What an undiscovered gem of a restaurant .Not fancy but nice menu and drinks. Lovely portions, food was good. Staff was lovely.

Once you get past the pretty awful decor (sorry, it's just crazy and mismatched ) you find a quaint little diner. We stopped in for just a few small bites and were greeted by very friendly servers. The food took a bit to come out but it was hot, fresh, and pretty good. read more

I could give 2 shits about the backstory here. Not going to recap in depth as others have, however here's a summary: there was a cafe here, Gordon Ramsey filmed a show (did not watch), and then they sold to new owners. There! Saved you 5min of life you'll never get back. Personally I was not a fan of the previous restaurant (Love Bites). It wasn't anything amazing, especially when you have similar farm to table places like Miss Lucy's right down the back. The thought of a new spot represented change, and with all the talk of change in Saugerties that should bring something new and exciting, right? Wrong. New folks made it into a diner. They're nice enough, the menu is fine and the prices are reasonable. But there are already multiple diners. Hell there's a diner right around the freaking corner (that actually looks like a diner). Why was this the choice? For all of the talk about the town changing and becoming more Woodstock-ey, with the exception of a few art galleries that the owners are probably using as tax write offs, it's the same old same old. They didn't even change the decor really. Why 3 stars? The food is not bad at all. Got a steak sandwich take out which was cooked properly (not well done) albeit a bit small. Bread was meh. Taste was decent although could've used an aioli or some shit. Everyone else enjoyed their food. Wasn't remarkable enough to be our go-to versus the other diners we know, however far from the worst place to eat in town. Would try it again if walking around. Just not running back. Hopefully they refine the concepts or add specials or something. Would love some BBQ in town now that Legal Swine and also the place further down Partition closed (HINT). read more

I stopped by The Town Cafe in Saugerties for breakfast recently. This casual local family restaurant serves all day breakfast, plus lunch and dinner. After seeing their food online, I decided to stop in for breakfast. The place wasn't too busy mid morning so I sat myself at a table. The server brought over a menu and I got an ice water. I ordered the Western Omelet ($9.95 plus tax) served with hash browns and toast. My food was served in about 12 minutes. The 3 egg omelet was blended and folded with ham, green peppers and onions. The hash browns were freshly shredded potatoes seasoned and grilled nicely. The slices of wheat toast were cut in triangles and buttered well. I enjoyed my breakfast as I was reading messages on my phone. The dishes were cleared immediately as I finished and the check was promptly presented, $10.75 with tax and before tip. Overall, a great breakfast with prompt service. I want to return for dinner since their pasta entrees look really good. read more

We stopped by for breakfast and ordered the chicken with waffles, the big boy breakfast and a horchata. As for the chicken and waffle, the chicken was juicy and not dry, but the waffle that came with it was like eating cardboard. The big boy breakfast came with eggs, very thin bacon, home fries and two pancakes that were also dry but nowhere near the waffle. Unfortunately, this place gets the NOT SAFE rating from the Gluten Avenger. I ate there for the first time this morning, carefully negotiated the gluten free situation, and had an immediate reaction. So if you're gluten-sensitive in any way (I am celiac), it's going to be best to avoid this place. I had eggs with corn tortillas; I usually am fine with corn. I did not have them bring out the package to verify the ingredients. This gets exhausting after a while, but you cannot count on anyone who is themselves not sensitive to gluten caring about the issue very much. It has gone out of vogue and "gluten free" seems to remain in name only. read more

After visiting the Saugerties Lighthouse and reading excellent reviews, I decided to stop by The Town Cafe Restaurant, and I'm happy I did. As soon as I was seated, my server, Karla, promptly provided me with a menu and took my drink order. I chose the Western Omelet, and the freshness of the peppers enhanced it significantly. Karla was not only efficient and attentive with my drink refills but also very personable, taking the time to chat with me after my meal. Lots of backstory to unpack here, skip to the last two paragraphs if you don't care about the drama/history and just want to know if you should eat here or not. This restaurant was called Love Bites. It had a loyal customer base but was truly beloved by the weekend and tourist crowds. Love bites had a unique menu and used many locally sourced, fresh and organic ingredients. A few months ago famous Chef Gordon Ramsay filmed a show here. YES CHEF!! That Chef Ramsay. The entire town was up in arms because his crew took up 6 parking spots and at one point shut the street down for 20 minutes. Reading all the outage on the local social media pages you would have thought Ramsay himself killed the HS mascot, burned down the library and ran off with the Mayor's daughter. But hey, Saugerties has a thing about parking and film crews so the outrage was nothing out of the ordinary. After filming and the Mayor's daughter was safe everything was back to normal but then a few short weeks later Love Bites was closed. Then another week later it was announced that Love bites was sold and that a new restaurant would be opening with a new concept but sticking to the traditions that Love Bites was so beloved for. Since the episode that Chef Ramsey filmed didn't and still hasn't aired yet everyone was and is still left wondering if Chef Ramsey had anything to do with the closing. Now fast forward another few weeks and "The Town Cafe" announced its opening date on various social media local pages. The new management are local and veterans of the restaurant scene so everyone was excited. Then another week later they posted their menu. Gone was the unique dishes using locally sourced ingredients and replaced with hot open face turkey sandwiches, Tuna melts, breakfast all day and all the other usual items you would find on your typical diner menu. It was quite a commotion in these local village groups and pages. Some wondering why it was turning into diner since their are already a few in Saugerties. Others wishing them luck proclaiming they "can't wait to try it out and support a local business" and of course plenty of arguing, disagreeing and the place didn't even open yet. Fast forward. It has been opened over a month. I have been here twice. Both times there was 4 of us. Both times everyone ordered something different. I tasted a bite from everyones main courses. So I tried 8 different dishes from the menu plus various sides. Guess what? It's a diner. All the people proclaiming they couldn't wait to try it either lied or already tried it and didn't like it because both times I went and whenever I walk past it's not busy. Perhaps everyone forgot about it opening because apparently the newest outrage in the Saugerties local groups is a new Starbucks that is still under construction. As for it being a diner: It's not better or worse then the diner literally a 3 minute walk around the block. It seems to be a little cheaper and the specials seem to come with more food. The service both times was extremely friendly and thorough. The decor doesn't look like a diner but I assure you it's a diner. I am probably being generous with 4 stars but I don't want to knock their ratings down since I am the 2nd to review and also I don't like diners so it would be unfair to judge it as such. There are just to many dishes and items to concentrate on and perfect so everything is always average in most diners. However every diner has at least one dish that does stand out. Here I think it's the mozzarella wedges. So try it out. Tell me I am wrong? Or right? Or just another Citidiot or a dumb yocal. read more

First timer here. This was a great spot, I avoid eating gluten and the server was so knowledgeable in recommending appropriate food. Went with sunny side up eggs, home fries and GLUTEN FREE FRENCH TOAST, and guess what, every dish tasted so good, and the gluten free french toast surpasses my expectations! What a find! The restaurant is clean and bright. The service was fantastic. Our server Lexi was helpful and sweet. We started off with chicken orzo soup which was delicious. We split an 8 piece order of the fried chicken. It was served with French fries and coleslaw. The chicken was really crispy and perfectly seasoned. For dessert we had a flan and an order of churros. Both were wonderful. The prices are reasonable. They have breakfast food, sandwiches, wraps and pasta. We will be back to try more of the menu! read more

We were all caught up with the draw and excitement of Gordon Ramsay and crew coming to this little upstate town and the strange outcome of his visit. Hopefully the previous owners of Love Bites are having a more harmonious and healthy time together and in the meantime we have The Town Cafe. Initial impression from the menu was it's essentially diner fare. This is true but it is all cooked consistently well. Have been there for breakfast, lunch and dinner and there have been no misses, it is consistent and above all else, friendly sweet service from the waitstaff, every time. Thank you!! A few things we have tried and enjoyed: Caesar salad with grilled shrimp, chicken marsala, and on the sweet side, crème brûlée and cappuccino. I do wish that they could make cocktails and some more vegetarian and vegan options on the menu would be appreciated. These were the good things about Love Bites when it was good. Also I think the "renovation" and overwrought wallpaper & art should go. There are too many patterns going on in there, from an ambience perspective they should consider simplifying the decor. read more

This evening LJ James, John Pappy, and I had the pleasure of dining at The Town Café on Partition Street in Saugerties. What a great experience! As soon as I walked in and saw the wallpaper and upholstery, I knew this was the place for me; the decor was awesome! We were greeted warmly and made to feel welcome as soon as we walked in. The servers, Kelly and Lexi, were on point. I had heard great things about the fried chicken here, and it didn't disappoint. The batter was thick and crunchy, and the chicken was tender and juicy. We had the 12 piece, and it came with a huge serving of french fries and plenty of coleslaw. The owners, Benny, Alicia, Will, and Andrea, all stopped by the table at some point and checked on us and made sure we were enjoying ourselves. They heard us mention that we had wanted to try the fried mozzarella, but thought it might be too much food; they sent us out a complimentary order and it was delicious! All of the food was made from scratch and it was all very good! Our total bill including desserts and beverages was only $52, which I thought was very reasonable for the amount of food we got. I really can't say enough good things about this place... I will definitely be back, and I definitely recommend you try it. read more

5 of us came for lunch today. Most thought the food was mediocre - lukewarm soup, a wrap that lacked flavor, a salad with brown lettuce that was clearly made in advance on an ice cold plate that had obviously been refrigerated - except for the BLT w avocado which was actually really good. Two of us asked for side-dish substitutions and were told sure, no problem. When the bill came, we were charged extra for both substitutions. We checked the menu to make to ensure it was not our mistake but no - the menu did not mention it. We politely asked that those charges be removed from our bill. The wait staff informed us that they would not do so. We asked for the manager who apologized that we were not informed but still insisted he would not remove the charges. He finally did remove them, but given the mediocre food who'd go back after all that? read more

I seldom write reviews. I was staying in Saugerties for a mountaineering trip in the Catskills and really just wanted dessert. The waitress, Morgan, was so kind and did such a great job. She greeted me when I walked in and seated me promptly even though she looked busy. She recommended the churros and wow, were they delicious! Food is amazing! I ordered and it was delivered through door dash. I was able to order an Entree at 10am and a bacon egg and cheese wrap and all was perfectly cooked. The only downside was I couldn't add any specifications to the egg wrap like add ketchup/hot sauce etc. but I think that's more of a doordash issue. read more
