Wow! I was completely blown away by my experience at Sidel's this past Saturday. I was coming from out of town and looking for a place to host a birthday party and my family in the area recommended Sidel's and I'm so glad they did. They hosted a large party for us and were incredibly accommodating the entire time. They made sure everyone's drinks were filled, that they got all the right food to the right people- they had a lot of staff supporting us throughout the evening. They even got a cake for the party and it was spectacular. I thought the food was very good and reasonable and everyone else in our party did as well. I would not recommend. What we had to deal with at sidels was very unprofessional and not fine dinning at all. Our family spends good money at this place and we just wanted to have a nice dinner with our family and instead we had to listen to screaming and stomping from the owners wife Christine. She would degrade her staff right in front of us. She was screaming at her staff and so was the owner. I'm not sure why they think those doors stop the sound but we could hear everything that was being said and the owner was screaming at the waitresses as well. And the whole dinning room got to witness the very young lady run out in tears because the owner was screaming shut up at her and she ran outside in tears. We could hear the owners wife trash talking her staff and it was very uncomfortable and unprofessional to say the least. Our drinks were rushed and our food had the same result . I had a very poor experience at sidels this Saturday. Took my family out to eat and Christine the owners wife was screaming at her staff. Not only was Christine screaming at the staff but the owner him self could be heard from the dinning room screaming at his staff and I witnessed a very young waitress run out of the back door where the screaming was coming from and out another door while crying. We felt absolutely awful to see all the waitresses crying because of the mistreatment. We had better hopes from sidels. Honestly the service was great from the other girls when they weren't getting screamed at. It was very uncomfortable. Our drinks weren't good but we drank them anyway. Our food wasn't the best either. But what really appalled us is the way they treat their staff. I heard the owners wife calling people dumb and she would stomp her feet and slam into the doors and do all of this next to people trying to have birthday meals. Very very disappointed. Very attentive staff, well paced meal, drink specialist, great food selection, perfectly cooked dishes, homemade pasta, it was a great experience. Salads soups steak seafood and a mountain of veal Marsala everything was was so... I wish we were picture people so you could see. Ran out of time for dessert (our fault-if we'd told them we had a show when we got there...) but the dessert tray was vast and beautiful. While out of town for work, I was in the mood for Italian food, so I stopped in this restaurant. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and was greeted by the bartenders Donovan and Ryan. They both served me and were great. The restaurant was intimate and dimly lit. I started with rhe Appletini and it was delicious! I then had the pinot nior. For my meal I got the seafood fra diavolo and it too was good! I enjoyed the shrimp and clams mainly, but I could of done without the lobster. DOESN'T RECOMMEND!!Last night a waitress here clearly tried to rob us! I paid $45 cash then wanted to put the rest on my card. She came back said the card machine was broken ( no big deal) My dad handed her a $50 bill&she never brought his change back. I asked her for a receipt to show we paid, she gave me a song and a dance about having to go write up another receipt. We had already been there for 2 hours & I had to leave, on my way way home I realized I forgot to leave tip on table so I called to give my cc info to leave the tip. later that evening I got a call back saying I never fully paid the bill. That waitress took my $50 and pocketed it!! When I spoke to her on the phone she flat out lied!!, even though I told her (after I paid) that she never gave him the change. She even said (oh I owe you whatever the amount was) She said we never gave her the $50!?! my elderly dad clearly pulled it out of his wallet & handed it to her. Thankfully Christine the manager took care of everything for us! Btw it wasn't Wendy, she was awesome, it was the other lady there on the evening of 2/22 short dark hair (older)! Needless to say we won't be back! Why would I ask for a receipt or change back if we didn't pay you!?!?!?!?!?! Why would I call to leave tip on cc if I was trying to steal?? My experience here was absolutely amazing. Let me start by saying I have Celiacs and require gluten free accommodations. It can be a struggle to find a safe place to eat. I heard Sidel's can accommodate and what I learned was they sure can. Almost all of what they make in house can be made gluten free. The menu was great, for both people with and without food allergens. They are very knowledgeable and considerate about food allergies. I had a birthday party of 12. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals and experience here. When our waitress found out we didn't have a cake, the staff went out to the store and got us one. Not only that, they took the time to personalize it before serving. Are you kidding?! Where does one get this kind of service anymore?! Here is the best part. They knew I couldn't eat the cake due to the gluten so they went ahead and served me a piece of what can only be described as chocolate heaven gluten free cake. Is this real life?! I was passing through Scranton and hoped to find a gluten free accessible place. Sidel's delivered! First of all, the staff was incredibly nice. It was rather busy on a Tuesday evening but we were seated immediately without a reservation. The bartender came right to our table and he was very polite and made an excellent cocktail (Peach Ring). Our waitress, Christine, was the sweetest waitress one could ask for. I was told the menu could be almost all gluten free. Our waitress said they've been aware of and accomodating gluten free needs for 18 years. I ordered a gluten free chicken parm. The breading was wonderful! Flavorful, stayed on the chicken, and crispy. I went for the added on eggplant--id skip next time. Also, I'd ask for a bit less red sauce as it overwhelmed the dish a tad. This was served over gluten free rotini which held together nicely. My partner got the veal parm which he enjoyed and preferred over chicken. Both out our meals came with house salads which were excellent. So often I find house salads are just iceberg and hardly cut tomatoes...not this one! House white vinegrette and crumbly blue cheese was great. I would come back to this place and try more of the menu if I lived here. Go try it out! read more

I randomly found this place. They said it was lobster night so that's what I had! For an appetizer I had the fried green tomatoes topped with lump crab and remoulade. we went to Sidel's tonight based on the recommendation of a new friend. we didn't have reservations but were seated promptly (i would recommend reservations) and cheerfully. Christine explained the menu and the way they work to make your experience a positive one. The night was challenging for them because they have both outside and inside seating and the impending storm resulted in many diners moving seats. The staff was remarkably adaptive and seemed to remember where everyone ended up and managers order delivery seamlessly. the ambiance was homey and not stuffy or offputting. we had the shrimp appetizer which was delivered hot and well presented. it was just a touch overcooked but has a great taste. For dinner, the filet from the menu and the sea bass special. Both were cooked as ordered with ample portions. not to be redundant, but the wait staff (various people by design) were all friendly and efficient. one of the better meals we've had this year. kudos to the management and staff and thanks for a great evening. we'll come again soon. read more

2/2 Dinner arrived after 2 other tables received their dinner, despite ordering after us. The first thing we noticed were the 2 shrimp tails in my scallop dish, along with the odd color of the scallops. The veal marsala was the color of molasses and tasted like BBQ sauce. I quietly removed the shrimp tails, but the dish was flavorless and barely warm. My daughter cut her filet that was supposed to be medium, yet was well done. The salmon dish was just topped with a basic ham glaze. When the lobster was unable to be cut with a knife because it was so rubbery, we finally called the waitress over. Christine was highly offended by our complaints (we only expressed our dinner concerns) and said she had never heard so many things wrong at one table. She took the 2 surf and turfs and the scallops, we told her we didn't want anything, and we didn't see her for quite some time. One of the server's assistants arrived with a second scallop dish and stated the 2 lobsters would be out soon, and we were puzzled. Christine then came to see if everything was better. We reminded her that we said we didn't want anything, and her response was that their policy is to remake anything that is sent back, so there we sat waiting for the two lobsters to be brought out. 25 minutes had passed since Christine first collected overcooked lobster when an older lady came over with the dessert display. We said we didn't want dessert, we were waiting for the 2 lobsters and the check. She snapped that she didn't know, and she would be back with our check. She brought the check and rudely said she would take it when we were ready. Naively, we didn't study the check as we just wanted to leave. My daughter put her card in, and my son held the book up. The lady then ripped it from his hand. At this point, I followed her into the restaurant to address the experience. Her entire demeanor was rude. I asked if she was a manager, to which she said no. I told her I did not appreciate her ripping the book from my son's hand. My daughter came in to sign the receipt. The older lady offered a narcissistic apology for ripping the book from my son, then proceeded to put her hand on my daughter and said we could leave now. One of the bartenders, Donovan, chimed in and also put his hands on my daughter. To which, the obvious statement was to not put their hands on her. At this point, the older lady announced she would be calling the cops. I replied that was fine because I was still waiting for the lobsters, and if it was taking this long, they were probably overcooked again. A young girl appeared called the older Mom, in what seemed like an attempt to say the older woman was overreacting by threatening to call the cops. Meanwhile, the snarky Donovan added that if we all worked in food service, we understand our order was not the only dish being cooked. Clearly, he did not understand my response that if a dish is sent back, and their policy is to remake it, that should have priority. I then went to stand back near our outdoor table, when after a few minutes, Donovan came to investigate if we had departed. I reminded him we were still waiting for those lobsters. He sarcastically stated he thought we didn't want anything. I responded that we just paid for them, so we'd be taking them. So he made his way to the kitchen to check on them. He came out to tell me that since we said we didn't want anything, they had canceled the order. I told him I was willing to wait for them, to which he was shocked. At this point, what was another 25 minutes. So he offered to return our money, I accepted this offer and followed him back inside for the partial refund. As he looked at the bill, he claimed the bill was adjusted, and we were not charged for the lobsters when Christine, who we had not seen for a while, came over. She still could not believe we were so unhappy. I said I was just coming back in for the partial refund since their policy was to remake anything sent back, and the lobsters never came back out. She stated that after she collected the dishes, she never put the order in for the lobsters because we didn't want anything. So, how did the scallops come out? What order was Donavan claiming that had been canceled? After taking a picture of the receipt that night and comparing it to their menu the next day, did I discover we had been overcharged. read more

Food was good. Service was poor. There were 7 in our group. only half the soups came out. Had to ask where the others are. Then only half the salads came out. Had to again ask where the others were. Service was slow. People in our party were charged for drinks they did not have. Drank 2 and charged for 3. Five out of 7 bills were wrong and we were overcharged. The gratuity's was included in our bills unfortunately because our tips would have been less for the poor service. Definitely not worth the money. read more

literally would've given zero stars if Yelp allowed it. Half of our drinks had no taste, half of them were not mixed at all. One drink was served on ice in a small bucket and the bucket was covered in rust. Plates were dirty and had to be wiped off. The wrong dressing was on one of the salads. Lobsters were over cooked to the point that a steak knife could not cut through it. a rare steak was cooked medium and the medium steak was over well. all staff had attitudes and ripped the check out of our hands. Scallops has zero flavor and were over cooked multiple times. literally the worst dining experience wece ever had. A woman brought desserts around and we declined and just asked for the check for the third time and she had an attitude. The same one brought the check and ripped it out of our hands. Had an 8 person celebration at Sidel's. Ordinary looking on the outside, but the inside is cozy, vibrant and spirited. During our 2 hour dinner, timing between drinks, appetizers and entrees was wonderful and no rush, we were greeted by the Bartender, the Hostess, the Manager and near the end, by the Chef. All were so personable, interesting and tried to make us all feel at ease, as if we were eating in our homes. That was a truly amazing thing to do, but that was overly exceeded by the entrees and specials offered. Everyone raved about their meals, from Double Thick Pork Chop covered with Jack Daniel's Bourbon Sauce to the Sauteed Tender Veal Medallions with Roasted Peppers and Sun Dried Tomatoes to my choice of 'out of this world', Chicken Scarpariello with Hot Sausage.  If you'd enjoy generous portions of superb taste and quality at decent prices mixed with a comfy, hospitable and relaxing atmosphere, give Sidel's a try. read more

The food was good, but the service was horrible! The woman who waited on us was one of the owners. I understand you're a small mom and pop place and your food is made to order. We didn't mind waiting for our food. The food was actually really good so no complaints there. The problem started when I ordered a drink with grey goose vodka. Well, it didn't taste like the vodka I ordered. I even had my husband taste it and he didn't think so either. I then asked the owner to check and make sure it was the vodka that I ordered. She immediately got offended by me asking her to check. Saying how her bartenders are trained and they never make mistakes. I wasn't implying he was trying to do a switcheroo or anything. I was actually very nice so she wouldn't be offended. I simply thought he used the wrong vodka by mistake. Guess what all people can make mistakes! The normal response should be let me go check and I'll be right back or even offer to remake the drink. Not make me feel like I'm a criminal. After that everything went downhill. We sat there with empty glasses and the waitresses just walked by us numerous times. We then sat there waiting and waiting just to get our check. My husband just wanted to pay in cash and leave. I was trying to treat him to a nice night out since it was our anniversary. I was then asked to show ID because my debit card was not signed like I'm a thief! I mean how many people actually compare a signature on the back of the card these days? It was just ridiculous and another way to make me feel uncomfortable. It was very embarrassing as a customer sitting there digging through my purse, looking for my ID . She also already ran the card so I don't know what she was gonna do if I didn't want to show my ID. Thanks for ruining my anniversary dinner with my husband. You really need to learn how to treat people. I've received better treatment from a chain restaurant than at your establishment. Just because you put table cloths on your tables doesn't make it a fine dining restaurant! I was in such shock about my treatment. 1/2 If you have a palette and standards, avoid this place. Sidel's was recommended, so we made a 45-minute drive to celebrate birthdays. We had reservations for 5 for 5:45. When we arrived, we were seated by one of the bartenders, in the back dining room where it was extremely warm and dim, and given dingy, sticky menus. A server, Christine, dressed in a black T-shirt and stretch pants, came to take our drink order. She asked if we had been there recently, and we responded that this was our first time. So she explained how the service worked, how she would be taking our order, someone else would bring it, another person would be checking on us, the bartenders would come over for drinks, etc. She explained the menu section by section, and she dumbed it down as if she were speaking to children. She explained what came with 2 sides, as opposed to no sides for pasta and rice dishes, etc. She discussed the pictures in the menu were not stock photos, but actual plates made in-house and were their most popular dishes. Christine then announced the specials, one being Fried Green Tomatoes, fresh from the farmers market, with a remoulade sauce, which she described as a thousand island dressing. This made our table cringe as we all work/worked in food service. Yet, we respectfully listened to her lengthy speech. She suggested that if we saw something on the specials, that we get it, because the chef changes the menu often and we may not see those specials again. Still in the very warm dining room, we asked if we could move to the outside dining area to enjoy one of the last few nice October evenings. They said that would be no problem. We moved to an outdoor table, and Christine came to take our drink order. Then came back for our appetizer order. We ordered one Fried Green Tomato appetizer special and Stuffed Mushrooms. She insisted we order two of each so there would be enough, we said we'd be sharing and just wanted a small amount to sample. She again was persistent as if she was receiving commission and stated we should get more than one. Thankfully, we did not. After we placed our appetizer order, our drinks were delivered by the other bartender, Donovan. My daughter was served an Appletini, with a small bucket of the remainder on the side. When she took the small carafe out, the bottom of the bucket was extremely rusty. My boys were served a fall version of a Moscow mule. None of these drinks were mixed. We then placed our dinner order. 2 Surf and Turfs (one filet medium, one filet rare), Scallops in a Sherry Cream Sauce, Veal Marsala, and Salmon with an Apple Glaze. Our appetizers arrived. Sure enough, what was advertised as remoulade sauce on the fried green tomato was literally, just thousand island dressing. The tomato, though battered and fried, somehow was still raw. The mushrooms were nothing special. Next were the salads, which was a bagged mix, with a few rotten, soggy pieces. My salad was supposed to be balsamic, but delivered with a house dressing. At this point, we still had not said anything about the unpleasantness of everything thus far. We foolishly remained optimistic and open-minded about dinner. read more

The food in this place is pretty good and the staff friendly. My pork chop special was delicious but the baked potato came out too cold to even melt the butter. Don't order "house" wine - it's bottom shelf, a very small pour and they charge more per glass than the bottle would cost. I love dining here because the inside reminds me of a cozy old home/ maybe former speakeasy; the tables in the first room are tightly packed in but it makes the place comfy and everyone talks a little louder to compensate for the close proximity. Table talk and the clinking of utensils is just my scene. The food is also fantastic. We've enjoyed their Chicken Marsala with sautéed mushrooms and eggplant and I recently tried their House Speciality pasta which had large scallops on a bed of linguini in a sherry cream sauce. You could definitely taste the sherry and the 5 scallops mixed in were absolutely huge. The house salad that comes complimentary with your entree is also really well done. Nice portion topped off with olives, tomatoes, onions and fresh greens. What is unfortunate about Sidel's is the wait to get service. I'm trying not to be too critical because we originally picked a different place to dine before seeing a show, but since they were backed up we had no choice to venture out which is when we bumped into Sidel's. We've eaten here before so it's a place where we know we like the food. But the wait...ugh. It's irritating to walk in and have to stand near a table of people who are trying to enjoy their meals for several minutes before even seeing a person who works there. And then to be seated and have to wait even longer to have the server come over. And the problem seems simple enough. You have 1 server and 1 bartender doing everything. They work as the hostess, food runner, busser, along with taking orders and checking to make sure everything is going well. Yes, the place is small, but still, to be packed on a Sunday along with a few people sitting at the bar, it's unacceptable to have no one present when you walk in and then to wait for service, albeit the server being attentive and sweet once she had a minute to catch her breath. When you lack staff, other areas worthy of 5 star quality lack too, such as no toilet paper in the bathroom and that rushed, panicked energy from your server running around. I've worked in several restaurants as a server and it feels awful when you have unhappy customers because you are understaffed and things don't run nearly as smooth or efficient as they should. Great food with a mom and pop style feel. But being shorthanded / under staffed really put a crutch in our dining experience. read more

Last week I went to dinner with my friend to Sidel's. We had a 5 pm reservation and she got there first at 5pm. She asked if we could have a different table as she did not like where ours was. A young waitress said sure and led my friend to another table. An older waitress who I will call Mary here, but I think her real name starts with a C or K, got angry with the young girl and told her the table was taken. Again the girl said it was not and again Mary said it was. The girl showed Mary a table list and it was not. My friend sat down. I arrived at 5:05 pm. After a few minutes, Mary came over for our order. I asked for more time. Very soon after the bartender came over for our drink order which we gave him and he returned with the drinks quickly. He had a great personality and smile to match. At 5:15 Mary came back and I asked for a few more minutes. She glared at me and rolled her eyes. I asked if there was a time limit on the table and after checking with the owner said the next seating was at 7pm. At 5:45pm she had not come back to take our order. She had been sitting at a table near us. I walked over and asked if she could take our order. She looked at me with a sneery smile and said "oh I think you're over your time limit now" I asked her if she was being passive aggressive. Suddenly the owner appeared and in a voice that shook the walls yelled "Get out of my restaurant now! You've been rude to my waitress and bartender. Get out or I'll call the cops" I asked if I could talk to him about this. He repeated again in a booming voice "Get out or I'll call the cops ". We left. My friend felt Mary didn't like her the minute she walked in. We are both retired nurses and at age 67 have never ever had an experience like this. As we left the owner yelled "go ahead and put a bad review on Yelp, I don't care" So Ritchie here it is. We are still shaken by this shoddy treatment. We have told many people our story. It's apparent Mary has issues with tolerance and anger. Maybe choosing to ignore this will result in decline of business. Ritchie gave us not 1 second of his time to talk to us in a respectful manner and listen to our side of the story. Maybe he depends on established clientele. But as time goes on I would think all businesses would welcome new customers as the old ones won't be there forever. The one star is for the absolutely wonderful bartender!!! read more

Food and service were fantastic. I had the chicken parm and my girlfriend had veal marsala. We went the weekend after Valentine's Day and, as part of dinner, gave my girlfriend a flower and small box of chocolates. The staff made us feel very welcome and were always attentive. If you're looking for a more intimate setting, ask to be seated in the back half of the restaurant. The front is more of a bar setup which isn't ideal for a nice date night.
