I decided to stop in for lunch. I'm glad I did. The place was bright and clean, and everybody was friendly. It just has a good old-fashioned diner vibe. They had a very very large menu. I felt like breakfast, so I had the Tuscan omelette. Portobello mushrooms, and roasted red pepper, with mozzarella cheese. It also had Home fries, and I had rye toast. Everything was good. The omelette was tender, I love, portobello mushrooms, and while I don't care for green bell pepper, I really do like red pepper The fact that it was roasted gave it more of a deep flavor. There was a good amount of mozzarella, but not so much that it overtook the rest of the ingredients. Everything played very well with each other. The potatoes were perfectly done, as was the toast. It was not overdone, like some can be. I ended up taking some of my breakfast with me, and then I also ordered an order of the bread pudding to go. Bread pudding is a diner, staple, and they do it very good here. It was tender, the custard was good, just a fantastic bread pudding overall. As of March 2025, there was a very minimal "egg surcharge", very understandable, and there is also a small surcharge if you choose to pay with anything other than cash. They don't try to hide it, they clearly post both of these surcharges. Even with all of that, the price was still very reasonable. I want to come back and try more things. Thank you. read more

Umm pssst, I ordered oj NO not the person, poured some on my nana to soak-double yumm btw shhh;) and umm oh yea blueberry and strawberries too on the side! Deliciousness! Now, please don't tell anybody but they snuck me a syrup. Maple syrup. Yup. So so sooooo very very good..... I forgot plain yogurt & a coffee sheesh me! Michael's Diner isn't really the second coming of Jesus- but when a lot of restaurant kitchens close at about 9:30-10pm on a Saturday in Woodstock for crying out loud and only serve drinks and beer, this was doable for an almost 11pm desperate nosh. And the fact these folks close at 3am, this was a straight up winner. Nestled among strip mall after strip mall paradise in Kingston, NY, Michael's has all your Greek Diner basics with two, down-to-earth/as pleasant as they can get servers who are running a tight ship. The space is large. Has all these multi-color Christmasy lights and green ones towards the back. This to me said Tarantino's 'From Dusk Til Dawn'- without the gore and topples dancing. But let me bend your ears a little though- I get it- no one wants to see a hair on their food. But like someone wrote, "stick to diner basics". Just don't get fancy and shit with your requests. Hubs thoroughly enjoyed his waffle topped with fresh strawberries+blueberries and none of that red glob mess you see elsewhere. My buttered toast+egg sandwich was simple but satisfying. Hash browns are baconless here and I was digging it. All they needed was salt to make them pop with the already subtle seasoning they had. My girl Olivia delivered great service and was a hoot. And she was honest when she told me my Vanilla Egg Cream order was the second she's done that Saturday. She did good...with some coaching. And the music? A hot mix of R&B and some recent pop. The first 2 reviews here are indeed correct about my girl working here. She LITERALLY takes the time to tell you, "I'll be with you soon"- and trust that. She's a talker- but won't chew your ear off. It has been a while since I stopped at Michael's Diner in Kingston, but, I caved to the pressure from my friends for a late breakfast/early lunch. The good: A new menu, very flashy and easy to read. Has all of the usual diner stuff. The bad: The parking lot/driveway has potholes deep enough to go fishing. Take it slow and you might avoid severe tire damage. Pancakes: I ordered a tall stack. Came out overcooked, or perhaps the mix is not good to start with. Definitely not made with buttermilk. Hard, not as a rock, but reminded me of my slate roof. Four tiny, tiny, tiny pats of "butter". Cold syrup. Not a memorable breakfast. Will avoid next time, if there is a next time. No wifi. TV showing the spectrum weather channel. I know that diners are a vanishing species, but archaeologists will see the beginnings of the demise here. read more

Ok so this is my favorite diner. Food is always good, Noel is an amazing server and our favorite. The problem is, it's 55° outside and the A/C is blowing straight down on us. My tea got cold before I could finish, my food got cold before I was half finished. The owners sister insists on the A/C being on. When your customers have to take their food to go because the cold air is blowing right on them, it's time to worry about them. Not you. Maybe you should dress differently to make up for the room temperature. I probably won't go back because she doesn't care about her sisters customers. We, my group, left once and decided to try again and now here we are. This girl is the "manager" of this place. What happened to diners? You can hardly find ones open late anymore and when you do, it's sorely lacking. Bad coffee (I'm not expecting much), flat sodas, unseasoned food and fries that were in various stages of doneness and salt. I felt like my order was scraped together from 3 different batches. To make matters worse, the waitresses were rude to indifferent. I actually don't mind indifference, but at least check in on your table and bring water when asked. read more

Food was very good. Had pastrami and eggs plate which I'd never had before and loved. Others had egg sandwich on a croissant which they loved. But when they cleaned tables around us they used a very pungent disinfectant which which was in the air for quite awhile. Could ruin your appetite. read more

I ordered a turkey stuffing wrap today. I previously had this same wrap and really enjoyed it as it was made with fresh roast turkey. When I got it today, it was made with sliced deli turkey. It was not the same and I'll never order it again unless they bring back fresh roasted turkey. read more

Honestly, I do not recommend. I ordered the chicken penne ala vodka, which tasted like tomato soup and seemed to have a frozen vegetable medley mixed in. Tasted okay but not great. My friend ordered a chicken salad sandwich, which she said was good at first but then tasted foul all of a sudden. Luckily the waitress didn't charge us for it and took it back. Ordered take out but tipped 20% anyway. My mother-in-law likes this place but didn't want to dine in. Ordered a mushroom Swiss burger and fries, a Ruben, and a turkey BLT with a side of mashed and gravy. I haven't eaten any of it yet but I'm happy so no reason to not leave a good review. read more

Michael's Diner was nearly empty when I showed up at 7 pm. Indeed, the place had the air of a restaurant that doesn't ever get busy once the early bird diners mosey on home. That should have been my first indicator that this would not be the restaurant for me. But I gamely let myself be escorted to a booth and perused the menu. Michael's holds great stock in breakfast. The rest of the menu is an eclectic collection of entrees, from Mexican to Italian to Greek.  I had planned just to go for fish, but the Greek plates caught my eye and I eventually settled on a Spinach platter. I also decided to try the cream of carrot soup as an appetizer. Sounded different.  I left the restaurant laden down with thick, heavy, food. The cream of carrot soup was a bland mixture of cream soup base made lumpy with carrot shavings. The spinach cake was layers of spinach, onion, and cheese, but only tasted of cheese. The accompanying salad was laden with feta cheese for flavor, and the well-formed mound of rice had been salted to distraction.  The waitress was very attentive. She checked on me often, each time very tentatively asking if I needed anything. She would depart with an air of relief,  genuinely surprised each time I told her "no."   (She thanked me for being such a "chill" customer at the end. How do y'all treat servers here?) Why didn't I complain? This was obviously how the food was meant to be made: taken from a recipe book that my own grandmother may have once owned, extolling the virtues of gelatin in your sauces, and doubling salt levels to accommodate for worn tastebuds.  Mine was a case of eating the meal I had been given, young man. Starving children elsewhere, and all that. I believe the waitress had warned me, though. She'd told me that their burgers weren't bad, and I believe you can't mess up a burger (much). Not only was this food a compliment to my 2 AM munchies. But the waitress Olivia was sweeter then a tall cup of McDonald's sweet tea with extra ice. And yes just to be clear, you heard right, 2 AM munchies. This is the only diner in MILES that you will see open past 10 now! I'm hard on diners...coming from Jersey I have high expectations if my diners. Wifey and I stopped in here late night a couple weeks ago and I didn't love it. Wifey might have had a drink or two and ordered scrambled eggs and Disco fries (fries with mozzarella cheese and gravy). Being on a crappy restrictive diet I just had a salad with grilled shrimp. Wifey hammered her meal (and the fry I had was fine), but this was the worst salad I've ever had. Iceberg,m lettuce, under-ripe tomatoes and a few crappy grilled shrimp with no flavor. The waitress and 'host' didn't seem very interested in how we were doing as neither came over til our meal was done. There are lots of great places to eat in the area...I didn't love this one. read more

we went to this diner last evening and the food was atrocious ! Corned beef on rye was OLD meat, GRILLED ! , & not edible, beyond believable....The sirloin chopped steak was hard as a rock & dryer than dry Mixed veggie included HUGE carrot slices that were 90% Raw, noticed diner was relatively empty at diner time so the word must be out....They should have a cook that knows how to prepare american food, If you would like to purchase dog food or make a donation go to Michaels but don't try to eat the food read more

Enjoyed the Fish and Chips. Fish was fresh and tasty. The family had the Cheese Burger, stuffed shells and the Beef Gyro. My son loved the burger. Swapped out the fries for onion rings which were great. Salad was OK although the tomatoes were delicious. Server was very nice and kind. Would return next time we visit. read more

This place is a good last ditch effort if you want something to eat but beware the food is really just not that good. We ordered pancakes and a panini but was really surprised at what they considered a panini. The panini was pretty much a deli sandwich with a weird bread choice. The pancakes were okay, a little burnt. The menu was a mess with things listed multiple times. Our waitress was nice and attentitive but the food and the outdated inside is what gets the low rating. My order has LONG BLACK HAIRS throughout the entire entree, I found one right on top, removed it, took a bite and there were hairs throughout the food internally. Disgusting and had to throw everything away. I will never eat here again. Clearly there is a sanitation issue. read more

Writing lousy reviews are lame unless there's actual reason behind them. Here there is. My family, probably like some others out there, doesn't eat out often (once a week). So when we do eat out we chose the places that have always been reputable and we know we can trust for a quality meal. For a long time Michaels diner was the go to for a burger, chicken wrap, fresh sandwich, anything. You know you were in for a treat when you ordered off their menu. However, over the years the diner has changed owners, staff. Virtually no one has remained. But that shouldn't mean the quality has to change too. Unfortunately it did. Lazy (not caring for the needs of their customers) forgetful (forgetting what you ordered), even sloppy (food such as burgers look thrown together in seconds) are now words used to describe Michaels diner. Michael's Diner is my go to place in Kingston when I'm driving through. They're always open, they're always nice and the food is always decent. They offer a huge menu with something for everyone. I usually opt for breakfast, but have enjoyed a number of sandwiches and burgers here as well. Their portions are huge and the prices low, so its a real win! They have awesome muffins, so get one toasted with butter especially the corn muffin, yum!!! read more
