This place is a perfect lunch or coffee spot. It's so cute with all the colors and decor and has a couple of tables for seating indoors. It's conveniently located on Wall Street in uptown Kingston and has delicious sandwiches for a light lunch. We got the Sweetie Pie wrap and the roasted Eggplant sandwich and both were delicious. The goat cheese is really good on the wrap and the eggplant was so flavorful and went great with the pesto. Service was quick and the people working were very nice. I'm not sure if this was just an off-day or if people are just accustomed to this style of food/service. I went there for a midday meal on a windy, slightly rainy Sunday. Usually the gentrification restaurants in uptown Kingston have decent food, I was looking forward to my meal and a coffee. I ordered the Country Wrap and a coffee, very straightforward. I took my seat, and assumed that the coffee would be ready when they called my name for the food. Once my name was called and I retrieved my food from the counter, I hesitantly, but politely asked where the coffee is (I am a non-confrontational guy). I was informed that the coffee was self serve and saw behind me the coffee machines. This is my fault, I should have noticed the coffee pots when I walked in, but alas, I didn't notice until after I paid and left a tip, the percentage one would leave at a restaurant with full service. Once I got to my seat with my food and what I thought was a hot drink, I took a bite into my wrap. To my surprise it was mostly bulked up with sweet potatoes and eggs, two cheap staple foods, the bacon was noticeably sparse, and the kind that comes in industrial cardboard box that one might find in the chest freezer of a doomsday prepper, and the cheese was unnoticeable. I should have known something was wrong when I looked at the menu, again my fault, but I don't typically associate sweet potatoes with a "country breakfast", as those usually use a regular potato like a Yukon or Russet. I took my first sip of coffee approximately 5 minutes after I had dispensed it from the machine, it was slightly below room temperature. Now someone might ask "How could unrefrigerated coffee be BELOW room temperature?!?" Well the answer is that if you pour cold half and half into room temperature coffee, it will drop a few degrees. As I finished my meal and room temperature drink, and left the establishment, I noticed an "Equal Exchange" coffee sticker in the window, I did not feel like I had gotten an equal exchange for the approximately $15 + 25% tip I had paid. I felt a tinge of hypocrisy when I noticed how many stickers for progressive causes there were throughout the establishment, yet they are seemingly not paying their employees enough to the point that they feel the need to have a 25% preset tip option on the iPad that asks you a few questions, at a basically self service restaurant. read more

This place never ever disappoints. I usually get the southwestern wrap or jimmy pesto and a drink like the nutty professor smoothie or green monster juice. It is all so delicious. I have placed big orders for multiple people and they never make a mistake. The counter staff are very friendly. There is nice seating outside or you could take a walk with your food/drink and sit on a bench elsewhere in the area or stroll through the farmer's market nearby if it's a Saturday. Super cute spot, delicious food! I stopped here for lunch on a mini road trip and I was extremely impressed with the taste of my Market Salad! I added turkey on it and then also got an iced coffee! My only two issues with this place is the lack of seating and the lack of prices on any of the menus. While checking out the farmers market on a Saturday morning in town, we decided to grab breakfast at Sissy's Cafe. I was recommended to check it out a previous time by an Airbnb host from a prior visit. The cafe has a small section of seating inside to the right of the register and an outside eating area just in front as well. They have the menu posted on boards outside of the cafe as well as on the wall inside. By the register they may post an extra items that are also possible options. They serve mostly sandwiches, wraps and smoothies at the spot. Lots of the menu options sounded very interesting that it was a tough choice what to grab since a lot of the options sounded so good. I grabbed the Jimmy Pesto which was eggs, avocado and pesto in a wrap. It was delicious, creamy and filling. I also grabbed the mango lassi which was good, but I would more call it a mango yogurt smoothie. The consistency is not as smooth as a lassi drink to equate to it, but overall the taste was refreshing. The staff was nice and got the food to us pretty quick. They also are very popular since we saw many groups come in and out while dining there. We definitely will come back again in the future. read more

I wish I could have stayed a few more days just so I could try all of the options on the menu at Sissy's Cafe. Great place to stop and refuel if you're looking for an easy lunch for a road trip or day hike. Came on a blazing hot weekday around 1pm to find a line out the door. Definitely very popular. I will say that I tried placing an order online and it didn't go through so seems like the only options right now are in-person pick-up. Ordered the tuna wrap, green GOAT, and mango tango smoothie. The drink hit the spot, though very gingery - I love ginger and didn't mind at all. Have my eye on the Nutty Professor as a great post-hike treat. The sandwiches ... ugh, just go there, don't take my word for it. I'm going to try making the green GOAT at home. Goat cheese, avocado, basil pesto, sprouts, what's not to love? Also had a bite of the tuna wrap that my mom got. I liked how these were all fresh, filling, and relatively healthy. Good portion sizes too. What can I say? I love the breakfast burritos at Sissy's so much that I had breakfast here everyday of my trip to Kingston. Day One I had the Southwestern with Bacon on a Gluten Free Wrap (Egg, Cheddar, Avocado, Salsa, Beans) with AquaVitea Kombucha in Hibiscus Ginger Lime. Totally delicious and honestly the only time I've had a gluten free breakfast burrito ANYWHERE and it rocked. It even had the beautiful lines from the panini press! Day 2 I had the Country Burrito on the Gluten Free Wrap (Eggs, Cheddar, Bacon and Cajun Potatoes) with the freshly squeezed OJ. The Country Burrito is my new favorite--a perfect, simple breakfast that I can't wait to order again on my next trip to Kingston. The OJ was a delicious accompaniment. The staff is taking every COVID precaution: masks inside for all and strongly encouraged for guests, only outdoor seating for now (for reference it is late October '21). So happy to support this business and to return after coming here in February 2020, right before the pandemic hit. Now my question is: what brand of gluten free tortillas do they use? I also got some sort of a juice I think or a smoothie I can't remember but it was really good. And the place is cute and there's a secret map of Kingston in the bathroom that I'm sure is outdated but it literally has like phone numbers and everything and it was hand drawn and it reminded me of like shit we had to do before the Internet. Oh bad news!!!! I was in for lunch today to treat myself to my favorite sandwich at Sissy's. It's. FLT. Fakin bacon and lettuce and tomato. Well I got the small sandwich and was eating it and thought somethings not right and I looked and and there wasn't any fakin bacon it was just plain tempeh. Wow!! I told the waitress there wasn't any fakin bacon and she said they don't do that anymore!! I don't think it had tomato on it either. Huge Bummer.... and more importantly WHY????? Sissy's cafe certainly has its following as it was incredibly busy this morning. The existing customers all seemed to be enjoying their food. My girlfriend really enjoyed her sandwich. Everything seemed great for everybody except for me. I had the H.A.S. (hummus, avocado and sprout) sandwich on a plain bagel. It wasn't great. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't good. The hummus was warm and bland, the avocado was skimpy, and the sprouts, well, they're sprouts. They never really have much to add. The bagel was doughy and was not the best plain bagel I've ever had. Maybe I just had bad luck. With some proper seasoning, more avocado, a better bagel, the HAS would have been significantly better. The sprouts, well, they did their job. Maybe next time I'll try something else. read more
