I got the ultimate bomb platter. It was really goood! Its recommended for more than 3+ people but it was good amount for me and my friend. The papaya salad was very tasty and I loved the sauce it came with. The pork belly was crispy and the sausages were great. We went on a wednesday and it wasnt busy at all. Definitely recommend

i came in a few minutes after opening to place a to-go order. i ordered a pork banh mi with no jalapeños, and decided to eat a few hours later. the banh mi was still soft, the pork was tender, and the vegetables tasted so fresh! i was pleasantly surprised with the amount of meat in the banh mi! i really enjoyed the sandwich. service was quick and friendly - it took about 10 minutes for 2 banh mi sandwiches to come out. although i did not eat in the restaurant, it was super clean and well-decorated. i loved the colorful mural on one of the walls. awesome restaurant with such yummy food!!

I came here for a weekday lunch, this is located in the Park & Shop near 85 degree bakery. This is the type of establishment where you ordered at the counter and they bring the food out. So you'll walk up and order there. If you are eating there, they'll give you a number and you seat yourself, and they'll bring the food to your table. Water is self-service at the front. So we ordered two dishes to try - the noodle soup (pork) and the drunken noodles (chicken, mild). I thought both delicious were excellent, there was a lot of flavors and very delicious. I enjoyed everything. I felt like the restaurant feels like a good size but at the same time, it is a little small because the table are tables of 2-4 so it may be more cumbersome for a larger party. I imagine it can still work for a larger party by pushing tables together and using the stool/bench seating too. I didn't have any issue finding a spot to dine in for weekday lunch. I had to use the bathroom here, they are all-gender single stall restroom - surprisingly very clean. I was thrown off by the sinks which are located outside of the restroom instead of inside. Overall, it was a good experience and I definitely plan to re-visit when I am in this area!

I had the BBQ pork Banh Mi. It's delicious, a good size sandwich and worth the price. I walked in and ordered, they told me it would be about 15 minutes since they had three orders in front of mine. I went and sat in my car for about 8-10 minutes and went back in, my order was ready. There's plenty of indoor seating and a beautiful mural on the wall, if you prefer to eat in. I took it to go.

My mom wanted to come here for her birthday and we were very glad they did. Food was delicious and service was great -- we loved everything! Definitely would come back again.

I'm visiting from Seattle and have been sooo excited to try this Lao spot in Concord, especially after seeing it blow up on TikTok -- and it did not disappoint. I got the crispy pork plate with sticky rice and jeow... THE JEOW it was SO good. It honestly reminded me of my grandpa's. That flavor was nostalgic in the best way -- spicy, savory, just perfect with the pork and rice. The crispy pork was super flavorful with the right amount of crunch, and the sticky rice tied everything together. Service was nice too! It was a quick interaction, but they were friendly and efficient. Definitely worth the hype.

Came back for the platter! Amazing! 10/10 The service was great as well. Friendly staff.

First time at Spicy Joi and we had such a great experience! The owner was super nice and welcoming, and even gave us some freebies. The food was delicious! One of our friends couldn't handle the spice, so Joi was kind enough to make us a new batch on the house. Everything was so good that we finished every bite! Definitely coming back. Highly recommend!

Oua Lao Sausages Street Food Combo (mild sausages with sticky rice and lime sauce) + Minced Pork soup

Now I really understand why it's called Spicy Joi - the food is spicy and brings joy! A friend and I came here on a Sunday for lunch, ~1pm, and saw a good crowd inside. The whole left side was occupied by a large party (lively too, which added to the ambiance) and a few more tables with 2-4 ppl. A woman - possibly the manager or owner - greeted us and said we could sit whatever. She served us waters and offered recommendations as we browsed the menu, knowing it was our first time. She was friendly and briefly chatted with us too. We got 2 orders of the Khaosoi/Minced Pork soup. It was well-rounded. I was drawn in from the first slurp of the tomato broth. There were also pieces of pork belly, which usually isn't my first choice, but I found myself relishing the crispy bits of skin. Good chunks of bok choy too. My friend and I wanted soup, and this place fixed our craving! We also shared the Oua Lao Sausages combo (the mild version), which we got with sticky rice, veggies and lime sauce. Glad we took up this recommendation - get the sticky rice over steamed. The blend of sausage, rice and lime sauce was a good kick, and the veggies helped balance out the spice. During our meal, two parties ordered the King's Platter that has most, if not all, of the proteins on the menu + noodles, rice and veggies that can feed up to 8ppl. It's a spectacle, with the server announcing to the whole restaurant that it's being served. It's epic and the top-priced item at almost $125. I've got my eye on that next time, and bring more people to come back with me ;)

Spicy Joi presents the bold flavors of Lao food in an approachable way in a casual, counter-service strip mall restaurant. We started with their Banh Mi sandwich with spicy housemade Oua Lao sausage, along with mayo, cucumbers, jalapeños, cilantro, and pickled carrots/daikon on a crusty, light baguette. Nothing to write home about, but this simple sandwich made for a nice snack. More memorable were the other dishes we tried, which each came in generous portions. The Khaosoi was a noodle soup made of wide rice noodles in a fermented bean broth, topped with ground pork, crispy pork belly, Shanghai bok choy, bean sprouts, and cilantro. The broth was spicy, oily, and umami, and the different forms of pork added a heartiness to the noodle soup. Next, the Jungle Fever Thummua was a pounded salad made of shredded papaya, vermicelli noodles, meatballs, shredded pork patty, shrimp, tomatoes, green beans, carrots, cabbage, and eggplant, all in a salty fish sauce dressing. Finally, the Nam Khao was a rice ball salad made of broken crispy coconut rice balls mixed with cured pork, peanuts, dried chilies, scallions, limes, herbs, and lettuce. The crispy texture of the rice and the crunchiness of the peanuts came together perfectly with the tart, savory, spicy, and herbaceous flavors of the ingredients! Overall, the food here was definitely on point and super delicious. The seasoning was a bit toned down (less spicy/funky than I'd expect from Lao food), but each table had a jar of spicy chili oil to enhance the flavors. The service here was exceptionally friendly and hospitable, and everything came at a good value in generous portion sizes!

Food and drinks were all amazing! It's our first time trying Laotian cusine and the owner was super nice and helpful in providing us insights on Laotian food. Ambiance felt super homey. Highly recommended!!

I had the Khaosoi and it was amazing - super flavorful, cozy, and just the right kick of spice. The Khaopiak was also fire - rich, deep, and totally comforting. Both dishes had so much flavor packed in, I legit didn't want them to end. If you're into noodles and bold flavors, this is definitely the spot. Can't wait to come back and try more!

Hidden gem in El Sobrante that serves up some of the best Laotian and Thai food in the Bay Area…read more Every time we visit, must-orders are the Nam Khao (crispy rice ball salad with fermented pork sausage and fresh herbs) and Ka Soy (Laotian noodle soup). If you see Nam Khao on the menu of a Laotian/Thai restaurant, that means they know what they are doing just because it's so labor-intensive to make a salad(!) and the fermented pork has to be damn-near perfect for this salad to really shine and round out the fresh herbs and seasonings which includes lime juice, vinegar, and fish sauce. Ka Soy (the noodle soup) is a comfort food enjoyed in Southeast Asia. It's not the Thai-style where it's a curry broth and the noodles are fried, so let's not get it mixed up. Instead, it's bone broth that been simmered for hours and it's somewhat a lighter broth. The noodles are wide rice noodles in a big bowl of hot broth served with a mixture of ground pork cooked down with tomatoes along with fresh bean sprouts, scallions, and cilantro - simply a divine noodle soup that a must-try. It's not overly complex in terms of flavor, but it's a bowl of good ol' noodle soup that is comforting and great-tasting. If you haven't tried Laotian food, give Sue's Kitchen a try. try some new flavors and you may just become a regular (if you aren't already). The owners are friendly too! My parents came here last year and said the food was good BUT the crab fried rice was fishy so... I decided to just get regular fried rice and chicken wings. My dad even called it, "I don't trust ordering from restaurants within 45minutes of them closing because they like to rush it." Also, "15 minutes seems too quick for them to cook the food" Well yeah my dad was 100000% right! The chicken tasted as if it was cooked then REFRIED. The meat was dry as he**. The skin was too hard and just unpleasant. The fried rice was disgusting. It didn't even taste like fried rice. If anything it had a weird taste and a dash of pepper. My mom said it literally tasted like BENS RICE OUT OF A BOILED BAG! No eggs even were in it! I'm just so pissed because this was supposed to be our dinner after an 8+ hour drive. I will be calling to request a refund since they closed after we received our food back at the hotel. I had to just throw the whole thing away! Yeeeeeucccckkkk

We ordered the Pun Khao Poon platter (lettuce wraps) with pork springrolls, pad thai with chicken, and the mango salad. The portions were very generous. The mango salad was the highlight of the meal, followed by the lettuce wraps. The dressing in the mango salad had just the right combination of sweet and tangy. We loved the addition of mint for the wraps, but I personally don't care for perilla leaves. The fish sauce accompanying the wraps was delicious and was also great over the pad thai, which was a bit on the bland side without it. Service was a bit less than perfect. When one diner asked for water, only her glass was refilled when another glass was obviously in need also; minor overlook, though. The one thing that was a bit disturbing was the noise level. It was extremely loud, so it was really difficult to hear each other talk. It didn't help that the party at the next table had a woman who cackled loudly when she laughed. It was a relief to step outside after we ate. Not sure what can be done to help with this, but it did make dining there not as pleasant as it could be. Even with this, I'd definitely return if I was in the area.

I would say their level 3 spice for the laap can get pretty spicy -- it's a slow heat that creeps up on you as you continue eating. One thing I'd ask for next time is some lemon or lime, as I like my laap a bit more tangy. They make their sausages in-house, and while they were good, I think they could be a bit larger considering the price, along with a touch more salt for a more savory flavor.
