like it was salted. And the carne asada was tough and chewy. You can see that the meat was cut along the grain so it made the texture difficult to eat through. I did however like the rice and beans and the grilled jalapeño. The one thing I absolutely hated was that my coke was flat! Absolutely flat! We had two and they both tasted terrible. I don't know how the soda could lose the carbonation if they were sealed. I don't think I'd be back any time soon.

Great ambiance, delicious food. The only thing I would improve on is the fact that they didn't bring utensils, salsa, or chips for in-dining... delicious regardless

My husband and son came here last Saturday for some tacos and they loved it. We are back again this Saturday. Grabbing some more tacos to go. My son's new favorite tacos place.

My boyfriend and I stopped in here for burritos a couple of months ago. We were in the area and I searched my Yelp app for Mexican food spots and found this place. I got a shrimp burrito that was $17, and my boyfriend got an asada burrito that was $16. We took our food to go and enjoyed them at home. The burritos were good but a bit pricey. They did have a lot of seafood options on their menu that looked really good. I'll have to come back to try out other items.

    Camarones a la diabla

I absolutely loved my camarones a la Diabla ! Everything on the plate was delicious - fresh salad , beans , rice and shrimp . 10 out of 10. I even asked for more salad because it was so good . The service was great . The food is made fresh when you order . It's a very small place and it can get pretty busy so take out may be a better option . Everyone was friendly too. The shrimp was authentic and perfect .

They really do have some of the best Chicken Tacos I've ever had! I definitely need to try some of the other ones. The chorizo tacos aren't bad. Definitely not my favorite. I've definitely wanted to try the Al Pastor tacos. They look delicious!!!

Shrimp mango habanero tostada. So goood

I'm surprised there weren't more reviews for this place. This place is a hidden gem. First time I tried the birria ramen I thought where the hell has this been all my life! It's like a beef stew seasoned with tapatio and has ramen noodles. Today I tried the shrimp mango habanero tostada and it was amazing! So refreshing and I love the right amount of spice from the habanero and sweetness from the mangos. And PLENTY of shrimp. They are not stingy on that. Love this place and want to try all the menu items. Very high quality taste and ingredients!

I really liked the quality of the shrimp in my shrimp cocktail. I'd say it was my fav. I said no avocados but I guess the cashier thought otherwise. The music was quite loud. I also ordered carne asada tacos, which were dry and flavorless. I don't recommend. I had the 4 quesobirria with consome. They were very lack of luster. But I was probably full from the other tacos. I had to ask for the consome, and the woman who serves food and cooks just kind of gave a bad attitude about it. They also only give a few thin napkins for each person at the table. The toilet in the bathroom did not have a cover. I really wanted to like this place. I'd say If I were going for seafood items I would come here. That in itself is a plus.

Solid service every time. Had to make this place part of my rotation of spots to hit for taco cravings and especially for their Diabla Fries.

My longtime favorite, this place is AMAZING!…read more I've been going to El Mercado Del Sol in Concord for YEARS, and let me tell you... this place never misses! It's one of those rare spots that stays consistently delicious no matter how many times you go, which is why I've happily supported them for so long. Their rotisserie chicken is out-of-this-world good--super juicy, perfectly seasoned, and roasted so the skin has that irresistible golden flavor. Every time I pick one up, I'm reminded why I've been coming here for so long. And the sides? Honestly, they're just as crave-worthy. The rice and beans are the ultimate comfort combo--flavorful, warm, and exactly what you want next to that chicken. The fresh tortillas are a game-changer: soft, warm, and perfect for making little tacos on the spot. And their salsa? Bright, fresh, and packed with just enough heat to make everything pop. I can't forget the carnitas either. After all these years, they remain some of the best I've had anywhere--tender, flavorful, with those crispy edges that make you want to order them again the moment you finish. El Mercado Del Sol is truly a Concord Gem! It's the kind of place that keeps you coming back because the food is consistently fantastic and made with care. I'm proud to support them and will keep doing so for many more years!

There's a ton of seating inside, and everything is very spacious. Though, I do have to say it always feels incredibly empty for some reason and there's never anybody actually inside outside of a few tables, but they do have tons of takeout so perhaps that's the tradeoff. However, don't let the lack of eating patrons inside the place put you off. This taqueria offers a good variety of different options as any taqueria would offer, and many of the options have pictures and stuff with it. The service here is, kind of hit or miss. The people in the front usually aren't overly friendly, and will sometimes feel like they're just there until the clock turns work over. Sometimes they're bordering on rude as they just kind of give you an indifferent stare as you're ordering, or will just feel as if they're half listening and not even looking up. The service was a bit better when I dined in, so perhaps maybe it's just the takeout, although it's usually the same person for both. Price wise, it's certainly not going to be cheap. If you want the best bang for your buck around here, El Aguila probably won't be it as there's a plethora of taquerias in this area. Food quality wise, it's pretty good overall. There are some tasty dishes here that will certainly warrant the little bit of extra cost here compared to other places. Things that I have tried here are the burritos and the torta. The burritos here are yummy as they they will have ingredients inside the burrito that is slightly different than your cookie cutter burrito at any other place. It really does help adds layers of flavor to it that other places do not offer. However, the best part of it is indeed the fact they grill the outside of the burrito to get that nice flakiness that wrap, and makes it a oh so rewarding experience. Meat portions was okay, but wish it had more especially for the cost. The torta I got was pretty good, as the ingredients inside were pretty typical so nothing really stood out. The break was toasted well, but I do wish it was a bit softer as it may have been to toasted. Should be toasted outside and soft inside, but this one just felt toasted all over. The meat portion also suffers from the same issue as the burrito as that it's not as generous as it could be. However, the flavors and taste were fine. It's certainly a nice place for those who want a bit of a different style of their Mexican cuisine. They have some flavors here that will be atypical of most of the cookie cutter taquerias around. While they are a bit expensive comparatively, the portions are actually decent (minus the meats). You can certainly be filled with just a single burrito. Worth a visit.

Feb 2 2025 3.5 stars…read more Lately our go to Mexican eats is Cinco De Mayo in Martinez. Christians-smh. It is Sunday and Cinco is closed. The server and service here at Isla was perfect. I pointed out to he waiter that he had a crumb on his chin and he wiped and chuckled like a nice champ. The music is pleasant but a bit louder than needed so I brought out the earplugs. The entire indoor setup is nice. Our food is arriving after what seems like a long wait meaning either the food is being served fresh, hot and tasty, or we are in for a mediocre experience. Our two plates arrived. Chilli relleno and Grilled chicken enchilada. I'm not a fan of the aesthetics of the smallish squair white plates. Reminds me of trying to look upscale. We own plates like these and that didn't work. Wife's enchilada plate was covered with three hot and very tasty chicken filled food bombs plus sides. The chili plate looked a little weak (too much plate showing) but that was the tastiest chilli relleno ever in 40 years of me enjoying these. Served hot with cheese filled up to the ying yang, an extra spiciness I have never had before that I loved and me wishing I had a spoon to scrape up the end of the sauce. Unfortunately the smallish rice and bean servings on both plates were luke warm and tasted so so. . I had similar hotter to those with tv dinners back in the day. The two plates and a coke at $43 has me scratching my chin on whether we will make that drive again. That is unless it is Sunday. Then possibly. .

After giving it some thought, I decided to return and explore what it was about Isla that everyone raved over. This time around, I ordered the fish tacos, and I was hooked! Isla's fish tacos are phenomenal--easily the best in the area and a must-have every single time. I usually go for the tilapia, though I've sampled the red snapper as well. They come out super crispy on the outside yet remain incredibly moist inside, with the salsa and toppings melding together perfectly. I also visited their new location today and was pleasantly surprised by the ample parking and comfortable seating. The space is beautiful, making it even more enjoyable to stop by for those irresistible fish tacos. Here's a quick rundown of my ratings: Fish (all varieties): 8.7/10 Birria: 7/10 (good, but not their standout item) Carne Asada Super Burrito: 5.8/10 When it comes to satisfying my fish taco cravings, Isla remains the only choice.
