Got a seat outside in a lovely day. Service was good but the regulars were what made it phenomenal. Celebrated my birthday here solo, and they made me feel welcomed and loved while thousands of miles away from home. They knock how to keep great regulars I assume! While messy, the Mac and cheese burger was delicious and was still great to have as a leftover.

Stopped in for their $5 Happy Hour wine deal and decided to stay for dinner. Across the board the food was amazing and came in really large portions (tons of leftovers). The restaurant has a really cute Irish bar feel with great vibes and awesome staff that are super friendly! Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a bite to eat near Eastern Market.

crab cake was dry, small, and flavorless.. also the sweet potato fries were burnt smh!

I tried to give this place a second try! I order a crispy chick sandwich one time and it was great but then I had a bad experience since then that first crispy chicken sandwich has been the ONLY time my order was correct and tasty! It's like whoever's cooking doesn't read or know how to read because there's no way you don't under stand simple order request! I don't know the vibe in person but I can't imagine going to dine in at this point! The crab cake sandwich meal was missing things that it was said to come with, the crab cake itself was dry AF, small as hell, and flavorless... Also the sweet potato fries were BURNT smh! I can't catch a break with this place! So I think I'm done. I wouldn't recommend and I don't think I'm going back! I'm sure others may love it but my experience has been very disappointing.

I tried Tunnicliff's Tavern on a whim while in Eastern Market on a Friday evening. Many of the surrounding restaurants were already closed, so options were slim. I'd visited Tunnicliff's Tavern several years ago (pre-COVID), but never got a chance to eat anything because our waitress gave us water and never returned to take our order. We left after waiting about 15 minutes. After my last experience, I was hesitant, but years had passed, so I figured things would be different. Patrons seat themselves and we given water right away. Our waitress returned to take our orders, so all seemed great. The food arrived and it was pretty good. Not the greatest, but definitely not bad. What was odd was that our waitress never came to check on me and my dining partner. She didn't ask how our meals were, she didn't refill our water glasses, nothing. It got to the point where I thought we'd have to go to the bar to pay our bill because we hadn't seen our waitress inside the restaurant in good 30 minutes. Somehow we caught her attention and paid our bill. As we left, I noticed that she tended to patrons on the patio. I wondered why she even had tables inside the restaurant - there was at least one other waitress - if she spent all of her time outside. Don't get me wrong, out waitress was extremely nice, but her ability to check on her customers inside the restaurant was severely lacking. It was an overall odd experience, but I don't think I'll be returning to Tunnicliff's Tavern again. I've learned my lesson.

Artichoke Spinach dip

I've come plenty of times and gotten a few things. We came for my friends bday tonight. We shared spinach and artichoke dip and wings buffalo and old bay flavor. I then got the Greek salad with salmon. It needed some pepper and salt added but it was good. We got bread pudding, apple pie and brownie for dessert. Everything was good and fattening:-)

Brownie à la mode

Quaint unassuming bar with really good dessert. Stopped by at the end of happy hour and got an $8 house wine and was going for a dessert. The bartender recommended the brownie and O M G it was amazing. Get this. I can't wait to come back and try some other items.

Pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, onion, jalepeno.

Tunnicliffs is reliable, I often order delivery for sandwiches at lunchtime or wings and they're always pretty good and transport well. This was a late night pizza and it wasn't the best, but still good enough for an 11pm snack. It was delivered so would have been better out hot.

Chili with cornbread, add sour cream
Lauren R.

I really enjoyed my chili. It had the perfect amount of heat for me and the cornbread was so fresh. If you don't like much spice, I'd recommend having a different soup. The Greek salad was fresh but either lacking dressing or it just didn't have any flavor. Great atmosphere here! It's a cozy neighborhood restaurant with a feeling of tradition. The front is a little more standard pub vibes with barstools and tv's playing sports. Towards the back, is a little bit more quiet with ample tables for families or get togethers. Kids loved it and it wasn't too loud.

Cobb Salad minus bacon

Tunnicliff's doesn't disappoint the local community. It has good food, good prices, good service, and good people. It's first come, first serve in the back of the restaurant. If you're looking for a quick bite or a friendly outdoor meal on their patio, they aim to please. They're located in a convenient location across from Eastern Market. If you're a dog owner, bring him or her along. They allow pets on the patio! All in all, it's a fun casual environment with good food.

Margarita Pizza

I came here on a Saturday at 1 with 3 friends. The inside is very much a sports bar and people were drinking and watching sports. They also do a $4 irish coffee/margarita special. I got the blueberry pancake and it tasted homemade. It seemed like they used real blueberries. Pancake wasn't overly sweet which I liked. My roommate got the margarita pizza and rated it a 8/10. It's a lot for one person so you might be able to make two servings out of it. Seemed like a standard pizza. Their breakfast pizza with eggs seemed good, too. Also, the table next to us got the breakfast burrito which I really wanted to try.

Bacon cheeseburger w tater-tots

Good solid 3* burger and experience. Great location across from the Eastern Market. Good 3* service. Good burger. But...one of my burger criteria to measure is, does the bun stay together for the whole burger. In this case, it didn't. So, that's probably why this was a 3*. Tasty burger patty with nice veggies and bacon. Overall, it was a solid, beefy looking handheld. Can substitute the fries for other options. It was a hard choice between the sweet potato fries and tater tots. Give them a try especially on a nice, sunny day.

Came for burgers but smelled the pizza and had to have it... it smelled SO good! I ordered a pepperoni. Unfortunately, they brought me out a perfectly cooked cheese pizza, and just took it back and added pepperoni and cooked it more so it was a bit over cooked in my opinion and my partner had his food and I had to wait. Other than that, it was great! Everything was tasty. Service was good. No wait for 2 on a Friday night. I'd go back!

Seared Sesame Tuna Salad
Rodger S.

We had an OK lunch here today. I ordered the sesame tuna salad. It wasn't great, but it was definitely better than the fish & chips I had the last time I was here. I wish the tuna had been more flavorful. My husband had the turkey club. He thought it was OK. His sandwich came with French fries, & I had some of them--again. they weren't great.

Really enjoyed the local bass which had a crispy skin and was cooked at the perfect amount of tender. The cocktails were good and our server was friendly. The black squid ink pasta was good. I had never been before, and he was seemed curious to try, so we stopped by. They have outdoor seating, but there was no service at the time, which was too bad because the weather was outstanding. The host is said we could take drinks out there, but not food. So we just opted for the bar. Thankfully, they eventually opened one of the doors real wide so the outdoor air was coming in and that was nice. Happy hour was going until 6:30, and I have to admit that some of these happy hour prices are regular prices at other places XD, but remember it's the wharf. And there was a time when happy hour there wasn't even a thing. So I got a glass of wine and yellowtail tacos with salad. I wasn't expecting the yellowtail to be fried, but it was fine. The salad was way bigger than I thought it would be. It was good. My cousin got the burger and fries... I tasted it and I think I enjoyed the burger more, haha. That smoked cheddar, whew! I found the fries to be pretty average. The ambiance of the place is very nice and I could see myself returning. Some other people at the bar got some amazing looking dishes too, but I know they were expensive XD.

As we were walking back towards our hotel, we actually were passing here so I chose it for our din din spot. I thought for sure it was going to be packed but luckily it was not. I knew I wanted a burger but was struggling with choosing which one. Hubs knew he wanted the Cheesesteak and knew I wanted fries. I went with the Smokehouse burger. We grabbed a seat and did not wait long for our food to come out. I really enjoyed my burger and scarfed it down! I paid for sauces, which were tiny and super overpriced. Hubs enjoyed his cheesesteak but he prefers meat. I had a bite and thought it was really flavorful and very closely tasting like the real thing. I noticed later this is a chain, which is pretty cool. I think the prices were pretty steep so I might skip on the fries next time. The food could have been warmer as well. Definitely worth a visit and will most likely be back when in DC again.

I've done high tea at other locations for a cheaper price AND more/ better quality food. I also found a short light brown hair (I have long black hair) that was baked into one of my scones. At the moment I alerted the say, I could tell they were surprised so they didn't know how to react so they said a quick sorry and just brushed it off. Later someone came out while I was in the restroom and gave my friend a very half hearted apology - I personally did not get one. They didn't really do anything for us to show they were taking the situation that seriously... hopefully this isn't something that happens but I can't be sure... The service overall was disappointing for such a well known hotel. Starting with the hostesses, they didn't seem very welcoming or helpful. We came early and let them know, they just stood there and acknowledged that we were early, they didn't suggest if we could wait at the bar - I had to ask. I don't normally expect that sort of thing but at a place like this, I did expect the staff to be a little more helpful than they were. At the end we went to the restroom and it was a bit busy so we were in there for a little while. We came back and a waiter ran out to us and gave us the bill while we were standing. It was my mistake for not asking about the bill earlier because I thought I paid for the high tea experience online. We planned on going back to our seats but they took everything away already.... We also had a long period of time where no one came out to give us a bill or ask how we were so we were left on our own to figure out what to do. Overall even though the location was beautiful, I think the experience was a very poor representation of the hotel. I would not recommend anyone doing high tea here, there are far better options elsewhere. One thing I do want to point out is that the car attendants were very kind.
