Yes, yes and yes. This place doesn't have to try hard, it's damn good just as is. The space is small and makes you feel right at home. Your waiter will always be closeby and everyone inside feels like a friend. You will NOT be sorry if you order a crab cake or burger - both are top notch. (...and I grew up in the Mid-Atlantic, my crab cake kudos don't come lightly!) I've also tried their crab soup (large amounts of meat inside) and their little neck clams (they are dressed with bacon, potatoes and butter, need I say more?). My friend decided to try something different and ordered their jalapeño cilantro-lime chicken pasta. While it jumped off the menu at me initially, I convinced myself it couldn't possibly be "that good" among the menu of more casual plates. Damn, I was wrong. I had a bite and it was SO fresh and delicious. He "got the last one," which gives me the impression that they must make the pasta and/or sauce only daily - another win. I should've asked! Also, beer. They serve up some great local pours and also have a stacked list of national craft brews to try. Loved that. Love love this location on A1A, eating right across from the beach with the sound of the ocean in our ears and a sea breeze keeping us cool. Our waiter was super attentive and fun. The food was mostly good - the prime rib fries appetizer was great, and the burgers are really good. We were a bit disappointed by our scallops dinner - it tasted great but for the mid $30 range we expected more than 6 modest-sized scallops on a piece of lettuce. The clam chowder also didn't measure up to the moniker "New England" - we're from Massachusetts so know good "chowdah". It was not quite creamy and thick enough, and was too heavily salted. However, the outdoor dining experience on the beach gets this place a solid 4-stars and we'd eat here again if we're back in the area! read more

Y'all. I just can't quite put into words how much I love the Turtle Shack. I knew I would fall in love the second I saw a sesame crusted ahi tuna on the menu. Their ahi tuna is WAY better quality than what Golden Lion puts out down the street. Not to mention a bigger portion AND cheaper. Sold. Also, their pesto pasta salad is under-rated AF. So delicious. I want to take a bucket of it back home with me to Tampa. Damn. Just look at the photos I've posted. Fresh and damn good. Not good, GREAT! My husband got the crab cake sandwich. I felt like this place should be on the show Diners, Drive-in, and Dives. I mean this in the best way possible. It's a cool little shack with outdoor/indoor seating off A1A. Regular and bench tables available. If you want an outstanding burger, sandwich or seafood in a cool setting while at the beach... this is your place. Lots of locals seemed to be regulars and they happily welcomed us. Service was prompt and positive. If I'm out this way again, I look forward to stopping in again. read more

Omg! The food and services are fantastic! I had the crab and grouper bisque and steamed mussels with a crusty bread that were to die for. My husband had calamari that was the best we tasted anywhere. Once again...why we yelp. Located right on the beach on a rare blustery day, we stopped here for a bite. An amazing selection of beers did not disappoint, and our waitress was informative and delightful. We started with the in house kettle chips with a crazy combo of blue cheese, bacon and balsalmic drizzle. Ask for a half order...but order these! (I would have liked fresh chives...but still amazing). Then my husband had an amazing fish sandwich and I indulged in a plate filled with 3 mahi tacos with all the fixings. (I would have preferred corn torts.. but not as popular here in Florida). The sweet potato fries were too sweet for me, but my husband's fries were some of the best I have ever had. Was recommended this place by a friend of mine. Everything seems super promising from the start but it all went down hill over time. Started with a beer while waiting, Meghan helped us get our drinks and I've gotta say she was excellent. A+ to her. Quickly got seated, ordered our apps and entrees together around 5:40. Ordered Prime Fries and waited roughly 25 minutes for them. Prime fries were absolutely fantastic and would get them again. Things took a turn after our app. We noticed table after table that ordered after us was getting their food. Around 6:35 or so someone comes to our table and says our food should be up any minute. 6:50 and still no food. Finally I just ask for the check, after the bill was paid for and we are about to leave suddenly our food is ready. Seems as if our entree was completely forgotten about. Not to mention the massive container of sweet tea that was dumped all over the floor, my wife and other customers. If it wasn't for Meghan's service and the fries this would be a 0/5. Began the meal with the bisque which was suggested by the server. It contained a good amount of seafood but really was tasteless. I wouldnt order it again. My husband had the clam chowder and raved about it. We then both had the blackened grouper sandwich with a side. I had the pineapple slaw and he had mashed potatoes. The sandwich was good and just what you'd expect. The slaw was great--no visible pineapple but was so tasty made with the juice. The mashed had skins and met with his approval. The shining star of the meal was the cherry cobbler for dessert. Wow. Very sweet and warm with a dollop of whipped cream. We sat outside and watched a million bikers ride past as it was Bike Week. This was our first visit to Turtle Shack. We had heard for years how good it was but just went other places. I had the blackened trigger fish and my husband had the blackened mahi-mahi sandwich. My meal came with jalapeño rice and slaw. Both sides were exceptional. My husband had the seasoned fries, which were delicious. Both plates were more than enough. The service was wonderful.
