I came here for a weekday lunch, this is located in the Park & Shop near 85 degree bakery. This is the type of establishment where you ordered at the counter and they bring the food out. So you'll walk up and order there. If you are eating there, they'll give you a number and you seat yourself, and they'll bring the food to your table. Water is self-service at the front. So we ordered two dishes to try - the noodle soup (pork) and the drunken noodles (chicken, mild). I thought both delicious were excellent, there was a lot of flavors and very delicious. I enjoyed everything. I felt like the restaurant feels like a good size but at the same time, it is a little small because the table are tables of 2-4 so it may be more cumbersome for a larger party. I imagine it can still work for a larger party by pushing tables together and using the stool/bench seating too. I didn't have any issue finding a spot to dine in for weekday lunch. Now I really understand why it's called Spicy Joi - the food is spicy and brings joy! A friend and I came here on a Sunday for lunch, ~1pm, and saw a good crowd inside. The whole left side was occupied by a large party (lively too, which added to the ambiance) and a few more tables with 2-4 ppl. A woman - possibly the manager or owner - greeted us and said we could sit whatever. She served us waters and offered recommendations as we browsed the menu, knowing it was our first time. She was friendly and briefly chatted with us too. We got 2 orders of the Khaosoi/Minced Pork soup. It was well-rounded. I was drawn in from the first slurp of the tomato broth. There were also pieces of pork belly, which usually isn't my first choice, but I found myself relishing the crispy bits of skin. Good chunks of bok choy too. My friend and I wanted soup, and this place fixed our craving! We also shared the Oua Lao Sausages combo (the mild version), which we got with sticky rice, veggies and lime sauce. Glad we took up this recommendation - get the sticky rice over steamed. The blend of sausage, rice and lime sauce was a good kick, and the veggies helped balance out the spice. During our meal, two parties ordered the King's Platter that has most, if not all, of the proteins on the menu + noodles, rice and veggies that can feed up to 8ppl. It's a spectacle, with the server announcing to the whole restaurant that it's being served. It's epic and the top-priced item at almost $125. The Khaosoi was a noodle soup made of wide rice noodles in a fermented bean broth, topped with ground pork, crispy pork belly, Shanghai bok choy, bean sprouts, and cilantro. The broth was spicy, oily, and umami, and the different forms of pork added a heartiness to the noodle soup. Next, the Jungle Fever Thummua was a pounded salad made of shredded papaya, vermicelli noodles, meatballs, shredded pork patty, shrimp, tomatoes, green beans, carrots, cabbage, and eggplant, all in a salty fish sauce dressing. Came here yesterday around 11ish. Me and my partner loves Laos food and papaya salad. So we drove all the from San Jose to try this place out. The khoapiak soup chicken was amazing. We would drive back just for this alone. Unfortunately for what we expect to be the star of the show was a big let down. The papaya salad that we had was kinda old. It tasted like it was bad. And I've been eating papaya salad my whole life so it definitely was not was the fermented sauce. We know the difference. I saw the owner/chef in the back cooking and I can't believe he would serve us a papaya that was old. And all the other meat on the platter was just ok. Was not greeted until we came up to the counter and the young lady was very polite for letting us choose our own seating table. The plates were visibly fine however the forks were very concerning. Very visible residue on the forks probably due to bulk washing. Once were handed our dish we briefly took it in as it was really nice presentation and plentiful! 3 dishes were ordered and all 3 were superb! Seasoned well and cooked beautifully. The basil chicken did have a noticeable basil flavor but the basil itself was not present which isn't a big deal but would like to have some on the plate. The basil chicken dish had a couple eggshells (2) that were noticed very quickly. I assume it could've been because they rushed the order as it is very close to closing hour. I personally did not call it out to the staff for the chef because I did not want to cause a problem and it was getting late I did not want them to wait for us any longer. Overall 3/5 the saving grace was the delicious dishes we had.
