Thunderbolt Pizza is definitely worth the hype! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is super cute, and I love that the kitchen is completely open so you can watch them make your pizza in the wood-fired oven.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is fun, and it's always busy which says a lot about how good the food is. The pizza was absolutely incredible, and it was nice to enjoy a beer or glass of wine while waiting. They also have a great selection of house-made condiments and specialty items you can purchase, which is a unique touch. I'll definitely be coming back!
Omg, just ran across an amazing pizza place close to my home. Thunderbolt Pizza is so good and I can't believe it's so close and I hadn't noticed it before now. My wife and I were trying a Thai spot when we saw great looking pizzas being brought to people at outside tables so we had to go and give it a try. So glad we did. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is pretty cool and bigger than expected. They have indoor and outdoor seating as well as some common tables in front of the entrance[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Service was good. It's an order at the front counter and take a number to your table and they bring the food to you. We went with three family members and got two different pizzas and both were so good. One was a loaded pepperoni with a hot honey sauce and the other had ricotta cheese with pepperoni and pickled jalapeños (the red ones). Absolutely delicious We also ordered fried onion rings (which I did not try as I don't do onions) and fried zucchini sticks. The sticks were very good but I was thrilled with the dip as it had dill and I should have just asked for ranch. I'm told the onion rings were very good. They came with a honey mustard sauce dipper which went great with the zucchini sticks by the way. We saw some very good looking chicken wings being served to other tables and plan to try those next time. Parking in this area can be tough at times however it's worth the effort believe me.
Fantastic pizza! Easy parking for guests if you get there early enough. Pizza is cooked to perfection! Perfect chew on the crust, think and crispy. One of the best pizzas I've had in a while! Great quality and made to order by the pie or by the slice. Service was nice and the counter and friendly and helpful at the table. We had a pretty good meal at Thunderbolt Pizza. The Jay's Staple was amazing,v the red sauce and the toppings were so flavorful, loved it! The NYC White was just meh, the white sauce didn't have a lot of it and there was nothing really else on the pizza to carry it. The sides were solid too, we liked both the zucchini sticks and the onion rings, but surprisingly the zucchini sticks were definitely our favorite out to the two. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service was fast, and the ambience wasn't bad.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'd love to go back and try the pesto sauce pizza along with the Jay's Staple again (I promise it's not because it has my name in it, haha). 5/5 - Jay's Staple Pizza: red sauce, grande mozzarella, mushrooms, red onion, finished with fresh basil, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. 3/5 - NYC White: mozzarella, ricotta, garlic, and cracked black pepper.
Thunderbolt Pizza in Long Beach has become my go-to pizzeria. After trying a wide range of their menu, two dishes stand out above the rest: the Pizza Margherita and the Garlic Knots. Pizza Margherita - 5/5. This is a perfect example of the care and craft that go into their food. The crust strikes a rare balance - it has that signature leopard-spotted char and slight floppiness you'd expect from a Neapolitan-style pizza, but also delivers the chewiness and airy structure of a great New York-style slice. It never tips too far into being overly crispy or dry. What really sets it apart, though, is the sauce. While many pizzerias treat sauce as an afterthought, Thunderbolt clearly does not. Their tomato sauce is rich, vibrant, and juicy, with a depth of flavor that avoids being overly acidic, salty, or tannic. It enhances the pizza beautifully without overshadowing the dough, which is exactly how it should be. Garlic Knots - 5/5. - Easily some of the best I've had anywhere in LA. These are essentially bread rolls with a super chewy interior and a thin, lightly crusty exterior, served alongside their excellent marinara sauce. They're incredibly satisfying and consistently a crowd favorite. I've brought visitors from Japan, Germany, and New York, and every single one of them couldn't stop talking about these knots. My only small critique is that I wish they had used fresh garlic instead of canned, which would have taken them to an even higher level. Still, even as they are, they're outstanding. Overall, Thunderbolt Pizza delivers thoughtful, high-quality food that stands out in a crowded pizza scene. It's the kind of place you keep coming back to--not just because it's good, but because it's consistently memorable.
Delicious pizzas! I've had Thunderbolt's pizzas a few times by ordering from Ambitious Ales next door. It's fantastic that they have this arrangement and a great way to have their pizza alongside great beer!
Honestly, pretty solid pizza. We got the honey pepperoni (forgive me, forgot the technical menu name) and the mozzarella sticks. First - why is it so hard to find mozzarella sticks on a menu at a pizzeria???? We were ECSTATIC when we noticed them, and weren't disappointed. Ordering was easy, the food came out quick, hot, and delicious. We'd easily be back.
[[HIGHLIGHT]]Thunderbolt Pizza is PACKED on the weekends and they have super limited seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We went to the brewery next door and I guess it's common to order takeout pizza from Thunderbolt to eat there. While I can't say I recommend or would come back, I did like their sweet and spicy pizza. I think everything else was a miss. I also feel like most of the pizzas we had were burnt but it might also be intentional. Our appetizers were cold (mozzarella sticks and onion rings), probably because they were made way before the pizza was ready. We were waiting an hour or more for the pizza so I do feel like my review is harsher as it was not worth the wait. So, always call ahead if you can so that you don't have to wait for takeout.
I have seen MANY people talk about the infamous sandwich here. Me and my husband finally went. We got the sandwich and a size of onion rings. The sandwich was REALLY good, so tasty! The onion rings were yummy too. Next time we go back we will try the pizza as well as the wings, which looked delicious when we saw them at another table.
Continues to be really good NY style pizza in Bixby Knolls. I did a carryout order in person, to take back to the nearby Ambitious Ales biergarten. A large 16" cheese pizza for $17, adding good quality pepperoni ($4) and pineapple ($1.50). Like how they charge different prices for a topping based on their cost, though would have gladly paid more for a lot more pineapple (it was pretty skimpy this time). The cheese was sparse (which isn't uncommon with NY style), and the sauce was excellent: flavorful, bit zesty, and enough to make it pronounced but not enough to make the crust soggy. The crust was worth eating down to the last bite, and the entire pizza was finished by the three of us. I was surprised, but as I should have known, really good thin crust pizza is hard to put down.
Finally tried the raving ITALIAN SUB served only during lunch. I can't believe other pizza parlors aren't doing the same for their business. It's basically a pizza dough bread wrapped with submarine essentials and deli meat. BRILLIANT and 5-STARS DELICIOUS. I also ordered the SWEET AND SPICY PIZZA and it is VERY GOOD (doing the Italian hand expression). I would order this again as well. Wished I lived near, but my next stop will have to wait until I am nearby.

This is my 200th review!!! Parking is another thing to keep in mind. The lot is pretty small, so if it's busy you'll probably need to park on the street. Stopped by this pizza spot and overall had a really good experience. The thin crust pizza was definitely the highlight--crispy, light, and flavorful without feeling too heavy. I ordered mine with the white sauce instead of the usual red. I'm not exactly sure what it was made of, but it turned out to be really good and paired nicely with the toppings. The ranch on the side was a little watery, which wasn't great, but the pizza itself made up for it. The inside of the restaurant was clean and had a nice, casual vibe. It felt comfortable enough for a dinner date, though not overly fancy. The service was okay--friendly and attentive enough, though nothing over the top. One small downside was that they didn't have ice for drinks, which was a little disappointing during dinner. Overall, I'd say this is a solid spot for lunch or a casual dinner. If you love pizza, you'll enjoy it--but even if you're not a huge pizza fan, this place is worth checking out because the thin crust and lighter style make it easy to enjoy. read more

I'm writing this review still full, sitting on my couch in a pizza-induced bliss, questioning nothing except why I didn't come here sooner, and also that i should've stopped eating two pizza slices ago. First off, the staff? Super friendly. Like the kind of friendly where you're pretty sure if your car broke down, they'd help push it while handing you a slice. Now, let's talk about the Sweet and Spicy Pizza. That hot honey drizzle? LIFE-CHANGING. It's the spicy-sweet combo I never knew. The hot wings? Perfect spice. Crunchy like they're wearing armor, dipped in ranch like they're ready to go to flavor war. I don't know what kind of wizardry they use in that kitchen, but I salute them Oh, and I got the Caesar salad too--because, balance. Gotta throw some greens in there so I can pretend I'm making responsible life choices. It was actually super tasty and made me feel 3% healthier after inhaling an entire pizza. No regrets. ZERO. Another great little spot in LB. If you're in the mood for some pizza this is the spot. I absolutely love the $10 personal pizza. You get to choose up to three toppings. I did take out and my total bill was $11.02. Way better than the big chains like blaze. It's honestly the right size for 1 person. Everytime im in the area and craving pizza this is my go to spot. This place is great for pizza. We got the rustic adventure. Unfortunately they ran out of pancetta which seems odd since they just opened up. But it is what it is. The beer selection and wine selection is good. They have high outdoor seating and patio. The food came fairly quickly and it was very delicious and light and not greasy. The staff was super nice and had our orders in a timely manner. The chopped and sliced salad was decent with the vinaigrette we got. Overall a good lunch place to hangout. read more

Went with my mom the other day to have lunch. They have great lunch deals, very affordable, easy to park. The pizza is like a Neapolitan style, light dough, clean char. The staff were all very nice and helpful and checked in on us a couple of times. The pricing was very accessible and the quality and options were great. Pretty accessible spot to get to. We parked on the street [[HIGHLIGHT]]Plenty of seeing, down to earth atmosphere as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The joint is wheel chair accessible and has its access inspected and passed! The girl in the front wasn't the most friendly but she was patient with us not having had already planned out what we were planning to purchase. Everyone else was absolutely wonderful. Attentive, kind and made sure everything was to our expectations. Loved our experience! As for the food.. WOW! This was by far the best pizza I have had the opportunity to enjoy in a LONG time! The pepperoni was crispy and flavorful, the fries paired amazingly with the lovely herb ranch they provided.. their crust is cooked to perfection! Everything we ordered was so good! Using the pizza dough as fresh baked bread with plenty of dressing, meat, cheese, and veggies gave me one of the best Italians I have had. I use to come here for the pizza, but now I will be coming for the Italian more often. ORDER THIS. - Hot and Spicy (9.5/10): The goto for my wife and I. Perfectly cooked. Dollops of creamy ricotta. A drizzle of hot honey over curled pepperonis makes this a pizza we drool over. - The hot pepper flakes: Thunderbolt uses some unique pepper flake blends and I can never use just normal red pepper flakes anymore. You can order them from Amazon or I think buy from there. Review: We have ordered from Thunderbolt often over the past year since we discovered it. The pizzas are always cooked perfectly. The crew are super friendly. They always go above and beyond with whatever we need. Inside is not the biggest so you might have a wait on a busy night. We tend to order to go often. My absolute favorite pizza spot in Long Beach. The pizza is so flavorful and they have tons of options to choose from, plus great lunchtime specials that I love. The staff is super friendly and the service is top tier. They also have TVs, outdoor seating, and a covered patio if you prefer to sit outside. Is it cozy as reported by Yelp? Idk, but I sure feel cozy eating Thunderbolt pizza after drinking some beers at Ambitious Ales. You can conveniently order from Ambitious using their QR code and they'll deliver the food right to you. I mean, what could possibly be better? I've had their fair share of pizzas, but I recently ordered the Old Skool BKLYN ($26.00 for a 16") and it was absolute fire. The sliced mozzarella is placed under the sauce making it an upside pie. It's then topped with fresh Avoria fresh mozzarella, Ezzo's pepperoni, pepperoncinis peppers and topped with basil and olive oil. The pie is salty, spicy, and oh so cheesy. The wings are also quite good ($14.00 for 8). Their wings are tossed in a house-made sauce that's delightfully smokey and pairs perfectly with the ranch. If you're looking for something...refreshing (?), I do like the zucchini sticks. The zucchini are cut to resemble sticks, breaded, then fried. It makes for a break between bites of pizza and wings. Highly recommend ordering these on their own if you're just looking for a snack. Thunderbolt is a solid pizza joint. read more

Updated review. Decided to get some pizza and some fried zucchini for dinner along with some white wine. You have to order up front prior to sitting down. After paying, they give you a number where they deliver your food. Tipping is optional at the time of payment. At least for me, there no way you can give a tip unless you have tasted the food and experienced some type or service. Received our wine first which by the way tasted great! It was just right with a smooth chill of brisk. Received our zucchini and then our pizza. I ordered the works pizza and it truly delivered. All tasted well and the service was friendly. Last time I came here was on a holiday. It was packed and lacked service. Today was like day and night. Since it was not crowded it felt more intimate. Good place for drinks and pizza. Ambiance is comfortable. I recommend. read more

I've tried their pizza before and it was really good. I came back again to try their Italian sub, heard it was really good on social media. Had no trouble finding parking, they had a lot and street parking all around. There was a long line when I went but it was worth the wait cause the sandwich was so good. Bread they used was actual pizza crust and it was warm and toasty. The cold cuts, cheese, and veggies were fresh and the portion was huge. Can easily feed two people! read more

I got the lunch deal, of a 10" pizza for $10. Along with the cheese bread, for lunch. This place has been recommended a lot, so I was excited to try. We were in the neighborhood on Saturday and had been wanting to try them; so my daughter and I saw they had a special on their daily board that appealed to us. We were walking so we did not have to deal with parking. There are numerous businesses in that corner building structure, so the parking lot is down the street. We ordered the personal 3 topping pizza for $10 to split for a an afternoon snack. The restaurant itself was a little chaotic as they are a very popular spot for dine in, pick up and take out, and it is small and a bit cluttered with servers running, tchotchkes and various pantry items for sale on stands throughout. The couple of tables inside were taken so we happily took a table outside on the patio. We noticed that everything was rather grimy - the tables, the windowsills inside with lots of clutter, the ordering station and bathroom. However, our pizza, when delivered to the table was beautiful and delectable! We wished we had splurged for on a larger one. We did not order drinks or other food, but our order arrived with two small wood plates and a couple of napkins, no silverware. We didn't need it, but it just seemed odd. There was a selection of different ground peppers on the table to use. We got chicken, mushrooms and red onion as our toppings. The red sauce was thinly applied, and just a little cheese, but it was not too salty and the chicken was shredded, not cubed, which made it evenly spread over the pizza. I would have preferred a bit more cheese and some more herbs to jazz up the flavor a bit, so we used a little of the ground pepper shaker, but the crust was the standout. Perfectly made, a somewhat thin crust with puffy edges and just the right balance of crispy and pillowy sections. Everything tasted fresh. We will return again to try other dishes because it was so good, and they always have a deal on menu items or a special. read more

Thunderbolt has quickly become my favorite pizza spot! You can taste the quality ingredients in every bite. You are hooked from the first bite and just when you think it's over, you end it with crust deliciousness! So good! I've only ordered this pizza while having a beer at the brewery next door. There's a QR code at every table at the brewery and they run your pizza order to your table, so cool and convenient. Service is quick and friendly. I'm looking forward to eating this pizza at their actual location and will follow up with a review. For now, do yourself a favor and try this place out. They have lunch specials daily (including weekends) 11:30am-4pm and includes a personal 10" pizza with up to 3 toppings for $10! What a deal! This is my go-to order when I go without the fam and it is enough for a fat boy like myself. I haven't even started talking about their wings but this review has gotten too long. lol...wings are another hit but can't wait to try more items from their menu. Great service on a busy Friday evening. Ample seating arrangement both in and outdoor seating. Food was served quickly. Bixby Butcher was an assorted meat pizza. Solid portion of toppings. Overall great pizza, no complaints. Hot wings are not your standard buffalo wings, had rather tangy flavor. If I had to guess some sort of pickle brine or heavy on the dill. Tasty nonetheless. Great overall experience. Will return to try more of their specialty options. read more

I rolled in with my bro Anthony and we ordered the Hot Honey Pizza (Large). From the moment that first slice hit my mouth, I knew something special was happening. The crust? Sausage, fennel, ricotta pizza! Fire!!! I always tell everyone this is one of the best pizza spots if not the best in Long Beach. The fermented dough is unbeatable and no other pizza spot has an adornment of spicy peppers and a quality Parmesan to sprinkle ontop! They also increased their beer game and it's not all IPA thank goodness! The Pilsner they have currently is on point!!!!!! The only thing to make it more perfect would be a Belgian style beer on tap or that rosetta cherry beer or both!!!! read more

I tried this place with a few of my coworkers. I got the lunch special. It came with a personal pizza, and I got a Coke to drink. You get three toppings, so I made it a meat lovers pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and bacon. I recommend giving this place a try. read more
Ok, where to start!? This will be my second time here in a week lol. First things first. - they have a private parking lot which is great and they have a covered patio that is dog friendly (they have heaters as well in the covered patio) I met a great friend of mine a few days ago here, they had the door open but wasn't officially open yet (they were still Setting up, they were opening in about 7 minutes) I went up and asked if it's ok I go inside and wait for my friend. They let me in and I sat down in their covered patio. My friend got there shortly after. Our waitress was super friendly, brought out waters and even a huge pitcher of water and then took our order. (The second time I came everything was set up and had a sign at the cash register saying to order there and then they bring your food. Also, water is self serve. I had no idea! And I'm so sorry to the waitress who took care of us and was too friendly to tell us to get up and go get our own water and order / pay at the register when you first walk in) We ordered two pizzas. One with pesto and chicken. And the margherita pizza. Everything was delicious! I loved the pizza, I loved the service and I had zero complaints I came here a second time with family a couple days later. Emily took care of us and she was so great!!! We walked in and noticed the sign saying to order at the register. (Behind the register you can see the pizzas being made in their awesome Wood fire oven) We ended up getting the NYC white pie. Which was delicious and had cracked pepper on it. We also got an order of garlic knots and mozzarella sticks. We also got sides of ranch which tasted like they make it in house with tons of dill. The sauce for the garlic knots and mozzarella sticks was delicious as well. Also, bonus points for how fast our food came out (on both visits here) We paid and took our number to our table and sat ourselves. Emily was so great. Her personality and smile was contagious! She kept complimenting my nails and was sooo friendly. When our food came out I instantly started taking photos, which I always get shy and embarrassed when a worker sees me doing this lol. But Emily was allllll about it! Saying to put it on yelp, instagram and everywhere. So it was great I had someone hyping me up lol. I absolutely loved Emily. I hope management sees this and sees how amazing she is. I think it's safe to say Food- 5 stars Service -5 stars Variety of pizza and sides / appetizers 5 stars the fact they are dog friendly 5 stars Great parking 5 stars The prices are really reasonable as well. Our large pizza was 20 dollars - 5 stars for price They do serve beer and wine They have vegan options Also, the crust on this pizza is amazing. It's perfectly cooked in their wood fire oven. It also says that it is Brooklyn style. Which explains why I love it so much. It's a great slice of New York pizza without all the grease. It really is cooked to perfection. Honestly shocked this place doesn't have five stars! As a regular here, it is always packed and have never seen anybody leave unhappy. This is the best pizza spot in town. They have a variety of vegan options that DONT have nasty, rubbery vegan cheese. If you know you know. They have cashew cheese which has a great flavor profile, melts and the texture isn't off putting. Did I mention the dough is hand tossed and freshly made in a brick oven?? Yes! No frozen dominos type pizza here. The flavors for the pizza are interesting and most likely something you haven't seen before so don't be afraid to experiment. If you want something basic there, margarita is a classic that you can't go wrong with. Beyond the pizza, my family keeps coming back for the rosemary fries. They use Fresh rosemary so it's very fragrant. Their garlic knots are a game changer. I simply ask them to remove the Parmesan to keep it plant based. Soft and doughy on the inside, crispy and baked on the outside. YUM! Top it off with a glass of wine and you will be coming back every week like me! The staff is very friendly and the store manager will make sure you are taken care of! The only downside I will say is they do get really busy so be mindful you may be waiting 2030 minutes for a pizza. Be patient with the staff. Found this place online as I was craving pizza. This place is a Vibe ! When we walked in, the host greeted us immediately. It was so cute, lively and warm. I already looked at the menu online so had some good ideas of what we wanted. We ordered the arugula & mozz salad, you're so cheesy & 16 inch BBQ chicken pizza. We decided to dine in so we sat inside , tables readily available. Football on for my husband which is always a plus. The salad came so fast and looked so delicious. I'm not a big mushroom fan but honestly didn't taste them at all. They were raw, the mozz overpowered them and it was very tasteful. Every bite. Within 15 minutes our cheesy bread and pizza came. I'm pretty picky when it comes to pizza and honestly this exceeded my expectations. Everything was delicious. The house made ranch is worth every penny. I'll buy a gallon. We will be back. Craving some Monday night pizza and came across Thunderbolts. Pizza was great overall. It was very very spicy after a few bites. It's actually my preference of level of spicy but my fam did not like it as much as me. As for the crust it was burnt which I actually like. Yes, we have our lunch specials every day except Mondays because on Mondays, we don’t open until 4PM.
Is the patio available for reservations for a group of 30?
It's best to call ahead to see if it can be accommodated.
Will you be open today for Memorial Day?
Yes! Since it's Monday though, we will not be open until 4pm per usual.
What are your lunch hours for sandwiches?
Tuesday through Sunday 11:30 until 4:30! Monday we don't open until 4pm so we do not offer sandwiches on Monday.

When will you bring your Stromboli back? It was so amazing - and nobody carries them!
Hey Will! That’s a tough question. Stromboli’s wreak havoc on the floor of our oven and with the amount of pizza we make, it’s been difficult to bring them back so we can accommodate the pizza lovers. Give us a beat to figure it out.

No but it's 100000% worth picking it up. Don't forget the Ranch it's homemade
Do you still have the fig pizza?
Yes we do. The fig pizza is called "We be jamming!"
