Super friendly staff. Got the blackened trout and it was delicious. They were out of a couple sides so I upgraded to the jambalaya (SO good!) and they threw in my drink free of charge for the trouble. They serve real lemonade so I made myself an Arnold Palmer and it was great. My only complaints are that I wish they had a blackened catfish option instead of only fried, and I wish they played the rap music they were listening to in the kitchen in the dining area instead of the boring elevator music...then it might feel a little more like New Orleans! I was just here on Saturday with my sisters after watching a movie. We stopped here for lunch to try something different. Service was good, could have been better if the people ahead of me and my sisters got through ordering their food a bit quicker, but it was what it was. Also, where we sat (by the bathrooms), it stank since there seems to be a problem with the sewage system in Pleasant Hill. Anyhow, the food was solid too. Today's experience needs to be shared. Mystified by my usual order of 10 years appearing in multiple containers I asked the cashier (whom I tipped $5 at check out) if it was possible to have my order remade the way I'm used to receiving it. Who Dat Chicken and shrimp with seasoned rice. I even asked for and paid for an extra chicken strip that I did not receive. Cashier insisted that the order has *never* come that way and they've been told that chicken and shrimp need to be kept separate so they don't get soggy. I get it. But the dish comes sauced. Not too awful. The fried catfish came in extremely thick coating, and was pretty tasty so long as it was still hot. The jambalaya was kind of dull, with large hunks of chicken and a few pieces of plain sausage. I liked that they had lemonade (and sweet tea) in addition to soda drinks. New Orleans In Pleasant Hill! I was looking for something to eat when I saw this restaurant. Went it to check out the menu and liked what I saw! However, I decided to order something I haven't had in a while! I ordered 50/50, which is half deep fried catfish and half deep fried shrimp with fries! Came in again for lunch. I haven't been here in a while because certain restaurants inside of this shopping center smell like raw sewage. I don't believe it's coming from the restaurant, I truly believe it's the city's issue. But with that being said, while the food is good- it makes dining in a little unappetizing. Walked in with a friend here and was immediately hit with the foul aroma of super strong cleaning solution. Just what I want to smell when I'm eating at a restaurant. I finally made it! I was in the area, I hadn't eaten all day and I was craving fried fish. Walking into this place I was greeted with a "Hello, welcome in." I am big on greeting from staff. I was won over with the genuine warm greeting from staff . The place was busy and also clean. I ordered Fried Catfish w/cajun fries and hush puppies. The catfish was seasoned well, soft on the inside and crispy on the outside (not hard like chips). The hush puppies were off the hook I love a good hush puppy so... Came here for Mother's Day and it was perfect timing because we were able to get beignets since those are only made on sundays. They were light and fluffy and smothered in powdered sugar, which is exactly how I like them. Their catfish was ok, it didn't have the crunch I was hoping for but the flavor was pretty good. For the Cajun crab fries, the crab was a little bland but the sauce that came on it was spot on! And the fries were amazing. When we got there, there wasn't a huge line. We were able to order fast. But when I went back to order some beignets to take home, I did wait in line for quite some time. But that wasn't the workers fault, just customers taking forever to choose what they want. Yes, yes, yes. I know, I'm late to the Southern Comfort game but man, was it worth the wait! As a new parent it means the world to have a warm, comforting, and hearty meal at the end of the day. Southern Comfort delivered just that and so much more. Authentic New Orleans and Southern cuisine in cozy but cool digs makes me so happy ~ we ordered the Mac and Cheese and Green Beans to start, the Who Dat Shrimp with seasoned rice, and the Shrimp Po Boy with Cajun Crab Fries. I mean....wow. Every dish was so on point ~ the Mac was so creamy and honestly would go back just to order that alone. Shell pasta Mac is the best Mac (if you know you know), and being a green bean fan anywhere I go, these were done just right. Crispy, yet full of flavor. Highly recommend the Who Dat Shrimp ~ I know there are a few variations of fried shrimp on the menu, but loved loved loved the seasoning on this. Another dish I would comeback for in a heartbeat. And although the Po boy was my husband's, I tried a bite and appreciated the super fresh/soft bread. That can be a make or break for such a traditional sandwich. I stumbled upon this place while baiting Pleasant Hill. The small location was pretty clean but fairly empty. We had Fried Oysters with fries, chicken tenders and fries with two brown sugar lemonades. The food was seasoned very well however the oil may have been too hot because my oysters were uncooked inside but very crispy on the outside. The brown sugar lemonade is an acquired taste. You order at the counter and they'll deliver the food to your table. Admittedly I liked my friend's food better! The Who Dat sauce is creamy with a good kick to it. The savory grits were so good I ordered a side to go! My least favorite was the Jambalaya. It's fine, but not great. I'm glad I only ordered the side. The chicken sandwich was huuuuge and the coleslaw had a nice tangy crunch to balance out all the flavors. Sundays they serve beignets and they were good. Slightly more dense than I've had, but still good! Today was the perfect weather to eat outside in their patio area. Inside has a decent amount of tables and seats as well as a couple of booths. We've been to the location in Castro Valley a lot, but recently we've been going here because it's closer. The parking is a little iffy, but it's so worth it. Southern Comfort is conveniently located by a bunch of other shops and stores, so depending on where you park, a little walking is required. We always get the Cajun crab fries. Everytime, sometimes we'll try something else, like the fried oysters (which were just okay). The last few times we went, they were out of blue crab, and it was so early in the day! A bummer experience. But overall, the food they do have is great, I just like the Castro Valley location better. read more

I normally won't rate this low but I was missing some items and waited an extra 35-40 more minutes for the food. I ordered a 50/50 with Cajun fries and a whodat 50/50 with Cajun fries, and fried catfish and an additional side of jambalaya. The 50/50 was missing the Cajun fries and the who dat 50/50 was missing coleslaw my sister ordered. By the time I had noticed I was already home and the restaurants phone wasn't taking any calls. I understand it got busy a few minutes after I came in but I had also ordered online 30-40 minutes before arriving. Food tasted solid as per usual except for the Jambalaya this time the rice was way too mushy and soggy. I like this place and I've been here 4 times already this year so it's a little unfortunate to have such a different experience. Hopefully next time will be business as usual. read more

The Southern Comfort Kitchen food truck is one of my favorites whenever I get to see them. The crab fries are hands down some of my favorite fries in The Bay Area. This was my first time to sit down at the Pleasant Hill restaurant. The restaurant has a great vibe. The wall decorations, a great playlist (I was doing karaoke the entire time) and plenty of staff on hand to assist. Their menu is easy to understand: there are appetizers, main dishes, sandwiches and their famous po boys. Also, it should be noted that the portions are GENEROUS. I liked that a lot. I was expecting small bowls and cups for appetizers but these plates were hefty! Mac N Cheese: standard dish and hit the spot. Crawfish Etouffee: probably my least favorite dish. There was an overpowering tomato taste to this. Etouffee does have tomatoes in it but I missed a kick from paprika, hot sauce or a seafood-style stock to kick this up. Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich: I've had this before from the food truck and still just as tasty. They are generous with the portions of chicken. I doused mine in hot sauce and devoured it promptly. Fried Oysters and Cajun Fries: Cajun Fries are always a hit. The seasoning is really nice. The oysters were over-fried. Just a little less time in the deep fryer would've been perfect. Hush Puppies: although they were clearly over-fried, we still enjoyed it. I would've like these to be golden so to enjoy with the dipping sauce. Overall, we still enjoyed the visit. Deep frying is a tricky cooking method so just keeping a closer eye on cook time will help tremendously. I'll be back soon for some crab fries. read more

With a New Orleans vibe, the menu was nicely laid out with good options of southern classics - (you can view the menu on their page). Like others, we look at what customers are dining on; I will say the presentation and overall visual of each plate was five stars, well done. We will eventaully try the all :-) We ordered the Catfish w/Fries and the Red Beans & Rice. The catfish was perfectly cooked with a perfect 'crunch' to them, and their fries were well seasoned and tasty. My wife enjoyed the Red Beans and Rice - one note. If you're used to heavy salt on the food, this will taste a little bland; however, you can always add salt, hot sauce, etc. to your liking. Lastly, the staff was great - all of them. Came into the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon and all the tables were disgusting! The guy in the front seemed to be running around everywhere like a chicken with his head cut off. The food was disappointing for the price and definitely not worth the 4 stars this place has. They definitely need more staff and hire someone to clean the tables. Literally every single one of them had some greasy sticky residue which is gross. There seems to be a bunch of men working here nothing against it but it does make you feel slightly uncomfortable since they stare a lot. Hope you guys learn to improve and hire more people.
