This is cool little shop! Some of the items in the trays were out that I wanted to try. A sweet older lady came over, noticed my perusing and assisted me with my questions. I picked one thing and perused some more as she brought that to the counter. I got one more thing and proceeded to checkout... then perused the side rack with tofu chips. The same lady said I could sample those and brought a sample cup to me AND then followed that with a tiny cup sample of the hot soybean(?) drink. Also got tofu black sesame chips. Super nice service from her. I don't think I saw/noticed everything they had to offer. Would return to find out. read more

Use Caution: their Chinese donuts may have too much food additive (ammonium bicarbonate, NH4HCO3). You can't taste any thing, but make sure you smell these donuts next time before you eat. I used to trust their quality and buy their Chinese donuts almost every week. But last week, I paid a little more attention, and the donuts had a strong unpleasant ammonium smell. Their purple rice rolls are excellent!! They don't put them out on the counters so you have to ask for them. They're in a cooler behind the register. It was my first time having a purple rice roll and it was so good. My favorite part is the Chinese donut that's inside. So many textures and flavors. They also have other great soy products. The tofu here is very fresh. Have bought it a couple times to make some dishes at home and they have worked well. It's a step up from the packaged tofu, but not so great that I'd go out of my way to get it. We've also bought a couple bags of their frozen potstickers. These suckers are GREAT! For $8, you get about 20-25 pieces that boil (or boil and pan fry) within minutes. The potstickers are as good as any that I've had in a restaurant around the Greater Seattle area. read more

The most expensive place selling soy milk. They use ultimate small cup (the smallest size of cup you can find on market) and charge it for 3-4 dollars. This is not the worst, most of time they only fill 3/4 size of the cup. With same money, I can buy half gallon of hot sweet soy milk somewhere else. read more

Yum Yum, I was thinking about the you tiao days after and wanted to go back again. :( I wish they would open a place on the west side! Parking: strip mall, should be plenty Ambiance: No place to sit - you just order the food and pig out in the car. Feels like you're in a tiny breakfast joint in Taiwan Food: Yum, didn't I already mention that? You tiao is best when fresh and they seems to bring them out periodically. It's not the hard, old, double deep fried ones, its the slightly crunch on the outside and chewy on the inside kind that's been freshly made :) YUM! Shao bing wasn't the best - they had been sitting in the warmer for a while so lost it's flakiness. I can imagine it was wonderful when it was first brought out. And I have to confess you tiao are my fav, so I'm a little biased, these are good, very good, but only available Wed and Sat. Price: reasonable - $3.75 for you tiao, a little over a buck for the you tiao and sorry forgot how much the shao bing was. Recommendation: Totally try it! The name "Tofu 101" doesn't give the store the full credit of selling a variety of authentic Taiwanese breakfast items and snacks. I have tried most of the items there. The recommended must try list is: egg tart, purple rice ball, hot organic soy milk, peanuts, and cold appetizers such as bean curds, seaweeds. Very authentic and consistent taste. The prices are not very cheap but it is all about what the public is willing to pay. read more

This is a very nice addition to the Asian community and i bet we are all tired of those greasy american chinese food with heavy MSG. Beware that most stuff there are Taiwanese style. Only a few cantonese style cakes and drinks available. I ordered the pork bao, greentea soy milk and pork dumpling. Maybe too many yelpers wrote too high reviews which pushed my expectation very high on this place. I was abit disappointed. I think first 2 items are good but not great. The bao is huge for $1.5 with nice clean pork filling (not a usual mess in some dim sum restaurants here) but overall i don't see there is rich pork flavor. The soy milk doesn't have too much natural soy bean flavor. I suspect the shop may mix in too much water in it. Glad to see they makes everything in house and the shop seems clean. However, there isn't too much work to make great tasting soy milk, trust me!! read more

Tofu 101 is such a great place to go and grab delicious Taiwanese foods to-go. They have fantastic, authentic, reasonably priced fare that resembles such back home. This little place makes my Taiwanese heart so happy. It's not fancy, pretty, or posh. It's just a simple little mini market with their factory-ish kitchen at the back where you can take out all the doughy Taiwanese things that make someone who sits in an office next to a row of soy-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan, all protein diet girls SO FREAKING ECSTATIC. I bought a savory zong-zi (rice wrapped in lotus leaf), a sweetened soy milk -- really yummy, has a little of that tofu taste and not too sweet -- and a box of cabbage-pork big buns. Next time I'm hoarding some frozen dumplings for home. Their egg tarts look like the Portuguese variety - a little creamier with the burnt sugar on top. Good stuff. Also, when I get to speak Chinese for like 5 mins, this totally makes my day. And WHAT? They have Taiwanese breakfast? I am so there. read more

Fresh tofu....can't beat that. We cook with tofu a lot. Before Tofu 101, the only option available is the store-bought ones. After I tried the tofu at Tofu 101 (either silk or medium firm), I can really taste the difference. Their tofu is definitely fresher, more clean tasting. The price is not that different from store-bought ones either. A must try. On Saturdays, the store offers freshly made Taiwanese style breakfast. They are quite decent. We've tried the onion pancake, pan-fried buns with cabbage and egg, steamed pork buns, Chinese donut, black pepper pastry, curry & bbq pork pastries. They are all pretty good. A nice start to a Saturday. Also try their fresh soymilk, clean and not overly sweet like store-bought ones. I felt I was back in Taiwan with those breakfast. Overall, a good store. It's a family own business, everyone is quite friendly. Do go early during Saturday morning if you want breakfast. read more

Totally worth a trip to Bellevue to take home some of their dim-sum treats. My wife and I like the rice balls with pork inside. Egg custards are tasty and rich as are the steamed pork buns. Haven't gotten brave to try the tofu dishes but ya never know. Service is what you's expect but its really a take out place so service doesn't matter to me so much in this type of place. read more

I had to come here after hearing that there was fresh Chinese donuts... I came today and decided to come earlier before the stated opening time of 9am because I was ready to wait to get my fresh Chinese donuts. To my surprise when I arrived at 840am it was already open and there were 4-5 customers already lining up to buy the goods! The line up was quick. I bought the following: Rice bowl (had rice, 2 pieces of broccoli, an egg, some cut up pieces of meat and 1 tofu puff) $6 - I felt for the rice this was a bit expensive. If it was $5 I would feel better about such a simple dish. I would give it also 3.5-4/5 because there was more rice than meat/egg/ veggies. Chinese Donut $1.50 - This was freshly made so it tasted good but it felt like it could have been more fluffy. I have had better in China and Vancouver. I would give it 4.5/5 for being the United States/ Seattle area where it is hard to find a place that makes it fresh like this AND that the size of it sort of matches the price charged. Northwest Tofu makes Chinese donuts but is tiny and expensive when compared to Tofu 101. But if I were to compare it to China and Vancouver, I would rate this place closer to 3/5. But if you are missing Chinese donuts in Seattle and want a good price - I would recommend coming here. Tofu poach $4 - I really like it! 5/5 but the portion is small for the price. hot soymilk $1.80 - For a small cup- pricey. Maybe buy the jug of soy milk there instead. It was on the less sweet side which is good though. 4/5 for taste but price affects my rating for this. mustard green and pork steam bun $1.75 - a bit pricey but for Seattle good enough. It is only good when fresh though - 4/5 when fresh. Purple rice roll $3.95 - I only picked this up because this is their famous roll. It was good to my surprise but not enough stuffing inside and too much rice. 4/5 for the taste and proportion of stuffing. *note: There was tax on top of all these prices. Also another time I had the almond tofu pudding- $2.25 (I think) it was okay but the almond flavor wasn't strong enough for me. I also needed to add a bit more sugar. It was smooth but I wouldn't get this again. 3/5 So overall, I would say the prices are a bit steep for the quality but seeing that there is not much competition in the area, I can see why they priced it that way. If you need some satisfaction for the dishes, yes come here and take home but if you are expecting to be blown away (after having been in Asia or Vancouver) then you may need an adjustment of expectations. Overall for what foods I chose today, I would give a 4/5 for this place. I would return here but after I get my paycheck. read more

Whenever I visit my dentist, I always try to drop by this place for some homemade Napa cabbage and pork dumplings, leek dumplings, steamed pork or vegetable buns, Taiwanese sausages, and occasionally soy milk. The dumplings, though a bit pricey, are really good and save me when I have my lazy cook days.. I'm not a fan of soy milk and I really wish they would make rice milk, but their in-house soy milk is pretty good. It's comforting to know there is a store like this in Washington where I can get some authentic Taiwanese breakfast items. I've tried their youtiao and as much as I dislike the oily feeling I get after eating it, theirs has the crunchy exterior and soft interior that I seek. Go to place for shao bing (sesame flatbread) and you tiao (Chinese doughnut) in the Seattle area. Best in the area unless you head up to Richmond BC. Lines are always out the door on Saturday mornings since they only serve this on Wednesdays and Saturdays. This is a little deli almost? Pick up food to-go, whether that be frozen items or ready-to-eat. My favorite thing here was probably the hot soy milk (lightly sweetened). I tried one of their pork/veggie buns, which was ok. Did not love the red bean bun or the custard tart (not the same thing as an eggtart which was what I thought it was at first). They have a lot of other things here though, so I wouldn't be opposed to coming back, but did not pick up the best items on my first visit. read more

A gem in Factoria! This will probably be my go-to place for a good, fast Taiwanese brunch. My girlfriend ordered some pastries, which were just so-so but I had the tofu skin and the purple rice roll. The tofu skin did not have much flavor but I enjoyed it still. However the purple rice roll was delicious! It was so big and filling. The crunch Chinese donut added an extra textural contrast that elevated a simple dish like this. I love the flavor of the dried pork floss infused inside as well. We came at around lunch time and the steamed buns or baos were already sold out. I guess they were that good. This place rocks - you just fall in line, get all the goodness you want and go to the cashier - cheap, fast, efficient and amazing. However, the next time I come here, I will just go straight for the purple rice roll. They did not have it on display, good thing my girlfriend saw one of the customers order it personally from the cashier. read more

I feel sad to post this review but I do feel my experience today is unacceptable and has to be addressed. First of all, I am a long time customer since this is the only place which sells fresh tofu nearby. I am from Taiwan, so I also want to support a small business run by Taiwanese. Some of the their food is good and authentic such as tofu and soy milk. I don't really like their buns or dumplings though. Anyway, a lot of complaints on yelp are about the customer service of their cashier. I was okay with it and understood not everyone has the skill or a smiley face. However, what she did today really crossed the line especially in this society. A caucasian lady in front of me seemed to had some issues when checking out. The cashier was being SUPER nice to the white lady to help out, which I had NEVER seen her being that nice to any customers. In the end, she even offered the white lady a cup of soy milk. The white lady didn't take it and told the cashier to give it to another customer. However, even though I was the next person in line, she didn't give that cup of soy milk to me or said thank you for my business as usual. At that moment, I did feel I was not treated equally because of my color. Imaging how upset I felt when discriminated by a person from my hometown with the same skin color with me. 99.9% of their customers are Asian, so you don't experience it until a white person shows up. It is such a shame being racist. I finally realize she does have the customer service skills but only to a particular group of people. read more

This is my favorite food store to pick up some easy made varieties delicious Chinese food. Whenever I don't feel like to cook, this is the place will first come to my mind. The food have creatives in different dim Sum ,buns, purple sticky rice wrap, many nutritious tofu dishes etc. It's not only delicious but also very clean. Got excited just because a NEW location selling fresh tofu made daily in the area I usually have my morning coffee. Oh how I missed my favorite food-Chinese donuts with soy bean milk. After we tasted the first thing-soft tofu with simple syrup at the store, I know I will be buying good food and serve my family and friends without any quilt. Honest people (owner couple) running business with such an integrity, you know you are in good hand including the ingredient, the process, the storage, food safety etc., etc., Come learn a thing or 2 while enjoying authentic Taiwanese food. Nice little hole-in-the-wall place filled with stuff to discover. I've only been there once (Saturday) and picked up some egg tarts and sort of a giant pan-fried meat filled dumpling that came in a bag (I think they only have them at limited times, they were near the register). Although they might be authentic I don't think I'll get any more of the egg tarts, I'd like the ones from Regent next door better, but the bagged pan-fried dumpling things were good. I'm a HUGE fan of anything made of soy beans so I was SUPER excited to learn there's an authentic Taiwanese deli near Home. I got several items and have mixed feelings about this place. - Braised tofu - you can tell it's made in house, I like the texture and freshness of the tofu. Unfortunately seasoning is lacking so it's kind of bland. Thank goodness for soy sauce and sesame oil. - braised hundred-sheet tofu - Star of my selection. I was going to save it as appetizer for a couple meals, but I ended up finishing it as snack the night I got it lol and I'm going back for more. - minced pork over rice - really bland. Again this should be a savory, signature Taiwanese delicacy but it's just rather tasteless to me. Even I make better minced pork (and I'm a bad cook). - unsweetened soy milk - it's made the traditional way, profound soy flavors. Not bad for the price considering it's made freshly. - savory sesame pastry - I was pleasantly surprised by this... it's very flavorful and even though I left it out in room temperature for 2 days before I eat it, it's still flaky and moist after I pop it in the toaster for 2min. I've heard about this before but experienced myself today: this store will charge you extra if you don't pay attention. Today we bought some breakfast items but the final price seemed high. We didn't think too much about it on the spot. When we got home and read the receipt, we noticed they charged a $6 item twice. Our bad for not paying enough attention at the checkout line. So be careful: their unethical practice of charging you more is really turning us off. Plus even though some of their food may seem reasonably priced, others are pricey and are without a clear price tag. We won't go back again and we'll surly let our friends know. read more

You pick what you want yourself and bring it to checkout, quite like the Taiwanese bakeries except with cold noodles, assorted buns, pan seared buns, zhongzi, pig ears, all the classics. This place makes best five spice bean curd in Seattle. The fresh hot soybean milk with perfect amount of sweetness. Purple rice roll is so big that more like mini log and is so favorful.
