    Turkey club

Pleasantly surprised by this little hidden gem. I was with a friend whose kids go to daycare nearby and we were looking for somewhere to eat that was close before pickup time. We stopped in to give it a try. The space is huge and there are so many options. They have a hot bar and a salad bar, as well as a grill, baked goods, chips, fountain drinks, and more. I ordered a turkey club from the grill and grabbed a fountain Diet Coke as well. Total, my meal with tax and tip was like $12. Not bad for lunch! They don't do free refills on soda, though, and they use paper straws which was a bummer. I told the lady checking me out that it was my first time stopping by and she was very welcoming. They seem like they work really hard to keep folks fed!

The espresso tasted bland and cheap, yet the drink was seven dollars. As I started looking around, I noticed the dated furniture and heard awful, generic pop songs. People were reading, but no one was talking, so the music really missed the mark. Then I saw the little flavor powders on the counter. This isn't exactly authentic to traditional coffee shops, but it is authentic to a specific moment in the 90s, when cafes were bursting with life and culture as vibrant third spaces. These powders feel true to that era. And I honestly miss having them. I remember going to coffee shops w my mom when I was younger, ordering a vanilla frappe type thing and sprinkling the white chocolate powder all over. I paused to think about how they gave customers a sense of authority over their drinks. Adding your own flavors felt like a bridge from making coffee at home to embracing the abundance of coffee shops that seemed to boom in the states in the 90s and early 2000s. It was a sign of the times. And this café captures that. So, is the coffee bad and are the employees a bit rude? Yes. But it is what it is-and you can tell this place isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

The food was good. The hot nug sandwich had a nice tangy taste. Not too spicy and was very manageable. I'd had lived more spicy but the flavors were still very satisfying. The fries were great too. I didn't want to eat at the hotel, so I checked my Yelp app and saw that there is a sandwich spot nearby. I decided to walk a few blocks and try it out. I was glad I did! It's a very unassuming place where you can sit down and have a lunch or dinner or you can get it to go. I decided to get mine to go. I was greeted by friendly cashier. She asked if it was my first time there and I said yes. She explained how the ordering process works and explained a little about each sandwich. I decided to try the RBG, which was $18. I believe all sandwiches are $18. I was a little surprised by the price, but I wanted to try it. The RBG is delicious pork sandwich with coleslaw and a soft, yet crunchy bread. Don't get me wrong. I am not a crunchy bread sandwich type of girly. But this bread was just right for this sandwich. I had the ability to eat the entire sandwich with the bread not becoming too soggy and falling apart. The pork was tender and flavorful, the slaw was crunchy and tart. It was a wonderful combination. The only negative thing that I have to say is that it is a really large sandwich! So, make sure you bring a friend to eat the other half...so you won't be tempted to eat it all like I did!
