Famous fish sandwich

Sheeeesshhhhhhh. I don't really feel like any other word can describe the food. Wish they were closer, but thank goodness they are not or i would be here weekly. Had the fish sandwich--soooo good ya'll.

Bunnell, Florida is a smaller community that sits somewhere between Daytona Beach and St. Augustine (pretty much halfway between the two better known cities). Bunnell certainly has grown, but it still holds its smaller community feel to it. If you are passing through, make sure you stop by the Bantam Chef and grab their famous fish sandwich, you won't regret it (of course, unless you are allergic to seafood). I would definitely recommend checking Bunnell out.

Finally got to stop in. There were a few people ahead of me but they were so fast. I got the fish sandwich it was delicious. Next time I'll ask for extra onions and pickles.

We love this place! $15 fish sandwich with fries and coleslaw. Enough food for my husband and I to share. We drive from Ormond just to get the fish sandwich. Staff is always friendly. Get here early as it gets really busy, but so worth it if you have to wait. Outside dining only, under the huge awning.

I'm not gatekeeping this one any longer. Tucked Bunnell about 12 minutes off of I95 is an institution that has fed locals for over 30 years. I discovered it while just browsing every restaurant on Google maps cruising virtually down I95. Upon reading reviews and seeing several guest photos, I saw that their fish sandwich was their biggest seller. A stand alone structure with ample parking and plenty of outdoor seating. There was a line when I arrived around 3pm on a Wednesday. I had to try their epic fish sandwich. Stacked about six inches high, their fried white fish sandwich is absolutely out of this world. At the time of eating, the sandwich was going for about $10, an absolutely steal. If you're ever in the area... shoot even if you're within an hours drive... make the time to eat here! Please! It'll change you. It's not just a delicious fish sandwich; it is a throw back nostalgic experience. A true Florida hidden gem.

Famous Fish Sandwich (SO BIG)!!

My husband and I have heard so many reviews on the Famous Fish Sandwich at The Bantam Chef we had to try it out. We went tonight and as we were heading there it started to rain, I told my husband no worries they have covered outdoor seating. When we got there a few people in line but were served very quickly. I ordered our sandwiches 3 Famous Fish with 1 without lettuce (mine). The lady behind counter was nice and gave me a ticket with our number on it, our order number. My husband waited for our sandwiches as I got us a seat. They do only have picnic tables which comes with their cute little kitty ‍. The surroundings could be a little questionable especially at night but their sandwiches are the bomb!!! Or the fried fish is, the sandwich is so big I can't open my mouth wide enough to take a bite so I just took pieces of fish off the sandwich. I ended up taking home a sandwich which I will eat for the next 2 days!! Yes we will definitely go back again!!!

For those of us who have lived here for years this is famous comfort food They used to be $4.25 back in the day, but they are double + that and still worth it! Yes, it's a hole in the wall but if you love good fried fish sandwich your tastebuds will rejoice! I prefer my fish ALTW (all the way). Lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion and their delicious tartar! Sometimes I go plain with tartar on the side if you got a decent drive home, but we love eating it hot! Also, try the broccoli bites! Sooo good!!!

I've tried this a handful of times and the burger is always a bit dry, as is the cheap bun. It takes about 20 minutes to get your food, too.

We sat in the bar but we could have easily gotten a table at 5pm on a Thursday. But by 6pm when we left, every table was full. The prime rib - I asked for the rarest piece and it did have some pink to it. I like the horseradish sauce that came with it and also with the fried mushrooms. The fried mushrooms were also good and plentiful. Not the absolute best ones I've ever had, but I order them everywhere. They were very good and fresh too. Hubby got the ribs, small order. He almost finished them, 1 left. We both liked that the BBQ sauce wasn't too sweet. These ribs are helping to make a St. Louis style ribs person of him. (Usually he is a baby back only guy). The baked potato was really good, with salt on the outside. The vegetables were watery frozen ones. Given the high quality of the rest of the food, that was a disappointment. Yelp is asking me about ambience. This place is sort of like a diner with a decent sized bar in front. The tables and chairs looked to be in good repair. There is a choice of booth, high top and regular seating. Southside does not have happy hour but the prices are low to begin with.

Wish I had gotten the waitress's name as she was very good, friendly and attentive. The food was fantastic. I got a cheeseburger with baked potatoes instead of fries. The burger was cooked well and to my liking and it was very tasty and juicy. The potato was just as good. My husband got the meatloaf dinner and he said it was wonderful. I did taste his meatloaf and I have to say it was so tasty and moist that I might get it next time. Can't wait to go back and try some other dishes as well. They have a surprisingly varied menu. Oh I almost forgot to mention that we got the apple cobbler for dessert and it was fantastic. Warm and sweet, served with a healthy portion of vanilla ice cream.

Not many people out n about so I couldn't really get a vibe for what the place would be like when it gets busy. But it was a great spot for breakfast and we sat on the rooftop area inside so it was covered from the rain, but I can't wait to go back someday for the outside ocean front deck, even closer to the water. I ordered the Irish Benedicte with hash that is homemade on premise with slow roasted corned beef. Very tasty. The side of Home fries were thinly sliced and I had gravy added to that so it was tasty too. Our server was excellent, Trevor was a very nice guy and he recommended we come back for the all you can eat ribs. I wish I was staying in town longer and I would. I'll make a point to come back next visit.

It was raining but we had a great dry spot upstairs under their cover with a view of the ocean. Our server, Johnny V, came up timely and took our drink order and upon serving them took our breakfast choices. I liked that he repeated our orders and in a friendly and professional manner. I ordered the homemade corn beef with eggs, croissant and grits and Mark ordered the two egg breakfast with homemade fries, bacon (loads served!) and toast. My corn beef was the best I've ever had at any restaurant and the croissant was cooked by slicing in half lengthwise and toasting on the grill. What a clever idea and it was absolutely delicious. Johnny V made sure we were fine with our meals and might want additional drinks. Great server. We love this place and always bring all of our out of town guests here for a meal.

This was a huge disappointment since we drove out just for trivia. It would have been nice to get some kind of compensation, but all we got was super slow service and a 3 percent credit card surcharge! (It does say that on the menu, but again, it would have been nice if they took that off for the inconvenience.) The food is over priced and mediocre. 12 dollars for a wedge salad that is about a third the head of lettuce and very little toppings is inflation at it's best. Two dollars to sub fries for chips is also a bit much. The most surprising part was the tipping options starting at a whopping 25 percent, then 30, then 35 percent!! Who is eating here? Burt Reynolds?? (IYKYK) We will not be back when visiting this part of Florida; not even for trivia.

We both ordered the fish dinner, added French fries, baked beans, Mac & cheese and coleslaw slaw for our sides. I can easily say the fish filets were absolutely great, fried golden brown, seasoned perfectly with just the perfect amount of breading. They were about the best I've ever eaten anywhere. All the sides were excellent although the Cole slaw, fresh and creamy, was a bit sweet for me. The baked beans, Mac n cheese and fries were great. They have about every sauce you can add to fish, hot, hotter, malted vinegar, tartar sauce. The owner handed me their own version of hot sauce which was excellent. Ask for it, it's worth it. It has a sweet beginning then heat. The counter service was excellent, helpful, friendly and since it was our first time, she helped us quite a bit. Fish N Chix is definitely worth finding, the food is just so good, fresh and priced reasonably for the quality. There were many take out orders being processed while we ate in the restaurant. It isn't super large but it's very clean and bright inside. On this visit, Fish N Chix did a fantastic job. We will definitely be back. Nice work Fish N Chix.
