Where to start? I was excited to try this place out due to the hype I've seen on Yelp. But was sadly disappointed upon entering. The place was outdated, and oldschool. Pretty much untouched from the start. When we walked in it wasn't busy, but the guy at the front desk was on the phone for about 3 minutes until he finally took our order. We ordered the calamari and chips, and Oyster with chips. Both 17.99 each! I had high hopes but was quickly disappointed. It took a whopping 45 Minutes to get our food. The food arrived and it was clearly battered and fried, but the quality of food was meh. Nothing exciting nothing tasteful. Just frozen fish and chewy calamari and old oysters. The Ketchup bottle was nasty, it had residue all over the top lid from other customers and old ketchup. Once we got home I had immediate sickness and had to throw up. Would not recommend. read more

As usual, we brought McDonald's for our youngest kids because they don't like seafood, and one of my children has a serious seafood allergy. The wife already looked irritated with my kids (12 & 6 yr old) when they sat down while we tried to order the food. We calmly explained that our kids don't eat seafood and that one is allergic, but the employees refused to accommodate us and wouldn't serve us. The place is managed by an Asian family and service was quite to the point due to difficulty in communication. Service took long as there only one person manning both the ordering and the cooking. Been eyeing this place for quite awhile and we finally tried it tonite. The spot was empty but based on the reviews, I had high expectations. We counter ordered the Combo A and C, and a 3 and 2 fish dinner, lumpia, and fried zucchini. Took a short bit to cook, but food was relatively quickly. Portions were large and piping hot. Batter was thin but crispy, seafood tasted very fresh, the zucchini didn't get soggy, and the lumpia was tasty. We received lemons on request, and tartar, cocktail, malt vinegar, ketchup, and sweet chili sauce in squeeze bottles. Food was excellent, no fishy taste, and like I said, large portions. Oh man!!! This is so good. Really reminds me of the fish & chips I had in London. The batter is light, airy, and CRISPY. The flavor of the fish shine through. It's not masked by heavy seasoning or salt. Great place! We ordered online and pick up was prompt in 20 minutes. Different owner, Tried to go here today, I usually doordash it but today I just want to get their tartar sauce and the Asian B!÷(# at the counter charged me $5 for 2 sauces when on their menu it clearly said large $3. I was overcharged by the elderly man at the counter but didn't bother asking for a refund. I honestly felt bad and wasn't sure he'd even know how to process it. What really put me off, though, was watching him sneeze into his hand, then head straight into the kitchen and come back out with food for other customers without washing his hands. That was pretty gross. The food didn't make up for it either. For $34 for fish, scallops, and a bottled Coke (including the overcharge), it was super bland, overpriced, and nothing like proper London-style fish & chips. The fries were clearly frozen and fried in the wrong oil, altogether. While I was eating, another customer also noticed she'd been overcharged. When she brought it up, the man insisted it was "tax," and she eventually just said, "forget it." I knew that was coming and the reason why I didn't ask for a refund on the overcharge. The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is because the elderly man did politely thank customers as they were leaving. Unfortunately, that's the only positive thing I can say. Bummer. This is a small, hole-in-the-wall, family-run seafood place in a nice, residential neighborhood off of Contra Costa Blvd. The friendly, energetic owner, Jonny, looks 60 but is 80 and still going strong! First time here, we ordered at the counter and snagged a booth. The clientele seem like regulars and skews older. We both had the fish and chips, I ordered the 3 piece, my wife the 2. The servings are large, two pieces are definitely a good meal, and the prices are reasonable. However, the meal was just on the OK side for us. The batter seemed to be missing something, not sure what, that normally makes any fried food delicious. And the fries were thin and average at best. A lot of people like this place, and Jonny is worth supporting, but I just can't give it more than three stars. read more

3.5 stars but he gets the benefit. Johnny was a funny and cool guy. No one else in the restaurant so he tried to hook it up with the big pieces of fish. The fish was definitely big (see wife's hand for scale), but truthfully juust a tad thin in my opinion. Compared to sometimes you get/see fish and chips and it's a thicker/chunkier piece. It's likely the type of fish he uses, but with thinner fillets you lose some of that moist meatiness. By the way, 2 pieces of fish is plenty per person especially with fries, 3 if you're really hungry. The batter is fairly think and hearty, any more and it'd be too much. But it definitely gave the fish some body; it held up and didn't fall right off like some thin batters do. I think the fish and fries could have been seasoned with (more) salt though. But that was pretty easily remedied with our own salt, the good portion of tartar sauce he gave us, and the malt vinegar. The food made our place smell strongly of oil, as if we fried it fresh ourselves, which was not ideal. Maybe the oil was a bit old at that point read more

Entering this place is like stepping back in time to the 90s. Personally, I view that as a good thing, as it gives this place some real unique character. It's a bit hard for me to explain exactly what I mean by this, but just take a look at my pics to give yourself a better idea. The shop is ran by this older gentleman who was really nice and seemed to be handling everything solo. He recommended that I get some prawns with my fish and chips and I'm really happy that I did, as the prawns were exceptionally good. While my meal only came with one piece of fish, it was a really generous size and was hot and crispy. My only complaint is that I wish everything was more seasoned. Luckily, there's salt at the tables so you can make this adjustment yourself, but I think it would benefit more by being during the preparation process. Overall I gave this place an 8/10, with the vibes carrying that score an extra .5 points than what I would've given it otherwise. I'd definitely like to return again! read more
