For downtown, this is one of the few places where a decent meal can be had for under $10. The people who run this joint are incredibly pleasant people. That deserves one star on its own. I'm a fan of the banh mi's more so than the phos. For downtown, the quality of of the Viet sub doesn't get much better. Decent sized sub, enough filling and generally good baguette bread. Can't complain too much. Spice level can always be adjusted by adding hot sauce. Portion size for phos are on the smaller side. The broths don't have the same days old slow cooked goodness that I like from a hot bowl of noodles but this will hit the spot on a cold day. All in all, this place is OK. read more

Ordered the $3.00 Avocado Roll + $3.00 Tofu Roll around 7:00 PM on a Thursday. There were four people eating and my order was ready within 5 minutes. The server was friendly and efficient. The rolls arrived with two smaller sized peanut sauce containers and a complimentary cup of tea. The rolls were well below average portion size and cut into halves. The first bite of the tofu roll generated an overall sense of dryness. The roll contained one large cut of tofu that contributed to the dryness. The remaining ingredients were well distributed throughout the roll. The flavours never came alive and could be best described as disjointed and dull. The avocado roll suffered the same isolated and dull flavours. The taste of bean sprouts was considerable while the key ingredient mango was lacking due to thinly cut pieces. The peanut sauce offers a decent savoury peanut flavour but was to sweet. The two supplied peanut sauce containers were smaller than average so you need to conserve. Overall these wraps lacked taste, consolidation of flavours and freshness. The included tofu ingredient was prepared too large and was dry. The mango roll lacked mango flavour while bean sprouts prevailed. Freshness lacking throughout both rolls. Below average portion size. The julienne vegetables mixed w/ the cilantro on the warm flaky baguette bread gave the sandwich a nice texture. We also got a large bowl of pho to share and it was nice and warm. When I came home, I prepared it myself and it was so delicious! When I judge banh mis, I look out for 3 things: 1) Not too dry 2) fluffy bread 3) Perfectly pickled veggies. Unfortunately for the price you pay it doesn't quite hit the mark and the fillings were not enough for the entire baguette. Wonderful find on Robson just down from Granville. Staff welcoming, friendly, courteous. Lots of options but this visit I went for the BBQ chicken sub. Even though it was a very busy lunch time (with a constant flow of customers) service was quick. Sub was delicious, fresh, and filling and only $4.75!!! Baguette was warm and crisp, chicken was yummy, with lovely fresh veggies and cilantro. I don't know what was in the sauce (not spicy) but I detected pineapple, which added a sweet note to the whole experience. I think I nearly ate at this place every Sunday I lived in Vancouver, unless I was out of town. And honestly, this review is solely about their pho. I would always get one of the variants of the beef pho with my friends to go. We affectionately referred to this place as styropho as the beef came in nice Styrofoam containers, and the liquid in a nice plastic one. It always hits the spot after a long weekend on the town. One of those hidden gems in the city! We have been here several times on our way to a show or some events downtown. The place is very small, 1 small table and 5 counter seats. The prices are very reasonable and the service is excellent. We always order B4 - meatball sub with French bread ($4) - they have their own special sauce for their subs. The portion is quite substantial and filling, the subs have more filling than the subs at Le Petit cafe on Main. The bread is nicely toasted and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I really wanted to love this place because of the lower prices and super friendly service. I ordered a chicken banh mi to go, which I loved until I started finding bone fragments in my sub. Not one, not two, but four. They weren't huge (maybe each about 1 cm long) but this meant that I didn't find them until I started biting down on them. The texture of the baguette is fluffy yet crispy, with fresh veggies that make the lemongrass flavors pop. A lot of people recommended this place to me for their cheap and good subs so I decided to take-out one for a quick lunch. After you order your food, its a bit cramped to wait inside. Go outside and after they prep the food, they will bring it out to you. I liked that, good service element. I tried their BBQ Sub and it was just OK until my last bite which was this fatty jelly like pork that wasn't so appetizing. At $5 (after tax), it was the same price as One Saigon on Hornyby St, and I like their subs better. Plus One Saigon has a 2 for $7.9 deal on Thursdays which makes their subs even cheaper if you share with a friend. So I probably won't be back. I guess we were both a bit stressed from forgetting stuff, (not usually her, she remembers everything), hunger, and tired from long weekend and no sleep. The soup was very good. tasty, hot and good to warm the cockles of the very soul. I had the Wuntun soup and that was good too! Throw in a springroll, not oily and crispy and seasoned just right. And a sandwich. In particular a Vietnamese ham Sub. Not the best, but tonight it served it's purpose. The the price? Well, I fellt like a king by insisting to pay for the whole meal. I know I know, not a place to take a date, but really, if it was the right person, it'd make for a great date! Not that this was a date. Where can one get a cheap and delicious lunch in the core of Downtown Vancouver? Look no further than Viet Sub, where you can get filled up on a delicious Bahn Mi sandwich for less than $5! Viet Sub is located on Robson street, right beside Japadog's brick-and-mortar store. It's small, but they serve a lot of the typical Vietnamese dishes. Whenever I order a Bahn Mi sandwich here, I go for the deep fried pork sub. The bread is crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The pork is tender and flavourful (although probably not what you would expect if it were deep fried) and the portions are good. Overall, it's not as good as the sub at Au Petit Cafe, but it comes decently close. On of the colder days, I also had a bowl of their pho to go. They must get a lot of take out orders, because they package it quite well. The soup is separated from the noodles and meat, and the typical add-ons (even the spicy and sweet sauce!) are packaged separately on the side. I found the pho portions a little small, but overall it was a decent bowl of noodle soup. The broth was decent, but not amazing. I found that it seemed to lack some depth compared to other Vietnamese restaurants I've frequented. When you take into consideration the pricing and location though, Viet Sub makes for a really solid lunch option when you have that Vietnamese craving. The service is also pretty good! read more

I never knew this place was so popular. I first came here a few years back when walking down Robson and just wanting a sandwich of some sort and subway just wouldn't do. Really nice staff, tiny little shop that I thought was family owned when I first tried it but I am not too sure anymore, either way they've always been very kind and very fast. I remember ordering the BBQ chicken Banh mi for the first time and it was absolutely magical...pork plus chicken plus beef plus meatball all put together into one sub? HELL YES!!
