Very welcoming and attentive staff while the layout of the restaurant makes for having conversations over food/drinks easy even though it was packed. Restrooms are relatively clean and also dog friendly outside patio. However, the 3 star rating was mainly for the food & drinks. The drinks had a lot of little flowers inside and wasn't sure if it added any flavor but I sort of choked on them if you sucked one up in the straw. The food wasn't to my expectations. The avocado toast was decent but a lot going on with so many nuts and sesame seeds but my poached egg wasn't really poached as barely any yolk came out. The steak and eggs was a beautifully plated dish but the cut of meat was super tough and poorly seasoned. Cute spot! My coworker and I stopped by for lunch around 1 PM on Wednesday and it was packed! Lots of people sitting outside and even more people sitting inside. Unfortunately, the service was unbelievably inefficient. I think this is the first time where I've felt so strongly that a restaurant desperately needed an operations manager (to be fair, I took operations a year ago so I previously was blissfully unaware). First, we walk up to the host stand. No one is there, but there are many other customers hoping to be seated. We see the host walking around and getting people coffee, and clearing off some tables. Finally, he comes back but doesn't seat anyone even though there are four empty tables. That would've been too simple. Instead, he and three other waiters (aka all of the other waiters who are working at the time) are standing around by the cash register laughing and joking around. Finally, he comes back and seats one party. Then, we have to wait even longer for a different waitress to come back to seat the remaining parties. The operational inefficiencies continued. it was unclear who technically was our waiter because we had to bug all of them to order and to get our drinks and check. Also, each time we asked a waiter for something, they would look a little confused and then take ages to return with the fork or glass of juice, or never return so we would have to repeat our request. Unlike the service, the food was a winner. We had the Brassicas Bowl and Banana & Walnut Bread. The Brassicas Bowl was yummy. Very filling, and with fresh delicious ingredients. There was something in there with a bit of kick to it, which made the Banana & Walnut Bread the perfect way to finish the meal. A massive, I mean MASSIVE hunk of bread with a thick layer of cream on top. A decadent treat that should be reserved for treat yourself kind of days. Here's what we got: Zoe's Market Plate $16 (two eggs any style with avocado, watercress, roast tomato, sweet potato, beet relish, and cauliflower) + $5 for smoked salmon Everything tasted really fresh and I loved how vibrant the plate looked! You really do get a bit of everything to form a solid, healthy meal. I think there was probably too much olive oil on my avocado but other than that, it was really delicious! I would recommend adding the smoked salmon. Pickled Chilli Scrambled Eggs $16 (on sourdough with avocado and watercress) Had a bite of my fiance's and the scrambled eggs were cooked really well. I came here for brunch last Friday and was surprised how busy it was for not being the weekend! I don't even want to imagine what the weekend brunch wait would be. Everything looks good in photos & on the table, but I guess you really have to develop a liking for eggs, prosciutto, and avocado to pay $30+ for brunch on a hungover Sunday morning. I think the first time I came here I had ordered an acai bowl, which back then was the most poppin' item on the menu in any newly opened cafe in the city. But it's so pricey for mediocre taste, so the second time I went for the brunch food. A fabulous , little restaurant super close to my apartment that I can't wait to make my regular spot! I had always seen and heard of Two Hands, but I had never actually made my way here or ordered via any food delivery app. My brother was in town for the weekend and had some time to catch up for a late lunch and after a few minutes of browsing, we decided on Two Hands. It was a beautiful, warm day out so we decided to sit outside. Upon being seated, our waters were immediately filled and orders very quickly put in. The menu is filled with all sorts of healthy and delicious-sounding items, I wanted to get everything, but ended up going with the cold brew martini and the pulled chicken bowl with halloumi. My brother got the brassicas salad with pulled chicken as well as a banana smoothie. Our orders came out quickly, and I was absolutely blown away by how fresh and DELICIOUS everything was. The portions are large, and you can tell that all the ingredients are super fresh just by looking at the food. I had to stop myself from nearly eating my whole bowl, which was definitely enough for two, the food was that good. The prices are reasonable enough for the quality and also how much food you get. I love my acai bowls. I always have to try them whenever they are on the menu. This was not sugary sweet, so it was on the healthier side. It had a good amount of fresh fruit, coconut flakes, granola, and pumpkin seeds. I didn't like the decor inside as much. A little dirty I thought, I don't know if it's just that they are super busy and it was around 3 Pm when I was there. I so badly wanted to give this place 5 stars because after reading the reviews prior to coming here, I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. But alas, there is a reason for why Two Hands fall short of the 5 stars. Let's start with the good. We came here on a Sunday for brunch around 11 and it was pretty packed. Thankfully, there was a steady flow of people coming in and out, so we waited about 20-30 min before we were seated. Not bad of a wait on a Sunday morning. The inside is small, quaint, and has a fair amount of natural lighting--definitely a cute spot for breakfast and brunch. There is also outside seating, although limited. If you come here alone or with a friend, I recommend seating at the bar because that seems to be more readily available. There are a couple gluten-free items on the menu which are labeled GF next to them. Yay! Shortly after being seated, the waitress came by to take our drink orders. I specifically asked for almond milk in my latte because I'm allergic to dairy--no, not lactose-intolerant...straight up ALLERGIC to dairy (it's a specific protein in dairy). My friends ordered a cold brew, a cold brew with almond milk, an iced latte with whole milk, and I ordered a hot latte with almond milk. Instead, I got a hot latte with whole milk. I took a couple sips and immediately knew it wasn't made with almond milk. My friend sitting beside me who ordered the iced latte gave me a sip of his and sure enough, they mixed up our order. They put almond milk in his instead. When another waitress came by to take our food orders, I politely let her know that they mixed up our orders and that I was allergic to milk. She dryly apologized (because honestly it wasn't her fault since she wasn't the one who took the order), then took the drink to have it remade. Moments later, she came back with a new cup and told my friend that he wasn't going to get charged for the almond milk in his latte...well, no duh! Why would anyone get charged for the restaurant's mistake? Anyway, we ordered our food. I ordered the Zoe's Market bowl, which was really good. I think my favorite part of it was the sweet potatoes. The bowl had a great balance of grains, greens, and protein while being flavorful. It wasn't a huge portion, but it was pretty filling. We were all satisfied with our choices. At the end of our meal, we received the bill, and I noticed that they had comped my latte after messing up the order. Although no one mentioned to me that it would be comped, I appreciated the gesture. However, I still feel uneasy that such a simple order could be messed up. Dairy allergies may be less common, but like a nut allergy or any other food allergy, it's so important to be careful because what may seem like a simple mistake can be a huge cost to someone's health/life. I sincerely hope that Two Hands will be more cognizant of this in the future. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the food, I think overall, the staff could use a bit more training and polish up on their customer service. This experience was a slight damper to my weekend in NY. For anyone visiting NYC, I would recommend looking at other brunch/lunch spots before considering Two Hands especially since there isn't a shortage of good food around the city. read more

The maitre d' insisted the whole party needed to be present to put the name on the waitlist - even just to put the name on the waitlist! Completely goes against 1) common sense (if we are not all here, just skip over us! c'mon) and 2) what every other restaurant in the city and in the world is doing. You need to just put the name down, if we are not there, skip us over, if we are there, let us in! The maitre d' was very rude, would not give us a wait time, when asked for a wait time, simply said "Your entire party needs to be here". That has nothing to do with the wait time! Went to Two Hands Restaurant and Bar on a Thursday during lunch time. I've seen this place plenty of times on Instagram and it was a must for me when visiting NYC. My partner and I arrived at around 11am on a weekday and service was slow. It took staff a while to get us seated when where were many tables available and our drink orders were forgotten about until we asked about them. The wait for food was long, we probably waited 30 mins for our food from the time we ordered. It wasn't just our table who was waiting a while for food. In terms of food, the banana bread was great, probably the one thing I enjoyed the most. I ordered the pickled chili scrambled eggs and my partner ordered the burger. The eggs had a good kick to them and the avocado helped with the spiciness. The burger was good according to my partner and the housemade ketchup was a nice touch. Two Hands serves the type of food that I probably should prepare for myself at home - fresh whole ingredients, prepared very simply, and perfect for day to day sustenance. I ordered the smashed peas, which came with a generious portion of perfectly cooked peas, proscuitto, and bread. I, of course, added a poached egg. I'm not sure what I expected, but I just felt the the dish was exactly what I just described, no more, no less. Well, the poached egg could have been less well cooked, but that's beside the point I'll give them points for generious portions and good quality ingredients, but it just didn't have that umami that I'm looking for when dining out. For that, I give this spot a 3, 3.5. I think it would be great if this was a healthy take out spot that was a bit less pricey, that would really work for me, but as a brunch spot, that has at least a 40 minute wait for 2 on the weekends... it's probably not for me. I wish other people didn't love Two Hands this much, because it is a pain in the ass to eat here most of the time. On the weekend, be prepared to wait for brunch unless it's 3pm. Dining solo here is a little easier, and my favorite time to come to Two Hands is after morning yoga. You can typically grab a spot at the bar pretty easily (except in the summer, when even that's a toss up). They really excel at executing consistent, healthy-ish brunch food though, and for me that's worth dealing with all the hype. The mushroom toast is my #1. Really good, hearty, and filling. I also love the banana bread with espresso mascarpone -- a little too sweet and hefty for me to eat on my own, but definitely get one to split if you're here with a friend! I'm also partial to their acai bowl (beware though, the seeds in this get stuck in your teeth like no other acai bowl that's come before, and I always need floss) and the pickled chili scrambled eggs. If I want something a little lighter than the mushroom toast, I typically get the Zoe's market plate, or the brassicas bowl, which are both excellent. Avocado toast here is fine, but not my favorite rendition. 3.5 stars. A solid 3.5. While in the neighborhood, I pulled up a list of nearby Brunch spots on Yelp, and gave my visitor the list to choose from. I wasn't particularly thrilled with her choice given it had lower ratings than other nearby cafes, but she was reeled in by the photos of a very promising "millennial brunch" experience; we definitely got what we came for. A very bright, airy, clean, and photogenic café with chic accents of succulents, clean lines, and photographs of blue waters that I immediately recognized as Australia. I lived in Aus for a year, and I had no idea until walking in that this place was "aussie-themed." Ironically, I had invited a friend to meet us here for brunch, and he's a friend that I met while living in Australia! Fun times! This is very similar to a brunch experience in Aus - overpriced, but delicious and healthy options, AMAZING coffee, and very, very, very slow service. I don't think Americans realize that dining out in most other countries is a leisurely social activity. Servers aren't checking on you every five seconds, and you're meant to enjoy the experience of eating and conversing with friends. However, that said, the service is very, very slow. We had different servers tending our table throughout our whole meal, all who were very lovely and several who had aussie accents. We really had to flag down a server when we needed refills or wanted to order. I ordered an acai bowl, and my friend ordered the BLAT (bacon-lettuce-avocado-tomato) minus the tomato, plus a fried egg - so really, she ordered a BLAE, on ciabatta. Both were delicious. This was my first experience with an acai bowl, and I was not disappointed. It was topped with delicious nuts, seeds, granola, and fresh fruit. Be warned - you should give your mouth a good rinse. I had dark seeds and a purple tint to my teeth upon completion. It was a little steep, however -$25 after tip for an iced coffee and bowl of fruit. I guess that's NY for you. This is the Tribeca outpost of the popular Nolita restaurant, and it served a beacon of healthy-ish light for me after a day at Aire. Around 4 pm on a Sunday, it was pretty light on people, and I had my pick of seats. Space is very beachy and modern. Service was polite and swift. I had the cauliflower couscous ($15), which ended up being more of a salad. Everything was served at a chilled temperature and was mixed together in a lightly acidic dressing, so everything tasted homogeneous. It would have been nice to have the cauliflower or couscous served warm, or the components a less aggressively mixed, or maybe even just more of those juicy raisins or crunchy almonds thrown in, but as it was it was just continuous and slightly too salty bites of greens, fragmented couscous, and feta. On the small side as well. It's a fun and photogenic place, and I would revisit the closer location, but you do feel a bit silly paying $20 after tax and tip for this kind of food. read more
