After 10+ years as a Verizon customer, my experience with Alexandra today is making me rethink my phone service. I understand that stores have certain policies in place regarding refunds and exchanges, but when unusual circumstances arise, I would hope that employees would be trained to offer or seek approval for exceptions - not the case here. I purchased a SanDisk SD card for my new Samsung Galaxy s5 at the encouragement of the store associate. After using the card for four months, my phone stopped recognizing it. All of my photos were lost. When visiting the store to see if something could be done, they recommended I take it to Best Buy to see if the Geek Squad could recover anything (which, I might add, gave the Geek Squad guy a good laugh that no one at Verizon could handle it). He told me, verbatim, that "it is a common occurrence that SanDisk cards fail in Samsung phones." He highly recommended that I get a Samsung-brand card to replace the SanDisk if I didn't want to face the same situation again. I returned to the Verizon store and relayed my findings. What did they offer? Another SanDisk card. Oh, or I could just buy anything in the store with my exchange credit. Well, I don't need anything else, and I don't want another card that is going to fail (all you need to do is a quick Google search to find that it is a common occurrence). Alexandra told me that a refund was absolutely not an option (even though they sold me a faulty device), and that the Geek Squad's information was "just one guy's opinion." Really? Pretty sure having numerous customers with the same issue is a fact, not an opinion, Alexandra. I attempted to call the manager, Carmen, to discuss my situation, but was put on hold for five minutes after which I hung up. Beware of this business, no more than a bunch thieves. It took money from my credit card in Nov 2012. When I complained, they told me the money will be applied back to my credit card within 24-48 hours, which did not happen. So far I had to called 16 times and go to the local store 4 times to get my money back. Most of the time they promised me I would receive the money in 24-48 hours. They acknowledged that they wrongfully took my money, but hesitated to return it. What a crooked thieves! read more

Promised a lot but couldn't really deliver, bottom line. While the phone I got was ultimately great, service was a split personality. Customer service rep offered me his card and cell, which I called frequently, and he was kind enough to answer patiently. However, ended up going to the store 3 times: first time to check out prices (which ended up being more than expected, as is always right), second time thinking I was getting the phone to learn it was sold out, and third time to have my contacts transferred, which they could not do. At that point I took matters in my own hands and just did everything myself. The parking lot is ridiculous, it really is true that it doesn't work half the time and you have to buzz your way out by calling security. Waited forever to get someone's attention my last visit which was damn near impossible. Lot of wasted time when I could have just figured it all out by myself, which ultimately I did anyways. Went into the store for help with my accounts. Was told by employee at the front that it would be an 8 minute wait when I checked in. 29 minutes later, I began receiving help from an employee who had spent the previous 15 minutes watching the NBA finals game on the TV on the wall. This employee proceeded to then switch back and forth between helping me and watching the end of the game. It took longer to get done the technical tasks required for fixing my phone because the verizon employee was not fully focused on the task at hand. read more

I decided to upgrade to the iPhone 6 so I went to the Verizon store on North Avenue in Lincoln Park. Frank was my sales representative, and he was not only knowledgeable, but patient, kind, full of good humor and incredibly solicitous in every possible way. This is directed to Verizon Wireless generally and not this store. I've had one interaction with people at the store, and it was fine. But since the carrier isn't available on Yelp, this store gets the review. I switched from AT&T for better coverage. I bought an iPhone 5. When I received it, the screen was messed up. I ordered a replacement. It arrived. I called to change my number over to my new iPhone. But they can't move my number over. The reason: their billing system says that I haven't received my new iPhone. Here we are, over a month later. Verizon still can't get my number over. That's right: they think that a phone that I've had for over a month is still in the mail. It's an "error in the billing system." So I have to maintain two phones if I don't want to lose my phone number. Verizon's so technologically advanced that its computer system will not accept a human command to say that a phone has been in fact delivered. Needless to say, Verizon is happy to keep billing me while I pay for my soon-to-be former AT&T account. So it's now a modern take on the zen riddle: if you switch to a new phone company for better coverage but have a number for over a month that no one can call, has your coverage improved? The excuse for the delay is that they just can't fix it. How is a company that touts its technology unable to correct a "billing error" for over a month? read more

I have to say, I usually hate going into cell phone stores because I've come to expect pushy sales people and poor service. This place is just the opposite. Friendly, helpful, no-nonsense staff who try to get you in and out with only what you need. Bonus: free parking in surface lot right in front of the store. read more

Terrible service. I had a broken phone and their online sign in sent me a text to verify my identity. So i knew i had to go in store. First they sent me around the block to get my phone fixed not telling me i needed to file an insurance claim to get the special rate. When I came back they did not help me file a claim but rather gave me an automated call line. Nathan and Uriel did nothing for me as I struggled to properly fill out the claim. the automated line was even worse, hanging up on me constantly. the web form was impossible to fill out using common street terms. I filed probably 7 claims because the web form isn't clear. Massive headache is the exact opposite of what I need when i already don't have a phone. Steer clear of Verizon and their third party insurance. Head to the T-Mobile next door, save some cash and headache read more

Focus on customer service here!! Low pressure, great advice, best deals, nicest people. I was helped by a knowledgeable member named Eric who went above and beyond to help me. He quickly gave me an upgrade that customer service had previously said (on the phone) I could not have. Since I am on a family plan, he called my step dad to verify that I could make the changes and in the course of talking to him, found out he might have paid for something he need not have at another store. Eric actually wrote down the info and followed up on it. Wow!!! While standing at the counter I also heard another employee give out her work email to a skeptical customer. They are serious about standing behind their word there!! I spent less money and got way more than I thought I ever could have! read more

They helped me activate my new phone and ordered me a new case. Sadly they were out of screen protectors and online was out of stock, So i left without them. I got a phone call a half hour later from the guy that helped me at Verizon to say he had found one pack of my phones screen protectors and that if i wanted i could back in and get them, so he held them for me until i came back to get them! He didn't confuse me, got me the new phone i wanted for way less then i was finding it on the website and updated my usage and data to a more current plan that ended up saving me $30+ a month! My iphone just up and decided to quit on me yesterday so I took it to this Verizon store not really knowing what to expect because my contract is not due for an upgrade for another 8 months. I purchased my iphone at an Authorized Vendor and pre-paid for insurance that apparently doesn't do anything in situations like this, so these guys actually waived the warranty fee and gave me a loaner for free. My phone is unfortunately dead and I have to use this loaner for a couple of days, but Carlos and Muhamed were super helpful and spent over an hour with me trying different options in order to get me a replacement at no cost to me. The only reason this isn't 5 stars instead of 4 is because I still need to receive and activate my replacement iphone and that hasn't happened yet. Provided that goes over without a hitch, this would be 5 stars all the way. Thank you guys for your help!! read more

Service was prompt and the employee polite, but I felt pushed and deceived into purchasing more than necessary, with extra fees added on here and there that the employee did not mention until the end of the encounter. Although not connected to this specific location, I was also disappointed to spend hours on the phone with Verizon throughout the day with representatives being unable to even associate my phone number to my account (even though I am the account manager?!) ...which essentially resulted in an entire day long process to finally get the phone. I had been at AT&T the day prior with my boyfriend who was getting the same phone from that carrier - the team there seemed much more straightforward, ethical, and actually interested in getting their customers a fair deal. Ron, is awesome. I went here last Friday to get a new phone after I cracked my screen and first and foremost I had multiple people greet me when I walked in the door and direct me towards a sales associate. The person who ended up helping me was Ron, who was incredibly nice and helpful. Ron looked up my account and got me the best deal with my upgrade, which included a Bose speaker, phone case, charger and screen protector. Ron also calmly spoke to my father who had questions about our family account. Overall, it was the best experience I've had at this Verizon store. I've been here before on the weekends which are much more busy. If you can, go during the week and ask for Ron! read more

Be aware that this store will lie to you. We bought new phones and ended up losing all our data simply by activating a phone via iCloud backup, per their suggestion. And Verizon's only way to help us was to make us buy a bigger data plan. Ridiculous that you could spend hundreds of dollars on two phones and this store would advise you to activate in a manner that costs you more money. What a racket. read more

After being longtime customers of AT&T, my husband and I decided to switch to Verizon because -- we *thought* -- they had better customer service. Big mistake. I have never been so poorly treated by a cell phone company. On 12/27/12, we both came to this location to sign up for a two-year agreement and get two iPhone 4s. The phones weren't in stock, so we paid extra to have them shipped to our house. When they arrived at our house on 12/28/12, we took them back to the store and had them activated. The next day, when I went to use my headphones, I discovered that they didn't work. I called Verizon's customer support line and they said that they couldn't ship me a new phone (supposedly because the phone had been activated -- ??) but that I should call around and try to find another store with the iPhone 4 in stock. I called five stores in the Chicago area and no one any in stock. I finally called this store and spoke to the salesperson that had helped us with the original transaction. He told me to come back to the store, so I did. When I arrived, I was told that they couldn't order me a new phone without seizing my current phone, sending it to corporate, and waiting for a new phone to arrive (at which point I'd have to go back to the store -- for the FOURTH time) to get it activated. Given the new years' holiday, that meant no phone for almost a week -- not cool. So I'd said that I'd just pay an extra $99 to upgrade to the iPhone 4S so I could be on my way. So then I was told that they would charge me a $35 restocking fee for the DEFECTIVE phone. Excuse me? So you guys send me a broken phone and I'm responsible for paying the restocking fee? How is that fair? So then the salesperson called the manager -- Kaitlyn Hetrick -- over and explained the situation. She was unapologetic and refused to waive the stocking fee. I asked her what else she could do, and she offered 10% discount off accessories. Let me get this straight: You guys send me a defective phone and it's on me to either (1) live without a phone for a week, then return to the store for the fourth time in order to get a non-defective phone (2) pay $99 plus a $35 restocking fee for a phone that I didn't even originally want? And the best thing you can offer for me is a meager discount on accessories -- so I can spend more money at your store? Horrible, horrible, horrible. I will never go back. read more

I came into this particular store on Black Friday, hoping to switch service providers, but not really sure. I received almost immediate assistance by David, who was absolutely awesome! His knowledge about the phones, great customer service, and sincerity in offering me the best deals as a new customer, ultimately helped me to officially decide to switch to Verizon from a carrier I had been with for over 10 years. The service David provided that day was very impressive as I consider it to be a rarity these days. I was so pleased in how helpful and pleasant he was in getting the ball rolling with my new phone, free tablet, and completing most of the work for my mail-in rebate. I had an outstanding experience upgrading my iphone at this Verizon store. I got there when they first opened with an appointment scheduled. Daniel was one of the first to greet my mom and I. Daniel went beyond the call of the duty by making us feel at ease. He was resourceful, helpful, a good listener and made the upgrade/buying experience stress free. Be Careful, these folks have some slippery ways of doing business. My husband was due for his "free phone upgrade" (when your 2 year contract is up, it is their way to lure you into another 2 years of Verizon enslavement by offering you a good deal on a phone if you commit to another two years.) My husband asked for the most simple phone available offering the few basic features he requires. He was given a phone he was told was $40 + tax which included free phone charger and headphone which he told them he didn't need or want. They told him, "take them anyway, they are part of the deal". When he got home he looked at his receipt and saw the charge for the phone was $0 but the accessories he didn't even want had cost him $40 + tax. He went to bestbuy and they verified the phone he got is FREE with a two year contract. He went back to the store, returned the accessories, and got his money back no questions asked (and no apologies offered!) Watch these guys, they are out to rob you. Too bad read more

In the past, I had a couple less-than-awesome experiences at this store, so when my boyfriend wanted to go to the North Ave location I was hesitant. The store was busy, and we were quoted a 25 min wait. Less than 20 mins later we were blessed with the presence of Carmen, at our service! She was absolutely FANTASTIC. She not only expertly accomplished the things we needed to get done but managed to help at least two other staff members with their customers AND assist a non-English speaking customer from a different store over the phone. She. Just. ROCKS. Not only did she answer the questions we had, it was obvious that she was going to go above and beyond to make sure we got every savings possible and the best plan at the best possible price. And, she's hilarious. I walked out of there with my very own iPhone 6 for next to nothing, and with a better plan than I had when I walked in. The only thing that would have made the experience better is if we could have taken Carmen across the street for a margarita to celebrate! Need Verizon help? Go find Carmen. I bought a BlackBerry Bold from this Verizon store in November.. yesterday it died due to an "App Error 606." The phone was within warranty, but Verizon I was told would ship me a replacement phone. Even though I was surrounded by phones in the store, they would not provide me with a new one. My cell phone is my only phone at home and I told them this. When they still didn't do the responsible thing, I canceled my account after 10 years and went to AT&T. Don't buy a phone from this place. read more

I have consistently have had trouble with this store. The problem is, they flat out lie to you in order to get you to buy a phone. The bill comes a few weeks later and is in contradiction to what they promised me. They then say"oh, we told you that.", and you are stuck with the bill. Another time I was guaranteed my phone would be fed -exed to my home the next day. When the phone didn't arrive, they had no solution and said they sent it USPS instead of Fed-ex. According to USPS tracking, it would be delayed by 5 DAYS! They then proceeded to tell me they couldn't help me and HUNG UP ON ME! I couldn't believe it. If in this store, do not trust Alexandra, Adam or Scott (yes that is spelled with one t). That should have been my warning...Never trust a guy who can't even spell his own name correctly. I am searching searching for new wireless providers now. read more
