Love this place

I thought it was closed because it was dark but a light shone through and we tried Valenti's for the first time and OMG! The food was amazing, the staff was incredible, everything was outstanding. Arancini as an appetizer, was so good we ordered another. I think the bread was homemade it was delicious and I had a Caesar salad was amazing then was too full for the risotto but that was the icing on the cake. Best I found in Luzerne County. Will definitely visit again. If you go, make reservations

Gnocchi and sausage

Great food and service! We had a big group and were seated right away. Our waitress Desiree was incredibly attentive as was the rest of the staff! Highly recommend a visit.

$36 steak that was supposed to be medium, but is extremely well done, dry and like a hockey puck. Disappointing.

Grico's Restaurant - Seafood fra diavolo

Grico's Restaurant

Since Valentine's Day was on a Saturday this year, we opted for a Thursday night celebration, and…read moremost places weren't offering a special dinner outside of their weekend reservations. We were lucky enough to score a romantic, private booth at Grico's and they were offering their Valentine's menu as far out as Thursday. There was a perfect pace to our meal, and the drinks were noticeablely delicious. The appetizers were flavorful but still light; no heavy breading on the clams casino, really nicely seasoned and the jumbo lump crab cocktail was so fresh I just opted for a squeeze of lemon. The salads were incredible; the croutons on the Caesar were crisp and airy, the toasted pine nuts with the arugula salad added that crunch that some salads are missing. It would have been an epic meal even if it had to end there, but the entrees delivered as well. The massive portion of Seafood Fra Diavolo (shrimp, scallops, calamari and clams in spicy marinara over linguine) had my fiance packing leftovers, and the only reason I didn't finish my meal was to have another crack at this savory peppercorn encrusted bone-in pork shank beauty the next day. Rested on a mushroom brandy cream sauce, with broccoli and oven-roasted crispy seasoned potatoes, every bite smothered in that sauce was delicious. We felt like, for what we got, it was an excellent value and items were appropriately priced; staff were very welcoming and had great, honest and personal recommendations to help us decide between all the great menu options. This is basically seafood-forward Italian dining done right, with top-notch cocktails in an inviting atmosphere...we'll most certainly be back!

First the good: the food is amazing! Handmade pastas are out of this world. Entrees top notch…read more Desserts are on point. That olive cake is to die for. The bad: this point has to do with their automatic gratuity system. Nothing to do with the kitchen. I am not sure if anything over a party of 4 gets automatic tip, but it falls apart here: the bottle list. We ordered a bottle of wine. $115. Total cost with tax and gratuity is $143. That's $27 over the cost of the actual bottle. Or a 20% tip roughly. And they probably calculated the tip post tax. Had I known that I would not have ordered a bottle. Now for the arguments of "serving a bottle involves some labor that should be compensated ". Let's do the math. The cheapest bottle they have is 60$. If you were to charge gratuity and tax on this bottle it would be $76.20. That's only $16.30. Not a bad price right? Given the service of opening said bottle and pouring it. BUT... The most expensive bottle they have is $360. If you order that bottle, you will be paying an extra $97.20. That is a huge markup. And if I'm missing something, tell me how the service on a $360 bottle is different than the service on a $60 bottle. Does the server come out with a little song and dance for the more expensive one justifying an additional $97.20 on a $360 bottle of wine? Do you realize how absurd this is? My guess is that the owners don't realize the point I'm trying to make- to give them the benefit of the doubt. That is the best situation. The worst is if the owners know this, and are fleecing the customers. I'd like to believe this is not the case. To sum up: go for the food. Order wine by the glass. DO NOT order bottle service. You will be in for a nasty surprise. The average markup for A bottle of wine is 3x the amount in a restaurant. Retail my bottle was $45. I know this. And if it's $115, that's fair. After all the restaurant makes more money on liquor sales than food. I'm okay with that. But what I find reprehensible is that they charge a service fee on top of that. Which by my calculation is 20%. Therein lies the fallacy. The same 20% charge is applied to the cheapest to most expensive bottle. The effort made to open and serve said bottles are exactly the same! They don't disclose this practice to the patrons. I've run this by multiple people I know. They all say this practice is shady as hell. Enough said, go for the food. Don't get a bottle of wine.

The restaurant is run by siblings who are absolutely amazing, and cultivate such a warm, inviting, family vibe. It makes you feel so cozy. Also they have an amazing rotating selection of seasonal cocktails that are absolutely divine. And Alyssa is an amazing bartender! Each time, the food was disappointing. We always ordered takeout, and the noodles were consistently stuck together and kind of runny. The gnocchi was especially unpleasant, the sauce tasted sour and off, which completely ruined it. Comparing the sizes of the gnocchi as well, you can go somewhere else and get bigger pieces for the same price or less. While the pricing is pretty standard for similar places, the quality just doesn't justify it. The food simply doesn't taste good. I don't plan on coming back again, especially if I am looking for a genuinely good pasta dish.

With that said this still should've been a five star experience if not for a couple tiny hiccups. First off, I started off drinking at their bar and bottle shop across the parking lot. In fact, I was going to get a pizza over there, except I wanted to be all healthy and get a salad as well, which was not offered on the limited, pizza and snacks only menu available at the bottle shop. I closed my tab and walked across the parking lot only find a very interesting set up of a to go area very much separated from a sit down only restaurant. Quickly figured out I need to be in the to go area, where I was able to get a draft beer while I waited for my pizza and salad to go. Luckily I asked for a min to settle my tab as I wanted a can to take with me, at which point I found out about the cash only aspect. Last part of slight disappointment resided in the fact that they let me sit there with an empty glass without telling me my pizza was ready, until I finally went to the counter and they asked if I was ready to go. Uh yeah I was actually. By the time I go back to the hotel 14 minutes away, the pizza had gotten cold and required reheating. Fortunately, it was good enough that even with the reheat, revealed itself to be one hell of a pizza. Subtract another fraction of a point for not putting any plastic silverware for my salad. By the way, salad was fine, but pizza slaps.
