Decided to stop by here after my intense workout at Soul Cycle. Parking is located in the back of the restaurant as well as street parking. Order at the counter and they will bring your food to you. Eating at Urbane just feels healthy. My daughter wanted a salad, so we stopped by after her wrestling class. It's in one of my favorite plaza in Pasadena, because there is free 90 minute parking, and a lot of yummy options. Even after saying she wanted salad, she chose a turkey sandwich with fruit as her side. My son chose the kid's grilled cheese. As an adult, I don't recommend the grilled cheese. It was boring, and not balanced. The ratio of bread to cheese was way off. It's nothing you can't make for a dollar at the super market. However, my 5 year old ate it happily. My daughter's turkey was actually decently sized, and could feed an adult. It was a much more reasonable option. I got the ahi tuna bowl, and in hindsight I wonder if I should have gotten the salad. The bowl was fine, but being a California native, I like avocado. It was large, and filling, and I ended up giving the rice and bread to my kids. My husband got the pastrami. It wasn't special. There wasn't much meat, and I would have liked some more pickles, or peppers or something to add a kick, and vary the texture. Overall, we enjoyed our meal. A couple coworkers of mine and myself were on our lunch break last week. We originally had planned to eat at the new Settebello restaurant on Lake Ave in Pasadena, but they weren't open yet as they had originally planned... bummer! But good for Urbane Cafe as it was our restaurant of choice for our lunch. So glad we came here to eat. Let me tell you why... First time here for me so I wasn't sure what to get. My coworkers knew exactly what they wanted since they have been here before. Lucky me, they currently have a seasonal item called Ahi Poke Sandwich. When I saw that thick slab of ahi tuna, I knew it was for me LOL and that's what I got. It also comes with a bed of fresh greens. The same applies to all their sandwiches. If you want to substitute the salad with something else like soup, then it will cost extra. Ahi Poke Sandwich was so delicious. I couldn't stop eating it. It had pickled daikon and carrots which gave it a nice crunch when taking my bites. Aioli, sushi, and wasabi sauces were a perfect combination that gave it a sweet and spicy flare of flavors... so yummy! And the focaccia bread was delectable... unique in name and in every way soft on the inside and nice & toasty on the outside... and it's big and round just the way I like it LOL. The salad was a nice complement to the sandwich.. love the mixed greens, feta cheese, mandarin oranges with light balsamic vinaigrette dressing... such a healthy and tasty side! Staff was friendly and nice with a smile. There's a shelf for online orders pick up. Fountain drink station available for your convenience. Ambiance was quaint with their inside seating all lined up against the wall. They also do have limited outside seating. It's a great spot for a quick lunch and/or dinner. We found another healthy choice in the urban café in Pasadena. The atmosphere is chilled, laid back, and casual--plenty of areas to sit hi-boys, Booths, and outdoor seating on Lake Avenue. The customer service is friendly and welcoming. The waiter brought our orders quickly and checked if we needed anything several times. I eventually asked for more of the sauce on my Ahi Tuna bowl and later for another piece of bread, and the same waiter brought it with a good attitude and a smile. While chatting up our waiter we discovered he was the manager, Ben. He told us Urbane Cafe is a family-run business with 31 locations. Our plates had a good presentation, tasted good, and were fresh. We deducted a few points because we are used to a higher grade ahi tuna. However, the tuna we had was perfectly seared. I waited a total 30 minutes and had to ask for a refund because my food still wasn't coming out. Another family also requested a refund for waiting longer. My go to is their tomato bisque soup which has a lovely sweetness paired with the kid's or gourmet grilled cheese & a Mexican Coke. Tonight I did the kids grilled cheese which also came with chips. Cranberry Brie Sandwich - roasted turkey, French brie, housemade cranberry chutney, arugula, & herb aioli. Upgrade charge with a veggie poblano black bean soup.
