Came here for a Cinco De Mayo celebration here in a mayberry town and was truly disappointed. The hostess/waitress Haylee was nice but there was a delay in getting our drinks, my paloma had no taking even though I requested it and the next table had it. Had a live DJ and no Latin music, I mean com'on play Bad Bunny, Shakira, Santana or pittbull. Nah they playing country which I dont mind but snap might as well feed the juke box at the saloon or gone to back 40. Ordered chicken tortilla soup which had no broth and was mushy. Never remember chicken tortilla soup or sopa azteca being that with kernel corn from the can with no sliced avocados. First time here, I ordered two plates of Quesabirria's, 3 for $19. (Price is quite high coming at $6.34 each. It's not worth it.)They didn't come with radish slices. Which are usual garnishes for this style of plate. The meat didn't have birria flavor, tasted like plain beef. I do like that they only used 1 tortilla. I also ordered a side of carnitas. Weirdest carnitas I have ever tasted. Nutmeg, cinnamon and slightly sweet. These were not authentic carnitas. I would call this pulled pork. Carnitas are usually on the salty flavors and when cooked in their own fat, they have a delicious pork flavor. The salsa's were good but they also lacked salt. The red salsa has a mayo flavor. Again not authentic. As well as no chips for a to go order. Over all for a basic food order, I would not recommend this place. Nor will I come back. I was told by many locals it wasn't that good and lacked flavor. I had to try it myself since I love tasting quesabirria's plates and carnitas in different surrounding cities. The service was great. The waitress was kind and took my order. The chef answered my questions and was helpful. The Ambience was normal, a style of taqueria you find in America. Nothing special. The bathroom was clean. The 1 star is for the Employee's and cleanliness. 4-5 stars has everything to do with the authenticity and flavors of the food. I can't understand why this place has such high stars. The bad: I really wanted to like this place, but at the end of the day I have to agree with several of the other reviews that the food was very bland. The salsa we got with our chips was practically water, and the Carne Asada burrito just lacked any flavor. Hopeful to try again in the future after they worked some things out. read more

This is such a cute little spot in downtown Clayton. We hadn't tried it before and were at the park with our kids on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, so we decided to try it out! It's literally right next to the Grove. We were greeted and the waitress was very friendly. The downsides are they charge for chips and salsa and there is no fountain coke. Boo. However, we ordered the chips and salsa and it was delicious. Bottomless chips and they give you 3 different types of salsas. They were all pretty good, but the "spicy" one (it wasn't very spicy) was my favorite. It was very yummy, reminded me of nacho cheese, but more of a salsa. The medium salsa (the red one) was also good. We ordered the steak fajitas with flour tortillas. It was very good. Next time I would ask for no mushrooms. Their menu doesn't include the ingredients in the dish, so we didn't know. But it was very tasty and we were very happy with it. We also asked for some cheese which ended up being $2 extra and it was like a Mexican blend of shredded cheese (we usually prefer jack). There is no kids menu, but we ordered our kids the cheese quesadillas appetizer and it was huge. For $12, that was a big come up, especially since they shared and it was plenty. So overall a nice experience and we will be returning, but just a couple things that kept it from being a 5 star review. read more

Grabbed a lunch with 3 friends and it was a solid experience. Wet burrito with roja sauce was tasty. Meat was tender. One person had the soup and really enjoyed it. Me and a couple of friends went for happy hour. Service was great. Our waitress was nice, friendly, and our food and drinks came out quick. The happy hour food was not it. We ordered carne asada fries, toastada, chicken taquitos.. the chicken taqutitos were extremely dry and felt it was almost frozen bought.. the carne asada fries were bland and again fries seemed like they were frozen, and then microwaved. We did order the quesabirra tacos and that was good 4/5. As for the drinks, drinks were lacking flavor and could hardly taste any alcohol. I feel if the food is lacking, the drinks shouldn't either. Today was my first time coming here and I'm so glad that we have a good Mexican restaurant close by in town now. I met Chris who is one of the owners and a really nice guy. I asked him what he recommended and he said that his favorite was the chile verde. He was right, the pork was so tender and flavorful and went great with the chips and salsa I ordered to go. They are incredibly accommodating, and the second time we came in they saw us outside and set the table for us and our 4 year old before we even came through the door! We just had to try the new Taqueria in Clayton. I ordered the carne asada burrito, which was probably the worst I've ever had. Very bland, no seasoning. Rice and beans were mediocre. We also tried the mole dip, which was the same awful beans with canned mole sauce poured off to the side with a bunch of jack cheese. It was not of quality. I also was wanting to enjoy a beer at this new Taqueria, but they hadn't obtained a license for alcoholic beverages. On a more positive note, I'd like to say that if a little more authenticity was inserted into the food, I would definitely come back for a second time. But after getting the bill for burritos and tacos for $62, I'm not sure if this would ever be somewhere I would come back to. read more

I was excited to have a taqueria in town. My first visit I had chicken street tacos with beans and rice. I was disappointed. The chicken was not seasoned at all. The corn tortillas were barely warm. The rice tasted like it was from a box and the beans were a flavorless glop. Today I had the chicken taquitos. The only thing inside was stringy unseasoned chicken. The rice and beans were the same as before. I ended up not eating my lunch. I explained to our server that it really wasn't that good. She took my plate back. I ordered a two crispy tacos combo with rice and beans. I had no idea the crispy taco would not be a real fried tortilla as is customary. It was a pre-fab taco shell like the kind that come in the Old El Paso box in Safeway. The beans were watered down refrieds and the rice tasted like it came from a box mix. They had no flavor. Nothing tasted like homemade Mexican except the meat. The meat was the best thing on my plate. My husband had a carne asada burrito. He said it was okay, but not great. My mother in law taught me how to make real Mexican food, and my homemade is better than what I paid for. I was really hoping for a Tacos El Patrón quality restaurant in downtown Clayton, especially from the owner of La Veranda. It truly missed the mark. read more

I heard Vinny's was going to open and I couldn't wait to give it a try. Living in Clayton, I was excited about having a Mexican food restaurant close by. I went there after a hike with a hiking buddy for lunch last Wednesday. We both both thought the food was delicious. He had the chicken taco plate and I had the beef taco plate. The food was all very fresh. The beans were perfect, not too runny and not too thick and great taste. The rice was fresh and fluffy. My wife and I plan to go tomorrow night. I'll try different dishes each time I go. The service was great. It's casual sit-down dining. The wait person brought each of us a big glass of water when we sat down, a nice touch after a long hike. This place is mid. I got a margarita for happy hour and definitely the highlight for dinner. Good flavor and good buzz. The food is definitely mid, I got the azada fries and it was velvets cheese sauce with barley cooked, mushy fries. The jalapeño trio was actually just a plate of lettuce and chicken. The chips and salsa were pretty good. But the fijitas was just a plate of chicken, when I feel it typically has a side of rice and beans. I have never left a review like this before... This is the, without a doubt, worst Mexican food I've ever had. Beans and rice taste bitter almost like cleaner or soap, no flavor other than bitterness. Chicken was crunchy and hard like a chip as if it had been sitting out for hours, completely inedible. I knocked it on the countertop and it was almost as loud as knocking with my actual knuckles. It even smelled rancid. They say they'll text you when the food is ready but they don't, so expect your pick up order to be cold as you're left not knowing when to pick it up. Don't waste your money. I can almost guarantee I will get food poisoning from this place. I wouldn't recommended this to anyone. read more
