We are new to this area. When we moved here, we were leaving behind a lot of great options regarding take out food that represented the best in cultural cuisine with lots of varíety . Initially, we struggled to find a good place that covered if not all, most of our culinary expectations, including quality, price, taste and customer service. The Bantam Chef, rang the bell in each of those departments. I learnt that they have been in business for over 40 years( no surprise there) . They have a winner here. The one negative criticism I would mention, is that the exterior buildings could use a good pressure wash and a fresh coat of paint. Consistently delicious and huge portions of fish. I've been eating here whenever I'm in town for the past decade and it is always the same. Reliable. Amazing. Delicious. Best fish sandwich in the US. Fast service. Everyone is nice and the clientele is cool to chat with during your short wait for your food. I have probably ridden past this place a couple of dozen times in my travels back and forth to the coast, and never even knew it was there. That is, until a classic BMW rider I talked to on the beach mentioned it. So I figured, what the heck, give it a shot! All of the seating is outdoors, so you are going to be subject to whatever weather is occurring, though the seating is under cover, with two large areas. I sat in the second area that isn't right next to the ordering window, and apparently is not used as heavily. Service was pretty standard. Order at the window, get a ticket number, then wait for it to be called and go pick up your order. No hassles. While it was suggested to me originally that I try the fish as it was the best in the area, I really wasn't feeling up to a fish sandwich, so I went for a burger instead. I have been to a lot of different burger places around North Florida, and this fits right in with the standard burger stand style burger. Price was also right in there with the rest of the places I have been to. The fish that I was seeing come out did look pretty good, so perhaps next time (and there should be a next time) I will try that out instead of the burger. It is nice to know that there is a place like this along the way that I can count on for having this kind of food. read more

Bunnell, Florida is a smaller community that sits somewhere between Daytona Beach and St. Augustine (pretty much halfway between the two better known cities). Bunnell certainly has grown, but it still holds its smaller community feel to it. If you are passing through, make sure you stop by the Bantam Chef and grab their famous fish sandwich, you won't regret it (of course, unless you are allergic to seafood). I'm not gatekeeping this one any longer. Tucked Bunnell about 12 minutes off of I95 is an institution that has fed locals for over 30 years. I discovered it while just browsing every restaurant on Google maps cruising virtually down I95. Upon reading reviews and seeing several guest photos, I saw that their fish sandwich was their biggest seller. A stand alone structure with ample parking and plenty of outdoor seating. There was a line when I arrived around 3pm on a Wednesday. I had to try their epic fish sandwich. Stacked about six inches high, their fried white fish sandwich is absolutely out of this world. At the time of eating, the sandwich was going for about $10, an absolutely steal. If you're ever in the area... shoot even if you're within an hours drive... make the time to eat here! Please! My husband and I have heard so many reviews on the Famous Fish Sandwich at The Bantam Chef we had to try it out. We went tonight and as we were heading there it started to rain, I told my husband no worries they have covered outdoor seating. When we got there a few people in line but were served very quickly. I ordered our sandwiches 3 Famous Fish with 1 without lettuce (mine). The lady behind counter was nice and gave me a ticket with our number on it, our order number. My husband waited for our sandwiches as I got us a seat. They do only have picnic tables which comes with their cute little kitty ‍. The surroundings could be a little questionable especially at night but their sandwiches are the bomb!!! Or the fried fish is, the sandwich is so big I can't open my mouth wide enough to take a bite so I just took pieces of fish off the sandwich. For those of us who have lived here for years this is famous comfort food They used to be $4.25 back in the day, but they are double + that and still worth it! Yes, it's a hole in the wall but if you love good fried fish sandwich your tastebuds will rejoice! I prefer my fish ALTW (all the way). Lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion and their delicious tartar! We stopped at Bantam Chef for lunch after hearing about their amazing fish sandwich. And it is truly amazing. I have never seen so much fried fish between two pieces of bread. But I cant hand out more than 3 stars. First I order fries with my sandwich but got onions, second the sandwich was very dry and needed a second helping of tartar sauce (which you have to pay for). And third, my medium ice tea was warm with very little ice. I will say that the portions are huge and reasonably priced but we probably will not be back read more

I herd about this business from a coworker. So, today I decided to take my mom on a lunch date. The fish sandwich (you get enough fish for 3 sandwiches) was DELICIOUS. The fish with the light well seasoned cooked perfectly did not taste greasy at all. The bread was very soft and toasted. I got it all the way with lettuce, tomato pickle and tartar sauce. The french fries also delicious cooked well and the broccoli tots tasted great. They taste like broccoli, cheddar, soup, but fried you can clearly see the cheese pull on the picture. I paid $32 42 fish sandwiches or order of french fries onion rings, and broccoli tots. It was very good. The service was great. The workers were kind. I waited maybe five minutes to get my food. "The food and service is awesome!" is very true!!! Went yesterday evening, after learning about here from some new friends. It was just great!!! The staff are wonderful and the food really is awesome! Went for a burger, onion rings and cole slaw, and it was all so worth the drive and so delicious. We moved to Palm Coast early last year and are still learning our way around and Bunnell has a lot to offer. Even the clientele were ever so nice. Just so taken with this great little spot. food was excellent as usual, but when i checked my bank account, i noticed that i was charged double the amount said, i got my receipt out and it was a tip. i give cash when tipping. i remember when my card was in the machine i asked" is it ok?" the the person said "o"and reached out the window and pushed a button. didn't think nothing of it, we have been going there for many years. i'm not going to use my time to go over there ( i'm in Hastings) just lesson learned, so a $34 meal cost us $78 i did leave a cash tip too. They have gone down hill over the years! Only on occasion do we get lucky and get a decent fish sandwich. Either the fish was sitting around after being fried and tasted off and looked transparent instead of white. The last time out there we ordered two fish plates and the coleslaw had started to sour. I went to the window to let them know and they were getting the coleslaw from a plastic bucket that was being stored on a lower shelf on a work table. Coleslaw will sour in a warm kitchen quickly. They brought us a cup of slaw that was obviously from a colder container but it too was starting to sour. Next time we will omit the coleslaw from the planned meal. As others have mentioned, the fish sandwich is STACKED with a generous amount of fish. I actually removed some of the fillets just to be able to hold it and eat it as a sandwich. No worries, my other half was happy to eat the rest of my fish which, in my opinion, was easily enough for a second sandwich. Anyway, the oysters were also delish! Flavorful and only wish there was more. If you don't feel like dropping $16+ on the oyster dinner, there's also a sandwich option for under $10 (we didn't notice that option until after we ordered though). If there's anyone in your group that's not a fan of seafood, there's also chicken sandwiches. We tried the mushroom bites which were ok but we probably wouldn't order those again.
