This whole time, I really thought this place was inside a cozy hotel about 2 blocks over. Guess you learn something new every day. We pulled up on a Thurs. around 4 with no res. and got seated real quick. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Restaurant K. is airy, chic and gives a relaxed vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu is on the smaller side, but honestly, there's something for every eating style. We kept things light instead of diving into something heavy. Our spring greens salad was really good: hefty mound of mixed greens, lima beans, string beans and a hint of dill to make everything pop. Hubs had the double-stacked burger with white cheddar on a potato bun and loved it. I had high hopes for the hush puppies because they sounded amazing on paper- but they were doughy than corny and threw me off. Then came dessert. Again- sounded great on paper. It kinda feels like desserts get a "reinvented" treatment here(?). For instance, the strawberry shortcake was deconstructed: a few chunks of white cake, some diced strawberries and whipped cream. Totally unexpected. I ordered the 'Fun-Fetti Dunkaroos' with madeleines because they caught my eye, but they're smaller than standard. The food isn't bad at all. We were just caught off guard by how some of our selections were prepped. What really saved the evening were the cocktails. They were beautifully made and had a lot of strength. No watered-down nonsense here! Plus, our server Karina(?) was super sweet. Sat at the bar on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Carlos, the bartender, was fabulous. He was welcoming and talented. He made great cocktails and provided excellent suggestions when we were ready to order food. Ordered a bottle of bubbly; it was served after a 20-minute wait, and it was warm, so the first two flutes were a complete waste, while the rest of the bottle was ice-bucket-chilled table-side. The sommelier should never have served it in the first place - it was unethical, to say the least. The sommelier's excuse was that something was wrong with the refrigerator, yet the sparkling water bottle was chilled, so that was a lie. The $ 50.00 steak was rubbery, hard to cut with a knife, and impossible to chew. Sent it back. The salad and burger were OK. Got a complimentary appetizer with the Chef's apologies. At that point, the staff did their best to avoid our table, and I had to serve our own drinks. Super trendy spot in the heart of uptown Kingston. Stopped by for lunch with family and we loved everything! Service was a bit slow as they were short staffed, but we were understanding. We started with the side order of bread - a little steep at $10 for 4 pieces + butter but it was sooo good and just fresh out of the oven. We tried 2 cocktails and 1 mocktail - all had excellent flavors and were super refreshing. For our mains we had the smash burger, grain bowl + chicken, and lobster roll. The fries that came with the burger and lobster roll were seasoned nicely and had a nice crunch to them, but not overcooked. The burger and roll tasted fresh and had great flavor. Would definitely get again. The grain bowl was a good portion and was packed with various textures, which all came together nicely with the green goddess dressing! Definitely will be back! read more

During our first trip to the Hudson Valley, my partner recommended we go here though we were staying at an B&B close-by. Food: 3/5 Meh, for the price (see bill below), I was content but not particularly elated. Though, we got a good spread. Our favorite parts were the miso salad,nicely dressed and textural experience, and mushroom tacos. The tacos were flavorful and a nice vegan app to start the night. The rest was okay. Service: 3/5 When we entered, and left, there weren't many diners which should have been a sign. But, we stayed. Sadly, due to the large space, and we being place by the door, not by the kitchen or staff, we often were waiting to catch the sole server's attention for anything. Outside of the delayed response, it was disappointing that our server's warm-ness dissipated everytime they engaged our table. All in all, I won't make an effort to go back. The Hotel Kinsley Restaurant continues to impress. I patronized the hotel and restaurant a few months back over the winter for a quick weekend getaway. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dishes were excellent and the atmosphere was warm yet vibrant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Hotel guests receive a 10% discount at the restaurant so that was a nice incentive to dine. Seems like owners have finally given up on his hotel-restaurant in Kingston. It really could have been something special (see nearby Chleo). Last time we were there we vowed to never return (ordered two steaks, two completely different cuts of meat came out, from seemingly two different areas of the animal - they ended up not charging us for either steak, such a bizarre experience.) The food was delicious, but I only had the branzino and elote. Not a traditional Elote but I think I enjoyed that- something a little different (I love elotes and can eat them everyday). The branzino's skin was so crispy and at the same time easy to eat and not tough. The flavor was absolutely delicious and I would not normally eat cooked snap peas like this but I will be from now on. Our bartender, Luke, was awesome and so nice. You hopefully come to the Hudson Valley to enjoy what it has to offer, not to wallow in the worst aspects of New York City. The restaurant is a sloppy, second rate version of an NYC restaurant at NYC prices. Kingston and the Hudson Valley have many thriving, high quality places to eat -- including some "city-like" and less so -- so it's really a shame to indulge in a brunch where you're seated late, service is mixed, and the food is equally uneven (avocado toast, great, pancakes, bad). The smart-looking room falls apart when you see the stains on the ceiling, after waiting 30+ past your reservation. Kingston is a wonderful place, and deserves a fine hotel for people to enjoy. Sadly -- the restaurant at least -- isn't quite it. read more

We had such a great experience! We dined here and it all of the employees were so nice. We love that the restaurant is open pretty late, giving us an option to dine late in uptown. We could have stayed here all night, the food was delicious and the drinks were made strong but in a good way the deviled eggs were probably my favorite but everything was great. It is a chill atmosphere that looks pretty modern the building used to be a tank so we loved that appeal to it. They truly do an awesome job especially with the ambience, they also have outdoor seating which is on the road but they have made it really nice looking so I will be doing that next time I visit! read more

Excellent service and good food! We went for brunch as a family of 6 and our dog. Unfortunately, we booked for the outdoor patio but when we arrived it was thunderstorming so they let us sit inside with our dog. They were so kind about it and open to having the dog inside. The pancakes were delicious! I got the omelet gluten free and it was perfect! My husband enjoyed the miso salad and chicken. They also had mocktails which hit the spot! Wonderful place! Most items on the food can be modified to be made gluten free, but they do not have gf bread - this was not a deal breaker for us. We'll be back! read more

This has been our go to restaurant for years now and we have loved it each time, but this night was like no other. The hostess was super rude and wouldn't seat us for an half hour when the entire restaurant was totally empty. The menu was super abbreviated and even this items were sold out giving us a handful of items to choose from. The waitress was totally lost as he kept bringing other tables entrées to us and then collecting them. Overall we give it a F as all mahout points failed this evening. We went to the Kinsley Restaurant this evening with the expectation of having an amazing dinner experience based on the reviews. Unfortunately, what we got was average at best. We had the olives, the $10 bread, and the mushroom tacos for appetizers. Entrees were the salmon and their salad. Total bill without drinks was $150. The food was all mediocre. Everything in general was under seasoned, presentation was uninspiring, service was muted, and the overall experience was severely lacking considering the price tag. If you like to drop close to $200 with tip and have an amazing experience, may I recommend that you don't go to the Kinsley Restaurant. If you're in the area and would like a dining experience that is worth that price point, I'd suggest trying La Canard. While not the same cuisine, certainly a better bang for your buck. I had brunch with my parents at the restaurant today and could not believe the horrible customer service we received. We ordered the "Bottomless Brunch" for 25 USD and asked the waitress if it included a drink (from a choice of 3) plus a food item from the list and she confirmed. When the bill came we expected to pay 3 x 25 plus tax and tip, so around 100 USD so could not believe our eyes when the bill was 154 USD. We asked to speak to the manager and explained what happened. Instead of trying to find a solution / compromise and apologizing for the misunderstanding, she called her boss and then told us we had to pay or she was going to call the police. We never said we weren't going to pay, just did not agree with the amount, as it was different from what was understood and confirmed by the waitress. When the police arrived I explained the situation and they recommended we pay the bill and then email the manager to try to find an agreeable solution. As the owner was the one who told the manager to threaten with the police I do not expect the story to have a positive ending. Restaurant Hotel Kinsley just lost themselves some customers... but I do not think they care at all. Never going back. read more

Overall, a very poor restaurant experience. Service, food, management. To begin with the server didn't know her job. They didn't have our first choice for a bottle of wine, we picked another. It was mediocre, and was priced about twice its quality. She brought the bottle, poured out two glasses, I didn't get to taste before the pouring, and she didn't know how to pour, spilled wine on the table, and went away. We had to ask her to come back and wine up the spills. We asked for bread, it never arrived. We complained about the service to someone else, and luckily for us, they changed to a different server. The mussels were good, but a meager portion. Then on to the poor main course, duck. The food was not hot, the duck was overcooked, and tough and chewy. Truly lousy. We asked for the bill. When it came, the duck was priced at $40. I asked to see the menú, I saw the price of the duck was $36. I told the server that was very bad, and her response was, "You have no idea." Ate here this weekend and was pleasantly surprised. The food and place exceeded our expectations. The service was great, loved the vibe of the place and the food was absolutely delicious. We had the tuna tacos, the bread with straciatella, and the citrus salad to start. They were all incredible. The tuna tacos were super light and delicate. Perfectly balanced. The salad was the most visually stunning salad. A delight to our palates and eyes. And the bread was perfect. Nice crust and chewiness, perfect for scooping up the balsamic with straciatella. Our mains were the roasted chicken and burger. All delicious but we stuffed ourselves so much with the appetizers that we didn't have much room for the mains. Highly, highly recommended. I have been to this establishment exactly three times at the time of this review, but plan many more visits. I've always had great service, love the atmosphere, and the look of the place in summer and winter. The bar is great, fully stocked for all kinds of traditional drinks, and a menu of their own. I recommend the "garden party" for starters. While I hadn't planned to review this place, I was here on New Year's Eve Eve, and had the best steak of my life. That is saying something, as you'll see in my reviews, I have been to the top rated steakhouses from Brooklyn and Manhattan, to Tampa and Texas. My husband and I stopped here for brunch while running a few errands in Kingston; we were so happy that we did. The food, service and ambiance were all fantastic. It was a lovely fall day so we ate outside. I had the quinoa bowl and my husband had pancakes. The food was great, nothing was an afterthought. The veggies in the quinoa bowl were super fresh and the feta was so creamy. My husband raved about the pancakes; I could tell just by looking at them that they were perfectly cooked.
