I visited English bay with my family last summer and suddenly had a craving for iced Vietnamese coffee! There's something about the strong coffee flavour combined with the sweetness of the condensed milk that I love so much. It really wakes you up too! After having just 1, I feel invincible (haha). I also was intrigued by the basil seed drink with coco jelly. I've never seen it before! and after doing a quick google search about it I saw that it's good for your health. I loved the refreshing flavour and the seeds were fun to eat, kind of like mini pearls (not as chewy though). I also had pho and a banh mih but I was so hungry that I forgot to take a picture, woops! Second time I've been here and it's so good! Had the brisket pho the first time I was here (May 2022) - flavorful broth, good amount of meat and noodles. This time we tried the sandwich and coffee special. Char broiled pork and deli sandwich. I liked the deli one better, but both tasted good and the bread was crisp outside but soft inside. The Vietnamese coffee was super strong (as expected), so definitely let some ice melt. But it was creamy and sweet enough. Also had the spicy seafood pho - really good and nice kick of spice. It's a small-ish place, but not cramped and pleasant. The lady serving us was nice (as she was last time). Definitely recommend this place. Wonderful Vietnamese restaurant located on the south end of Robson Street. Good service and pleasant service. Small interior but always able to find a table. Many people order to go. I love the food here. Everything is really good, from the banh Mi sandwiches to the noodle soups/pho. We got the special today, which was a banh Mi sandwich and a Vietnamese iced coffee. Be sure to let the ice melt a bit, other wise it's a very potent coffee. Good if you prefer it strong. read more

It came with a lot of broccoli, cabbage, deep fried tofu, and plenty of noodles, served with the usual garnishes. The broth was pretty simple and lacking depth, but not bad -- the chili oil they serve with it helps. It's not the best veggie pho broth in town, but it's respectable. All in all, not worth going out of your way for; and there are better veggie pho options in the West End (Pho Goodness, Ongba, etc.). read more

Great lunch spot on Robson, and super affordable too! There aren't too many Vietnamese spots in the area, but I'm glad that this place has solid food. I came for lunch on Wed around 1 pm and it was pretty empty with only two tables occupied. Their banh mi (Vietnamese subs) are super affordable at only ~$5.50 a pop. Most of the noodle soups are $10. I really appreciate the prices here! I went with an order of the chicken wings ($8) as well as D1 Vietnamese beef stew noodle soup with rice noodles ($10). My friend ordered the veggie sub with deep fried tofu for $5.70. The noodle soup came out first and it was piping hot. So hot I burned my tongue on my first sip of the soup. It's a giant bowl, but I quickly realized it's more soup than noodles. Even, I had trouble finishing the whole bowl and took maybe 1/3 to go. The quantity of beef was pretty decent. I was initially skeptical of the large pieces of beef stew, since I usually see them cut into smaller bite sized pieces, but these were still tender and flavorful. I was hoping for thick rice noodles, but the noodles looked like regular pho noodles to me. The fried chicken was well flavored and fried to a golden crisp. My friend really enjoyed his veggie banh mi as well. All in all, a very solid spot for Vietnamese fare on Robson! read more

$5.25 for a tofu sub? Hell yes!! I love this place. Fresh pickled veg, ample amounts of cilantro, sauce on sauce, and mouth water tofu (who even says that?!). You just can't go wrong with this place. Viet Sub is hands down the nicest and freshest place to get a quick bite. Again, another hole in the wall, located lower Robson. Perfect grab and go before the game, but also, a great place to sit and window watch people! The food comes quickly, brings me joy, and all of the staff are always so friendly and they never judge me for how often and how alone I always come in. I came here since I haven't eaten Vietnamese foods for couple day in Vancouver. I came in for lunch on Monday around 11AM. It was a Monday so I was the only person there. I order a beef special pho and grill chicken lemongrass rice plate. The food came out about 15 minutes later. The Pho was average size but as I tried the broth to my taste testing, it was salty. I tried to squeeze a lemon and add all the veggies comes along with the pho but it still salty! I could only eaten 3 bites and can not fishies it. The grill chicken rice plate was flavorless, not enough marinated with the lemongrass. Overall, it is located on Robinson Street which attracted a lot of tourists but it was dead empty which the ramen next door was crowded! It is also next door to Snow Village dessert which I ended afterward. Not coming back to this Pho place, the broth was too salty and not enough flavor to it. read more

Plenty of seating inside but instead took my rolls over to Whole Foods patio located across the street. The freshly prepared rolls and peanut sauce created a tasty snack. Portion size and taste could be best described as average (good). The peanut sauce containers were not filled to the top and I ran out before the rolls were finished. This eatery offers a good value located on the trendy Robson strip. I prefer this one to the downtown location (520 Robson) as the furnishings here are more modern and food tasted slightly better. A bit conflicted about this Vietnamese restaurant. When walking by, this place always seems packed. I decided to try their Banh Mi instead of sitting down to try their Pho noodle soup. I ordered their original Banh Mi which had their cold cuts and BBQ pork. Unfortunately, their bread was too crunchy and crusty for my liking. I'm not a fan of bread that cuts into the roof of my mouth. Also, the meats were too dry and it really needed their sauce to keep it balanced. The sauce itself was too much like hoisin sauce and it was too sweet. Because of the sauce, I wasn't able to taste any of the pate which is a big part of why I like Banh Mi in the first place. Sad as I had high hopes for a good sandwich. That said, I hope to stop by again at some point to give their noodle soup a chance. read more

I walk past this location often, and I noted that it is usually empty, when other restaurants on the street are full. They were empty when I walked in Sunday afternoon. I ordered the "Chicken sub" ($4.75 total) to go, hoping for a juicy portion of lemongrass chicken in it. The chicken was a mix of shredded white & dark meat, completely dry and flavourless, the whole thing just sucked all the moisture out of my mouth! I had to find some sauce to dip it in it was that bad. And all the chicken was balled up on one side. The pluses were a generous portion of pickled veggies, and a fresh baguette that was perfectly crispy and just a bit chewy, but that was it. I wouldn't ever order it again. On their window they advertise all the ingredients that go into their subs, and I realized after I got home that I was never offered any jalapenos or an option to make it spicy. I'm sad this was so disappointing, I haven't tried anything else yet but perhaps their other menu items might be better. The food came out within a few minutes after ordering. Soup/Pho I appreciate how the "rare" beef pho is actually served rare in hot soup. Some restaurants cook the beef all the way, which makes it over-cooked and defeats the purpose of calling it rare. Subs The breads are soft on the inside yet crunchy on the outside. After researching and looking this place up and coudln't find anything on them, I was actually looking at their first and original location also on Robson. This place had just opened recently. I ordered B5 which was the Special Sub ( Ham,Cold cut pork and meat balls) The bahn mi came relatively quick and it was a good size sandwich! The toast was toasted perfectly to a nice crunch and had a nice warmth with the ingredients as all the ingredients were hot and fresh. They also gave me on the side spicy sriacha mayo if I wanted to add some to my sandwhich myself. The sandwich was pretty stuffed with all the things that they mentioned. I wished it was more stuffed tho. Waiters were very friendly when greeted at the door. They give free hot tea with your meal. The decor is quite modern but average and overall decent size in sitting space with a good size to fit around 20 people or so. I went to this location several months ago but still cannot get it out of my mind so I decided to write a review. We were visiting Vancouver on vacation one day and had a craving for Japanese food. I know, you're thinking, this is Vietnamese, not Japanese. Thank you, I'm aware, but to continue, the Japanese restaurants seemed to singularly have pork in or make everything in some kind of pork broth, which neither I nor my companions partake in. Hence, while glumly walking away from a promising restaurant, when we happened upon vietsub we pounced at the opportunity and I can tell you, none of us had a single regret. We ordered a variety of things including my absolutely delicious seafood pho (best pho I have ever had, and I live in Houston so I can make several comparisons), my mother's grilled chicken, my sister's beef pho, my uncle and his girlfriend's beef with vermicelli as well as chicken with vermicelli, green tea and appaetizers. All of it was delicious, the service was courteous and quick and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal at a very low cost (for 5 people in Vancouver). All in all, I most definitely recommend this excellent food to anyone craving pho or Vietnamese in general. Vancouver, you are so lucky to have such an amazing gem. read more

We tried the Pho with beef & tendon and Pork Banh Mi. Very good and fresh. The pho broth was solid and tasty. The veggies were fresh. The pickled radish & carrots were very good along with the pork. Craving a good ol viet sub and walked by this place. Unfortunately, it fell short and wasn't anything spectacular. The BBQ sandwich was awfully dry. Thankfully they provided a sauce on the side to add to it - which it REALLY needed. Typical viet subs have some kind of sauce (or mayo??) mixed in already to help moisten up the sandwich. The pho is amazing. The broth is so flavourful. Really cute little place with great service! We each had a bowl of rare beef and beef ball pho, shared a sandwich and a spring roll. The bread is perfect. Fresh and perfectly crunchy. I would've given 5 stars but I had to take one away for the Vietnamese coffee. For $4 I expected a decent sized coffee. We got it iced and it came out in a 16oz cup, full of ice, with about 2 oz of coffee. Actually. I had one small sip and it was gone. Delicious. But terrible value there. My only other complaint would be that the broth could be a little bit hotter. Other than great, great place that's super close to home. I'll be back, probably tomorrow. read more

I don't know what sauce they put on the subs but more of that, please. The pho was also awesome but, I mean, what pho isn't amazing? You make it your own with limes, basil and spices! I was very surprised at the variety on the menu...the different kinds of subs and pho you can order. The vegetarian options have sky rocketed in price and are now more then any meat option. It's to the point that the quality and portion of food doesn't make sense to purchase anymore.
