B S!!! They wanted me to agree, repeatedly, to a minimum charge of $60 if I used my debit card on a 5' x 8' trailer rental for $18.95 as how it was reserved. Why was this!!!??? He said he got this complaint all the time mentioning the word "deposit" and finally offered to run my debit as a credit and it went through at the 18.95 reserved price. If he got this complaint all the time, then why did he have me attempt to have me agree with the $60 debit minumum repeatedly mentioning the word "deposit"? This location is a total SCAM!!! Terrible service, and I don't recommend using this location. It's not even climate controlled, and when you need help the my won't answer their phone. I've had to call customer service, and they just kept transferring me to other call centers. I won't rent here again, and I'd advise you to pick a different company or a way better Uhaul location. Super unimpressed with how you're sent to a call center and not the actual store when you call these folks. I called the morning before my reservation to ask if I could pick the truck up early. They said no problem- just call if you're not coming. I called again to say that I was on the way and they said no problem. As it turns out, I was call center and they wouldn't give me the truck until I waited through closing. Super lame and a big waste of time. Hot tips: get connected to the store directly. read more

One of the most miserable U-haul locations in existence. I've had the misfortune of having my online reservation directed here three times. (You don't get to choose.) There is only ever one person working. The parking lot is poorly designed. The one person working is always rude, rushed and usually parking trucks in the only entrance/exit to this place. The trucks and trailers here are all banged up, damage and generally poorly cared for. Not to mention you have to get into this location from MLK - which has the benefit of having fewer turn-around opportunities. If you can, go somewhere else. If you have the misfortune of having the online reservation send you here, be prepared for it to take a couple of extra hours to actually get your reservation picked up. Oh, and they will almost always over-charge your credit card - they'll have an excuse, but they won't have time to explain it to you on the phone. read more

I'm starting to wonder if the reviews about John are fake. U-Haul overcharged me for gas. Yes it is only $10 and it is insignificant but just imagine showing up and it took almost an hour just to get a U-Haul truck that I already reserved. I was unable to leave a review on their website because they did something with my reservation. Also who gives someone a car with the check engine light on. I thought the least they could do was give me back my money for the overcharge but John who perhaps is overworked I'm not sure didn't follow through. I called and it still didn't happen. It is irritating because it was already expensive for the short amount of time and the person who was checking me out looked at me as if I wasn't making any sense. They also gave me a truck with the check engine light on and they said that it would go away and it never did. I would only rent from this place if I was super desperate. There's no use of calling because no one will answer your call. There's no use of requesting something because it will never happen. I think overall this particular U-Haul has their staff working overtime and they need more employees. They are unable to provide good customer service. I rented a truck from them - drove it to my storage unit and back to my house. 17 miles total. Once I got back to the store - they asked my if I would like my receipt emailed to me - this is where I made my mistake. They charged me for 99 miles! I've been trying to get this resolved for 2 weeks - the manager is useless - and every time I try calling the main office - I'm on hold for over 30 minutes. I've used this specific location a couple times over the past few years, and have had a great experience. Rented trucks twice, and a trailer once. The most recent rental of a trailer had an issue, but the manager John took care of getting a replacement lined up at a location down the freeway. Absolutely awful. Made a reservation and they didn't have the truck when I went to pick it up. The local staff were nice, but the central office person scolded me and raised her voice , telling me that I had a truck request, not a reservation. The email that I had said it was a reservation. And when I reserved it on the phone, no one gave me any disclaimer saying that it was a request rather than a reservation. Apparently the truck broke down. I had paid movers ready to work the next day. The local staff found me a smaller truck, and we used that. So, I had to pay the movers for extra hours to make multiple trips rather than one trip. When I told the Hired movers what U-Haul had done and asked them which truck company is good, they said "anyone but U-Haul." So, Penske, Ryder, Dolly, any of the others will get my business in the future. read more

This is a great source for boxes. And ulcers. Nothing else. They, like all U-Haul stores, have great prices on moving boxes, particularly in bulk. And they will buy back what you do not use (guard your receipt). They even have a thing with free boxes! They are nice enough people, but they are well-practiced in the dumb-look when the computer is not working, the truck is not ready, or truck is the wrong size. Also: extremely good at the insurance upsell. You can stand in there and watch half the people decline it, go out to inspect the truck, then return and change their minds and sign up for the full coverage. They have making you think you will be in an uninsured accident immediately down to a science. Notes on U-Haul in general: All the U-Haul trucks I have ever rented had problems (busted A/C to complete engine failure), which is not so nice for a half-continent move. Maybe OK for a local move. If you are already committed (perhaps they were the only ones with trucks), make sure it isn't on its last legs before you load it--definitely take it up to highway speeds for a mile or two. No A/C is hellish in the South; no radio for 2000 miles is pretty punishing, too. The trailers do not have room for a cute graphic portraying various American destinations, but they do have room for a joke: "45 mph maximum speed limit". read more

I moved out of this storage facility over a month ago. My account is paid off and I've verified that through the corporate U-Haul help line (because good luck trying to get ahold of anyone at this location). I get at least 5 emails a day and multiple phone calls demanding payment for a unit that I have nothing do with anymore. The GM John Stevens personally did my move out and HES the one who's been harassing me. I was getting prompt responses and as soon as I told him that this was his mistake I was ghosted and haven't heard from him since. This joke of a business needs to get its act together. John was so helpful and so nice in the beginning, he even gave us a deal and was just overall so great. But now? Jesus Christ, now all that's down the drain and I do not care. Stop calling me. I can't believe I am giving a U-Haul a rating of over 2 stars. For years, my many experiences at Uhaul have for the most part been 100% horrible. For reasons such as very long lines, equipment not ready, equipment in disreapair, botched reservations, rude management and central customer service uncaring and unresponsive. But this Uhaul had courteous and knowledgeable staff. Equipment pick up and return very quick. Location was clean and easy to get in & out of. No drama, what so ever. Thank goodness. But, the one thing about Uhaul trailer is they are VERY heavy. If you look ay the tare weight and capacity weight rating, you will see they have very little hauling capability. This means HORRIBLE fuel economy. Their equipment is heavy so it will last. Uhaul does not care about your fuel economy, customer tow vehicle wear & tear or braking safety. Super friendly staff, really helpful and was a pleasure to be around. A lot of these reviews scared me before going in to this MLK U-haul, but it's a complete night and day experience. I was able to get my U-haul an hour earlier than expected, figured I would just check-in early - but it ended working out great. My first move experience, and by far the MLK U-haul staff made it that much more enjoyable. Do yourself and all your friends a favor and give them a shot. Not sure what changed from previous encounters/reviews - but I am one happy reviewer and would reccomend this branch to anyone. Gosh, I had a very mixed experience here. They were fabulous compared to the first place I called (on Rainier and I'll be writing a review about them oh boy) but really if just judged on their own merits they were were just ok. The guy I dealt with was relatively nice. But parking was horrific. I ended up a block or so up on a not so nice street. I wasn't sure my dumpy little truck would still be there when I came back! And really, it is a dumpy little truck only a mother could love. Anyway, I also had a weird thing happen here as well. I knew exactly how many miles I had gone. (They charge a lot by the mile so I was very careful to drive only exactly where I needed to.) They charge was much more than I thought. And it took quite some wrangling to have them get the correct charges. My suspicions (using my ee ehs pee) were that the "nice" dude helping me actually was scamming the system. He did finally input the correct mileage. Would I go back? Well, probably not if I can help it. read more

Their "customer service" is not for the customer and I wouldn't call it service--very slow, incompetent, but it does provide for memorable experiences! When it is the only game in town, I guess you have to play here. I dread going to U-Haul. It is always a 30 minute wait in line to do the rental. It is always something. This morning's excuse was that the credit card processor was down so the manager was busy loading something into the computer rather than helping customers. Luckily, I come prepared and have a fresh mug of tea to drink while I wait. On the bright side, the equipment is always in good shape. I mostly only rent trailers (good price and no mileage fee) but never had any issues with the equipment. I debated with myself on what to rate them (2 or 3 stars) and finally gave them a 3 star review. Even though there is always a long wait, once you do get served, the people there are usually competent and courteous. They are just perpetually understaffed for weekend business. read more

Greg the manager and associate Don are truly amazing! They are nice and very much real, no b.s. I got in at a good time to install a hitch(need a minimum of two workers so one can watch the shop while the other does the hitch). I got a class 3 curt hitch installed on my subaru. Greg took less than an hour! Granted I didn't opt for the wiring kit. My subaru has a plug n play port so I'm able to do it myself. Again, they are real so they'll tell you straight up if they can do things or not. For me I drove away a happy camper! read more

I had a great experience with this U-Haul location. I recently moved to a house just a few blocks from this location, and called the day I needed a truck hoping there would be some available. The lady was very nice on the phone, set me up w/ a reservation. They were very nice and quite lenient on the gas tank level when I brought it back. I didn't have to fill it up at all! Either I had a ridiculously different experience from everyone else, or people are just super-cranky on moving day... But I thought they were great! read more

I think this is the best place ever. Obviously other people don't but I had a fantastic experience. I made a reservation for a U-Haul U-box completely forgetting that it was the last weekend of the month. I was late and didn't answer their call confirming and didn't call to confirm - all on me - but when I got there they quickly set up a box for me, showed how to fill it and gave me moving pads to use. Meantime the whole place is crazy because people are moving out and in that weekend so they were renting all different kinds of trucks, buying boxes, storing stuff, etc and the manager did not make me wait one second plus he was super friendly and funny and just plain awesome. I was super stressed and he kept telling me it was no big deal that I was late and didn't confirm my reservation. He was the best. I am very, very glad I chose this place to rent a storage box. read more

I don't know whether to describe the general manager, GW, who represented Uhual, as rude, obnoxious, narcissistic or ??? I will let you decide. I tried to schedule an installation of a tow hitch on my car online, and there wasn't a place on the webpage for me to put in the 25% discount code. I called this center, and a woman told me that she had me scheduled for the 2-hour appointment for the next morning and that I could then use the discount code in person at the center. She asked whether I would be waiting with the car. I replied in the affirmative. The next morning, when I turned up for the hitch installation, the GW was the only personnel at the center (until another employee turned up 30 mins later). GW asked whether I was waiting for the car. I replied in the affirmative. He told me I could go across to McDonald's even though it's under construction. I declined and he pointed the only chair by a non-functioning coffee-maker out for me to sit. GW drove my car into a "bay" that was a ways away from the main area, and I assumed that he started working on the hitch-installation. Right away, another customer came in, and I had to run through the rain to get GW to attend to her. Thirty mins later, an employee came in, and some customers sporadically turned up. Employee seemed to be a newbie. He didn't have access to certain computer functions or knew answers to customers' questions; some customers asked for GW by name. GW was called back to the main office several times. After 4 hours and 10 mins, GW appeared to announced that the hitch was installed. He said he was giving me $10 discount on a $450 bill. I gave him the 25% discount code, and he told me that he had worked there for 10 years and never seen that discount code. I told him that the scheduling woman the day before told me I could use it when at the center. And, if he cannot give me the 25% off, maybe he can give me something like 10% off. He repeatedly asked me: "Tell me, why do I WANT to give you discount?" I told him that the scheduling woman told me that would be a 2 hour installation, instead I waited for more than 4 hours. He said that he told me to go to McDonald's; he didn't ask me to wait: I could have taken cab or Uber home (I already given him my address, so he knew I live more than 20 miles away - I scheduled with this center because it was the nearest that had the particular hitch that the car needed in stock for the next morning) and he would call me when the car was ready. And he demanded my consideration, saying "Didn't you see me coming into the office several times [to attend to customers] working?" I said that for good customer service, he should finish attending to one customer before moving on to another. He challenged me, "Are you in customer service? Are you?" I suppose I should not be surprised that he is a general manager: he stomped on several people's feet and climbed on several people's back to get there, and carries on stomping and climbing. But I am surprised and dismayed that Uhaul chooses such people to represent the outfit. read more

Keep in mind this review is not for corporate UHAUL but for this specific location. We had serious issues with uhaul as we arrived into Seattle from moving across the country. There was a lack of communication and poor service. We were supposed to unload our truck at The Rainier Ave location, but they had no storage available and didn't want to help find one and didn't care. The manager said he couldn't help us and turned us away. We couldn't leave their own truck there. Anyway this review is not about them. The staff here at this location is top notch. It starts at the top with the General Manager Greg. It was him and the weekend employee (I think his name was John). They were extremely attentive and accommodating. They understood our frustration and assured us that they would help us sort it out. And they did. Greg was personable and empathized with our problem. They did everything within their power to make things right. And I respect these people. Their facility is nice and they have cameras everywhere. It's a good place to use storage. Some of the units however smell like curry... somebody previously stored something awful in our unit. Amazing staff Use this location for your moving needs. Very Rude Customer Service, when returning on a weekend evening. Service guy was rude and wanted to charge me $20 for not cleaning the inside of the small Ford van which had a black rubber mat. I carried lumber in it and swept it out. Of course, it was dusty. I never had to take the vehicle home to hose it. There wasn't appreciable amount to debris. He could've spent 1 minute to hose it out because that what I did. This place is not worth getting frustrated or angry over. My advice if anything like this happens when the manager is not around, return it and challenge a cleaning charge using the credit card company. They are usually very good at these things. read more

I had a fantastic experience here. My husband and I got there early (7:30 for our 8 am reservation) and they were already ready with out u box outside and quickly hooked the truck up to it. (the location went to in Texas took an hour with the same process). The truck was new (20,000 miles) and worked great. The uhaul customer service had given me misinformation the night before and told me I would only have it for 4 hours instead of the whole day as I was told originally, when I asked them about this at thevstore they said it wasnt an issue and I could use it for as long as I needed. I use this location to rent uhauls on a weekly basis for the company that I work for. My experience has definitely been mixed. From my experience they are typically understaffed with somewhat disgruntled workers. I get that everyone has a bad day, I do too! But many times the people working are not helpful. My last and most memorable experience at this location was on a Saturday afternoon. I had rented a uhaul van. Upon arrival the woman at the counter told me that the van was due back at 8p that night. It was 4pm. I said "no, i rented this van for 24 hours, so you mean 8pm tomorrow night?" She said "nope, 8p tonight." That definitely didn't work for as I needed it the next morning. I asked if she had any other vehicles (full parking lot) and nothing was available. I left fuming. I called the number listed on my UPS reservation and as it turns out customer service had shown that I did in fact reserve the uhaul van for 24 hours. I also went online to re reserve a van and there was still one available. At this point I had made a plan b, but this situation frustrated me so much as I had done the work on my end to properly reserve and had been denied the rental. I will not be going back to this location. read more

This review is for those that handle reservations for UHAUL. There is no way to fully convey how utterly disorganized and ridiculous the service was for my last moving experience. My boyfriend and I booked a UHaul online for a one way trip from Seattle to Portland about a week and a half in advance. We requested a location in Seattle that was pretty close to our place. We got an email confirmation and thought everything was good to go. The day before we were supposed to pick up the UHaul, I get a text message saying that we were to pick up our UHaul in Kirkland at noon and to call to confirm. I call the number to confirm and to inquire why we had to go to Kirkland instead of the many Seattle locations. We understood that our request was a preference, but we didn't expect to have to leave town to pick up our UHaul. When I spoke to the rep (after being on hold for about 20 minutes), she said that all the locations close to us were booked and the closest place was Kirkland - even though we had booked over a week in advance. But wait - she doesn't have our reservation in Kirkland, it's on MLK in Seattle. I call the MLK center. Wow - was this person a huge biatch - crabby and so pretentious! I know you probably get shitty phone calls every day, but damn. Anyway, I am told that they are actually still working on my reservation and will call us that night to confirm. Meanwhile, UHaul calls my bf to say we had a UHaul in Lake City. When he calls Lake City they tell him they don't have a reservation for him because it's at MLK. When he calls MLK they tell him that they don't have anything nearby, but Poulsbo is open. Obviously this call center isn't local because it would make no sense for us to drive to Pouslbo, to Seattle to Portland. UHaul boasts of convenience and availability but we witnessed none of that! So much miscommunication, which i don't get at all - this is what they do - they should be experts at scheduling trucks. It's not like we were trying to book a Uhaul for the very next day - we had booked over a week in advance, and were given a confirmation number. They had clearly overbooked UHauls for the weekend and were reshuffling everyone around. FINALLY! They tell us they can get us one in Kirkland. We agree because it's better than Poulsbo and we are so tired of talking to all these people and calling up all the different locations we are being referred to, being put on hold for eons, and then being told that nothing has actually been done. Another text message with the exact same message. After a few hours, we are back where we started. We call to confirm again. I am immediately asked to be on hold. Yes, sure, what choice do I have? I am literally on hold for about 28 minutes. I hang up and call again. It's close to closing time and I want to make sure everything is ready to go for our move the next day. I am asked again to be put on hold - but hells no - I ask to confirm right away. It takes her about 5 minutes. When we get to Portland, I call the 800 number to find out where we can drop off our UHaul and the operator gives me an address and we head over. When we get to the location - some random warehouse under some bridge with no other UHauls in sight - we try not to be deterred. When we tell the Front Desk that we're here to drop off a UHaul, we're told that they actually are not a drop off center. They rent out one UHaul for in-town business and don't do anything else - but, she has print-out of Google map directions to the closest UHaul drop off center. She has a freaking print out. Apparently it happens all the time. I told her she should change their information with UHaul. She kind of laughs and nods. I don't think any of that was necessary at all if they were more organized. I would understand more if we were last minute customers hoping to book a truck the day before a move, but we had booked over a week in advance and way too many phone calls and miscommunication occurred. We anticipated something quick and easy, but online reservations were not planned well and Customer service was terrible. I hate UHaul. read more
