This place is one of our favorite speakeasies in the valley! It was fun to have to walk downstairs and go pass by the security at first, then with the password you'd be able to enter the door. We googled the password right in front of the security person's face when we visited here for the first time. After that, we had to find the door handle to get into the speakeasy, which was not too hard to notice. The drinks here were really good and the bartenders were professionals too. We sat both at the bar and at the tables. My partner and I usually prefer to sit at the bar because we can watch how the bartenders do their magic. We also like to ask questions to the bartenders so we learn more about mixology. If you exit from the back door, you will see another club/bar next to this place (they might be sharing bathrooms, not 100% sure). Went to the white rabbit with 2 friends tonight. We waited on the stairs with the bouncers for about 5 minutes and then were directed to a table to sit. We were seated for about 5-10 min and had ordered drinks. While we were waiting, the bouncers came back to our table and told us that our server believed us to be too intoxicated and that we had to leave. We had not had any drinks, and we were not intoxicated. If we had been too intoxicated, I imagine the bouncers would've noticed that while we stood with them for several minutes waiting for a table. One of the women in our group has some cognitive differences and leads to some different behaviors. It's frustrating and disappointing that we were judged and assumed to be intoxicated without them asking or trying to understand that maybe people are just different. I mentioned my friend's situation to the bouncer as we were leaving and he said "oh sorry" as we left. The server obviously doesn't understand what intoxication looks like and the bouncers or management should've verified the situation before kicking us out. read more

The White Rabbit is a neat experience.You have to go on their website for the password and once you're in, locate the secret door to enter the main space. What I really like about the process is how organized they are. When you walk up to the bouncer to give them the password, they call downstairs to get your table set up so that when you enter the main space you are greeted right away and taken to your table. The space is much larger than I expected. The interior is dark and moody. Prohibition era photos fill the walls throughout the entire space, including the bathrooms. There's tons of seating. There was hardly a wait the two times we visited. The first time we visited was during the fourth of July weekend and they were pretty slow, but the service wasn't. Service was on point. They were a lot busier on our second visit, but we only waited a few minutes. Again, service was on point. Now onto the drinks! I ordered an espresso martini both times, and both times it was made well. My husband and our guests also enjoyed their drinks. Drinks are served in nice, prohibition era cocktail glasses. They offer a limited food menu of starters, flatbreads, and dessert. They don't take more than 8 people and check is not split more than 3 parts. The place is dark and moody but has a classy atmosphere. The menu is in the order of sweetness from the top. This is not a regular cocktail bar but the best flavors infused. We went with delightful devilish and crocodile tears. You could taste every note in those drinks, amazingly stirred / mixed. The presentation, the flavor, the smell of the drink was beyond perfect. One of the best cocktails I have ever tasted. Two is a good number here. My husband and I came to the White Rabbit for New Year's Eve along with four friends. On their website, they clearly state that there is a $50 charge per person (on groups of 4+ people), which will be "applied toward your final bill." Accordingly, we expected to pay $300 ($50 x 6 people) plus whatever extra we ordered over $300. When we got the final tab, however, we were surprised to see that they were attempting to charge us $760, which included $300 in entrance fees in addition to our $460 tab. They refused to acknowledge their mistake, so we will be disputing this charge with our credit card company. We are not the only party they tried to scam tonight--at least one table near us also had the same experience. We've had some lovely prior experiences with the White Rabbit and were so excited to introduce our friends to this place, but we will not be returning. read more

I've been a fan of the White Rabbit for several years, but last night was a very big disappointment. First of all, when we enter the first door and got into the hallway where you look for the secret door, we had just barely entered and one of the waiters or maître D, whatever he was, he decided to open the secret door for us, before my friend could find it, and it ruined the surprise. My friend had never been there before and that's half of the whole idea of going! Going through that apothecary hallway to try to find the secret entrance is probably the most memorable part of the night!Then they placed us in the middle of a row of tables with people right up against us when there were plenty of other open booths, which I asked about and was told they were already reserved. That hadn't happened the last couple of times I was there. I had asked for a better booth and received it in the past. Finally, putting those footstools on the outside of the booths as seats is not a good idea. I took a spill off of one. Not cool. Also, the wait staff was practically nonexistent after bringing our food, and it wasn't super busy either. That's why I made the reservation at 6 PM instead of later in the evening when it gets busy. Their barbacoa is nothing like a traditional Mexican barbacoa. Theirs tastes like meat with bottled barbecue sauce. The sauce really overpowered the meat. The overall the flatbread was good. We'd been wanting to check out The White Rabbit Bar for quite some time but, until recently, haven't made the trek out. We've become fans of the speakeasy-style venues so were eager to make the trip. The White Rabbit is located down a set of stairs in an historic building in Downtown Gilbert. A password is required to get in. This can be found on the website or by signing up for the emails from White Rabbit. Once down the stairs you find yourself in a dimly lit hallway lined with cabinets containing old liquor bottles. Coming to the end of the hallway a Grandfather clock and bookshelf await. I'll leave it to you to figure out how to proceed from there. Once inside, the space is fairly generous but still intimate, with a bar along one wall and assorted tables and booths. Another wall is dedicated to showcasing some nicely curated bottles of whiskeys, bourbons and scotches. Service was prompt and friendly. We decided on our cocktail selections and chose a decent flatbread pizza to accompany them. I selected the "Keep It Shady", consisting of Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Sherry, Amaretto, Charred Pineapple, Toasted Tortilla Bitters, Baking Spice, Alternative Tobacco Smoke. This one was a winner, especially the nice nose of tobacco. I'd have it again. My lady decided on "Beneath The Lamppost" which was also pretty tasty. The pepperoni flatbread was decent but didn't particularly stand out. As a cap to our visit I chose a dram of Caol Ila 12 Year scotch. It was decent but not one I'd buy for the house. Having said that, The White Rabbit has an excellent and extensive selection of spirits from which to choose. You will definitely find something to suite your palate. The specialty cocktail selection is more limited but nicely varied, so you'll not be disappointed there, either. Overall, The White Rabbit is worth a visit. It is a little bit out of our way from Peoria, and there are other speakeasy options closer, but if we happen to be in the area again it is definitely on the radar. I guess the hidden somewhat dubious nature of speakeasies was a little lacking for me. The staff were naturally rushed as practically every seat was filled with loud drinkers. I know dress codes are practically impossible to enforce anymore but I do get to tired of seeing people in shorts and t shirts everywhere I go. I had hoped the patrons of the White Rabbit would make more of an effort, but alas no.
