The owners daughter Nancy was not only very rude but didn't try to accommodate us. Our surgery center always orders from them. We all got tortilla soup. It's usually to our liking this time it was extremely thick and had no consomé, or juice. Instead of a soup it looked like a mole. She said she can have her dad call Me back and if I doent like it I don't need to go back. Very rude and unprofessional!! I asked her if we can get a credit and she refused. Best Mexican food around this area. The bean dip is my favorite because they have the best mole I have ever had! Tortilla soup has great flavor, tamales are great and the crispy tacos no matter what kind of meat are excellent!! Let's talk about my order. I ordered 2 quesabirria's. The tortilla was perfect. One tortilla and crispy on the outside. The amount of meat in the inside was okay. It could have used more. They also added the cilantro and onion on the inside. It was tasty. The consomé, was delicious. Just the right Amish t of flavor. The service was good. I was attended right away. Even though I didn't see a quesabirria plate they young man at the register knew exactly what I wanted. The restaurant itself is very Mexican. Colorful tables, walls and Mexican decor. The tables all needed to be wiped down and the bathroom didn't have enough soap to wash my hands properly. It needed to be cleaner as well. Relocated to Walnut Creek Ca. In Visalia and Modesto it was easy to find good Mexican food but here in the Tri Valley East Bay the Mexican food is kinda bland and boring at most places. The carnitas plate was a good portion and comes with an option of soft or hard tortilla. The carnitas itself had a good crispy exterior with a moist interior. Also got a shrimp burrito, this was a bit of a surprise because it was fairly spicy - wasn't expecting this and didn't ask for it to be spicy - still good overall. The pastor tacos also delicious. I usually walk the Heather Farms Trail that runs perpendicular to the Bancroft/Treat shopping center and noticed Mariachi Mexican Grill. A friend and I usually eat at one of the establishments over on Monument Blvd but decide to give this place a try. I'm a carnitas guy but enjoy a good al pastor taco. I decided to go for a carnitas crunchy taco, two al pastor soft tacos and a Diet Coke for the carbonation that goes well with all things fried. My buddy went for a carnitas burrito. The food came with a side of chips too. I'm a salt guy so anything salty tastes good to me but not necessarily over salted. I liked the carnitas in the crunchy taco but sadly the taco shell tasted like a store bought shell that needs to be heated. Unfortunately the taco shell was stone cold so it wasn't quite crunchy but had that slight crunch, slight chewy texture. The al pastor tacos came on two street taco size tortillas that were grilled which added a nice touch. I'm not sure if the salsa over powered the al pastor or if the seasoning on the al pastor was very mild. I really couldn't taste the al pastor but the food in general wasn't bad. The chips unfortunately like the taco shell, were not warm so they weren't really crunchy. My buddy said his burrito was okay. The carnitas were a bit salty for him so I'm not sure if the carnitas I got was from the same batch or if my salt tolerance is higher. He mentioned that the ratio of meat to the other ingredients was a bit light. I'll give the place a try again and see if I find something that stands out. The prices are reasonable, $2.10 a taco crunchy or soft. The workers are pleasant, not overly friendly but they do serve your food to your table. read more

A friend and I happened to be on Treat Bl so we ended up at Countrywood Shopping center looking for a place to have dinner. At first we were going to Genova Deli for a sandwich but since it was after 5p we decided on Mexican food. Mariachi Mexican Grill is like a traditional taqueria. It's not a fancy place but the food is usually good and authentic. It was my first time there so I had to look over the large menu board. I was happy to see they had a two taco combo with rice and beans. The lady at the counter was nice and pleasant. She had no problem when I asked if I could have one soft taco and one crispy taco. Chips and salsa are not complimentary but for a $1 more, it wasnt an issue for me. My meal didnt take long from order to table. The server actually brought two small bags of chips and a few containers of salsa for my firiend and I. The flavor of the steak, rice and beans was excellent but I do miss that they didn't have a salsa bar as I would have liked some salsa verde. I have gone to Mariachi through the years and while I've had problems off and on with the quality and consistency of the food, I'm writing today because of the absolutely rude treatment I received from the cashier and a woman who said that she was "the owner". I came in for a burrito and was asked questions twice since the cashier wasn't concentrating. It happens. I answered twice. I was then informed that to get chips, I would have to pay for them. I was shocked as I never had to pay for them in the past. I said that that was not a great thing to do to the loyal customers but paid the amount for what used to be free. By saying this, I was pegged as "difficult". I waited for my to-go order watching for ten minutes as they cleaned and did things other than cooking. I saw meat on the grill but my order was for a vegetarian burrito. After 10 minutes, I let them know that I was needing it somewhat soon as I had to go to work. At which point, I received glares and they continued to work ignoring me. Then "the owner" asked a poor man from the back area to make my burrito. He didn't wear gloves and he made a point to touch the outside of a handwashing towel cover. I left with the burrito but as I drove away I felt I couldn't trust the burrito. How frustrating to pay for a burrito yet not feel comfortable enough to eat it because of the hostility and toxicity of the staff. I was not rude. I just didn't order perfectly and that made them angry. When I got to work, I called to ask for the manager and the woman said that she remembered me and that I could not receive a refund. She started screaming that I "abused" her cashier and that I was never to come back into their restaurant. I wasted $11 + dollars on a burrito that I was right to question. The restaurant was empty and not really clean which was already disappointing. dark and gloomy with no air conditioning which is a turn off. Customer service was ok nothing to write about. As for the food dry and old meats was very disappointing. Carnitas was hard and chewy looked to be old and re heated. Chorizo was burnt to crisp. Barbacoa was bland and unpleasant. Tortillas soggy. Toppings were lacking and flavorless. Honestly I would not recommend people here nor will I return I wish them them the best and hope they make some modifications. Trust your intuition. On a stormy Saturday, My friend and I were looking for a place to eat in Walnut Creek. Initially, we wanted to find a place in the north end of Walnut Creek, but parking was a real pain. We agreed on Mariachi Mexican Grill since we knew parking wouldn't be an issue at Countrywood Shopping Center. On our way to the restaurant, I did not have a great feeling about this place, mostly because none of Mariachi's predecessors lasted long in that space. My bad feeling was somewhat confirmed when we arrived at around 1:00pm. The first thing I noticed was the restaurant was empty and one of its employees was talking on his cell phone outside. The interior was darker than it used to be. Pictures of their offerings were displayed all over their their counter area. I did not see a menu board anywhere. Instead, I had to look at a to go menu to see what they have. Nothing assured me that it was going to be a good meal. My friend and I both ordered their carnitas special ($10.85). The young woman at the counter gave us each a small paper tray of chips while the cook prepped our food. We grabbed a couple types of salsa from the salsa bar for the chips. The chips and salsas were okay. The spicy salsa had some nice heat in it. The same young woman brought us our food about 10 minutes later. The food was presented nicely and it came with three flour tortillas wrapped in foil. We both agreed that the carnitas was on the dry side (they heated it on the flat top grill prior to service) and it was not flavorful. The tortillas were straight out of a plastic bag. The rice and refried beans were very average. Overall, we both thought the carnitas special was not that special. The young woman at the counter was polite but did not seem to know their menu items too well. This is a very casual but well kept Mexican grill. Ideally located in East Walnut Creek in a very nice shopping center. No parking issues. First time in and I was well treated and ordered Salade Tortillas, to go. A very tasty and rather large portion, with all the fixings : salsa, chips and tortillas on the side. A good dollop of sour cream came on top. About the same prices as CHIPOLTE , but with a better home made taste. I'm going back soon ! Outside seating in this great weather ..... a plus. read more
