The main perks include: Communicative Good pricing with skilled work Easy to schedule, drop-off, and pick-up I have a 1988 Honda push mower. It's from the days when Honda's residential mowers had commercial quality and has been a stalwart for my family for 38 years. I couldn't find parts to fix it myself and brought it to the Mower Shop. They repaired the cable and gave me a full tune and the cost was far less than buying a new, lesser quality mower. The repairs took 1 week, which I consider fast for this time of year when everyone is getting there machines ready for summer. Highly recommend. read more

I have owned a Sears riding mower that has been great for about 15 years but getting service is not easy. The guy who helped me with a problem about a year ago of course has retired (his company was Heaven Sent). He referred me to this company, which had what I considered to be mostly bad reviews, bot I trusted this guy. Turns out the reviews fell on the previous owner. The current owner (Audra) and her staff are wonderful. Yes you have to schedule a pickup that is a week or so out but YOU don't have to bring it in and pick it up, and they do great work at a very reasonable price. I had a second issue after I got a major tune up, new blades, etc. and they had to come back and get it again but they were VERY reasonable on the additional work. I expect I will use The Mower Shop on anything they will work on from here on out. Great People! read more

I have a DR Brush mower that was having difficulties I could not fix myself. The website for scheduling drop worked great. They did a very comprehensive repair and securing cables and replacing damaged parts. The mower works better than when it was new. I took our seized McLane Edger (Kawasaki FA130) to The Mower Shop to see how we could save it. They quickly responded to my online request for assistance, and because of the season, we were able to get a next-day appointment. Lucky for me they were able to free the piston, get it started and do a check of the engine. Pricing was good, customer service excellent and invoicing process was exceptional. I've been using these fine folks for years, and one thing still rings true, they do a bang up job, and give you an honest estimate on your mower, even to say if it's not worth fix'n. Just a few months ago I took a gas powered poll hedge trimmer here, as I dropped it off the repair guy, whom I never can remember his name, we'll just call him Gassy-Gary, told me that they were not an authorized Echo brand repair shop, I knew this and I told him the "authorized" shop down the hill won't even look at my gear! Gassy-Gary, with his oil/grease stained hands and petrol-gas cologne odor coming from his coveralls is a testament to his long hours put worth in making things right. Sometimes the counter service can be gruff and seem in a disarray, but keep your cool and you'll be glad you did. Prices are decent, quality work is assured, lack of parking in that general area is a pain, hence the reduction in stars. read more

Worst service, liars, employee made threats to beat me up for complaining about his second defective repair attempt. Owner Audra Holt fails to provide even the most basic customer service. I am now taking the business to Small Claims Court. "Buyer Beware" at the Mower Shop in Seattle. If you have a machine that is under factory warranty, don't take it there! Verify that they are actually a certified warranty shop first. My mower was there for SIX MONTHS, and they gave it back again as repaired but that is not the case. It isn't even assembled. They want me to bring it back for a 3rd attempt. This place is out of control. read more

41 bucks fixed up my lawnmower! Sharpened blades, a replacement piece to keep the mower at the correct height. Duct tape replaced by zip ties. They did a great job and they said it would be ready in 7-10 business days but was ready sooner! The people that work here are real characters so take some time to chat with them or at least eavesdrop on them while they work. I love this place. read more

I dropped off my edge trimmer the other day for service. They sent me text while standing at the counter with my pickup ticket info and told me it would be about week. About 5 days later received text that it was done. At pick up they had cleaned up my nasty piece of equipment, tuned it up and the lady at the desk fired it up right there to make sure everything was working as it should. I am appalled at the quality of customer service! We dropped our mower off May 2 and were told 3 weeks. May 23rd I called and got told it would take one more week. It's now June 3rd and got told today that it was going to take at least this week before they'd even get to my mower. When I sent my husband to go pick it up, they refused to give it to us because "everything was stacked up". It is not my problem that you've had technicians quit - your job is to provide me with service. And if you can't deliver on what you promised, at the minimum you should be contacting your customers to update them on the situation. Let me be perfectly clear: do not work on our mower - do not touch our mower other than to get it back to us. We will not be supporting this business and will make sure our neighbors and friends all know the appalling customer service we've experienced. I've been going to Aurora Lawnmower for years, in spite of the terrible parking. There is a heavyset fellow who has always been very kind and professional. When I was buying mowers (yes, plural - I tried a used and an electric before I went for new gas-powered), he was great at advising me on what would best suit my needs. I got a mower I really like, and because of this nice fellow, a very good impression of the business. However, I went in yesterday because my mower wouldn't start. The guy with the unfortunate facial hair (an Amish beard gone very wrong), was so incredibly rude to me, my recommendation is hanging in the balance. He treated me like a complete imbecile and gave me that "you're a woman and don't know what you are talking about" tone that I haven' t heard since the 1980s. When I asked him to listen to me while I explained the problem, he argued with me. He did everything but call me "little lady" and tell me to go back to the kitchen where I belonged. I brought the darn mower in because I'm the one who uses it! I'm still giving it three stars because I have had more encounters with the nice guy and the otherwise fine staff who are fair and courteous, but I will NEVER deal with this man again. Reading past reviews about bad customer service had me worried, but perhaps the new ownership has turned things around. We found an old late-1980s model Toro lawn vacuum on the street with a "free" sign on it. We'd always wanted one, so we grabbed it with low expectations (it looked like it had been long forgotten, and many years since it had been run). I called Aurora Lawnmower who said we were welcome to just bring it by and they'd take a look at it -- for free. We did and they checked it out -- it wasn't running so they took the motor apart on the spot and gave us an estimate to get it working again for $165. These things run $800-1,200+ new, so we said "Heck yeah!" We picked it up today and it works great. They gave us a quick tutorial on how to start it and maintain it. We tried it at home and all is well. They know their stuff and all three guys we dealt with had a good attitude. read more

Went to buy lapping compound. They didn't stock it as a retail product. (No surprise, not many people sharpen their own mowers.) BUT the guy there still wanted to help solve my problem. I wanted to give the new owner a chance, but they failed. I am writing this review only to save people precocious time driving and dropping off equipment that does not get repaired. PROS: Timely equipment assessment, and they did not charge me for the assessment. CONS: Their assessment was wrong. Aurora Lawnmower 10-17-2011 Seattle, WA Howdy, Thanks for getting my Stihl MS 460 chainsaw running so nicely today. This baby has helped me with thousands of trees in the past 5 years, and I am looking forward to lots more, now that the top end has been rebuilt. As I explained when I dropped it off on September 1st, I wanted to keep the old parts because of sentimental attachment. Too bad they were not available at the end of the job. Please keep an eye out for the old piston, as it would make a great paperweight. The cylinder & piston kit I supplied also included a set of gaskets for a complete rebuild. The unused crankcase gasket and seals can be used if the lower end ever needs to be rebuilt. I would appreciate getting those back as well. I thought it a bit odd when the latest bill included the cost of a 2nd spark plug. The diagnosis that revealed the need for a rebuild included replacing the old plug to isolate the problem, and cost a total of $44.00, included installing a new plug. It would be great to have this spare plug returned, as it only has about 5 minutes running time on it. 3 things could help with this type of situation in the future, and could speed up jobs to allow completion in less than 5 weeks: 1). Keep records of previous work done for the same customer on the same piece of equipment. 2). Store parts in a secure location. 3). Have the same employee serve as a single point of contact with the customer for continuity. Thanks for listening. I've taken my mower for repair to this lawnmower shop for 20 years. They've always done adequate work. This spring I took my mower in for a check up...was told 3 weeks out. Was surprised, but ok. End of 3 weeks, was told 4 weeks. End of 4 weeks, was told 5. End of 5 weeks when told it had still not been worked on, I took it away. I'm thinking it's under new management, they lost some of their old time mechanics and they don't know what they are doing. Be forewarned before subjecting your mower to this outfit! read more

Gordon is rude and unprofessional. After watching him be rude to an elderly Hispanic man, it was my turn. He refused to look for a gas tank that was upstairs that my father had put a hold on, and instead helped the customer after me. Then after the tank was brought downstairs by another gentlemen, a third gentlman said the price is actually more than the earlier agreed upon price. I walked out at that point. My father returned that afternoon. The $35 agreed upon price tag had changed to $90. We found the gas tank online for $25. read more

worst place on earth. rude, criminal, and they obviously don't care about customers. i brought in a weed-eater for warranty repair, and called a couple weeks later to see if it was fixed. they told me they lost the paperwork, and asked me to call back another time. i did, and was told they found the paperwork, and would proceed with the repair. after a couple more weeks with no word, i called again, only to be told that they wouldn't send my weed-eater to the manufacturer for repair because it wasn't worth the time and effort, since they weren't performing the repairs themselves. the repair guy, "dave" i think his name was, then threatened to throw my weed-eater out if i didn't come pick it up right away. i left it with them. believe me, you're better off buying a new mower than trying to deal with this joke of shop. read more

Unorganized, customer service is the lowest priority. They deserve to go out of business. I dropped off a barely-working Honda EU2000 generator about a year ago to see if they could fix it up. It was a low-priority for me, so I kind of forgot about it for a month. When I finally called to check on it, they said they didn't have a record of my name or the generator, I needed the "claim ticket". Finally called back with the claim ticket number later, and they told me it would be over $1000 to fix. I said that I could buy another used one for close to that price, so it wasn't worth it, I'd pick it up and sell it on Craigslist. I kind of forgot about it for 5 months. Then when I showed up at the shop, they couldn't find it with my claim ticket. The guy told me to come back later. I said that I actually wanted them to try to look for it. Guy made a 1/2-ass attempt to look around, said that they don't have it anymore. "Uhhh... OK. So what's the deal now?" "Well, you should have picked it up. You had, let's see... October, November, January, February to call us." "Well you had... let's see... October, November, January, February to call me before you trashed it." "Well, I can look around more. Why don't you call me in a few days." You can see from the absolute complete disorganization that they don't have a clue how to organize a service business. Even if they're fairly competent at repairs (who knows?) they are clueless when it comes to customer service. I heard they're going out of business. Good riddance. read more

Listen, if you need to get pandered to or have your ego massaged or be fawned over like you're the only person in the world, then this place might not be for you. However, if you want to get your mower fixed by a group of mechanics that could probably fix just about any damn thing you put in front of them, then this is indeed the place to go. These guys are mechanics. They aren't customer service experts and they could really care less if you like them or not. So before you go, put on your big-boy pants and leave your venti 1 pump caramel, 1 pump white mocha, 2 scoops vanilla bean powder, extra ice with 2 shots poured over the top (apagotto style) with caramel drizzle under and on top of the whipped cream, double cupped frappuchino at home, or at least in the car. I've been taking my mower here for years and they've always done us right. We make the trek from West Seattle to use these guys. I highly recommend them. read more

I like these guys. It's the real deal. I read the other reviews and really - wipe your tears. if you want honest advice then you'll get it, even if you don't like the advice and more so how it is delivered to you. Sorry, they are gonna smell like gasoline and oil. It's what they do. I have bought much equipment from them and servicing alike and I know what to expect when I walk in. Not the usual fake customer service in anystore USA. Go there - if only to learn what it's like to walk on dirty floors vs. red carpet that we are all used to elsewhere. It's hilarious. There just aren't enough of these honest stores anymore. Oh - and they don't have a 1800 number that puts you through to a help desk on the other side of the world either. Hmm. I decided to check reviews before taking in my gas weed trimmer for a tune up. I had a terrible time with Aurora Lawnmower last summer (2012), and was hoping they had improved. Many of the reviews are similar to my experience, so I thought it was time to add my review. I had an electric mower with a bad battery. I had a combination of misplaced chargers, missed deadlines, rudeness and so many return trips that my car knew its own way to the shop. I will say that one worker there, Pete, was very nice and seemed to be on my side. But - the end result is that I bought a brand new battery, and still have a lawn mower that doesn't work. I'm lucky that my yard is small enough that I can mow it with a push mower. PS I don't mind the grease and parts. I even enjoyed looking at power gadgets while I waited. I just wanted the lawn mower repair they advertise. read more

NEW OWNERSHIP!!! Like so many others I had long sworn never to come back after crummy/gruff service and unkept promises. But grandpa needed a new carburetor kit for an old mower. Not only did they answer the phone but knew immediately which kit I needed based on a sketchy description. THEN Chuck pulled a seal that needed a special tool and blasted the carburetor clean. John, Gordy, and Chuck went way above and need a reset on the reviews; it's almost unfortunate they kept the old name. read more

Everyone there is very friendly and even though the line is often long it moves pretty fast. They found the parts I needed for my mower and the one time they even suggested & sold me a used part that saved me quite a bit of money. They have the cheapest price on sharpening the old style rotary mowers out of the three places I checked. I am very happy with my mower since I have it back. Apparently it needed to be adjusted too, it cuts like a dream now and I am less likely to use the gas powered mower. My only complaint is when I received the mower back it was grimy and greasy. I am really glad they oiled it but the entire handle was slimy with oil and the wheels looked like they rolled in through a puddle of grease and motor oil. It took my 10 minutes to figure out how to transport home without getting it all over my clean trunk and in the meantime ruined a pair of slacks. A warning and an offer of a few paper towels may have been appropriate. read more

Their shop is typical of most of the lawnmower shops in the area with the exception that they do answer the phone. My last two repairs took two weeks longer than promised, I never received a call, and had to call repeatedly to inquire about the equipment. Twice they told me THEY COULD NOT FIND MY BLOWER OR THE PAPERWORK I watched them fill out when dropping off. I think they just attach it to the unit and then throw it in a pile. Thing is- my blower is spray painted green. One of a kind. Even after telling them this they took two days to "find" it. That implies either total lack of effort or total lack of ability to run a shop. Nice people I guess but I would bet money they have no record of me. Bummer man, my business has a lot of equipment. Good thing they don't need the work. Result- I didn't notice much difference when it was returned. No explanation of the work done, problem 1/2 fixed, runs rough. $170. I think if they cleaned house and installed a new system they could be a good shop but not like it is now. They need a shop manager or something. Take your stuff here if you don't need it any time soon. I see good reviews here but the dates seem to be mostly winter and off season. Maybe they are a bit more with it then. read more

Had sharpening of a reel mower done here a few times, it was fine aside from the poor customer service. But they lose two more stars because the website says they are open until 5:00 on Saturdays and I wasted a trip because they actually close at 4:00 on Saturdays. This is an old fashioned, unpretentious place that gets it done. I don't know how in such a small space...lawnmowers everywhere. You won't get cheated, over charged or "sold." They have parts cheaper than the companies online that make the parts! Again, it must be the low overhead and guys who just seem to know and love mowers. I've purchased from them for years and it's always no nonsense and good. As far as the neighbor who gripped about a box of paper on her lawn fro these guys, think about it. You can put all the paper tags and boxes you want out for free recycling. Why would they knowingly put it on somebody's lawn? It makes no sense. Probably some kids or somebody thought it would be a fun thing to do or a joke. read more

I'll start with the fact that I'm old-school and still get my hair cut at a real barbershop but I think some of these reviews are flat-out wrong. I bought my mower, a Toro, from these guys several years ago and it still runs like a top. I ordered it and they assembled it and even delivered it to my house. So when I needed to get the blade sharpened (and an axe and a hatchet too) I took them to Aurora Lawnmower. In spite of what others have reported, there was no line; I was waited-on within 30 seconds and I chatted the guy up for a minute or so but he was real friendly and chatted me right back. I only paid $7 for the blade and $8 for the other two. I took them in on Monday and got them back the next day. Great service. Great price. Great guys. If you're looking for white-glove treatment, look somewhere else. read more

I've had good experience getting my push mower worked on here, but I'll never go back again after today. I wanted to check on getting my electric mower repaired, or on buying another one. The manager was busy at the counter, so I asked the mechanic - who was putting gas mowers outside. He was busy, I understand that, and he said I had to talk with the gal at the counter. I looked around for electric mowers, saw they were in the range of $500, and exited. Outside the mechanic copped an abusive, holier than thou attitude because my (European) motorcycle was partly blocking the sidewalk. As a biker he would never do that, unthinkable. Never mind that he had parked about thirty gas lawnmowers in the public right of way. Their property line falls far short of the edge of the sidewalk. The mechanic told me that Prius (electric) drivers park on the sidewalk there (not bikes like mine and his). Anyway, he dismissed the fact that he was picking an argument. As I waited for traffic to pass he hollered out a good ol' biker threat, letting me know I should be careful out there on the road. You can go to a local big box store to buy a mower. For repair, Please go somewhere else. read more

They did a great job sharpening my ancient push mower - they even cleaned it up, Definitely not a yuppy magnet (do people still get called yuppies?), but these salt-of-the-earth guys know their stuff. It took about a week and cost about thirty-some dollars. Cool and interesting place too, with about a million mowers of every possible kind (for sale, I guess) parked out front. Both of the times I've walked in with cash in hand and a certainty about the exact part(s) I needed, I've been treated as if I was an unwelcome burden. On both occasions, it was clear that the staff believed I was incompetent and should be put in prison for attempting to turn a wrench on my own equipment.
