I want to find vegetarian food I like. I like this place. Got 4 takeout to try all good

I haven't eaten here in years, but a friend of mine posted she was told by her dr to go vegan and she was looking for suggestions. I reached out immediately and said let's meet for lunch at Veggie Today. So glad we did- we both really enjoyed our lunches. We ordered off the lunch menu for $8.95 that includes white or brown rice. My friend had the Mongolian beef and I had the lemongrass beef. We both agreed we would happily go eat here all the time. So glad this restaurant is back on my radar. The restaurant was clean and cozy. We went after the lunch rush and were able to sit and visit without feeling we were in the way. Most of the parking on the street is either 60 min or 90 min. i ordered over the phone for a pick-up order, and the process was fast and easy, especially with their menu on the website! we ordered lemongrass tofu, fried egg roll, salt and pepper tofu, salt and pepper shrimp, chow mein, and shaking beef. the portions were a reasonable size for the price, and the flavors were delicious! my only complaint was that our orders were a bit oily, so i would probably order different dishes to try next time. service was quick and friendly. although it was a to-go order and i didn't eat in person, the restaurant itself was clean and had plenty of seating. it wasn't too busy when i picked up. read more

This spot is amazing. We had a friend visiting who is vegan and so we found this place because they have both vegetarian and vegan options. The restaurant is super cute and clean and the servers are so kind and welcoming. We got 4 dishes: Plant-Based Drumstick as an appetizer. They were chewy, crispy, well seasoned and the sauce was tangy and sweet. Fried rice. Honestly I'm a huge fan of fried rice and this fried rice might be my new favorite beating out even fried rice that I love that isn't vegetarian. It was chewy, super flavorful, veggies were perfectly cooked. It was just perfect. Caramelized chicken. This dish was good. The imitation chicken was chewy and tender with crisp caramelized edges. The sauce was sweet and it was balanced out by the veggies and spinach served with it. Bamboo soup. It was so delicious and simple but the broth was so umami and savory. Hubby's vegan and we brought my fam to this Asian fusion plant based restaurant in Concord on a Friday evening. A few patrons inside and ample seating which was great for us since we didn't make reservations and we had a toddler with a stroller. Clean light ambiance. Fyi no baby changing table in restroom. Our server had recommended getting 5 dishes and an appetizer for our group of 6 adults and a toddler. We chose the following: Lemongrass chicken Shaking beef Eggplant basil tofu Thai fried rice with brown rice Rice clay pot with brown rice Lotus salad Thai iced tea Dishes were fresh, tasty and flavorful but one thing that I'd change is the level of sweetness in some of their items. The salad dressing and Thai tea were too sweet for me and some others at the table. While it's overall healthy, too much seasoning can negate some of the health benefits. This place had been on my list for a while, and was actually the first place I added to my local food list when moving. We finally tried it after I got a filling and needed some delicious soup, and it could not have been more perfect. Any vegetarian restaurant is a very big win for me, but I have to mention how much I appreciate the number of options, and also that they aren't all fried. Not eating meat it's typical for me to have one choice at a restaurant, so here I get to have it all. If I'm lucky enough to get a protein option, it's usually fried tofu, deep fried beans, etc. Here there are actual fake meat options without the fried aspect. I sincerely appreciate being able to get a healthy meal, and with protein (!!!) as a vegetarian. It is truly a difficult thing to find. I got the pho with all three types of fake meat. It came prepackaged to keep everything separate, warm, and crispy until the exact time of eating. The broth was insanely delicious! It can be hard to get such deep flavor from restaurant broth, especially vegetarian broth since restaurants rely on meat and bones to give all of the flavor. My boyfriend's mother is from Vietnam and makes us delicious pho, so for this to compare was astounding. My boyfriend got the Mongolian beef, which he said was better than the last 3 Mongolian beef's he's had lately that were made with real meat. It was very tasty. Lastly we got the ginger chicken to share. The bed of veggies had delicious carrots and zucchini- the tomatoes were silly but I ate around them. The actual ginger chicken was incredible. I would say it's a must order, but so is every item on the menu that we tried. My only regret here is not trying it sooner. I can't wait to taste so much more of the menu. Visited Veggie Today over the weekend and I'm very grateful I can continue to get delicious Vietnamese/Asian vegan food in my area. This time I decided to dine in and meet a friend instead of get to-go like I normally do. Ordered the Foo Young as an appetizer, potato curry, sizzling crepe and rice claypot. Super delicious took home leftovers to eat the next day, since it was a lot of food for just the two of us. The curry was just as delicious the next day. Wanted to try this place since I hadn't been here in a couple years. Some of the menu items are similar to other vegan places I like so I wanted to try. Got takeout. And the island salad was not very good, the tofu that came in it was hard a a rock, thin little pieces that were inedible, see pic, I had to take out, so that was disappointing. Then the curry noodle soup I got was OK but not something I would order again. Overall sad it wasn't as good as I hoped, since I love vegan restaurants. I hope they can change somethings! I got a coupon in the mail for this place and was excited to see vegan pho as there used to be a place in SF that I loved and have never found anything nearby like it. So one day for lunch I drove over to order take out. While I waited for my food, there was some man who I think may have worked there sitting at a table talking very loudly on his phone. I was the only customer in the place so I understand before I arrived there was no one but it was still awkward. The pho itself traveled well home but the broth was lackluster. I may try it again another day to see if that was just a one off but sadly I don't know if I will make it back. I just didn't love it enough to go out of my way. I organized a group lunch here because one of the members of that group recommended this place. We wanted to eat here at 12:30 PM on a Friday, so I called the night before to make a reservation for that time for somewhere between 7 to 9 people. They didn't take my name down, but that really didn't matter because there were maybe 2 to 3 other people there. In hindsight, I probably didn't need to make a reservation, but I preferred be on the safe side. I ordered a Thai Tea and decided to choose the vegan option. I also asked them if they could forgo the straw in my Thai tea, to which they replied that they don't even provide straws normally. I was flabbergasted. How do you do Thai tea without a straw? When the drink ultimately came, they had a long metal spoon in a tall milkshake glass, and there were fewer ice cubes than I normally see at other places. The drink was already pre-mixed, so I probably didn't have to stir it with the spoon, but I did it anyway (slightly slowed down by ice cubes, but totally worth it to to avoid single-use plastic). I also ordered the Mongolian Beef Lunch Special. The vegetables had a decent crunch, and the flavor was light but present. The "beef" tasted a little bit like bean curd mixed in with tofu & other items, so it had a slight rubbery texture. It definitely doesn't have the same meaty texture that animal beef does, but that is to be expected for most meat substitutes. For what it is, it's perfectly fine. Overall, this is a good quiet place for anyone that is looking for vegetarian and vegan options. They had pretty much all reusable foodware (though I don't think they really need paper placemats). My mind was absolutely blown by the way they skipped the straw for my Thai tea drink, so I would be happy to come back again in the future. Exploring vegetarian diets so decided to try this spot out. Came on a Sunday around need and park round the block, easy and free. We were seated and menus brought ( only two people were working at the time). Pretty simple spot, mom and pop owner or small business. We were amazed how many options there were and honestly refreshing. We got their Thai tea and it was great and their egg roll came in pieces of 4. Our foods took a minute to come out but when they did we were happy with the portions. I had the curry and it was okay, came with a lot to offer and filled me up ( just felt like it was lacking something- but this could be my bias from being new to vegetarian dishes). My husband enjoyed the tamarind vegan beef and felt that it had a lot of flavour. Only thing he wished was it came with rice. All in all happy with the portions and options, and we would try again to taste different options. Prices were fair and matched the offerings. Only thing that threw us off was all the floaties in the water ( they didn't tell us if it was infused and thus the residue) so we just avoided it all together. I'm not vegan or vegetarian, but they have an entirely veg menu. I ordered egg roll salad, it was pretty tasty if a bit bland. I added soy sauce and hot oil chilies to it and that really increased the flavor. Overall, if you're looking for a good veg lunch this is a good spot to try. if you're in a pinch and cant read the whole review, here is the rundown: GO HERE! options for EVERYBODY, incredible food, wonderful vibe. I think this is my new favorite restaurant! Food, ambience, pricing, and service are ALL 10/10. Staff are very nice, welcoming, and kind. Leftovers and takeaway are packaged efficiently and well. The resturant itself is tidy, well maintained, clean, welcoming, and very cute. Cool chairs and unique decorations. Would be a wonderful place to host a get together or birthday party. Unique condiments and sauces come with many items. All ingredients are of high quality. The dishes here are very interesting and special, many dishes I have not seen or heard of before. Everything was good. I can be picky and sensitive so thats huge coming from me. Flavorful Thai tea comes in either soy or dairy option - I loved it. Very good and not watered down like some other places. Drumsticks were very unique and very fun to eat. So tasty and delicious, I seriously cannot imagine how much work is put into these intricate dishes. Incredible prices. The value for such hearty and healthy food cannot be beat. Service - quick service (15-20 mins for 3 items for a 5 pm order), and staff was friendly. But the sauce of the food they put in our plastic bag was spilling all over, so that was not ideal. Price - a bit pricey but I guess it is harder to cook vegan. So that was acceptable. Food - while the food generally tasted good, the flavor was just not as expected based on the name of the dish. Below is my review of what we ordered: - potatoes curry with vegan chicken: nothing about this dish tasted like curry. Instead, it tasted like ginger intensely. So beware if you don't like ginger. - caramelized vegan chicken: this seems like a random dish with primarily spinach and tomatoes being thrown into sweet sauce together with vegan chicken slices. I placed a pick up order yesterday for 3 lunch specials. The food was cooked and packed fast. I appreciated that they were willing to substitute the tofu and vegan chicken in the potato curry lunch special per my friend's request. One of my friends got the lemongrass chicken lunch special with white rice. She said it was really good and I could tell she enjoyed it. My other friend got the potato curry lunch special with brown rice. She loved her order too and said she would definitely order from them again. I ordered the combination stir fried veggies lunch special with brown rice. I loved it and thought it was delicious and not too salty. The veggies were cooked perfectly for me. Not too hard, not too soft. The rice was a generous portion. I only ate half and saved the other half for later. I did finish the vegetables, tofu, and vegan chicken though. I would definitely order this again. For me, the lunch special is a great value for a healthy meal with generous portions. Pick up was fast and easy. Ordering over the phone was easy too. I thought the service was prompt and friendly. The inside of the restaurant is pretty small, but it wasn't crowded when I went inside on a Friday afternoon. There were only a few people dining in. My wife wanted a tofu dish so we had the Lemongrass tofu. The tofu had some nice crunch and the sauce was thick and rich. Also had the Chicken Potatoes Curry (the Veggy chicken was also very good). I'd really love to support a vegan restaurant. Especially a small family-run one where the service is as excellent as this one's is. The ambiance is lovely, and the owner is wonderfully attentive! But sadly, I was in major GI distress for 24 hours after eating here this time. The basil eggplant was tasty, but the accompanying brown rice was quite dry. The foo young seemed overcooked. My guest ordered the vermicelli dish, and liked it. We shared all three dishes. Luckily, she suffered no ill-effects. We were the first two customers in just after opening, and just four more came in while we were there (three dine-in, one take-out.) This was my third visit, and I'm really sorry to say I don't plan to go back. Having to spend major time in the bathroom is not my favorite way to end a meal. This place used to be terrific, and I really hope they can re-group. read more

As far as knowing it's not like Michelin stars - for what it is - & compared to other Chinese places I've had takeout from around here - I think it deserves 5 stars as it was all tasty & the servings were decent - & good value with the lunch special - they give you LOTS of rice with it. (I usually like to make a meal of fried rice out of my Chinese leftovers as I don't usually eat much rice with my meals - this time the food was so good I didn't want to do that & ate it all just the way it was. I picked a couple of items off the lunch special (potatoes curry & basil eggplant) & asked the man on the phone if he'd recommend a 3rd (he recommended the ginger "chicken") all very tasty, decent portions - my favorite of the 3 was the potato curry - I did wish there were more potatoes in it! LOVE sweet caramel-ly curry - definitely craving it again! Also tried the salt & pepper "shrimp" off the regular menu as that was what I had mainly gone there to try - along with the potatoes curry - (after reading Yelp reviews.) Overall was pleasantly happy with it - it was as described by other reviewers - "shrimp" coating was VERY crunchy! - there were an abundance of nice fresh bright colored vegetables - & I loved the julienne style of the carrots & zucchini - & bright red peppers & broccoli - all cooked perfectly - just the way I like it - soft enough yet still brightly colored - & topped with fresh cilantro & jalapeño slices (this picture was after I got home - it was even prettier & brighter/fresher right out of the restaurant - I just forgot to take a picture in the car) - only thing the sauce was very watery - I wasn't expecting that - & like a cup of it leaked out into the bag! Regardless, I will definitely get those 2 dishes again. Thought about asking if they'd do one without the soy products for someone who can't eat soy - Idk if they will do special requests. I truly enjoyed all the leftovers for 2 days! And still want to go back for more! That's why I gave 5 stars! It was a nice treat for me especially that the leftovers held up wonderfully. *** Vegetarian Review *** Traveling through town, typed vegetarian in Yelp, and Veggie Today saved me from another to Panda Express for eggplant tofu. Veggie Today's menu says it all ... 100% Vegetarian Restaurant. Comparison: If you're a regular at Loving Hut, you will love Veggie Today as much or better. I found that the food stayed hotter much longer which for me, places Veggie Today slightly ahead of Loving Hut. Two Tips for First Timers: (1) Free street parking (2) Since you're already on Yelp, scroll through the pictures and order what looks good to you Vegan Meat and Tofu Over Rice Beef (Grade A) "Beef" marinated in a sweet and savory sauce, almost to a point of caramelization. The beef is thinly sliced so you get a great balance of chew and sauce each bite. The beef slices are most likely wok-prepared and the dish remained hot for a very long time once it was delivered to the table. It comes served on a bed of lettuce, pickled cucumber, carrots, tomatoes, and lotus flower. Before placing the beef on top, they pour a sauce similar to that is served with pho. Don't worry ... it's vegetarian. Further touch of Vietnamese influence, they also place a small portion of rice noodles with that shredded tofu. I don't know what it's called, but if you've ever had pho at Huong Lan, it's just like that. Salt and pepper shrimp (Grade A++) I love it when I find a dish that becomes the bar for what the dish should taste like. I've eaten this dish at Loving Hut and Noble Vegetarian (Sacramento), but both are nothing like this. What's the difference? Glad you asked ... while generally prepared the same way, the presentation and what the shrimp is served with at Veggie Today is unmatched. I saw some reviews of this dish saying it was too crispy, but I'm usually the one that asks for extra crispy. But the overall test for too crunchy for me is that the top of your mouth gets torn and scraped like after a large bowl of Frosted Flakes. Before I became a vegetarian 25+ years ago, I would love the popcorn chicken at KFC. Well, this is the closest to that I've had. Near identical batter and in my opinion, fried to perfection. The trick here is taking the shrimp off the plate and placing them onto a clean plate so they don't get soggy from the bed of shredded zucchini and carrots that are in a similar dressing typically served with pho. If that's not enough, it's surrounded by a bed of steamed broccoli and sliced jalapeños are thrown into the vegetable medley. Cutting the shrimps in half and eating them with a forkful of everything mentioned above is what Food Network hosts call "The Best Thing I've Ever Eaten." Overall Restaurant Observations: No outside seating and when we were there, a lot of take out. The servers were very attentive and our order arrived in less than 10 minutes. If you want a window seat, they have a few tables that can accommodate that need. Bottom Line: If you're a vegetarian, it's exciting to see a menu that says "100% Vegetarian" without having to drive to San Francisco like we use to many, many years ago. If you're one that just wants to partake in Meatless Mondays, order the salt and pepper shrimp for eat in or take-out and maybe Meatless Mondays morphs into Tofu Tuesdays. read more

This place was outstanding for lunch. We eat plant-based only and it's not easy to find truly delicious food, presented nicely. The foo young was super. So was the basil eggplant with tofu and the green bean dish with tofu and hot peppers. The sauces on every dish were tasty and beautifully seasoned. And the service was excellent. We will be back! Two potential drawbacks, though, especially for dinner: (1) The ambiance is very casual and (2) i don't think they have a liquor license, so I'd probably go there only for a super casual dinner or get takeout.
