After we finished our drinks, we waited an especially long time for the waitress to come back, check on us, and give us our bill. It was especially frustrating because we were the only ones in the bar at this point and we could hear them chatting downstairs. Overall, both service and the drinks need improvement. I don't associate anything cool with FiDi, but this cocktail bar is as cool as any spot you'd find in the East Village, with expertly made drinks, sleek decor, and partnerships with trendy businesses like Morgenstern's and Momofuku. While a place like this could probably command a full crowd and waitlists in another neighborhood, probably due to its location its quite easy to breeze on in, even as a large group. We had drinks made with pebble ice, drinks with egg whites, egg yolks, and even vadouvan curry. 3 out of 4 of our drinks were excellent, with one dud, but I'll take that ratio-- especially since the vibes were on point. My only regret is not trying one of their cocktail ice cream treats that is part of their Morgenstern's collab. Split Eights is also a coffee shop by day, so if their wifi is strong this would be a great place to post up for work on a Friday afternoon and transition easily to happy hour. read more

The server was extremely rude to my friend, my other friends went into the bathroom all three of them together, no issue. about an hour later I went into the bathroom with 2 of my friends and one of the bartenders came knocking on the door, we're all girls, there's usually no issue at places like this and she wouldn't stop knocking till we came out. I just don't understand why we're treated so differently than the other patrons at this bar. I will never be coming back. I had such an awful experience, lt also took about 20 minutes to wait for each drink that was ordered but when I ordered the tab, it came in .5 seconds. I wish I didn't tip. read more

I had previously patronized this bar on a solo trip to NY from Chicago. This trip, I brought my team in for a happy hour. When we entered we were told that the policy was that groups of six or more would have to purchase a minimum of two cocktails. That's the policy and I can respect their policy, however, my team members raised the point that they did not want to have two drinks as we are on a work trip. Makes sense. It was 6pm on a Tuesday. The bar was completely empty. Not one patron. Just us. The bartender allowed us to leave. I'm also a bar owner in Chicago (which is why I gave 3stars - not trying to hurt anyone's business). I'd feel a way if one of my employees allowed 11 paying customers to leave when we did not have business at any point. At $16/cocktail, the 11 cocktails might have paid the bartenders hourly for the entire night. I'd also be concerned about the bartenders reasoning ability as they also allowed a tip to walk out the door. Perhaps there is some rationale for the policy in this situation that I don't see but it didn't make sense for me. We left and went to another bar on principle and ended up still spending the same amount of money as we would have if we had purchased two drinks per person here. read more

I grabbed a few drinks at Split Eights with a few coworkers on a Thursday afternoon. We were a party of 5, but only 3 of us were there to grab the table. They sat is in the corner booth in the back and then very nicely moved us upstairs when our party turned into 6. For my first drink, I had an Espresso Martini. It's not on the evening drinks menu, but they do have espresso prepared for it. You can also order drinks that are not on the menu - if they have the ingredients, they're happy to make it for you. All drinks are $18. The Espresso Martini was very good and I actually really want to come back during the day to have a cup of coffee. For my second drink, I had a Whiskey Sour. I know, I'm got a cocktail place, I should try one of their signature cocktails, but I just couldn't make up my mind so I just went with something I knew. It was fab. By the end of the night, we were only 3. They brought over a small parting drink, which was so nice of them. Honestly, service here is phenomenal and we were so well taken care of. Split Eights definitely surprised me. In an area where most don't expect cool cocktail bars, Split Eights clearly reigns supreme. I came in as a party of two at about 7:30 on a Friday and luckily didn't have to wait for a few spots at the bar. We tried four drinks, all were great, but the Butterscotch Flip, in particular, was my favorite. In a world saturated in espresso martinis, we finally have a unique alternative that actually rivals even the best of the best in tastiness. Highly recommend this one. The bartenders, too, were cool - chatting it up with regulars while they created their concoctions and definitely giving more friendly vibes than a lot of the bartenders in trendier neighborhoods. Finally, this spot is a coffee shop during the day, too, so I'm excited to pop in if I ever find myself in this area during sunlight hours. We were greeted nicely at the entrance given a choice between a banquette or sit at the bar we chose the bar.. had very tiny poors and they were a cup of stirs in front of me so I took one later to be scolded by the bartender saying I can't grab a stir for sanitary reasons.
