Great food and amazing views. I always get the fish and chips which are so good and my partner loves the occasional seasonal Mexican food they have! We had the calamari, this needed to be crispier, the breading was falling off and the pieces were pretty large. My brother had the scallop risotto, which he said was okay. A true treasure in Sausalito. After dining at The Trident with my family, I can see why it was voted the best outdoor restaurant and restaurant with a view of Sausalito! We came for a Christmas Eve lunch and had a memorable experience from the grand view, appetizing seafood, and inviting hospitality. My family and I arrived with no plans or reservations to dine here but I'm so glad we did. Walk-ins are welcomed but reservations are also taken through phone or OpenTable. When we came in we were greeted by the friendly manager and asked if we'd like to dine inside or outside on their waterfront patio. We chose the latter which was perfect as it was a beautiful and somewhat clear day in the Bay--plus the heat lamps helped keep us warm. Take advantage of their outdoor dining, but if you choose to dine inside it's spacious and gives off of an old-school yet classy nautical feel to it with the wooden decor. The perfect inviting setting for big groups, families, friends, or dates. After being seated at a table on the patio, we admired the view of the Bay which is the real draw of the restaurant! Their lunch and dinner menu is seafood-forward with starters, salads, sandwiches, and entrees. We all had starters to share and ordered the P.E.I Mussels & Steamed Clams, Dungeness Crab Cakes, and Horseradish Deviled Eggs. Since I'm not a huge fan of mussels we were treated to all clams. This dish included a hefty amount of clam meat drenched in a savory and rich buttery, garlic, white wine sauce which gave the clams some flavor. The crab cakes were my personal favorite as it was crunchy, rich, and packed with flavorful and savory crab. I would've kept these for myself if I could've! I felt that the deviled eggs were a letdown as they didn't have a hint of horseradish in it. There was no spice and barely any seasoning to it--but it was creamy and had a generous amount of egg to it. All of our dishes were plated picture-perfect and I'm glad we got to dive in and not have any of our food stolen by the scoundrel seagulls! Food is on the pricier end for the quantity you get, so just be mindful of that. The food left us all in a food coma but what made our meal a highlight was the service we received from management and our waiter. This area and The Trident were my Stepdad's stomping grounds, especially during the peak of the 1970s. Stories and laughs were shared and we were taken care of with grace, kindness, and respect. Located on Sausalito's waterfront, you'll find The Trident. A spacious and spectacular seafood restaurant with a history and beautiful view to its name. Parking is available in the front of the restaurant as is valet only ($6 for customers). Although I don't frequent Sausalito much, I'd be more than happy to come back again with my family or others for these reasons! read more

This review is based on their parking policies only. Granted, we had no intentions of eating at this restaurant and that we were willing to pay, but I just find it really ridiculous that parking an SUV is approximately 40% more than regular cars. It's not like we were assigned bigger spaces - all the parking spots are pretty much sized the same. I had no problems parking the car myself (pandemic and all) but I felt it made bumped-up charges even more ridiculous. I understand there are other parking options and that no one forced me to park here, but I'm not familiar with the area, so this was my only choice at the time. Fish and chips were a little over promised as "famous". Clam chowder was just ok. Steak came with just some dry over cooked potatoes. Restaurant is loud when full. In the end. You really just pay for the view. Shawn our server, he was good. Comped the soup and salad for the mistake of the kitchen. One and done experience as we shouldn't have had to pay for the steak dish at all, given how poorly the whole dish was executed. I had a really nice lunch at the Trident last week. I was on my own having a staycation day in Sausalito. The weather was beautiful and I got a table all to myself looking out on the bay in all its glory. The hostess was very nice in setting up the table for me. They had a special Aloha Friday Menu and I got the salmon teriyaki sandwich with macaroni/potato salad. The salmon on the sandwich was good but the odd mix of condiments and overpowering amount of red onion rounds were too much. Easily corrected by removing onions but the remaining tomatoes,seaweed salad and sauce were an odd mix on the sandwich. I'll stick to something more classic next time. The service was very nice and the view made me really happy. Looking forward to returning and trying something else. read more

Yikes, I hate to rag on any local business trying to survive, but places like this one, that relies primarily on their location to get away with poor food and poorer service, should not be in business. We paid close to $200/person after taxes and tip for their New Years Eve dinner, and was provided some of the worst service we have ever experienced. The kitchen was severely understaffed, and a simple 4 course dinner turned into a 4-hour affair. That is an hour per course! We were in good company and spirit, so this could have been remedied by an attentive waiter, but we had the unlucky experience with the worst waiter in the restaurant. He did not bother to come by to refill water or ask if we wanted to order drinks will we wait for our food. In fact, he made it a point to avoid eye contact with every single table in his section, so he does not have to deal with any questions. Insult to injury, the lobster my wife ordered was burnt, and my lamb came out with a handful of peas and missing every other component listed with it. 4 hours into this ordeal, my wife was just done with the whole experience and asked the waiter for an update on desserts as we have been waiting for an hour for them to slice and plate some cakes. The waiter's replied everyone's waiting, not just you. Like come on, we just spent $800 and 4 hours waiting on a lackluster meal, the least you can do is pretend to make an effort. Restaurants like this one will always find a way to survive thanks to their prime real estate and waterfront view. We end up being very full. We had -crab cakes -peach bellini -cioppino (was very big for just me) -sole -creme brule - 2 x sauvignon blanc Everything was excellent, especially Cioppino but it was too big for me I think its good dish for sharing. In a weekend I visited Trident for lunch and used the valet parking service upon arrival. The food was satisfactory, the service was good, and the scenery was beautiful. However, after my meal, I discovered my car was damaged. Over two months of communication, the valet service denied responsibility, and repair costs was estimated around $4,000. I contacted the restaurant three times for assistance but received no response. As a result, I brought the matter to small claims court. Overall, this led me to give a one-star rating due to the high overall cost of the lunch and the unresolved damage issue. read more

I had forgotten how great the view of the Bay is from the tables inside near the back as well as the outdoor tables. The restaurant offers a full bar as well as a wine selection. They are known for their tequila sunrise. I had a glass of the Hess chardonnay, which at $14/glass is pretty much the going price for a restaurant with a view. I had the calamari ($24) as a main and thought it was good, but I've had better. Same with my husband's lobster roll ($34) ... The service was very good. Since I was last there, they either added or I forgot about two wide sloping ramps down to the second level, making it very easy to get to the seats with the views. If you have a family member who is not as mobile as formerly, or who is in a wheelchair or uses a cane or a walker, this is the perfect restaurant for brunch or a special occasion. There is also valet parking at the entrance to the restaurant, an advantage in touristy Sausalito if you don't want to walk far to park. read more

As a longtime Bay Area resident I have seen this restaurant but never visited until recently when a visitor was in town. I went for brunch & my primary disappointment was that my poached eggs in my crab cake Benedict order was overcooked/not runny or soft as I specified, which personally wrecks my meal for me. I could have asked them to re-do the eggs but there is an egg shortage in the Bay Area & I didn't want to delay eating the rest of my dish as my friends were eating theirs. Potatoes & crab cakes were okay. Dessert was a shared Fantasy cake but the first bite was better than my last. Service was fine, friendly waiter who writes orders in tiny hand-writing in his notepad which was incredible. Had a small taste of friend's lobster roll &did not regret that I didn't order it. Sausalito is a place that is just really special. Every time I get down here I just feel like it resonates with my soul. It doesn't matter if it's cloudy or sunny, if it's windy or still, and if I'm by myself or if I bring others- Sausalito always remains breathtaking and totally unique. The other thing that remains the same about Sausalito is that I always eat here at the Trident. I've never had a bad meal, and I've never had somebody eat with me here and complain about what they've had. I have had a variety of good to really good in regards to the quality of the food and sometimes I've had better service than others, but I've always left in a positive frame of mind. This week, I brought my better half to Sausalito for his first time seeing it and of course we stopped into the Trident for lunch. They had just started opening for dining in on their outdoor patio and were still working out the kinks on keeping things covid safe. We were the first ones seated, and I ordered a lemon drop ( $15), hubby ordered a coffee, and then we looked at the menu for a while and took in the sights of the bay. I already knew what I was going to order because I ordered the same thing every time and that was the crab Louie ( $34). Hubby is a man who loves his fish and chips so he tried them out ( $30). Our server was Orlando and he was very friendly and told us that he and the team were still training newbies and adding to their staff. Our drinks came out super fast and then our entrees were not far behind. The fish and chips were fresh, crispy, and perfectly fried, with a great mouthfeel and topped with flaked salt. My crab Louie was so delicious, it made me do a happy dance and that dance made my hubby laugh. The avocado was perfectly ripe, the greens were fresh and bouncy, and the crab was sweet and was quite generous with the quantity. The trident has probably seen better days, and definitely shows its age in some areas, but it remains a place that has stood the test of time. I would have loved to see it in it's prime- I'm sure it was quite the sight. It is also related to the Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco, which is a staple in itself of the local cuisine and experience of countless visitor's trips to The City. This also means that they serve their signature Irish coffees here, which is definitely the reason my dad always dines here as well. The location is epic, with views that you cannot beat. They have on-site valet parking as well as paid metered parking on the street, and dining prices are comparable with the local waterfront seafood scene. This has been a staple for my Sausalito trips and will continue to hold that place as a delicious and special stop for me on my visits to this wonderful city. read more

However after asking the busboy got our drinks he said he would let our waiter know. After a long wait, we ask the cocktail waitress if could order food from her. She said she would let our server know. Again after a long wait, I asked the hostess we wanted to order food. Hostess said she would send over a server to take our order. After awhile, the hostess took our order. Obviously, there was NO SERVER/WAITER assigned to our section. Which is actually fine to me, but don't say you'll send the waiter right over. How do you not know that section we were sitting was not covered?? Getting the run around and looks that why are we asking you to order food and not our waiter. On top of that, my order came and it was wrong. Went to the hostess who took the order said she would send over the waiter right away? I just looked at her and walked back to my table since I knew she would soon realize there is no waitress assigned to our section. My parents were visiting from out of town, so my husband and I decided to take them to Sausalito to have dinner for my dad's birthday. We were excited to try The Trident because it was right on the water and we all love seafood. We decided to order the following: . Baked Oysters . Truffle Parmesan fries . Classic New England Style Lobster Roll . Fish & Chips . Seafood Linguini . Fish Tacos The baked oysters and truffle fries were definitely my favorite items! They were very flavorful and I would recommend them both as appetizers. My mom's fish and chips were extremely fried on the outside, and I prefer them to be crispy/flaky. I also wasn't a huge fan of the fish tacos I ordered. They were grilled (but slightly burned) and the tortillas were served cold. The rest of the items were good, but nothing too special. Our server was friendly and attentive. We told him we were celebrating my dad's birthday, so he came back with a slice of chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and sang him happy birthday. We were surprised to see that we were charged $10 for the cake, because we would've preferred to see dessert menu if we had known it wasn't complementary. The best part of the restaurant was definitely the view. The outdoor patio was right on the water and the weather that day was perfect to be outside. They even have valet parking which is helpful since street parking can be hard to find. I also appreciated the COVID-19 procedures that were in place- single-use menus, masks, spaced out seating, etc. Overall, I'd rate The Trident a 3.5 because I wasn't blown away by the food for almost a $200 dinner. Came here on August 20. Nice indoor setting in Sausalito. It was quite busy when we got there but we had a reservation and didn't have to wait the at least 45 minute wait. There's a somewhat small menu though prices are hefty. I got the Grilled Mixed Seafood Brochette and wasn't expecting what I saw. It wasn't bad but wasn't expecting it. Though, I didn't notice the Scallops in my dish. The others were on a skewer and it was served on top of white rice and some veggies. The food was decent. Had the Trident Sunrise. Oddly when I arrived there was no reservation under my name or a name close to it but no big issue as the hostess was still able to immediately seat us. May be a good idea to call the day before to confirm as this may not always be the case for a large party on a Saturday with good weather. The food turned out to be excellent, very fresh tasting. This restaurant is in a beautiful location. I have been here once before many years ago. I think that's why people enjoy it so much. The view of the bay, San Francisco, the bay bridge, and Alcatraz. I'm giving this solemn review because of the service and limited menu options. My waiter wasn't attentive to my table. He had me waiting on the sunny side of the restaurant for long stretches of time. By the end there, I was sweating. A gentleman with a date was seated next to me and was being attended to with vigor. This is why I knew it wasn't because of the large party sitting behind me. The oysters on the half shell were delicious. The wine list was competent. My crab cake benedict was delicious, but the presentation was hideous. It came in a bowl. I couldn't even take a picture. If you like crab cake benedict, this one comes without an English muffin. My friend and I came here for lunch today with our dogs as I searched for a dog friendly place on yelp. A man outside told one of us to go through the back and the other to go talk to the host. So I went with the dogs to the back patio and my friend went inside. I was waiting for almost 10 mins-- my friend told me that she was the only one waiting for the host and the host was doing something else, just staring at her. Didn't even acknowledge her. So anyways, we both ordered the Lobster roll and it was honestly awful. It tasted like nothing. (My photo makes it look really tasty though) Super disappointing for a $30 sandwich. We also tried to order chicken for our dogs and our waiter told us he didn't think they could do that so we said "ok no problem" but then the manager came out and was super stern and bizarre with us saying "we CANNOT serve your dogs food" It was just WEIRD and made us feel uncomfortable. We ordered the following items: 1) 1/2 dozen oysters 2) Mushroom Risotto 3) Clam Chowder Bowl 4) Lobster Roll 5) Trident Burger & Trident Fries Let's get the positive items out of the way. Service: The servers were awesome. They were attentive, and in one situation, they corrected a serious mistake on the part of the kitchen. Ambiance: As mentioned in other reviews, the views are topnotch. They seated us outside, with a view next to the water. These two positive aspects are the only reason, this review received two stars. Now, let's take about the food: 1/2 Dozen Oysters - Oysters were questionably fresh. The liquer was already starting to get cloudy, and one of the oysters should not have been served. It looked like it was mutilated, There were huge dark brown lumps over the Oyster, and it was actually a matter of safety, that I asked the server to take it away. Thankfully, he served a second batch of three oysters that were very fresh. But, that bad oyster SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SERVED! Mushroom Risotto - This was the second best item, from those we ordered. However, mushroom content was actually light. It should have been called Tomato Risotto. It also needed more salt, and some of the rice kernels were on the uncooked side. Clam Chowder Bowl - Clam Chowder Bowl was mediocre at best. It lacked seasoning, and it was evident that the flour based roux had no seasoning. The clams were similar in texture to canned clams. Lobster Roll - Definitely the worst of the lot. The lobster was overcooked, and spongy. It was also over seasoned. The salt content was excessive. The bread was hard on the top, and soggy, on the bottom. Trident Burger and Trident Fries - For the Trident Burger, I asked for medium. not Medium Well, or Well. What I received was a large hamburger bun, with vegetables, and a small burned hamburger that was cooked to Well Done. As in the other dishes, there was no seasoning. During this entire meal, my wife and I made liberal use of the salt and pepper shakers. I very rarely write negatively. However, I felt it necessary to do so, in this case. My daughter had a very positive experience at this restaurant. She wanted this to be as much positive experience, as we did. However, it was not to be. We also had dinner reservations at The Trident. When my food arrived, my steak was over cooked & the lobster was very rubbery. I expressed this & I did get a discount on my meal because of this. The calamari had a nice light batter, but all of them looked like identical little hoola hoops. That was a red flag to me as calamari shouldn't look the same, they have different shapes and sizes. Enjoyed taking my out of towner co-workers here for lunch. Went here at opening, and glad to have been able to pick our table with the outdoor dining since it was such a beautiful clear day. You also have a choice of indoor seating, but highly recommend outdoor because of the nice views. After a couple of hours of touring The City, we couldn't see anything because of the fog, but in Sausalito, it was super clear next to the water. From our table, we also saw dolphins swimming around, pretty cool. The fare was pretty standard bay area seafood, so I tried the clam chowder and salad with crab. The clam chowder in a bread bowl is not big as if you would get it on the wharf, and the chowder was decent. I liked my fresh crab on my salad, it was very meaty and a generous amount.
