Came here after a nice Hudson river cruise for a late lunch. We were looking for something light. We sat outside and our female waitress was very sweet and helpful. We ordered a salmon burger to share and a side of greens. It was an expected huge fillet, unlike the usual " burgers" I have gotten. It was light but filling. The meal at this restaurant was top-notch. I also enjoyed a delicious cocktail. We dined at a table right by the window, so there was a view of the water. My first server was polite and informative. I asked for sea scallops, but they were never brought out; since I was not charged, I guess it's a moot point. He left mid service and I was given another waitress. She was very rude from the moment that she had to take over serving our table. I don't know why but that was my experience. Also the wait time to get the check was far too long. Being that we were about 5ish minutes away returning a U-Haul truck we'd reserved in White Plns, coming to Ship To S. on Strand St in Kingston, was a no-brainer. Plus, it was also highly recommended by one of the staff over at Woodstock Spa. Ship To S. has the feel of an old-school steakhouse+seafood restaurant that may not be old- but eating here, felt like we stepped back in time. The woods (but not just any 'wood') that filled this space and on the floor, that large bar that looks comfy and oh...the beautiful dim lighting. It's like a rabbit warren inside, with some tables squeezed into little nooks and crannies. All the couples looked like they're having affairs. Plus, this passed my 'let's get stuck in here during a rain or snowstorm' test. Our Caesar Salad and Tomato+Saffron Seafood soup starters were tasty and abundant. I rarely go for an Old-Fashioned cocktail, but their "Ho Ho Holiday" version, had a cranberry reduction that was oh so heavenly. Hubs had a Hot Toddy- though I'm used to seeing all the components that make up the drink already in the glass: the lemon, cinnamon stick(s) and sometimes a tea bag. Not here. My twin Lobster Tails were perfectly broiled. The warm butter was another highlight on my dish- but I really didn't need it because my lobsters had wonderful juiciness and natural sweetness to them. Hubs enjoyed his pasta+seafood mix in all its glory. The music playlist was a classic mix of my fave Jamiroquai with Kool & The Gang and R&B...yes, in this restaurant. With the exception of a few 2-3 star reviews, everything else is correct: service was incredible, our meals were tasty, drinks powerful and our guy Tyler, was on his toes the entire time. read more

Monday night (after 5pm) is Burger and Brew night. A nice pub type atmosphere. A good selection of beers on tap. The hamburger is huge (prepare to use many napkins, it's sloppy), cooked as requested and very good. It comes with either a salad or fries. Lets start with the so called salad. Well, it was on the plate with the hamburger almost as a garnish. It was a mix of salad greens with a dressing on it. That's it! Could they at least put a tomato on it! The fries were just that, fries, good but nothing special. We also ordered a side of spinach which was extremely salty. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. Would I go back? On Saturday, June 7th my wife made a reservation for 7 pm. We arrived and sat at our table and I ordered the Black Cod special. I love black cod and I have cooked much of it over the years. The dish came, and to be honest the first thing it looked like the cod was overcooked. I took my first bite of the fish and spat it out immediately. The fish was off and really fishy. It was all I could do to not throw up. Nothing worse for me than fish that is not fresh. I told my waitress and she immediately tried to tell me that black cod has a fishy taste and the chef had stated that. I was pretty upset as I know I was being given lip service. I went to chef school, and I cook a lot of black cod; I am extremely familiar with the fish. It is a sweet buttery fish that has a rich flavor and texture, and when fresh is NEVER fishy tasting. The fact that the waitress tried to tell me that this was the way it supposed to be was insulting. I orded as steak in replacement which was OK but average. I will never eat here again. Came here for the first time to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was a pleasant experience. We had reservations for Saturday night and were seated on the patio. It was a nice setting in the center of Kingston. We started out with a bottle of white wine and ordered mussels and squid calamari for apps. They were tasty. For entrees both hubby and I got the branzino which was also tasty. For dessert, we ended with the mango cheesecake, which was different and refreshing. My friend & I had the prix fix lunch menu, but their regular menu items & cocktails were just so enticing--limoncello mascarpone cheesecake, anyone?--that I had to add a few of those as well. The space is _really_ visually interesting. An old building in that row of 19th-century commercial edifices facing Roundout Creek, all polished wood & what looked to be the original stamped-tin ceiling. We had a party of 6 and all of us had very mixed reviews of Ship to Shore! To start I really loved my strawberry cocktail, super light and refreshing. Nice cocktail menu and there was something for everyone. I had a delicious scallop dish with an Asian type glaze and veggies- I looooved this dish and found the scallops to be cooked to perfection. Others at the table had the scampi, sauasage pasta dish, filet mignon and the fish and chips. They were out of the branzino which was a disappointment! Some of the table enjoyed their meals but others noted bland/lack luster meal- most noteably the scampi was under seasoned and sauce-less. Elevated prices, prime location, and warm vintage intimate vibe inside. I'm not sure I would head back to Ship to Shore just based on the mixed feedback, but I might try for burger night or another special occasion. read more

Last Thursday evening, we stayed in Kingston while traveling. The woman at the front desk of our hotel recommended Ship to Shore when I said we like seafood. First thing to note is that there is a paid parking lot nearby, but you do not have to pay after 6 pm. We had no reservation and the rather small restaurant was crowded, but we got a table near the back for two. Raya was our very attentive and friendly waitress. We had eaten a big lunch, so skipped appetizers and salads. We ordered Bronzino on the regular menu and a Sole and shrimp in skillet special. These entrees were delicious, complimented by a bottle of white wine. When we returned to the Hampton Inn, I thanked the woman at the front desk for an excellent recommendation. We stopped in here for lunch on a Sunday, and they were offering a brunch menu, but also allowed us to order from the regular dinner menu. I didn't really see anything on the menu that interested me, so I only ordered an appetizer of Tempora Shrimp. There were five small fried battered pieces that came out undercooked and lukewarm, which were heated properly after asking our server to correct the issue. The wife had the Tomato Saffron Seafood Soup, which was excellent. I also had a Moscow Mule, which had about three times as much lime juice as it should have.
