    Turkey Breast Sandwich
    Dona P.

Welcome to real deli- like an old school bodega, with fresh cut deli meats, and allll the toppings ! Including gluten free bread ! Has one of the BEAT bfast sandwiches I had tasted in a looonngggg while, two eggs perfectly cooked / turkey sausage and provolone! I added LTO mustard and chili paste- FABULOUS!! Have had a turkey sandwich here as-well that really hit right. They have the traditional oil vinegar blend for sandwich toppings as well! Great chips and drinks options- the ladies who work here are FABULOUS, kind and warm. Great outdoor seating and some indoor as well.

Grilled Cheese Panini to go with a big ass iced tea!
    Paul J.

While attending a business meeting in the bowels of DC, I had the opportunity to order a quick lunch to go from Prego Deli. I chose the grilled cheese panini with a large iced tea. Simple, easy. And when it arrived, I was surprised at how much gooey cheese was in the sandwich. And the best thing about it, there were grill marks on the bread with a nice taste of char. A unique grilled cheese for sure. Best of all, the large iced tea wasn't just large, it was officially "big-assed"! These folks knew exactly what I needed! If you're ever near Prego Deli, stop in for lunch. You won't be disappointed!

Great selection of sandwiches, salads, breads, meats, etc. Hole in the wall that you have to check out!

    #4 - Prego's Italian Cold Cut
    Toya D.

Just adding pics of today's dinner! I normally get the Famous Italian Cold Cut, but wanted more. #4 - Prego's Italian Cold Cut (Mortadella, Bologna, Genoa Salami, Capicolla, Provolone Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Hot pepper, Oil & Vinegar) with extra meats (Prosciutto and Pepperoni), Olives, and Sweet Peppers *drool* This is it. The perfect sub to share...or keep all to yourself. So good. So right! Prego NEVER disappoints. __ IG: @f.hux I #yelp and I know things. Wanted something slight but filling and this place definitely had exactly that. Menu is extensive with breakfast, lunch and dinner if you like. Walking it was clean and friendly. The sandwich I got was a chicken pesto panini, the bread used for the panini absolutely amazing ! Tasted freshly baked and as If I was eating a pizza with perfect crust and grill marks. The problem i had with the sandwich was that the pesto wasn't really present as I really looked forward to that the most and the chicken although a good portion was dry and kind of bland. I loved the fresh ingredients which clearly shines threw through taste and sight but I would love to try other menu items as they serve breakfast and lunch sandwiches and having a sandwich that's flavorful and filling with a good price point is my kind of place. Will be coming back and maybe ask for more pesto next time but also try the other options available.

    Cuban Sandwich
    Laura W.

While I can only speak to my delivered sandwich, I can attest that they make a tasty, albeit non-traditional, Cuban that is easily 2 meals in one order. I added hot peppers which was a nice addition in order to balance out some of the saltiness from the pork and ham. My only complaint would be the bread that sandwich came on. It was much more like a hoagie roll so it would have been nice to be pressed just like a traditional Cuban. Otherwise, though, I enjoyed the sandwich (which was well-kept in it's package, hot, and not soggy) and would happily order from here again when I'm in the workplace.

Bacon egg and cheese croissant and breakfast bagel sandwich

There are a fair share of breakfast sandwich places in Eastern Market. But when it's afternoon and all of those places are closed, Pregos really came through for us. Timing is important for these things and on this cold day we were greeted by the cheesiest, crispiest, most magnificent breakfast sandwiches ever. They had plenty of options for bagels and meat options as well including turkey sausage. We were very pleasantly surprised by this spot and plan to return again.

    Reuben
    Monique V.

I was so disappointed to receive this Reuben!!! Unacceptable!!! The bread was burnt and there was hardly no meat, sauerkraut or thousand Island dressing. To pay $12.95 for this is horrible. It won't happen again!!! They need to go to New York or locally to Deli City to see how a real Reuben is made !!!

Located in such cute little area of the city. It was such a nice day out and I walked all the way here. So many people were out or working at the coffee shops near by; it was lovely. They made my sandwich super fast. I walked in and told them what I wanted and they got right to work. The only other people in the store were school kids who had gotten off the bus and were getting an after school snack. I built my own sandwich. The bread was fresh and all the veggies were too. I don't get any meat on my sandwich, and sometimes that makes for a sad sandwich at other places. Not here! They had a good amount of cheese and loaded the veggies on. It was one of the best sandwiches I've had. The only thing to note is I did get vinegar on my sandwich and during my 10 minute walk back home the bread got slightly soggy. That's obviously not Prego's fault. That's the nature of putting a liquid on bread. But if that does bother you maybe eat it there! Each time I come to D.C. I'll definitely be grabbing a lunch from here.

It's primarily a take-out shop with a dozen or sandwiches and a few sides. It was so good that I didn't even miss not cheese! Initially, I thought about adding cheese, but glad I didn't and stuck with the classic sandwich. By the time I made it through a couple of bites of the 2nd half of my sandwich, I was stuffed and didn't have any room or a craving for chips or fries that I typically get. It was a simple sandwich with quality ingredients made well. Crossing my fingers that the veggie The Truth sandwich stays on the menu and looking forward to coming back to try other sandwiches!

They operate a deli counter in the front and a bar / speakeasy in the back. You can rent out the bar space for private events. Last night, we had the space (and a bartender!) to ourselves, along with 3-4 different types of sandwiches. There is something SPECIAL about their seeded Italian bread. The perfect flakiness and texture. I enjoyed the chicken fontina and Italian. The caprese was my least favorite--not sure if they use a balsamic or what, but the flavor wasn't coming through. Before I left, I decided to order a large chicken cheesesteak to take home for lunch the next day. It was a bit of a risk to order a hot sandwich that I would have in the fridge overnight but I heated it up in our air fryer/toaster oven for all of 10 mins and the bread was good (not soggy) and the sandwich itself was delicious. I enjoyed it so much, I didn't stop to take a photo until the last bite :) It's a decent size sandwich--I ate half for lunch (along with my own chips and veggies) and have another half for tomorrow so while it's not cheap, I think it's reasonable.

The Castellano had a crisped pile of gorgeous beef, with crispy fries, and super fresh veggies (basically a cheeseburger on a sub). I add peppers, provolone and mayo and an extra side of tzatziki (labeled garlic cucumber on the menu), and oil and vinegar (which tastes like Italian dressing, but who's counting?). The bread is phenomenal. I may literally just order a sub roll with no ingredients one day, just so I can eat it toasted with butter, with every meal I have. It's soft and fluffy, crispy and chewy all at the same time. (It almost gives bagel, but not tough). I also got the y cheesecake. Not as special, perhaps from the Cysco truck (iykyk), but I still bought it and scarfed it down. Strawberry topping was def the average canned-strawberry topping (but I personally love that). I cannot stress, the food is OUT OF THIS WORLD! As for service, the entire team is so friendly and helpful. They kid around, make silly jokes and make sure your order is prepared fresh and fast. It isn't "fast food fast", but also doesn't taste like shit either, so the wait is worth it. At most 10-15 min if you don't call ahead. As for seating, in winter there are only two two-tops so seating is extremely limited. It is mostly a deli-and-get-outta-here kind of place, but nonetheless welcoming and charming. They have tons of Italian memorabilia all over the walls including giant GodFather posters, taxi plates and more. Today was my first time inside, but I've had my husband go pick up food several times on the way home. I cannot live without one of these subs AT MINIMUM once a month.
