Wow, I started my original review of Sibio's with "Being 18." I'm 30. I still write about food. With all respect due to the family, and with acknowledgement that I've had some special meals here, this restaurant is the arch-enemy of anyone who leaves Scranton, develops a palate in a big city, then comes back and is forced to accompany their grandmother to her favorite place. "Oh, nice, where are you guys going?" "Sibio's..." Sibio's is an institution. However, as far as cuisine goes, it is decades behind the curve. It caters to old people. Very old people. People who will live the rest of their days without trying a new restaurant. There is some charm here, but Sibio's has a menu that is frustratingly dated. It's the only lunch menu that has ever made me consider instead leaving the restaurant, walking home, making myself a grilled cheese, then walking back down, perhaps partially because my parents live three blocks away. read more

Delightful Mother's Day dinner with my mom. Entrees and Service were excellent. They don't just do Italian right, ....they do everything right. From cocktails to dessert, it was most enjoyable. While out of town, I stopped in at this restaurant for dinner. I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and was greeted and sat at the bar. David was my bartender. I started with the vodka martini, and then I had a glass of red wine. Both were great! For my meal, I got the stuffed red snapper special and it looked great! Let's start with the service. The waitress walked away from our table while I was in mid sentence and was super rude. When I spoke to the co owner his answer was "what do you want me to do about it. I asked for a new waitress and was told there are only 2 for the dining room. I understand short staffed but his answer was curt and I can see why the waitress thinks that behavior is ok. The food. The veal Marsala was flat and tasted adequate at best the meat was not tough so there is that.. The veal cordon blue was made with cheap ingredients. The ham was nothing more than prepackaged grocery store ham. Only half was eaten. I was visiting from San Diego and while I'm sure this restaurant is amazing for the area it wouldn't last a month in San Diego. Maybe our standards were too high for this recommended restaurant. We did have a bit of a wait once seated as the waitress walked by us several times before finally serving us. Once our order was placed, it did not take long for our meals to be out. The food was absolutely delicious with a great presentation. The price for lunch was also amazing for such an outstanding restaurant. I've always loved this restaurant. It doesn't bother me in the least bit that all the other customers are 30 to 40 years older than me, as other posters have noted. I'm not sure why the age of customers should be an issue. I go for the food. My go to here has always been chicken parm because it's been consistently excellent. But at my most recent visit, the chicken has been overcooked with the breading actually being burned along the edges. The pasta was also past the al dente stage and a little gummy. What a disappointment. Service is always great, so no complaints there. The man that takes reservations (I'm told he is the owner but not sure) is very rude. We called for a table recently and he said "no" and hung up. Unbelievable. We actually heard him telling a server "Well you better learn" in front of customers. Definitely a turn off. read more

Had lunch today and really enjoyed the food, service and ambience. The place was very busy and prices reasonable for lunch portions. Every dish that went by looked amazing. Went here for a family dinner and it was lovely! There was 12 of us so it was definitely a large order but the staff was on par and kept up with us! The penne vodka was very yummy! Had dinner here to celebrate my daughter's college graduation. Haven't been to the restaurant in about 10 years and I was terribly disappointed. The stuffed mushrooms were cold and tasteless. My daughter had angel hair pasta with meatballs, unfortunately, the meatballs on her plate did not resemble anything like a meatball and tasted either spoiled or their prep cook tried to be creative and added a strange ingredient that made them taste fishy! Salads and desserts were on par, just as I remember them from years ago. Service was top notch. This once incredible restaurant has gone downhill since Al and Bernie passed away. Not sure how this restaurant is still open. Owner/manager - Dave - is rude and downright obnoxious. You can hear him speak badly to the wonderful staff. Treats patrons as though they are an imposition. Food is okay - no salad or bread with Italian dinner. Prices are moderate to upper for what you receive. Much better Italian restaurants in Scranton area. And absolutely no way for people with disabilities to enter! Must go up steps no matter how you enter - Dave again acts like someone with a disability is an inconvenience to him! How is it allowed to remain in business? This was our go-to restaurant when I lived in the area 35 years ago. Not much has changed. The Cesar and spinach salads were delicious. The fettuccine Alfredo was just as delicious as I remembered. My boyfriend and I like to drive around sometimes hoping to just stumble upon new places to go to eat. We were driving around Scranton with the maps up seeing what pops up and we ended up here. It was Monday after Mother's Day and it was very busy. We felt a little underdressed, as we weren't sure what kind of place it was, but when we walked in we were welcomed to such a warm pleasant, slightly upscale atmosphere. For it being so busy, and not having a reservation, I know the staff made an exception and sat us and we were so grateful. The food was absolutely OUTSTANDING. We started out with the Calamari Fra Diavlo and Rolled Eggplant appetizers, both wonderfully prepared, we each had a dinner salad - my boyfriend had their house balsamic dressing and it was delicious (I regret my Italian dressing choice, though it was very good!). For dinner I had the shrimp scampi with mixed vegetables. There was a very good portion of shrimp and the sauce was so good. Boyfriend had Chicken Franchaise, his favorite dish, and ended up taking half of it home for later. We shared Creme Brulee for dessert (my first time ever having it) with fresh strawberries and a cup of coffee. The entire meal was fantastic, and for the quality and quantity, I believe, for the upscale feel of the place, the prices were very reasonable. The staff all walked around with smiling eyes (masks prevented us from seeing actual smiles) and were attentive and helpful at all times. The owner was out on the floor assisting wait staff as needed. We will definitely be back. We had such a beautiful, pleasant evening. About a year ago one night after having a little too much red wine I desperately needed dessert lol, so this was the nearest restaurant and I called to see what desserts they had available and the first thing they said was pumpkin cheesecake with a rum sauce, sold! When we went to finalize menu and seating, we were Informed that our room was being open to the general public as well. Their plan was to place us in the center of the restaurant with other patrons dining around us. They would not work with us at all. We were willing to pay more to rent out the room that was originally promised to us. This left us scrambling to find a new venue days before our wedding. Food is good. Pretty fresh seafood. Excellent service. We waited about 10-15 mins to get our drinks ordered and another 10 mins for our food to be ordered. I ordered spaghetti carbonara and it came out to be angel hair instead of spaghetti because they don't serve spaghetti =/ so I actually suggested that they modify the menu so it's not misleading. Authentic Italian cuisine is full of extraordinary flavors. However it's rare to find well prepared and tasteful Italian food. At Sibio's you just won't get enough of it! The experience starts with the restaurant being situated in Dunmore, Pa which is a a fairly mid-sized town in a partly residential neighborhood. The outside of the building can sometimes be deceiving do to the looks but once you set foot in the door you will be amazed. As you walk up the steps there is a coat closet to the side. Then you walk through the second door to the main area which then you are greeted by an older kind lady which is the owner; Mrs. Sibio. Shortly after walking in you will be seated if you have a reservation, otherwise you can take a seat at the bar until a table clears up. After being sat at a table, your waitress/waiter will introduce themselves in a very friendly way. He/She will set some bread and bagel chips on the table. They supply two kinds of butter a normal and then a in house prepared garlic and herb butter which has a wonderful flavor. You will find that there is a wide selection of food to fit anyone needs. Under the specials list is a strawberry and mandarin orange I absolutely have to have. Then for an entree the beef tornados which are two tender filets each on a slice of baked italian bread are fantastic. The filet is laid out just long enough for the juice of the filet to soak in the bread which makes it ever so tasteful. Following the entree you absolutely have to take a look at their dessert tray. Personally the best dessert would be the rum cake, due to it being so moist and just plain out delicious. The staff of this establishment is astonishing. You could say the whole staff is family because of the bond they all share. If you need anything they will supply you, if need be for a selection of an entree, food allergy, special order you name it they will bring it. I would recommend Sibio's to anyone that enjoys italian food. You will hold the taste of Italian food to high expectations after eating at this fine establishment. read more

Not the place you want to go if you're under 50. My girlfriend and I went here one night and because we didn't have a reservation, we would have to sit in the bar section and not the dining room. The dining room remained empty the entire time we were the as the bar got packed. The service was wretched and the food was mediocre. There are many other Italian restaurants within a mile from here. Great Italian cuisine, it's heavily populated by locals and regulars that keep coming back because the food is that good! It's a little upscale, wear khakis and nice shoes, I'd call the food Italian with a twist (They serve a bread basket but with the bread are also bagel chips). Just had lunch with a friend who was familiar with Sibios. We ordered off the price fix menu and were not disappointed. I had the seafood salad which had wonderful fresh squid, shrimp and crab. It was flavored very delicately and was not swimming in oil. My spouse had the ground veal patty and was equally impressed. Italian food can be very heavy but this meal was tasty and light. Great Italian food in Scranton! The menu can be a little pricey but it's worth it. The staff is great and they always offer specials that are not typically on their menu. They will even prepare a special you have had before, if they have the ingredients, even if it is not being offered that night.
