Their menu is fairly simple since their focus is mainly on sandwiches, salads, and some soups. Urbane Cafe has a large selection of chicken sandwiches, but they also carry some turkey, seafood and beef as well. I tried a few of their chicken sandwiches and found all of them to be quite tasty. Some of my faves are the Pesto and Sun-dried tomato, and SoCal. If you miss thanksgiving I recommend the Cranberry Brie. Don't sleep on their steak options either, I prefer the Chimmichuri Steak over the BBQ! Just cause I don't usually like BBQ in my sandwiches. Urbane Cafe was one of the pioneers in the farm to table restaurant concept. Not to be confused with Urth Cafe, this healthy eat sandwich and salad restaurant has a unique menus catering to farm to table freshness. It doesn't serve coffee but fountain drinks. In 2003, Tim Holt opened its first sandwich shop in Ventura and then expanded to multi-locations. It's menu is very similar to Mendocino Farm that's few steps away on Lake. It makes its bread on site fresh. So all the sandwiches are made using the freshly out of oven bread. Cranberry Brie turkey sandwich seemed to the winner here. My wife and a couple of friends ordered that today when we had lunch there after church. The combination of cranberry and Brie seemed to please many People's eating palates. It's the most popular items on the menu. I wanted to compared their Banh Mi to Mendocino Farm's. So I got a chicken Banh Mi. I felt that the Banh Mi at Mendocino was tastier with more depth in flavor. My other friend got the Mediterranean salad bowl with chicken. It looked healthy and yummy. I've tried only the salads here, but had really good experiences - Healthy, tasty, and decently portioned. The Ahi is very refreshing with the Japanese chili dressing and largely diced tuna cubes (more so than your typical poke joint). Since it's such a large piece of fish, I definitely appreciate the freshness of the tuna! Cobb salad, on the other hand, is pretty standard, so nothing much to write. Complimentary focaccia bread is definitely another major highlight - super soft and pillowy. Update 10/15: I tried the special pastrami sand. Not good at all. I'd definitely not have it again. The slaw was on the sweet side, with cilantro in it. I like cilantro slaw, but not paired with pastrami. Good for a banh mi, but not for this. If the pickles had been dill, that would have helped. But they were sweet too. So this pastrami sand was sweet on sweet from the slaw and pickles. And they also served it with a sweet mustard sauce!! Not at all good. Pastrami goes best with tart, vinegary complements not all sweet stuff. And the bread has a bit of sweetness too and a biscuity texture. Probably the worst pastrami sand I've ever had. Seriously. I guess the same people who think having only "focaccio" as a bread option also think a pastrami sand should be paired with sweet slaw, sweet mustard and sweet pickles. I don't und how this place continues to be in the 4-star range. I guess people like sweet. I've tried 4 items here and I only liked one, the chimichurri steak sand. The thoughtful management at Urbane sent me a freebie after I posted my last review. I used it today. Got the Chimichurri steak sandwich. It was very good! The focaccio worked pretty well with that sandwich. Mainly though, I liked the combination of ingredients with the "steak"--sliced roast beef. I'd still rather have it on an Italian/French sandwich roll. Their focaccio is too biscuit textured for me. Not like any focaccio I've ever had. OMG - first experience today and I can't wait to go back! I wanted a good salad, so I joined my coworkers here for some takeout lunch today. I was really impressed with their variety of salads. They weren't horribly priced, either. For this area of town, I expected $13-15/each, but they ranged from $9-12. I tried the seared ahi salad. The fish was seared to perfection. I just returned from my honeymoon in Cancun last week so the fresh fish really took me back to Cancun for a second lol. The asian dressing was SO good! What I think made it interesting was what appeared to be soaked sesame seeds inside the dressing. Normally, I don't like those much as a topping because they're weird to digest. However, after being soaked in the dressing, they expanded and were squishy and really added a nice touch to the dressing. I also really enjoyed the bread with my salad. My fav part of the day was the cookie. My coworker surprised me with one and OH.MY.GAWWD! We had the cranberry white chocolate chunk something or other and WOW. It was so gooey and warm and amazing! This is quickly becoming my favorite little take out spot in Pasadena. Couple reasons - the people who work here are consistently friendly. They offer me water when I'm waiting for my order and they bring my order out to me instead of just calling my name out like other places. They also thank me by my first name most of the time and It feels more personal. Best customer service in the area. Then the food - it's DELICIOUS. I have ordered twice now, including yesterday, through their app to pick up sandwiches and each time, despite my specific instructions on their app, they have failed to include utensils. How do they expect me to eat their salads on a picnic without forks or napkins? I have asked their employees each time, when I picked up the food, if utensils were included, and they said,"It should be there" and on both occasions, including yesterday, NO UTENSILS. Today, I also specifically asked for extra cranberry chutney on the side for my sandwich. Guess what? No cranberry chutney on the side. Both orders were picked up at the lake/Pasadena location.
