The women working behind the counter were well synchronized and helped each other (taking orders, preparing orders, stocking cooler shelves and cashier). I appreciate the showcasing of the carving station on the food assembly line. They also serve a variety of fresh fruit, pastries, and cafe drinks. The food isn't great, but it works as a quick lunch or breakfast if you work in the area or are visiting local museums / L'Enfant Plaza. The customer service is usually OK. Wonderful breakfast and lunch spot in the area and the go-to spot for sandwiches around here. They use fresh high quality ingredients that you can taste. You may be able to make the same sandwich at home, but it won't taste the same! Even the sauces seem to be store-made recipes, the honey mustard is not the typical honey mustard you get in the store. The meats they use are the star of the show- carved meats right in front of you all delicious but the fan favorite is the turkey. I enjoy the experience of making my custom sandwich here and am still perfecting my combination every time. Plenty of drinks to choose from in the fridges or off of the menu and all are quite affordable considering the prices of competitors in the area. Their salads are packed in big containers as well. LUNCH: Atrium is the sandwich place GO TO in the L'Enfant area if DC. Be prepared for a long lunch line, but don't be discouraged. The line goes fast and you will need the time to decide what you want! There has been many a times where I have my mind set in one of their turkey sandwiches and then as I approach the glass display case, I see a picture of a special sandwich of the day. After walking 4 miles, we needed food and rest. This was the closest place - definitely not the cheapest. It was a little chaotic inside - canned drinks and prepackaged sandwiches on one side, and self service foods, including the grill and desserts on the other. We got the chicken fingers and fries, mac'n'cheese, and hot dog. Husband got a fountain drink for $4.95, and the only water without your own container was the Dasani in a can or the cup for $4.95. I got the latter. The food was decent. The chicken fingers and fries were hot enough. The hot dog was warm, and even though the mac'n'cheese was not hot, it WAS delicious. Instead of water? I got the pink lemonade, and added water to it to cut the sweetness. There is a water bottle fill station next to the water fountains. These are next to the fountain drinks. There are plenty of tables, and they are cleaned regularly. The utensils, cups, and trays are reusable. Meals are in cardboard sleeves, plates or bowls. My church and I went to the MOB and walked over to this cafe. We were a big group so that means more money to the business right? I don't know if she was the manager or owner who ever she was, she kept eyeing EVERYTHING we did from what drinks we grabbed to where we were sitting. If we grabbed a soda and had our child sit with it she will tell one of the ladies making a sandwich to tell us we need to pay for it. Duhhh Anything she thought was going to be stolen she would send someone to tell the group. NEVER again will I take a group there. This cafe is in my building and I highly recommend it to tourists visiting the area especially the nearby museum of the Bible. They serve fresh well prepared fare. I highly recommend their BLT, but the salads are awesome too. They roast turkeys daily and so the turkey in sandwiches is fresh and not processed. We stayed at the citizenM hotel up the block and while searching for breakfast, I found this place. Highly recommended by workers in the neighborhood so we decided to try. You can tell a lot of important people or they work in important offices, come and have lunch there. We had lunch the first day and breakfast the next. Both were good. The turkey is so delicious! Have been here for lunch several times since starting work at a nearby office. The food is fine, but not necessarily anything to write home about. I have mostly eaten sandwiches. Turkey is good, the corned beef was not (it is chopped up and heated on a grill, really making it unappealing). Korean Beef wrap is also mediocre, and has very little bulgogi flavor. Service here is incredibly slow even during non-busy hours, and that makes it less appealing. It's an okay option, but not particularly great. read more

This is the world's best sandwich shop. I will not be taking questions. They have hand-carved turkey, ham, roast beef, etc and so many types of bread + toppings. While it is pricey, they give a generous helping of meat and it is much higher quality than subway or potbelly. They do move quickly so if you're new it can be a bit overwhelming. I highly recommend getting the bread toasted--they make the sandwiches so quickly that it makes the cheese melt and is delicious. read more

One day, I will get a roast beef sandwich. ONE DAY GOSHDARNIT! Okay, they run out of the favorite breads (baguette for me, and .50 more but worth it) and certain meats (freshly sliced roast beef, le sigh) by 12:30pm, but this Korean deli has amazing sandwiches and soups. The running out part is why they're getting docked a half star. Plus they're cash only. Boo that. so 4.5 stars for this baby. Considering L'enfant options, this place is the holy grail of lunch places. I can definitely vouch for their chili (I usually hate chili, but theirs is hot, flavorful and not too beany), their chicken salad sandwich and their ham. They're generous with their meat scoop, so you might have to do some redistribution before attempting to bite into something larger than your face. It's true, "lettuce, tomato, mayo?" will get you just that. ONLY that. Want cucumbers and red onions too? Speak up! Make sure to try the honey mustard... and the SPICY MUSTARD IS AMAZING. I don't even like mustard and it's amazing. Maybe it's the new administration that makes me like mustard now. Who knows? Sandwiches set you back $6-7, soup $3 to 4. In summary, great meats, great selection of toppings and breads, great price, great location. woot. Directions: It's on the backside of a building. A better, more accurate address would be on School St SW, between 4th and 6th St SW. They have a little red overhang on that side, and it's much easier to find over there. read more

Prior to eating at Atrium Cafe I thought it was going to be like the millions of Korean owned cafes in DC but this one put all those to shame. During lunch time the line was out the door but it was moving at a quick and efficient pace. They specialize in sandwiches, and that is what most people were ordering. They carve their ham, turkey and roast beef right in front of you and the portions are very generous. I went ahead and got their turkey sandwich on wheat with the standard tomato, lettuce and mayo, a bottle of water and a bag of chips costing a little bit shy of $11. I don't expect to get cheap food in D.C. but so far the quality and quantity they gave you at least matches the price. All the workers behind the counter were quick and took their time to make the sandwiches. I have found my new lunch spot if I am craving a sandwich! This place never disappoints. Don't be thrown off by the hole-in-the-wall feel to this place, once you come once, you will return. Come here for the fresh carved meat experience (fresh turkey, roast beef or ham). I find it difficult to improve upon the fresh turkey, but my coworkers have tried the roast beef and really like it. I like the choice of bread (toasted if you want) or tortilla wrap (plain, spinach, and tomato), and you can get whatever toppings you desire including banana peppers and jalapenos to spice up your smile. I crave this place during the year to make that thanksgiving classic with Turkey and Cranberry. Prices are reasonable, line is long, but moves fairly quickly. It has plenty of table space and lots of outside light. They have a nice selection of prepackaged salads like chef and garden. Everyday they have a freshly roasted ham, roast beef and turkey carcass that they carve on the spot for sandwiches. And all sandwiches are customized to your liking. They have the assembly line going so your sandwich is done lickety split. I like to get the turkey on multigrain with alfalfa sprouts, cranberry sauce, cucumbers, lettuce and tomato. Add a package of kettle chips and viola- cheap and somewhat healthy lunch. Because it's a cafe, they have an assortment of coffees and teas. Basically what you can get at Starbucks, you can pretty much get here. It's a great place to break the monotony of the L'enfant plaza area. Atrium has maintained its assembly-line approach to building great sandwiches for several years now and this is praise deserving. For the newcomer, once you make the line, it is not a place for idle chit-chat with the service staff. You need to know what you want when you make the line. They have no time for small talk and want to keep the line moving. But move it does, and the result is a great, thick sandwich the way you want it. Wish their iced tea was next to the soda fountain, since I don't do carbonated drinks. That slows down the process a couple of seconds. Still, an excellent place. As far as the price that others have complained about, sorry folks, it's supply and demand. They know they have a decent place and price accordingly.
