I've been hanging out in Kingston for 10+ years and even though Stockade has been on my list the entire time, I keep forgetting. Sad that was the case!! Finally dropped in this weekend. First, the prices are excellent. A few drinks $10, and they're strong and tasty. I happened to luck out and it was also a Diego's taco pop-up night and I had some of their chicken tacos & beet tacos. We stopped by Stockade Tavern for drinks and a bite to eat before dinner. We sat at the bar, and it was the perfect place to hang out. There was a happy hour, and I got an old fashioned off of it. I liked that there was a decent amount of alcohol in the drink, but I felt that the flavors were basic. We also got the chicken pate, which I really enjoyed. I was so happy to find this place! Gorgeous, dimly lit and cozy bar with great cocktails to boot. The menu is inventive as the drinks are delicious. They have a happy hour with a house cocktail for $10 and it did not disappoint. The Por Mi Amor slushy...was a little spicy, sweet, but you can also taste the alcohol. Still thinking about that drink. The music was amazing and the staff, more so. We had a great time chatting it up with Paul, the owner, and AJ, the bartender on duty. They made us feel right at home. If you can appreciate a solidly crafted cocktail, come here. They have all the classics, some new ish, and others classics with a modern twist. Let me start off by saying that if I could straight up Superman lift this place off it's foundation and drop it in my backyard I totally would. And my wife wouldn't even be mad at me, because she though it was awesome too. The staff were super friendly and on top of their game on a busy Friday night. The ambiance and decor are exactly what a cocktail bar should be, dimly lit, dark woods everywhere, cool ceiling. I absolutely loved this place. My wife had the Hot Toddy, which she enjoyed so much she ordered a second. I stared out with the Cobra Fang, which was a delicious aged rum cocktail and then asked the bartender to whip me up a creamy dessert cocktail which she absolutely crushed. They have some small bites, which looked pretty good, but we only tried the apple cider donut as a light dessert. It was very good and was exactly what we needed after dinner. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you're a cocktail lover and find yourself in Kingston, you're a fool if you skip this one. read more

Stockade Tavern is one a few great places in Kingston to swing by if you're visiting, and if you're looking for the most popping spot in Kingston this is it! It's also located around the corner from the hotel Kingsley so you can definitely do both in one night. Surprisingly, it was packed on a Saturday night after Labor Day. They have a good drink menu set up along with a couple small bites. We enjoyed a couple cocktails here and tried their smoked eggplant baba ghanouj and the pretzel. The pretzel was totally amazing, and super cheap. If you need something to snack on definitely get it. read more

I think the stars aligned for us last night because we happened upon Stockade Tavern and now we have a new favorite "local" bar (uhhh if 45 minutes away is local. I like to pretend it is). Stockade has everything going for it: -dark and dreamy vibes -vintage bar appeal (I love staring at the ceiling) -craft cocktails without an ounce of pretension -a superb Beaujolais by the glass -vegan options for light bites on the menu -expert bartenders who are also personable My husband and I sat at the bar and made an immediate friend, which more of his thing than mine (that is, socializing with strangers at a bar) but hey, if it that's an important criteria for you when bar hopping, come here because I can't say that happens too frequently up here around these parts (we mostly go out in Beacon). Damn, this place makes me happy! It's utterly fucking perfect, if you must know my true feelings. Used to be five stars meant "doesn't get any better than this," and I think that's better than merely "great." So I'm spelling it out for you. If you are not white stay away from this place, upon entering I was greeted by a panicked woman that came around the bar to warn me and my party that they could not make cocktails for 10 people, and could only serve us beer. Fine, most of the party wanted beer anyway but as I ordered my cocktail the second bartender, an older man encouraged that we leave and go to another bar. They did everything in their power to make us uncomfortable to the point where we did what they wanted and left after 1 drink. We visited Kingston twice last year (such a cool town, it made us wanna move there) and both times, we hit up the Stockade Tavern for pre-dinner cocktails. Seriously, this is one of my top 3 favorite cocktail bars I've ever been to and I'm a cocktail fanatic. Great chill atmosphere, friendly and cool bartenders, and omg what a selection of delicious libations. The first time, my wife had the Peter Rabbit, which featured chamomile-infused vodka and vanilla. Astonishing. Mine (the Brother Bruno) was almost as good. Creamy and green, with chartreuse and pistachio. On our next visit, I sampled the Devil's in the Details (tequila, crema de mezcal, Braulio, calvados, Lillet, Aperol). Sipping it was like an autumn woods walk in a glass. Can't wait to go back next time we are in Kingston. read more

One of my top 5 favorite bars in the Hudson Valley! The ambiance is great for a date night or catching up with a friend! small bites and incredible drinks! the kind of place I'd trust the bartender to bring me anything and I know I'd be happy with it! July 11, 2024. We went back for our second year in a row. Sadly, their AC was out on a muggy evening but no matter - fans, smiling staff, and GREAT cocktails made life good. I had one beer and a bunch of water one night. The bartender spilled water all over the bar when he tried to top me off, he got super upset with himself over this. When my friend offered to buy me a shot, the bartender said "no you are cut of". Cool, I dont even drink a full beer and I am done? Maybe the bartender should have been cut off.... dont drink on the job. Edit: Paul, your response is a blatant lie. I was not drunk, I was the D.D. That is why I only ordered one light beer and did not finish it. That is also why I told my friend I didn't want a shot right before you said I was cut off. Responding to yelp reviews saying "you were drunk and embarrassing" or "you were drunk and puked in your boyfriend's lap" when people clearly state they have only had one drink, will not negate a poor rating. You are obviously rude in person and online and this will prove to harm your bussiness. read more

I ordered a really simple drink because it was early and I really just wanted to sit and check out the place. I became enchanted sitting in this simple but very beautiful room and reading the interesting menu, and watching the bartender pour drinks. I made a vine that is still getting tons of views and retweets a month later. I will return and have a "real" drink as soon and I get a chance. But whoever created this tavern did a great job. I came back (a few time with friends) since the review above. Still is a GEM in Kingston - and in The HUDSON VALLEY. I've ordered a couple of appetizers and they have all been great. Loved the charm of this place! The original tin ceiling gave the place a warm, historic feel. The staff were friendly and the drinks menu was expansive. Normally I'm all about guzzling Johnny Bootleggers and dressing like an asshole. However, from time to time, I've been known to swap my old lady jackets for an actual blazer and my gas station booze for a proper cocktail. When I like to pretend I'm a normal, respectable 36 year old adult, this is a great place to do it. Like the other reviews say, Stockade Tavern has a dark, mature, sophisticated vibe with plenty of great cocktails and small snack options.
