If you're looking for a low key dive bar that gets straight to the point in the form of CHEAP, strong drinks, then you can find it here. I'll confess that I have a secret love affair with this area of Long Beach and admittedly it can do no wrong as of yet, but the V Room is pretty awesome. It's right on the corner and it's hard to miss the huge vintage signage above the main entryway. I believe there's a tiny private parking lot off the side RIGHT when you turn the corner onto 4th St., but I went before the rush so street parking was no thang. There are a couple of pool tables, a great jukebox, booth seating against the back wall, and of course, bar stools. I can see this place getting pretty packed on a busy night. The bartender was friendly and I had no qualms about my drinks. I will say though that like many dive bars, this seems to be a watering hole for locals, but I didn't get any weird vibes that can happen when a newbie steps foot into a regular's arena. The V Room is the SHIT! I think it is a little better than Fern's or the Red Room which are just a couple blocks up the street. And I'll explain . . . . . . the V Room has the cheapest drinks. You can get drunk - like DRUNK - for less than $15! It's absolutely amazing! . . . the V Room has a kickin' jukebox. Although on this point, I'm sure you could argue that Ferns or the Red Room has a selection that is just as good (or better). . . . the V Room restroom doesn't have that funky stink to it. . . . the V Room doesn't get too overly crowded throughout the night. I've only been here a few times and never really liked it until the 3rd time and you know what they say... I really had a great time just chilling out with my friend, drinking ice cold beer and not having to worry that the place was too loud to hold a conversation. The music playing on the jukebox was really good. The V Room is a Long Beach landmark and has been in existence for what seems like forever. It's not the most flashy place you've ever tried to wet your whistle at, but if extravagant decor is what you're looking for then you shouldn't be checking out reviews of dive bars anyway. What you will get is cheap, stiff drinks poured by bartenders that will remember you the next time take a seat at their bar while listening to good music and surrounded by some of Long Beach's finest citizens. One of the best bars I've been to. I found this bar a couple of years ago, and I would go here every day if I could. Unfortunately I live over a hundred miles from it. That's the kind of bar this is, I went here once and loved it so much that I stop here every time I'm within 30 miles of it. Cheap well drinks and domestics. Friendly locals and regulars (as long as you're not an asshole). Great bartenders that would probably break your face if they needed to. Everything you look for in a bar. I was served by Melanie this last time and she was awesome. If you're in the area and you dont suck, swing by and check this place out. If you do suck, find some other place to drink. So, my friends and I were going to hike out to the Mai Tai bar one night (nothing against Mai Tai, we just didn't want to walk that far from my place) but then decided that we should stay local and walk literally across the street to The V Room. It's been there the whole time I've lived here, I just wasn't sure if it was a total biker place or something - ya know? I was a little intimidated, I guess. Man, we were super glad that we decided to check out this place. It's a total hole in the wall, with dedicated regulars, curious newcomers, and down-to-earth workers. It's kinda cooky inside with biker and skull paraphenalia, but it adds to the experience! I've been there a few times now, and love every moment. Their beers are only 4 bucks! How can you beat that? I havent deceided why, but this place calls to me...The juke box isnt particularly great, nor are the drinks...But its pretty cheap and its close... I cant explain it, but I just feel the good dive bar vibes here... The bar tenders are friendly, unlike the D-bags at the Red Room down the street...If youre looking for a place to grab a few drinks and chill this is the best place. This place has been here since the dawn of time. It's definately my favorite 4th Street dive. The bartenders are always friendly and engaging plus there's usually a lot of friendly regulars. It's a real eclectic mix of patrons that pretty much matches the neighborhood. Every age, every color, straight, gay, everyone just seems to have fun here. The drinks are stiff and at the right price. (ask about their drink specials) The jukebox has some really neat off-the-wall tunes of seemingly every interest. One of the formative dive bars of my life (though, as a sore loser, I happen to know that the Halloween costume contest in 2008 was totally rigged so that a Geisha riend-of-the-bar could pay her rent with her prize money). The place is a dump, the jukebox is unbelieveable, the crowd is a mix of great 20's-30's, a few colorful deadbeats who've been there since breakfast, and the beloved LB hipster elite, rockabillies and a few who live on the dangerous side. Cool bar. Very noisy it's hard to have conversations with people unless you yell. Gets really crowded and hard to maneuver through people just to get to a restroom or even walk around the place. The bartender was super friendly and handed me a couple bucks for the jukebox once her nany sinatra was done ..BIG PLUS...seeing that I was the only girl in there she picked me! Then a little discussion started heating up and then yelling started..I was right on the jukebox picking music the whole time listening to it since one guy was sitting on one corner and the other was caddy corner ( i was kinda in the middle) They were both alot older and harmless and definetly not sober.. I almost got excited and smiled to myself....THIS IS MY SPOT...now where's a tree or a bush I can pee on to claim it??? Oh went back again last friday night with my buddy..we had just bought a big red bull before we went..we starting guzzling it in the parking lot..then the light bulb went off and I was like 'wait maybe we can take it inside? he was like...go for it you take it your the girl (THANKS! Love this little dive bar. It's dim-lit with friendly staff who aren't afraid to be a little heavy-handed with the drinks, which I'm all for, considering it's a tad pricey. I've been there 4 times and I notice a lot of "usual customers" for such a small place, I admire that. One of the regulars is a jolly older man who a lot of people seem to know. My dad came to visit me from out-of-state, and we ended up sitting next to that old man, laughing and drinking for at least two hours and then walking home. I always have fun here. read more

The V Room is always stop #2 on the 4th street circuit.... First, my buddy lives on Atlantic, so we walk allllll the way down to Ferns (which, in my opinion, is the best dive bar in Long Beach). Put a few down over there (they got tall boys of PBR or even Bottingtons), then make a slightly buzzed trek down to V Room. The walk always seems much shorter the second time. Ok so passing the Red Room, stay on the north side of the street and just stare at the sidewalk... it's amazing. Ok anyway V Room. Right! So inside you'll notice the lack of sitting room. That's ok, the $4 rum and cokes make up for that. You'll be going to the bar so often you won't need a seat, save the sidewalk outside after you've blown $20 in about 30 minutes. At this point you stagger outside, say goodbye to the people you'll never see again every weekend, drunk dial a friend, and eat a chili dog while spilling grated cheese all over your friend's couch. I went here a couple years ago for an old co-worker's b-day party. I've always been intimidated by this bar since my co-worker was a big, brawny dude and I figured he would go to a bar where other big, brawny dudes hang out. It wasn't my scene and I never thought I would visit again. Recently, I've been passing V Room ALOT because my 22 year old friend (haha - shout out jennie K.) friend lives walking distance. We mentioned a few times we should check it out. The place was lively but not packed for a Saturday night. Thankfully, my friend found a seat at the end of the bar and the man next to us moved over one so we could both sit down. The bartender had our inexpensive drinks in front of us within a few minutes and another bartender was pretty attentive in making sure we were okay. Aside from the scary man asking us about our night on the short walk to V Room, we had a good time. Highlight: picking out songs on the jukebox. read more

I see some of the complaints but I LOVE THE Vroom!! The comments about discrimination are not true, its just that they like their regulars and obviously you're not. I have been going there for 3years now. This bar is for you if you are 25-75. (If your are 75, your best hours are 6am-2pm) Everybody else come after 4pm. --if you like it nice and dark --this bar is for ethnically disenfranchised individuals --That 30ish- 40ish crowd who survived the 1990's and now have children and their tattoos still look good --Theres a Mcdonalds less than a block away when you need to eat and sober up. --lots of characters including the "Bookie", "the 100year old German", ---And watch who you talk to: "Alcoholics that really will tell you How their day,week,month, life has been" --This place can be hookup central but watch out, even if you switch bars YOU WILL SEE THEM AGAIN. --I am a girl and sorry to say alot of the girls that go there are very plain looking, and rough (drinking her 3rd Pabst and whiskey at 12noon). My favorite bar in Long Beach. I try to go by for 1 beer, but then I strike up a conversation and someone buys me another beer. So out of courtesy I buy them a beer, then they buy me a shot. Then were all tanked and we order a pizza. Probably the friendliest bar you will ever go to. It's like Cheers with less teeth and more tattoos. The juke box selection is top notch classic punk. It's not a bad place, but if there ever was a dive bar that was trying too hard to be a dive bar, here it is. On the other hand The Red Room, just a few blocks down the street, is a bar that became one probably in a more organic way. I'm not saying one is better than the other, it's just an observation. Anyways, there known for what is called "friggin delicious flu shot." I don't know what's in it, but it goes down smooth and I love it. Unfortunately, not all the bartenders know how to make it. Service is hit or miss depending on who's behind the bar. Drinks overall are reasonably priced. IPA selection is crap. On weekends there sometimes is a taco guy in the parking lot, and also there's a lot of food options nearby. There's also a pool table. It's a big spot so you'll never feel claustrophobic in here. What I don't like is the hit or miss attitude of the bartenders. Not to sound like an old man but I can just as easily make jack and cokes at home for a fraction of the price. There's a lot of bars downtown LB, hell there's a lot of bars in walking distance on 4th street. Also the restroom situation is weird. Cash only is also an annoying thing. I find this place to be way better than the Red Room. Why the Red Room gets more crowded than the V Room is a mystery to me. It's got a cool jukebox with a variety of genres, the drinks are cheap and girl bartenders with tattoos just rock. I like the set up of the bar area as the tables are just a couple steps to the bar so you don't have to walk so far for that next drink.
