Came back to an old favorite and things have definitely improved! Service has gotten better, and the food is somehow tastier. We've come in for happy hour, dinner and brunch, all of the options were worth the visit!

I didn't even know this Matchbox was over here but it was a vibe and I'll be back. They even had a DJ playing! I sat the bar before going to a nearby restaurant for dinner. Seems like brunch had just ended. Service was a little slow but I only wanted a drink. I ordered a strawberry lemon drop and it was pretty good.

14" Matchbox Meat Pizza

I stopped by Matchbox on Capitol Hill and had such a great experience! The pizza was absolutely delicious -- perfectly crisp crust, fresh toppings, and that great wood-fired flavor that makes every bite memorable. You can really taste the quality in their ingredients. The cocktails were just as impressive -- well-crafted, balanced, and served with care. Whether you're into something classic or want to try one of their signature drinks, you can't go wrong. The atmosphere was lively but comfortable, and the staff made me feel right at home. It's the perfect spot for a casual dinner, date night, or drinks with friends. Can't wait to go back!

The Matchbox at Eastern Market, DC (Capitol Hill) Recently, I was walking around DC with my mom when lunchtime hunger hit us. After reviewing a few nearby options, we landed on Matchbox, largely because my mom had a craving for chicken and waffles. Unfortunately, that dish didn't make it onto the newly released menu. So, she pivoted to the fried chicken meal, which came with green beans and mashed potatoes. I, on the other hand, couldn't decide. There were too many tempting options left me paralyzed. In a moment of indecision, I hastily ordered the mumbo wings, a cup of cream of crab soup, and a guava lemonade. The décor was warm, well-laid-out, and inviting, so I was surprised by how quiet it was during prime lunch hours. When the food arrived, I instantly felt plate envy. My mom's fried chicken looked golden, crisp, and plentiful, with sides that appeared equally appetizing. My mumbo wings, however, were smaller and less flavorful than I hoped. Fortunately, the cream of crab soup was excellent, rich, creamy, and satisfying, and the guava lemonade was refreshingly good. One critique: given how light the crowd was, I expected a bit more attentiveness from the staff. While our food came out quickly, check-ins were scarce and service felt a bit detached. Recommendation level- mixed: * Food: Mixed -- some hits, some misses * Décor: High marks -- stylish and comfortable * Service: Could be more attentive Overall, a pleasant atmosphere and decent meal, but a few refinements could make the experience truly shine.

Meat pizza -- not the greatest crust but good stuff on top!

We were in the mood for hamburgers, so we came here. They were everything we'd been hoping for! My husband asked for onion straws instead of fries, & the waitress was accommodating.

Surprised my friend for her birthday with MatchBox's unlimited brunch special. It was the perfect opportunity to sample some of everything off the menu! Their biscuits are always my go to and I was glad they were included in the brunch special as we ordered 3 batches between the two of us. Our favorites were the sweet chili salmon pizza for the novelty, shrimp and grits for its creaminess, and blueberry lemon pancakes for their sweetness. The caesar salad was nice and the side of catfish was the right portion size. All the food was worth the brunch price. And the service of the waitress was excellent. She was attentive to our needs and checked on our table frequently. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the lighting at our table was awful. It effected the quality of our photos, bur an overall wonderful experience. I can see myself going back once a quarter for their brunches.

About a 1-1.5: We had ordered here for a work lunch, and while navigating the online system was extremely difficult (slow loading, error signs, etc.), we were managed to submit for a pickup. We had ordered: +a couple of the Roasted Salmon entrees - this was supposed to be butternut squash risotto with cremini mushrooms, oven-roasted tomatoes, and shaved Parm; we had requested the goat cheese and arugula on the side, but this came in a small condiment cup in which the arugula and the goat cheese were already mixed together; in addition, the arugula was not fresh, and the goat cheese was hardly in existence +a Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo - with sun-dried tomatoes and cremini mushroom; the chicken itself was overcooked and super chewy; the side of garlic bread was extremely soggy from the heat, as it was not even packed separately, but put inside the container; there was a request for extra alfredo sauce, but the pasta were hardly dressed and dried out Service was friendly at pickup, but there was confusion on the order and it didn't seem to have been ready yet, even though we had arrived during the pickup time quoted. Not a great experience; we'd probably try another eatery the next time around. +greens are not fresh +overcooked proteins +soggy breads +customizations not adhered to

Arancini

From the minute we sat down EVERYTHING was great! We were a group of 6 and our waitstaff, Charles was outstanding at keeping our drinks filled and bellies full! We ordered Arancini- it comes with 3 balls which is fine to cut in half, 4- 10in pizzas (hot honey pepperoni, garlic chicken, shrimp Alfredo, margherita) garlic chicken was the table favorite (shocked us all with how good it was), catfish and grits which was plenty to share with the fish lovers at the table- you would need 2 if everyone in your party loves fish, and all 5 desserts! Listing them in the order we loved them, s'mores, donut holes, apple crisp, chocolate brownie and finally the cheesecake. It was fun to try all of them but the brownie and cheesecake weren't anything special and we could have ordered 2 orders of donut holes and the s'mores and been just as happy. Fun place to go with friends where you spend time talking and grazing thru the meal!

Chorizo eggs, grilled chicken on the taco bar were excellent! biscuits & strawberries amazing. Got a $5 reward by signing up with Thompson table rewards. Free cheesy bread for new customers!

Shrimp & Grits This was my least favorite but the flavor was all there!

This place was great! I love the atmosphere, service was friendly and professional, and they offered more food than I could eat lol They offer a bottomless brunch where you can eat w.e your heart desire for 2hrs. They also have a bottomless drink option that I took full advantage of! Will visit again next time I'm in town!

Was my first time stopping by. We received excellent customer service from Tracy T. There were so many food choices to choose from . The atmosphere is so beautiful and peaceful, totally recommend for a date. Will definitely be returning.

This place was very good! Didn't realize that the fried catfish sandwich was beer battered but other seafood was fried differently. Wasn't a fan of that. The service was great, they were accommodating. The ambiance was nice, it was a vibe.

Rating: 4.0 03/20 Reservation is recommended, which was super easy on OpenTable. We came for the bottomless brunch for $35. RESTAURANT: The entrance was with a beautiful balloon arch today. There is a small dining area in the patio outside. Inside, there are several dining area levels, about three. We were sat by the wall on the first floor. Music that I enjoy is playing on the speaker and it definitely the vibe right. There's a beautiful bar where people could dine as well. Decor is very minimal which worked with the dark color scheme and brick walls. Love the wall of live plants by kitchen area. Restrooms were clean. Street parking only. SERVICE: We were greeted by a sweet young black gentleman, and told us all about thebottomless brunch. Our server with Anthony, and he was sweet as well. He took our orders and made a couple of suggestions. He brought my son refills of his drink, several times without being asked. Our reservation was for 10:30 AM so it wasn't busy at all. So when there was a bit of wait on our food, it was kind of frustrating, especially the biscuits because I assumed that we would start with the bread service which arrived after our two appetizers. I will attribute the wait time to the blogger near us. They seem to have ordered everything and so the kitchen was pulling all the bells and whistles for them. Which is sad because we are paying customers too. But staff were attentive, they would often pass by to clear the table. FOOD: Bottomless drinks is also available for extra 20 or $25. We only have coffee and sprite. We tried two of every category . We had the Caesar salad and chicken wings with buffalo sauce, buttermilk fried chicken, shrimp, and grits, peach cobbler waffles, and pepperoni pizza. The chicken wings were a bit on the small side, but the sauce was delicious, but my favorite was that blue cheese, they should bottle that up! The fried chicken was delicious and it came with fries. The peach cobbler waffles were OK. The pizza was delicious, nice and crispy crust with tons of pepperoni. But the star of the show with the shrimp and grits. Nice big pieces of tender shrimp, drenched in sauce with bits and pieces of sausage. I'm guessing they forgot to put this in because it took so long it was the last dish that was served to me, and by then I was already so full to eat the whole thing. I don't like to waste food. Overall, this was a pleasant visit. The food is good, as well as the portion size. The price point is fair for the variety of dishes available. You only have two hours to enjoy and so I recommend you ordered everything you want to order as soon as you arrive so perhaps your time will be less.

I've shown several other people this place and they loved it as well. When it turns to side door they make some bomb Detroit style pizza. I truly haven't had a bad example of the style yet. I don't know if I'm selecting well or if it's maybe just low key the ultimate style of pizza but this is yet another fantastic example. It's just a small, quick takeout place for the most part, though there is some seating outside when the weather is appropriate. As such, service is generally to the point which is fine by me.

Super Unique Setup With Cool Lights That Make It Easy To Spot. It's Different From Your Typical Pizza Place, Which I Actually Liked. Since It Was Monday, They Had Half-Off Pizzas If You Dine In & I Had To Take Advantage Of That. CHEESE PIZZA I Ordered A Cheese Pizza & Lemon Water. This Is Detroit-Style Pizza, So Don't Expect New York Style. It's Thick, With A Generous Amount Of Mozzarella Cheese & Tomato Sauce. Honestly, It Almost Felt Like A Cheesy Bread Situation But In A Good Way. The Crust Was Buttery With A Slight Crisp On The Outside & Soft Inside, Which Was The Perfect Balance. The Ingredients Tasted Fresh, & It Was Very Filling. The Size I Got Came With 4 Slices, & Honestly, 2 Slices Was More Than Enough. I'd Definitely Come Back & Bring My Son This Feels Like A Spot He'd Love, Especially If He's Into Breadsticks & Cheesy Pizza. The Staff Was Decent, Though I Didn't Interact Much. The Overall Setup Is Interesting, A Full Restaurant Vibe Inside With This Separate Pizza Concept On The Side. Different, But It Works. I'm Glad I Finally Tried It, Unique Setup, Solid Detroit-Style Pizza, & A Great Deal If You Catch It On The Right Day. Just Have To Be In The Mood For Detroit-Style Pizza.

However, it didn't live up to the expectations. Upon arriving, my husband and I were shown to a table against the wall that had been set up under some kind of ledge that might normally be used as a bar. I would have had this ledge leaning up against me so I asked if we could move to another table. We were seated at a table in front of the door and the hostess stand, so it was cramped. The tables were extremely packed, I had to use a plastic chair, and the table was wobbly so we had to fix that as well. The day had been a little warm so the door was propped open but when we got to the restaurant, it was really chilly. Since we were right by the door, I asked the waitress if we could shut the door. The waitress said she had to ask the manager and the manager came back and said no. There was a couple next to us who said that they also asked to close the door and the manager said no. My husband ended up getting up and was like Yo dog, it's 40 degrees outside, close the door. They ended up closing the door so like a little sexist? Why will the close a door when a man asks? The waitress asked if we wanted still or sparkling water, and we opted for still. You can imagine our surpris when we found out that we were charged $8.00 for water because we did not specify "tap." We didn't discuss it with the waiter but I thought that was idk, kind of shitty? Everyone knows that you don't pay for the still water We started with the grilled octopus which was ok and we ordered two of the bruschettas. I want to clarify, this meant that we literally got one of each type of bruschetta. I thought we would get like a small plate of both but it was literally two pieces of bread for $12 each. Yikes. I got the short rib pasta which was fine. The sauce wasn't very smooth. My husband got a panini that was also fine but certainly not worth the price tag. For the trouble with asking to move the table, the wobbly furniture, the water, and the door issue, not the best. Won't be returning!

That month I had started Uber driving, was in this area of DC, had heard good things about Wiseguy, and decided to eat here. Although I don't like paying to park just to simply eat a meal, I sometimes will make an exception for convenience and/or if it's a place I really want to go. But for the most part, I'll go to restaurant where they have free parking or at least I can find free parking near the restaurant. I remembered getting a parking spot very close and feel like I feed the meter like 50 cents in 2014 parking prices for a quick 30 minute meal. They have all kinds of varieties of slices from the standard toppings or just cheese to fancy ones. Although the pizza is fairly thin, but average for New York style pizza. I tried Andy's Pizza 11 years later in 2025, and while it was solid although not as good as Wiseguy, my real complaint with Andy's was that the pizza is very thin, where I was hungry very soon later; so a much worse value as pricing is comparable to Wiseguy. Wiseguy slices are big, and the pizza is top notch New York style. I went to this location a couple of more times after my initial August 2014 visit as I loved the pizza. Then, they opened up other locations. I went to Navy Yard one at least twice, once after a Nationals baseball game after a disappointing loss for my 4th favorite baseball team, Texas Rangers. Sorry Nats fans, but Nats are in my bottom 10 teams. I also went to Rosslyn & Pentagon City location, where parking isn't quite as bad. They even had a Wheaton Mall food court location, which I got to experience once, but they sadly closed. Every experience with Wiseguy has been positive.

For me the detroit crust was a bit spongy and had a slight yeast taste. Not enough to ruin the experience but enough for me to choose a different crust next time. We also got the ranch for dipping - new experience. That too wasn't for me. The ranch is homemade and great texture and flavor just not what I expected. It had a heavy dill flavor...yep...dill.
