The women working behind the counter were well synchronized and helped each other (taking orders, preparing orders, stocking cooler shelves and cashier). Customer Complaint Regarding Additional Charges for Standard Food Requests Dear Atrium Café Management, I am writing to express my frustration with the pricing practices and customer service experience I had at Atrium Café in 400 Virginia Ave SW DC. I have been in the restaurant business for more than 30 years, including experience with mom-and-pop restaurants, smaller establishments, and different types of food-service businesses. Because of that experience, I was particularly surprised by some of the additional charges being applied to what I consider to be reasonable and common customer requests. I was informed that customers are charged extra if they want their sandwich served hot/on grill. I was also told that there is an additional charge for having other ingredients served on the side rather than placed directly on the sandwich (Wow) I find this practice very difficult to understand. If an ingredient is already included with the meal, why should a customer have to pay extra simply because they would prefer to have that ingredient served on the side? The restaurant is not necessarily providing additional food; it is simply changing how the food is served. I was also surprised to learn that there is an additional charge for cheese on a some sandwiches. For example If cheese is typically associated with a roast beef sandwich than why are we being charged extra for the cheese. This is very unfair to the consumer. Would you charge a customer less if their sandwich normally comes with cheese, but they ask you to remove it? Or if they remove any other ingredient that would save you money, would you reduce the price? Obviously not, right? So why charge customers extra when they ask for something simple, like having their sandwich heated or putting an already included basic ingredient on the side? Another issue that concerned me was being charged extra simply because I wanted my onions grilled. Charging an additional fee just because an ingredient is prepared differently seems excessive, particularly when the ingredient can be part of the meal. I also took the time to read through reviews from other customers regarding this location, and I noticed that high prices and concerns about the cost of food are recurring themes in a number of the reviews. In my opinion, the practice of adding multiple small charges for ordinary preparation or serving requests could potentially be one factor contributing to customers' perception that the overall prices are high. I understand that restaurants have rising food, labor, and operating costs, and I completely understand charging for additional ingredients (extra meat) or substantial modifications to a meal. However, there is a difference between charging for something genuinely additional and charging customers for relatively minor preparation or serving requests. After more than 30 years around the restaurant industry, I believe businesses build a strong reputation by making customers feel valued and by providing reasonable pricing. Constantly adding small charges to ordinary customer requests can create the opposite impression and may leave customers feeling that they are being charged for every little thing. I hope management will take a serious look at these policies and consider whether these additional charges are truly necessary. Customers shouldn't be feeling like they are being nickel-and-dimed for reasonable requests (ex.on side preparations or grilled onions) I am sharing this feedback because I believe Atrium Café has an opportunity to improve the customer experience and build a stronger reputation by reconsidering some of these practices. I had heard a lot about this place, so I decided to give it a chance. To my pleasant surprise, the sandwich I ordered was honestly the best sandwich I've ever had. The smoothie, on the other hand, was just okay. As far as the atmosphere, cleanliness, and customer service, the experience was great overall. The ladies working in the prep area were amazing. They were friendly, welcoming, and made me feel comfortable. Their attitude and customer service are a big part of what makes this business stand out and bringing high reviews. However, I did feel that the leadership at the front counter could have been more welcoming. It appeared that a father and son were working together, and the younger gentleman, in particular, could improve on being more friendly and approachable with customers. My honest opinion is that the employees preparing the food and working behind the scenes deserve a lot of recognition. They are the ones who create a welcoming experience and help build the reputation of the business. Without their hard work and positive attitudes, I don't think this place would receive the same level of praise or reputation. I would definitely consider coming back because of the quality of the sandwich and the kindness of the prep staff. I would simply encourage the leadership team to be more welcoming and mindful that customers come from many different backgrounds and cultures. They offer your traditional American breakfast and lunch items like breakfast sandwiches, bagels, breakfast burritos, deli sandwiches, wraps, salads, soup, etc.. I appreciate the showcasing of the carving station on the food assembly line. They also serve a variety of fresh fruit, pastries, and cafe drinks. The food isn't great, but it works as a quick lunch or breakfast if you work in the area or are visiting local museums / L'Enfant Plaza. The customer service is usually OK. Wonderful breakfast and lunch spot in the area and the go-to spot for sandwiches around here. They use fresh high quality ingredients that you can taste. You may be able to make the same sandwich at home, but it won't taste the same! Even the sauces seem to be store-made recipes, the honey mustard is not the typical honey mustard you get in the store. The meats they use are the star of the show- carved meats right in front of you all delicious but the fan favorite is the turkey. I enjoy the experience of making my custom sandwich here and am still perfecting my combination every time. Plenty of drinks to choose from in the fridges or off of the menu and all are quite affordable considering the prices of competitors in the area. Their salads are packed in big containers as well. The line goes fast and you will need the time to decide what you want! After walking 4 miles, we needed food and rest. This was the closest place - definitely not the cheapest. It was a little chaotic inside - canned drinks and prepackaged sandwiches on one side, and self service foods, including the grill and desserts on the other. We got the chicken fingers and fries, mac'n'cheese, and hot dog. Husband got a fountain drink for $4.95, and the only water without your own container was the Dasani in a can or the cup for $4.95. I got the latter. The food was decent. The chicken fingers and fries were hot enough. The hot dog was warm, and even though the mac'n'cheese was not hot, it WAS delicious. Instead of water? I got the pink lemonade, and added water to it to cut the sweetness. There is a water bottle fill station next to the water fountains. These are next to the fountain drinks. There are plenty of tables, and they are cleaned regularly. The utensils, cups, and trays are reusable. Meals are in cardboard sleeves, plates or bowls. Have been here for lunch several times since starting work at a nearby office. The food is fine, but not necessarily anything to write home about. I have mostly eaten sandwiches. Turkey is good, the corned beef was not (it is chopped up and heated on a grill, really making it unappealing). Korean Beef wrap is also mediocre, and has very little bulgogi flavor. Service here is incredibly slow even during non-busy hours, and that makes it less appealing. It's an okay option, but not particularly great. read more

This is the world's best sandwich shop. I will not be taking questions. They have hand-carved turkey, ham, roast beef, etc and so many types of bread + toppings. While it is pricey, they give a generous helping of meat and it is much higher quality than subway or potbelly. They do move quickly so if you're new it can be a bit overwhelming. Okay, they run out of the favorite breads (baguette for me, and .50 more but worth it) and certain meats (freshly sliced roast beef, le sigh) by 12:30pm, but this Korean deli has amazing sandwiches and soups. The running out part is why they're getting docked a half star. Plus they're cash only. Boo that. so 4.5 stars for this baby. Considering L'enfant options, this place is the holy grail of lunch places. I can definitely vouch for their chili (I usually hate chili, but theirs is hot, flavorful and not too beany), their chicken salad sandwich and their ham. They're generous with their meat scoop, so you might have to do some redistribution before attempting to bite into something larger than your face. It's true, "lettuce, tomato, mayo?" will get you just that. ONLY that. Want cucumbers and red onions too? Speak up! Make sure to try the honey mustard... and the SPICY MUSTARD IS AMAZING. I don't even like mustard and it's amazing. Maybe it's the new administration that makes me like mustard now. Who knows? Sandwiches set you back $6-7, soup $3 to 4. In summary, great meats, great selection of toppings and breads, great price, great location. woot. Directions: It's on the backside of a building. Prior to eating at Atrium Cafe I thought it was going to be like the millions of Korean owned cafes in DC but this one put all those to shame. They carve their ham, turkey and roast beef right in front of you and the portions are very generous. I went ahead and got their turkey sandwich on wheat with the standard tomato, lettuce and mayo, a bottle of water and a bag of chips costing a little bit shy of $11. I don't expect to get cheap food in D.C. but so far the quality and quantity they gave you at least matches the price. All the workers behind the counter were quick and took their time to make the sandwiches. I have found my new lunch spot if I am craving a sandwich! Tucked away near L'enfant plaza is this quiet little cafe. Its sits at the intersection of School and 4th street right by the tracks of the VRE. It never seems too crowded when I come here. It has plenty of table space and lots of outside light. They have a nice selection of prepackaged salads like chef and garden. Everyday they have a freshly roasted ham, roast beef and turkey carcass that they carve on the spot for sandwiches. And all sandwiches are customized to your liking. They have the assembly line going so your sandwich is done lickety split. I like to get the turkey on multigrain with alfalfa sprouts, cranberry sauce, cucumbers, lettuce and tomato. Add a package of kettle chips and viola- cheap and somewhat healthy lunch. Because it's a cafe, they have an assortment of coffees and teas. Basically what you can get at Starbucks, you can pretty much get here. It's a great place to break the monotony of the L'enfant plaza area.
