I'm kind of torn about what to give this place. I needed a truck on a Saturday morning to swap some furniture from my storage unit to my home. Uhaul, Budget, everyone was already booked up. Handy Andy gets bonus points for being able to accommodate me without an advance reservation. They also got us checked out quickly and charged the same rental fee as the other "big boys." The subtraction point is because the truck was an absolute junker. There was a hole in the driver's seat so big I could put my whole arm through it all the way to the floor. The truck cab was filthy. The cargo area floor was ripping up and there was no ramp. The truck was making a horrible noise - as if a belt was about to go. It felt like the suspension and shocks were totally shot. We had to be extra careful about using enough furniture padding and tie-downs. The place itself is an absolute dump. A literal junkyard. We left there wondering about the company's worker's comp history. There are tools hanging hap-hazardly all over the walls, multiple story shelves and an enormous crazy-hot totally open space heater that would have caught my pants on fire if I had been unfortunate enough to back into it while in line. The guys were nice enough and I did get a last-minute truck. But yeesh - what a rundown dump. read more

rhe concrete deal works but there's a guy there who looks like Temu Melvin from office space , I guess he's just miserable person and basicsally gave me ready mix. it was nearly that dry. might have been better then I wouldn't have had to dig it out so hard. upon return he said your are past the two hours and put fees on there. multiple times I was told to return it by five. never once was I told 2 hours. Back in the old days I rented from Handy Andy because their prices were better than others. When I checked Yelp for my current project, I saw a number of complaints about service. I trust Yelpers, but I have to jump on here and say my experience was completely opposite those reviews. This is a family-owned business and there's a nice family vibe about the place. Every person I talked with--on the phone, at the counter, when they were handing over the dump truck I rented--was helpful, professional, happy to joke around a little. Yeah, the facility has been around awhile and it shows. Does that matter in a tool rental place? They had every tool I needed and at a good price. And the people were great to work with. read more

Rented a truck to move some plants. Service for rental and return was very quick. Everyone I dealt with was competent, professional, and nice. As a woman who does a lot of DIY this is often not the case when I go to a tool rental place. The trucks themselves are old and kinda beat up, and not super easy to maneuver, but really do the job. No hidden costs and very reasonable rental rates. They also seem to have a large fleet with lots of size options. I also appreciate that they let you reserve a truck if you call beforehand vs. truck rentals at Lowe's or Home Depot which is first come, first serve. Overall, highly recommend. read more

Initially when we drove up to the place, I thought... what a dump. It look like the business is located at an old and decrepit building. There are a lot of trucks and machinery parked on the outside. You kind of feel like you're at a tow truck lot or car crushing facility, at least that is what I imagine it to be. The people aren't exactly friendly either. They kind of slop through to the next customer as though you're at the dmv offices or walmart. No customer service whatsoever. When we got our truck, we noticed that they had added an extra mile onto our milage before we left the lot. We hadn't gone anywhere but it was already marked one more than what we had not traveled. My husband addressed this when we got back out of principle but the guy didn't correct the "mistake." He just brushed what my husband had said, aside and proceeded to charge us. Although there were many lowlights with coming here, there were some positives. They had far more trucks than Home Depot down the street. Home Depot always has a truck broken and on a Saturday, it gets really busy. You have to wait hours to get a truck/van. Here, they have plenty on site. Another bonus was that they charge you less than Home Depot or UHaul. Their mileage price is a lot lower, though their base rate is about the same. If you can overlook the poor customer service, then this place is for you to rent a truck/van or tools. read more

I love this place. Been coming here since I was a little kid, helping my dad out with projects around the house, moving stuff in the rental trucks and renting some of the heavy equipment. Now I've got a house of my own and soon my kid will be joining me on The projects around the house. It's fun to watch 'The Next Generation' start influencing the business. If this is the case, Handy Andy is the place for you. Call ahead to ensure they have what you need. If they don't, they'll refer you elsewhere. Over the past 5-6 years as DIYers, we have rented a chainsaw, a skid-steer, a pick-up truck, and a dump truck at least 8 times. Mostly it was just for the day but occasionally for the weekend. Last time I even had the skid-steer delivered and picked up because we had no trailer hitch. The fee was minimal, but the convenience was everything in this case. Sometimes I was able to book ahead and sometimes it was a spur-of-the-moment decision. Of course, it is certainly easier for everyone when I booked ahead, but so far, there hasn't been a time when the Handy Andy boys haven't been able to help me. Now I am back again for a cargo van for a whole week - it is so much cheaper than anywhere else. I simply can't tell you how wonderful it is to have a local business that provides these things at the prices they do. I am not surprised in the slightest that everything is being used constantly and I don't expect shiny, new vehicles. These are hard-working machines & vehicles. But they do work and are very reliable. I love this place and the service is perfectly fine for me. I learned quickly to expect brief exchanges during the busy times of day (opening and closing) when the lines are out the door and wrapping around the building, but I'm treated respectfully and so is my husband. read more

The trucks are pretty bad. Dirty, grinding, taped-up no padding left in the cushion, terrible suspension...but, they are EASY to rent from. So easy! I called early in the day to reserve a cargo van and the guy was like: Just come in. I said: Really? Like you won't run out? He goes: Let me check my list (checks it), yep we got all in, you should be alright when you show up. I was a bit skeptical but did as he said. Located quite conveniently, right in the center of our Point A to Point B, we found them on the left (if heading north) side of Aurora. I circled the block to look for parking (the neighborhood right behind has some unfriendly no parking signs), and we wound up pulling into their lot, which had a lot of activity. But a guy showed up and gave me directions on where to park. Once inside, we told them what we wanted, a cargo van...they asked us what we were moving. We told them a 7.5ft red phone booth (yes, this is true, ask me about it). They suggested increasing our rental to the box truck which was only $5 more (for $25/day, $0.49/mi) We decided more room was better than the opposite, and agreed. Then we signed up and put down a $150 deposit. They offered renting to us extra blankets for padding or a dolly, but we were okay. Drove to the apt to load up the bigger stuff, and realized that the back doesn't lock. It's just a couple hooks to keep the door closed, but nothing secured. So that kind of put a kink in our moving, and we had to keep someone out with the truck (even though the door was closed) at all times. We were in shady Northgate! :P Maybe have a lock rental and penalty $30 if the lock isn't returned? That would have helped shave some time off our moving. Anyway, so we used it to go to the house and then up north for the booth. It was probably VERY wise to upgrade our rental, because the booth fit just nice enough and there were hooks to tie rope and secure it in the back. Returning the truck was simple, just fill it up with gas, print a receipt that shows how many gallons you put in. Leave it on the dash and park it on the right side (if going north) of Aurora, across from the store. There is an AM/PM station right there for super bargainy convenience. Then leave the key in their drop box. We returned the truck to them about 5hrs later. The whole endeavor was about $60, not including gas (which I think was $20). And so, not bad at all..very easy to rent and return. The middle part where you use the truck is kind of crappy, but hey, whatever! read more

Couldn't get the gas tank full when I returned a truck. You know. You squeeze and squeeze but it's like trying to pour booze down the throat of college freshmen. They can only take so much. No, I kidding! But you get the point. They ended up taking the truck to their local gas hole and put in 3 more gallons. That costs about $87.03 nowadays. Anyway, I'm ready to launch into a rage about "It wasn't me, it was the gas nozzle!" which is a great argument, since it has the dual effect of proving that I'm incompetent, but also proves that I am no smarter than a gas nozzle. my go-to truck rental place for whenever I need to haul some stuff to the dump or whatever. The trucks and vans sure aren't pretty but who cares as long as they get the job done, right? I've rented both pick up trucks and full size cargo vans from these guys. The process is pretty simple and as long as their office isn't too busy you can get in and out of there within 15 minutes. It also helps that they're located near my house so I can just ride my bike there, pick up my truck, toss my bike in the back, and then take care of business. I haven't rented anything other than trucks and vans from them so I can't speak to the other equipment but when it comes to needing a cheap truck/van for the day Handy Andy can't be beat!!!! read more

I can't possibly give this place more than A-OK. Even though our one-day truck rental was cheap (all said and done with a hand truck/small truck and gas, we paid $50). But as soon as we pulled into the parking lot, we could see why it was so cheap. Here is what you need to know: - The place looked like someone's house from the Hoarders TV show. - The driveway has a one-way entrance (the second driveway if you are heading south on 99). - If you rent it after 4 pm on a Saturday, you get to keep it until Monday morning since they are closed on Sundays. But like I said, it worked out just fine. As miserable as moving can be, finding this cheap truck rental was a highlight for us. read more

I stumbled upon the Yelp reviews for Handy-Andy when I was using my gps and after reading many of them, I have to say that many of the reviewers here are a bunch of self-centered, incompetent wusses that may have difficulty walking and chewing gum at the same time to put it in "G" rated terms. You know: the type that would have difficulty locating where their car battery was, for instance. And more advanced tasks like picking their noses as they were walking could have ended badly for many of them. People commented about how the place looks - who cares. They commented about the personality of the staff- who cares. They commented about the appearance of the trucks - who cares. And reading some of the reviews, I almost got the feeling that some of them, secretly, were expecting a hug and a latte, as well. Well, this place, in a word, is abso-frickin-brilliantly-awesome. You come to Handy-Andy for one thing: to get the job done and at a reasonable price. Ok that's 2 things. You get the idea. I've had a bromance with these guys for over 13 years and must have literally rented over 1300 vehicles and an amazing assortment of different types of equipment. And you know what? Because of Handy Andy, I've become quite wealthy. They have been probably the No. 1 reason for my success. Because of their fair pricing and bewildering assortment of tools and trucks, I've had the ability to offer my customers an amazing number of different services at far cheaper rates than my competitors. It's really simple: treat them and their equipment with respect and courtesy as if it was your own and you will be rewarded more than a hundred fold. Not only have I rented from them, but they have been an amazing resource of knowledge on how to get different jobs done. They seriously know their stuff. And if you're nice to them, they will help you figure out how to get your job done, too. If I could give no stars I would! Started by getting chewed out for standing across some yellow line at the door followed by the rudest customer service I have ever experienced. The guy behind the counter was on the phone with someone and told them he didn't have time for them to make up their mind on what size trailer they needed and to call back when they made up their mind. They explained everything fully, the truck was in great shape, the process was simple, and the employees were courteous. Great work. Handy Andy... you were oh...so..close. I needed to rent a truck at a moments notice to move a bed. The rates were reasonable and the truck did what I needed it to do. So far, so good. I went to return the truck and was told the speedometer was on the fritz and that they would figure out my mileage in ten min. Well.. after driving all day, I decided to call back later to find out how much I owed. They charged me an extra $10.00, since they claimed I didn't top off the gas tank. THAT IS UTTER BS. I went to the 76 gas station one block away and showed a receipt as proof and they ok'd it. They told me that it must have been an "air pocket" and that it wasn't full. I was too tired over the move to quibble over $10. But I can warn people about your poor practices. read more

They have the best prices for rental equipment and trucks, and you get what you pay for. I'm a landscape contractor, and I'll go here in a pinch, but will steer clear if I can. Their trucks are rough, and so is their equipment. Never had an actual problem with any of their trucks, but their equipment is another story. Both times I've rented machinery here for a landscape project, the equipment was damaged or improperly maintained, and failed to perform as it should have. It cost me a bunch of time and money to wait for their rude-asses to get me a replacement. They really take pride in being snarky and bitchy - it's part of the company culture. If you're okay with the risk of using bad equipment, then it's worth it to save like the $5 a day to rent here. If you want to be safe & sound, go to Aurora Rents. read more

Stopped by for a truck on a rainy morning. First off, your fading signage isn't 100% clear where you want us to stand. I stood outside the door patiently waiting, only to get barked at because I was 1 YARD too close. These guys obviously were NFL referees in their past work history. Easy enough to get the rental. Truck was pretty beat up, but I returned it cleaner than when I picked it up. The interior of the store is by far the most unorganized and cluttered business in Seattle. Needed a flat bed to pick up a 3400 lb crate at the airport. i did a walk around video and a snap of the odometer, as I always to when I rent a car, truck or anything. Got to the airport and someone came up to me and noticed one of the rear outside tires was flat and separating from the rim. I was impressed that the Handy Andy service guy showed up in about 40 minutes and replaced the tire at the airport freight dock. when I reviewed my video though, I saw that the tire was flat before I left the yard at Handy Andy. I didn't notice it, but one would think the staff would check that sort of thing. The truck worked fine for what I needed it for on short notice. Then I returned it with a full tank from the station right across the road. Customer service comments are true. I told the guy checking in the truck (same guy that gave me the keys and showed me the fuel filler when I got the truck) that I put 52 miles on it and filled the tank. Give it to the guy inside. I waited at the door for 5 minutes or so. Ran into an old friend and was talking/distracted when they ran up my bill. I got to my personal truck and reviewed the billing. Wow. I had noticed they left the starting miles off my original ticket. Well they tried to charge me for an extra 6 miles. I went back to the office and waited another several minutes, then went in and showed them the snap of the odometer. Got passed off to a manager. (nobody smiles in that place) He went in and spent about 5 minutes making adjustments and handed me the receipt. "there, it's corrected." No appology for the error or for sending me out on the road with a flat tire. I also told him that the truck is not legal with the marker lights missing from the corners of the bed. Someone could get a ticket for those since the ICC regulations require the side marker when the tail lights can't be seen from the rear. I know. I build flat beds.for trucks. They did not care. I was polite and said thank you anyway. Next... I will still rent equipment there when it is convenient, not looking forward to it. read more

This place is both great and scary as hell. Every time I have needed a moving truck, usually around the end of the month where every other procrastinator in town is making plans to move, Handy Andy has always had one. For that they are great. And cheap! You show up and minutes later you have a truck. Just don't have any special request and stick to the rules and you'll be happy. Now for the scary as hell part: I don't think any of their moving vans have brakes. I've rented from there three times and every time as I am lumbering down Aurora in their giant yellow moving van it feels as if the thing is going to leave a trail of parts along my route. When I applied the brakes on my most recent rental the thing shuddered and shook and all my thousands of pounds of stuff wasn't even in the back yet. So my advice is if you wait till the last minute to plan a move - as I always do - wear your seat belt and maybe even a helmet when driving their trucks. read more

I felt compelled to post a review after I read some of the bad ones on line. I love this place. I have only ever rented pick up trucks so I can't speak to anything else. I think the customer service is great, much much better than U-Haul. No, they don't have a bunch of ferns in the shop and they don't offer you a latte while you wait but I don't need that kind of pretentiousness. I just want to rent a pick up to make dump runs or haul something that won't fit in my car. I've been screwed by U-Haul a couple of times when I didn't take the extra insurance but not by Handy Andy. They know their trucks are dinged and dirty and the normal wear and tear I give them isn't going to change that. Needing to top off the tank and bring a receipt is a bit of a hassle but not too bad and the AMPM across the street has cheap gas. As far as I can tell, it's the least expensive truck rental in town. The trucks run as well as any beater truck I've owned and they've never made fun of my Tesla. read more

FOR TRUCK RENTERS. This company does not offer you liability insurance on their truck rentals like Penske, hertz, etc. They leave it up to your personal policy to cover your rental. However, some personal policies do not cover truck rentals especially if you are using the truck for business purposes. Check with your insurance agent before u rent a Handy Andy truck. read more

Pay extra for better service somewhere else. First, they are apparently perpetually grumpy. When I picked up the rental they said to drop it off between two times I thought I heard 6 to 6 but I didn't remember. I looked down on the paper in my hand, pew a little note saying to return trucks between 6am and 630. OK cool. The next day at 6 I return the truck to the east side of the street like I was told, a half hour earlier than the slip says, but no one was there. After a few frustrated minutes trying to figure out exactly what to do and cross aroura a few times, we parked the truck, left the fuel receipt on the dash and left a voicemail explaining the situation. The next morning I returned with the truck keys to a whole lot of attitude. Apparently there was a key drop where I am supposed to drop my keys and trust that the truck will be fine and that I will be charged the appropriate amount on my card. I'm sorry, but at Uhaul, they examine the truck and you need to talk to a person in order for the truck to be considered returned. Apparently that is not so with Handy Andy. Then the dude with the bad attitude behind the counter had the audacity to tell me that I was lucky that the truck wasn't ticketed and towed at midnight. UM excuse me? No one was there when I dropped the truck off WITHIN the time it said on the paper they gave me when I drove off the day before. So if something, anything happened to that truck between my being on time for a drop off and them opening, its my fault? I think not. This whole experience was a nightmare. I will use them again if I must, but the attitude, sloppy unprofessional business and exceptionally misleading and contradictory instructions made this a frustrating experience. Next time, I will happily pay more somewhere else. read more

Inferior maintenance. Our neighbor recently rented a Handy Andy truck and lost all braking going down NE 68th in viewridge. He swerved into a neighbor's fence and rolled the truck sideways. Thank God no one got killed. read more

I have rented from Handy a lot. The prices are much better than the other choices and they have an extensive amount of tools and vehicles that are hard to rent elsewhere. But I sometimes see customers getting frustrated here. Here are some tips to get what you want when you go: 1. Do your research. Know what you want before you go and don't waste their time. Asking questions on the phone seems to go better. 2. Be friendly. If you act nicely, you will be treated ok. If you yell at them, they will ignore you and just charge you to get you out the door. 3. Keep your end of the bargain, and make sure they keep their end too. If they are charging you too much, ask a question, and try to strike a compromise. I have resolved conflict with them and been treated fairly just by being positive and polite. 4. Make sure you go through everything with them and get a signed receipt. Keep it to check. 5. Follow the rules. If you forgot them or didn't know them, apologize. 6. Don't expect the equipment to be A plus. It will work but it's going to be kinda rough around the edges. The air conditioning may not work but the truck likely will get you there. If you want it perfect, go to Home Depot, but it will cost half again as much. 7. Return stuff on time. They have a reservation system, and if you don't follow the rules, they are going to charge you. 8. Ignore the rudeness. They deal with a lot of rude people, and as a result, they likely are a bit rough around the edges. Just respond positively, they will get it eventually that you are trying to work with them. Disgusted with this company. We rented a truck from them for 2 days and an hour after we got it, the lift stopped working. We returned it and after wasted 2 hours waiting around for another one to be available, I had to convince them not to charge me for that day. The second truck we got didnt have working A/C (was 85 degrees this day), windows didn't roll down, headlights out, and was just a POS over all. Whatever, it still drive from A to B. After we dropped it off, there was 6 misc charges on there we weren't told before hand and it still ended up costing almost 3x what we were originally told. Weeks later, I'm still trying to get my refund for the day we were told was free and the manager is a total prick. Didn't give his name until I asked him for it and keeps saying he will call me back with no reply. Thanks for making this a smooth process..NOT. Beware...you heard it here first. read more

It's true their place looks a bit like a junk yard and they are, customer-service wise, what you might call brusque, but I've been dealing with these guys for over 15 years and have rented all kinds of stuff and they keep their equipment in good repair and are square shooters: they don't have a low rental fee and then jack you for expendables, like sandpaper, for instance. EVERYthing is a reasonable cost. I've never been dissappointed. They also allow some slack. Last time I returned something a little late -- something other rental places will ding you for with glee -- and they didn't bat an eye. When I thanked the guy he just shrugged, said I was only 20 min. late. They are experienced, knowledgeable and know the business. Plus they answer their phone! read more

I've rented from Handy Andy for over 10 years and they've always been messy but the equipment worked... OK. Their equipment has since become worn out and does not appear to be properly maintained. Rented a carpet cleaner, got home, and the machine was missing a drive belt and only one of the three spray jets was functional. They didn't seem to care that they gave me a crap rental nor did they attempt to make it right. Will NEVER rent from them again. read more

Horrible customer service! The half bold guy is extremely rude and useless. The prices are good, thus the price. The truck they gave me was horrible, it stalled on me 3 times and barely accelerated on the highway. I've spent over 1.2k on Handy Andy, so I just bought an F250 instead of renting on here every week. It's cheaper to maintain my truck then rent these crappy abused trucks. Overall two stars for the decent price, but everything else is one star. read more
