This hotel is a nice hotel when in Seattle because it is relatively close to the Amazon pet headquarters and meeting rooms. The Thompson is a Hyatt brand now and has a very cool rooftop bar for ambiance. I have stayed at the The Thompson on past trips to see our Amazon buyer. I especially like the proximity of this hotel, being smack dab in the middle of Pike Place Market and if you are a Hyatt member you can also use points to pay for this hotel stay. So going to the market and carrying home bags of fruit or treats that you pick up at the market does not break your back as it's not too far back to the room. Rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and offer free Wi-Fi, and flat-screens, as well as rainfall showers and designer toiletries. The Thompson is always a contender when coming to Seattle on business and I'm sure I will be staying here again soon read more

I have to say this was not what I was expecting. The photos you see on the website and hotel sites that show floor to ceiling windows in a condo style of living was a far stretch from the small dark, no view, dorm style furniture room I stayed in. To top it off the main reason for staying was the rooftop bar which was closed for a private event afternoon and evening of our stay. And that private event as well as others using the rooftop bar the next day clogged up the poorly design elevator system for their guess constantly. 2 small elevators for the rooftop bar and all its hotel guests didn't work very efficiently. The pluses are location, which can't be beat. The bathroom was modern and sleek. Service was very friendly and professional (with the exception of the man assigned to check the mini bar who chose to ignore the do not disturb sign and knock and knock until I opened the door to ask him to come back as I pointed at the do not disturb sign). Unless you pay for a premium room with a view it's not worth the price as their basic room can easily be bested at other area hotels for a nicer room or cheaper price. read more

My husband had surprised me with a night at the Thompson for my birthday this past weekend. I was very impressed as soon as we got there. The valet greeted us promptly and helped me out of the car with my bags and guided us inside of the hotel. All the staff there were tentative, friendly and upbeat at every encounter. The concierge knew we were there for my birthday and recommended tons of places to go for a drink or snacks while we were there overnight. When we got to our room, there was a nice little surprise with a birthday card, a bottle of champagne and their in house made snacks. Overall, I was blown away with their hospitality and amazing service they provided us as soon as we pulled up til the moment we left. Oh! 3.5 stars. My family and I stayed here over a long weekend last week. For reference, we stayed in room 404. Pros: - excellent location, a block from Pike Place and easy to walk to the Space Needle and surrounding areas/museums. - lots of retail and restaurants to walk to - cool rooftop bar with one of the best views of Seattle - hip, younger crowd Cons: - the rooms were pretty basic. I expected a little more from a Thompson, thinking it would be more sleek in design; it was not. The design actually looked dated though the hotel is pretty new. - except for Scout, service was aloof at best, abysmal at worst. Front desk was business as usual, valet and the people who buzz people up for the rooftop seemed so bored and disengaged. None of the valet/bellhop opened the doors or greeted us one time during our stay. - surprises to see a daily $15 charge on top of everything we already paid. When I asked what this was for, I was told it was for hotel amenities such as coffee and tea service (which I didn't see at all the entire time), among others. Total rip-off. I really wanted to love this place as it seemed to be the hippest and newest Seattle hotel; however, I will probably stat elsewhere next time. read more

Seems like people are mixed on this swanky hotel. You can't get much closer to Pike Place Market so there's one reason for their high premium. We scored a $440 room for $180 (including taxes) using one of those last minute hotel room sites. The room itself is "high-end" with lots of attention to detail. The TV remote sucks and we couldn't get the TV image out of a funky mode, it was like every show/movie was shot with a home video camera. But the most frustrating part was trying to get the Art Deco style desk lamp to work when we really needed it, we just couldn't figure it out. The bathroom was quite attractive with an invigorating waterfall shower head. And I appreciated the little nuances like how the water drains, sink knobs, etc. Be warned: the room is small, especially considering that you're dropping four Benjamin's at retail. The front desk team and door guys were quite amicable, no attitude like others had experienced. I have a chip with almost all Downtown hotels: they're just rip-offs. Check-in at 4:00 pm, go out for meetings and meals, sleep for seven hours, check-out by 11:00 am. How much time do you actually spend in the room? Oh, and there's usually an outrageous overnight parking fee. Employee expense accounts allow for it so the ridiculous cycle continues. My commentary that you didn't ask for is free. read more

We celebrated a milestone birthday along with 25 friends and family on the rooftop at the Thompson Seattle, and we had a glorious time. The hotel catered the event and the food was delicious, including especially the shrimp cocktail, sushi, vegetarian sliders, steak skewers and shiitake rolls. We stayed at the hotel as well in a spectacular ADA suite with sweeping views of Elliott Bay: I use a wheelchair and the hotel provided every needed accommodation for my disability. All the hotel staff, each and every one of them, were always extraordinarily helpful, providing assistance and service with professional excellence. The Thompson Seattle is simply the perfect place to create lifetime memories. Located near Pike Place Market we enjoyed an afternoon at the nearby Seattle Art Museum and our grandkids loved seeing the otters at the Seattle Aquarium a short walk from the hotel. An absolutely chic, modern hotel in the best location in Seattle. The rooms are outfitted with stylish accents and motifs. You are also a literal stones throw away from Pike Place Market. I had a quick trip in and I was really happy with my quick stay at this hotel. I am usually toting a small dog with me as I was this trip and they were really great with both me and my pup. The room was very nice, shower pressure great, quiet and comfortable room and I slept so good on my first night although I have read some complain about noise. I had none. The free coffee in the morning and the gracious and accomodating staff really made the quick stay pleasant. Particularly in this era of covid and restrictions. Not living in a state of restrictions, I found people in Seattle appear to act quite a bit more unpleasant or seem unhappy, but when I got back to the hotel I didn't get that sense at all. Also, if the Public market downtown Seattle experience is what you are looking for, this location can't be beat. read more

For how much these rooms cost per night, the space is pretty underwhelming. I can't emphasize enough that the ONLY redeeming quality is that it's a block from Pike Place (if that's a good thing to you). Our view is of the residential building across the courtyard (read: there is NO VIEW--see my photo). If you plan on booking here and it's going to cost the usual rate of $300-400/night, I highly advise you make sure you're getting a room with a view, otherwise this would be a sad, sad room to have spent that much money on. Valet/parking is somewhere around $50/night. We parked at pike place public parking for $30/24 hrs; it's just a couple blocks away. I refuse to spend $50/night for a rental car. $30/night is still painful. Nothing else worth noting, unfortunately. Though I must say the employees seem genuinely friendly. read more

I proposed at the Thompson hotel over the weekend and went up to the Nest afterwards where I had my Fiancé's friends all waiting at a table to celebrate. The staff went above and beyond to help me organize and bring my plan to life. Vanessa and Jennifer in particular was really thoughtful and helpful the night of. Everything I asked for was delivered so quick and everyone was on their game with impressive service We got the Thompson suite and it was breathtaking. Stayed here once over the winter for a show in downtown Seattle, loved it so much we booked a room with a water view for our son and his GF because he was taking her to Seattle to propose. We contacted The Thompson before booking to confirm it was okay to pay in full for our son's stay. They confirmed it was and stated they would send us credit card authorization papers via email to complete the process. After 2 days with no email I contacted them and had to started from square one but finally got the papers emailed to me while I was on the phone with them. Weeks later at check in they required my son to provide a credit card, fine but then they charged his card for the stay so not only was he in a panic seeing this charge as this place is way outside of his price range he now knew how much we paid for his stay too! I had to call yet again to get this resolved and was initially informed that they never received our authorization papers so I had to be handed off to a manager who did confirm they received the paper work but the employee who received them didn't actually process them. The manager apologized but in no other way offered any compensation, at the very least they could have offered to compensate the $68 they charge for a single night of parking. At $500 a night I expected more and will absolutely no longer be booking here. read more

I have stayed at most of the Hyatts in Seattle and a Hyatt promotion enticed me to try Thompson Hotel as a new brand. The hotel is in a great location overlooking Pike Place market and the Sound. From the hotel you can walk to the conference center in 10mins or shop in the nearby boutiques. There are endless eating options. Stroll along the waterfront and eat delicious seafood or nibble cookies, ice cream, crumpets and Beecher's delicious local cheese or stay at the hotel and enjoy the onsite restaurant and bar As a World of Hyatt member, I was pleased to be greeted with the usual Hyatt courtesy and attentiveness. Anthony checked me in to an upgraded suite and explained the amenities, which include strong wifi, free - I assume to WOH members. My suite has partial water views through solid, floor-to-ceiling windows which are almost sound proof. I can see the back of the neon sign for Pike Place Public Market Center from my window. I have my own swanky seating area and two bathrooms. I feel like royalty and barely know what to do with myself! Thanks for hosting me, Thompson! I will be back. read more

I have mixed feelings about the Thompson Seattle, and here's why. On the one hand, it's in a great location in the heart of downtown, close to all the local tourist attractions, shopping, and restaurants you could desire. It also has funkier decor than you'll find in your average hotel, with velvet sofas, blue leather ottomans, and modern (and fun) artwork in the lobby and the guest rooms. The staff were also helpful, friendly and accommodating. When running late for an event it was no problem for them to nicely box up our breakfasts to take with us, or have our car waiting for us when we got downstairs. But on the flipside, I'm not sure if the windows are single pane or the hotel is just really poorly insulated but the rooms were both hot and very noisy (even well into the night). Sirens and trucks kept me awake, along with the loud drone and bangs from the air conditioner which wasn't up to the task of cooling the room below 78 degrees. I also found the beds to be very hard and uncomfortable, which isn't a problem if you like a firmer mattress, but after the short amount of sleep I got, I woke up with hip, shoulder and neck pain. While I quite liked the black and white tiled bathrooms, there was no tub and the lighting was very dark, making it difficult to apply makeup without looking like a circus clown. The towels are also very small and thin, which is great for using as a hair towel but not much else. If you book months in advance you may be able to get rates closer to $199 a night, but if you're booking only weeks in advance expect the best available rate (with AAA discount) to be closer to $599 a night. The rooftop bar 'Nest' has a great view of The Sound, and mixes a decent drink, so in summation, if you can get a good rate and aren't a light sleeper the Thompson might be the hotel for you, otherwise I'd pick a different downtown hotel. read more

What a terribly disappointing experience. I booked this hotel for a relaxing evening with a bit of luxury and some beautiful views. When I arrived at 8 pm at the hotel I was getting by a gruff concierge who said that the restaurant and rooftop bar were closed and if I wanted food I'd have to get delivery. I asked if I could go up to the rooftop to see the view and was told no. That was my whole reason for booking this hotel and there is nothing mentioned on the website about the rooftop being closed. I then ordered food via door dash, it was delivered to the front desk at 8:30 pm and had to wait another 20 minutes for it to be delivered to the room. In the morning, I went down to the restaurant conversation to have breakfast and was told their system was down - the restaurant was in chaos and everything took three times as long. Instead of shielding the guests from this stress the staff let it fully be shared with/felt by the guests. It wasn't a relaxing or enjoyable experience. When I told the concierge she shrugged and said normally I'd offer something but you booked through a third party. Such poor customer service. Don't waste your money here. read more

We stayed the last couple nights here and it was great! The hotel is nice and modern, staff were great ( bellman with hair slicked back...sorry, didn't get his name ) and the view from our room!! I used my Amex to book and pay for the room and was offered a free upgrade. Best thing about this hotel is also the distance to everything. 2 blocks from Pikes Market, Post Alley etc... I'm taking 1 star because the room is a little small and no fan in the bathroom. All in all, I would still stay here again. read more

STAY AWAY from this hotel. We were excited when we first arrived because the location is perfect for all the things we want to do in Seattle, but that's the only thing good about it. Here are two things that are absolute deal breakers: NO HOUSEKEEPING. You have to "opt in" to get your room cleaned. Even after we opted in on the first day, absolutely no one cleaned our room in our 4-night stay here. We would ask the front desk every morning to confirm that we have cleaning, they'd say yes and then we come back from the day with our room untouched. Sheer disappointment. We are pretty clean people by the way; we tidy up before we go and we even make our own bed-- is it too much to ask for fresh towels and an empty trash can? Especially for a room that's about $500 a night? We ended up asking for new towels sent up every night. It's so ridiculous and I've never had to do this with any hotel ever in my entire life. So frustrating and frankly, unacceptable at this price range. And to add salt to this weird wound, we see other rooms on our floor being cleaned on our way out in the morning! I really have no idea why we are singled out to get this terrible treatment and ignored. Should we have pulled a "karen" and made a bigger stink about this, instead of politely asking every morning?! NOISE LEVEL. Walls are paper thin. I could hear conversations from the next room over, hear them take a shower, and do their business. But that's not even the worst part! They use split a/c which doesn't get that cold, and it has an intermittent gurgling sound through the day and night. As a result, we have not had a good night's sleep during our entire stay. Frankly, we should have just left after the 2nd night (when we realized the first night isn't a fluke and we were willing to give them a chance) but we were too tired to find another place elsewhere. We've already unpacked. Ugh. Lesson learned. TL;DR, if you want to sleep comfortably and have very basic housekeeping service -- essential things that a hotel should be able to provide, this is NOT the hotel for you. Don't let the hipster looks fool you; I've had better stays at a roadside Holiday Inn to be honest. read more

We stayed for one night at the Thompson as a mini-staycation to celebrate our anniversary and thought the overall experience was disappointing, particularly for a room that cost over $500 per night. We booked a water view room and were placed on the 7th floor, but the water views were partially obstructed by buildings across the street. I think you'd need to be at least on the 8th floor to have a full water view. (There also isn't much privacy with the floor-to-ceiling windows since there were people on the roof deck on the building across the street that could clearly see in.) We weren't too upset by that since we were excited to check out the rooftop bar Nest, but then we were told that Nest was closed for the entire evening for a private event! It's not exactly the hotel's fault but I wish we had received some kind of notification beforehand, especially since we were only there for one night and going to Nest before dinner was one of the reasons we wanted to try out the Thompson in the first place. The main issue though was the noise levels! As others have mentioned, the AC units in the rooms seem old and are very noisy. They would turn on and off every 5 minutes and made whirring/clicking noises - it also did not cool the room consistently so we kept waking up sweating. Further, the walls had poor sound insulation and we were woken up numerous times in the middle of the night from street noise and sirens, as well as doors closing in the hallways. We had planned to have a lazy morning and grab breakfast in the area, but we woke up so exhausted that we checked out early ~9 AM and just took a car home. Overall, it was underwhelming. The room, views, amenities, etc. are all things we are flexible about, but having a good night's sleep should be the minimum requirement for a hotel at this price point - we couldn't wait to get home to actually get some rest. read more

We stayed at the Thompson last weekend. The hotel is great, but get ready to be ridiculously overcharged on fees. 1. One cocktail at the Nest was about $20. That is because they force you to tip almost $4 per drink. No way in hell I would tip $4 per drink, that is insane. I think my Sazeracs were $16, but like $19.82 with the forced tip. 2. We called specifically to ask about valet parking fees because we were on the fence about renting a vehicle. They told us it was $44. Well, now that I'm looking over the bill, they actually charged us $107.89 per night. I called the hotel to complain about being overcharged and the lady told me that is normal for anything bigger than a car (small SUV). Again, if they would've told us the rules, we would've rented a regular car to avoid that. Why do they charge more anyway? It still only takes up 1 parking space! I'll tell you why, they are trying to rip off their customers and sneak one by you, hoping you won't notice until it's too late. That's exactly what happened with us. Again, the hotel was nice. Rooms on the smaller side, but comfortable. If you are willing to pay all these extra fees on top of the regular hotel costs, that's up to you. I just wish I would've known as we would've stayed at the Olive 8 or Grand. read more

If you've read my review of Scout, then you have a sense how this review is going to go. The Thompson is; in a word, best described as...thirsty. They're obviously aiming to try and knock the Four Seasons off it's perch as the premier hotel in Seattle. However, they literally don't do anything as well. The rooms are smaller, and in turn feel cramped. The views are nice, but you're paying a massive premium for those views (not only in the hotel, but in their rooftop bar, Nest, as well). Staff is almost surely, and acts as if it's your privilege to stay in their hotel and be in their presence. After reading several reviews of this hotel, I have to legitimately wonder who is writing the four and five star reviews other than out of town guests with almost no Yelp presence.... There are so many luxury hotel options in Seattle, at this point, I can't say I'd consider Thompson as one of those options for me. read more

My sister booked this reservation for me as a surprise mini getaway. I'm an ICU nurse and needless to say, the last year and a half has been rough so the gesture was sweet of her but the experience was subpar. She paid a little extra for a King City Room vs the standard King Room but I wish she hadn't. Our entire view was of a brick office building so I'm not sure how this differs from the base room tier? Hard to believe they charge extra for such a nonexistent view. Additionally, she added a note to the reservation as spoke to the front desk about requesting a quiet room. We were put in a room next to the elevator AND the housekeeping closet. So all night, we heard the elevator and all morning, we heard the housekeeping door open and shut - must have been more than 40 times. Definitely not a relaxing atmosphere. Really thin walls. The front desk person mentioned that it was a quieter weekend for the hotel. So to put us in a noisy room with a terrible view when you've got plenty of available rooms? Especially when someone calls ahead of time to request the opposite? Feels sloppy and subpar. The pros? The location is great. The valet is convenient. The decor is really well done. But in terms of the price point and what you're getting, there are quite a few other hotels in the area that offer more for less. Maybe we'd feel differently if we weren't in such a noisy room. Really more Of a 3.5, but I'm going to be generous and round up in this instance. I was so excited to stay here after all of my research and a close friend had stayed a few weeks prior and raved about it. We were originally going to stay 2 nights but our trip changed so a few days before our trip I called the hotel and after a 10 min call they told me they were able to accommodate the additional night. We arrived late afternoon after a day of traveling and were tired and hungry (normal travel circumstances). I walked up to the counter and Brinn at reception could not find a reservation for the first night. I instantly felt defeated as I thought about worst case scenario and let out an audible sigh. Brinn handled the situation great and made sure we got into a room. About 15 min later we found ourselves on the 6th floor. Later that night we were trying to use their chromecast so we could watch Hulu, and it was not working so they sent up an electrician to help. He hung out with us for a solid 45 min trying to troubleshoot the problem. We got it to work for 15 min then lost connection. The next morning I asked if they had any other rooms since our original room was supposed to have 2 queen beds since we have a little guy and he had to use a cot (which barely fit in our deluxe king room). They were able to switch us to a deluxe room with 2 queens for our next 2 days or we had the option to upgrade to a suite. Since our room was already over 300 we decided not to spend an extra $500 for the suite. (Which I'm sure would have had much better views but oh well). My only request for our new room was If they could confirm that the chromecast and internet worked better in that room. He said he would personally check for us. That room did end up being much better even though we were 2 floors down. Overall the experience was okay, the room was small, the chromecast was spotty, lost reservation, and couldn't even see the view from the Nest (the rooftop bar) because we were traveling was a child. But I will say the hospitality of all of the workers was definitely great. Everyone was kind, patient, and professional. The gym was pretty good as well. Not sure if I would go back again since there are so many other great hotels in the area, but I wouldn't discourage people to not stay there either. read more

While they are trying to be a boutique high end hotel, the service and quality majorly fail to meet expectations. This place is trying to be modern and efficient, but the furniture is more like Ikea, black and dark, the rooms are small and service is lacking in both professionalism and execution. The air conditioning was making noise, I asked them to fix it twice and they said they would but nothing was done, they said they were having issues with AC as they are a new hotel, shouldn't these kind of things work. Also, the front desk has people that smile a lot yet don't do much. When I was asking about the AC one guy said he remembered the order being put in, the girl was saying I think we took care of it since it's now 5pm, seriously your job is to make sure it's taken care of and know that it was done. I had to call and be put on hold, transferred to the restaurant and then asked to call back to order breakfast, while the menu was on the TV, it would be useful if I could place my order that way too. When I came back to my room the breakfast tray was still here, had to call and ask for it to be removed. Also, the menu was kind weird, not a lot of egg dishes, but what I had was great, sunny side up eggs, crispy bacon, berries, bread was artisan, just what I needed before a big day. The bathroom, rain shower, European door so half the bathroom is wet, no handle to take a shower and not wash my hair, no shower cap, no slippers, had to call and ask for a pair. Towel hooks are over the toilet instead of next to the shower. The decor is also black and white and in a hotel I don't want to see black floor since I don't know if it's clean. The bed is OK but doesn't seem like it will last and will start caving very soon. Hotels should take note from the Startwood group and invest in high end beds that last, that is one of the things we are here to do is get a good nights sleep. Everything in this room is extra, water was $12, no coffee or tea maker, and a bunch of snacks and facial products that were overpriced. I wish I could leave half stars as I'd give this hotel 3.75 stars. The staff receive a 5 star rating in my opinion. But the rooms very dimly lit and I could never get enough lighting in the room. Location is prime though and quick to walk to pike place. Not ideal if you have a car since parking is expensive but easy to walk to most places from the location. The staff however was so kind, provided cookies and water whenever I asked, and on a day when I lost my phone and needed their help calling a cab, they called a few times to check up, and even offered to call me an Uber if the taxi didn't come on time. They kept checking in to make sure I was taken care of. Much appreciated!! I was disappointed that Nest was closed the full week I was there as I had heard good things so that was one downside as well. But hotel was clean, and I also love the soap/shampoo products they keep in the rooms. read more

I have visited Seattle several times and stayed at premier hotels all over the world and my stay was the worst experience I have ever had. When we pulled up in front of the Hotel, we retrieved four bags from the Taxi with the bell person staring at us and offering no help even though I am disabled. I choose this property as they had a concierge to help with activities and dinner reservations. As we were at check in, we were informed that there was no concierge (if I knew that in advance, I would not have booked the room) we were told that the front desk could help. After speaking with the young lady, I realized that I knew more about Seattle then she did though, and I have not been in several years. Obviously, she was of no help. She suggested I look online. There were no welcome amenities. I received an email earlier that we should enjoy the top floor "The Nest" it turns out that this bar was unavailable for two nights. Once again if I had been informed it would have made a difference in booking. After returning the first day we found that housekeeping had left dirty coffee cups on the table and pillows on the floor. When we returned the second day late afternoon for a nap beforew dinner our room had not been cleaned. When I inquired at the front desk they said that they would "get around to it" This is the service I received for paying $1300 a night. I am extremely upset that I wasted money and time at this property. I will return to Seattle but almost any property would be a better value. One star is generous read more
