The Corner is a gem with excellent service, delicious farm-to-table food, a beautiful atmosphere and unique surroundings. We sat outside on the front porch and were able to capture the true Tivoli experience of neighbors walking by and waving to one another, families out together, people with their pets and an absolutely beautiful evening. We had a small dinner of apps and recommend them all. The lamb skewers were the perfect size and had an amazing dipping sauce. We also had the misto spring vegetables, which like all their veggies, came straight from The Corner's farm. They were perfectly fried so that the vegetables were tender and crispy. This place is such a gem. Extremely quaint hotel bar and restaurant, with great food and super friendly staff. We sat at the bar, we were served promptly, and we enjoyed both cocktails and food. Off the bar menu, we ordered wings, zaatar fries, and hummus. All were delicious and tasty. Great patio outside as well. We have dined out there before. Delightful restaurant in the quaint town of Tivoli. Wonderful ambiance with local artists displayed on the walls to the handmade dishes. All this before the menu piques your curiosity! The price to quality ratio seems extremely lopsided, even for this area. You'd pay about the same in an airport and find the same quality food. Even though our meal required minimal preparation, the kitchen had somehow found a way to skip some steps. The service, while polite, was admittedly overwhelmed even though there were several empty tables. I found little redeeming here aside from the nice decor and sunny patio. If you're in Tivoli and have time to spare I'm sure it's fine. Other patrons seemed to be enjoying the offering. Expect the equivalent of a lackadaisical picnic, but with table service. read more

We popped in to grab a few drinks before dinner in town and fell in love with the place. We were greeted by a happy and stylish staff that fit right into the environment. The menu has tasty morsels and had we not made prior engagements, the dinner menu would be spot on. We did get a dozen oysters that was served on a bed of seaweed with Prosecco mignonette. To make a long story short, the waitress of our 10 person birthday celebration tried to take away someone's dish while they were still eating it. The birthday girl was sitting there and touched the waitresses hand and said please don't take that. The waitress freaked and immediately received an apology. Meal is done and bill is paid (and tip). We begin to leave and the manager chooses to take the birthday girl aside to tell her she shouldn't touch the staff. WTF!!!! Wait person got an apology but chose to tell the manager and manager feels the need to tell her. Well now that expensive wonderful dinner will now be remembered as the ridiculous evening when a terrible waitress got a great tip and the manager doubled down and insulted a customer. We won't be coming back. I am now responding to management. Your staffs hand was not smacked. I saw what happened. It should never have been an issue as the person in question apologized instantly. Every once in awhile you as a place of business should know when to pick your arguments. We were easy customers even as a party of 10. And honestly what you do with the gratuity is up to you. I'm glad you are that secure that you don't think you owe the person you confronted an apology. read more

The kitchen is 5+ star-worthy -- seasonal, uber-creative and delicious. I'm a big fan of the chef. The food experience makes it worth it to go there -- for brunch or dinner. BUT the service is horrendous. It's like they stopped passersby and asked if they want to help out bringing out dishes. The hostess subbed as server and seemed to be totally uninterested in our dining experience. Weird. It seems the chef needs to sit down the staff pre-service and get them psyched about their role in serving up a dining experience that matches the high quality of the food. The bar is beautiful and the bartender very professional, friendly and competent, including offering to make me a mocktail which was inventive and delicious. I had a better time at the bar than at our dining table. This could be a fine dining experience except for the service which is lackadaisical. But go anyway! Also the owner's art design screams: LOOK AT THE ART! It looks like an art gallery rather than a designed restaurant -- garish rather than polished design. Well, good things never last I guess. Went to THE CORNER for a second night in a row, since our first night was fantastic. Food was on par again like the first night, however the service was terrible. This unfortunately due to the fact that the manager, a woman named Janett, was our server instead of an actual server. Which, by the way were all amazing. This manager however was not. Super snobby and pretty much disappeared once she sat us down. Absolutely terrible service with a really bad attitude. We had to politely ask two other servers for help at different times. Went from hero to zero in my opinion. Only dropping my review to four stars instead of five due to the fact everything and everyone else was great, as expected from our first experience. I don't know if this woman was new, in a bad mood or just a total snob but unfortunately we didn't return on this visit. We will come back again. Hopefully dodging this employee. read more

Very Good We stayed at the Hotel Tivoli for the weekend and this restaurant is on the bottom level. The bar is very nice. The restaurant and bar staff were all very nice. The restaurant food was quite nice. Nothing was particularly memorable, but it was an enjoyable evening. read more

Rude. Racist. I made reservations at The Corner a couple weeks out, asked for a table outside. The woman on the phone said she would make a note of it. I got to the restaurant today a few minutes earlier than the reservation, and was happy to see there were plenty of two tops that were sitting empty on the patio. When we got to the hostess stand, the woman (didn't catch her name, but older, blonde with eyelash extensions) insisted on ignoring me in favor of the white woman who walked in *after* I did. This woman was easily led to a table outside. The hostess then deigned to turn back to me and when I gave her my name she said, "Your table will be inside." When I told her I had requested a table on the patio she looked it up and said, "Right. There is a note of the request but we don't make guarantees and the doors are all open on the inside and if it's a dealbreaker you can go." She was INCREDIBLY rude and dismissive. I just want to point out here first that even if the seating isn't guaranteed, there were plenty of empty two tops and we were there first. By the way I am writing this review about 20 minutes *after* our reservation and there are STILL three empty two tops on the patio. So clearly it speaks volumes of whose request she is choosing to honor, even with reservations. Obviously we chose not to eat here, will avoid in the future, and recommend other people do the same. This is extremely disappointing because I had heard great things about this place and was looking forward to it during our whole birthday trip. Racism doesn't have to be overt- it is in the everyday dismissive/rude behaviors and actions, and I hope this woman/The Corner/Hotel Tivoli can reflect on this incident and grow from it. Honestly I would give this place zero stars if I could. ---- Updated to reflect the business manager's response. I don't think you understand what the actual issue is here. The issue is that Susan (I think that was her name) was rude to us in the first place- I would suggest you reread the fact that she was dismissive from the moment I walked into the restaurant, reservations aside. Additionally, when I posed the question regarding the outside tables, from jump she did not offer us a solution and no wait time for an outside table was offered to us. If at that time a solution was posed, perhaps we *might* have taken it. Instead, she was dismissive, telling us "if it's a dealbreaker, feel free to leave." Your "help" was posed to us nearly 40 minutes later. We noticed 20 minutes later that the very same tables that were refused to us were still open and then 40 minutes later the exact same tables were still open- this was when out of curiosity, my partner sought answers, and went over Susan's head to speak to you. Additionally, your idea of "help" was telling us to "take walk, cool down and come back in maybe 30 minutes" - the issue wasn't us eating there (because at that point, we'd already decided we did not wish to give you our business, which my partner actually reiterated). This isn't help; it's actually adding insult to injury. To imply in your response that somehow our "misunderstanding" was what caused our mistreatment and we were somehow at fault is incredibly condescending. All of this could have been avoided had your staff 1. Not been rude in the first place choosing to ignore me when I walked in and asking to help a white woman who clearly was waiting behind me, and 2. If your staff had been solutions oriented in the first place instead of basically telling us to take it or leave it. lTo your point, I understand that humans make mistakes; maybe Susan was having a rough day, maybe you didn't understand what was happening at the moment. However, your tone deafness even in this review is actually more offensive than the actual incident and doesn't get to the heart of the matter which was your server's dismissive and rude attitude. read more

This restaurant generally has excellent food, and a wonderful artistic decor, very sophisticated. This time the service was only OK. Unfortunately on our last visit the manager or head waiter decided to seat two families, each one with small children, right next to us. The kids were badly behaved, they had a good time climbing on the tabletop We made a strong complaint, and the manager finally moved us to a different room. The food overall was good not great. But I will not be going back there, since they obviously are popular with affluent families who think of restaurants as their evening playgrounds for the children. read more

A disappointing meal. Chicken tagine was watery, stringy and flavorless--nothing like what an excellent tagine can be! Ravioli entree was a small plate and also not particularly flavorful. Spinach side was okay, but heavily salted. Ice cream sundae was a non-event. We've enjoyed this restaurant in other years but won't be returning again as the food was very lackluster--and who needs that? The best part was a delicious proseco + cassis + orange peel cocktail I asked the bartender to prepare. That worked. Oh, and dinner took about an hour to arrive. read more

LOVE this place. They have a fantastic patio best suited for a lazy Sunday afternoon brunch. Of course I sat outside and basked in the sunshine. Everything here came down to the smallest details like the water carafes to the linens.. They made all the difference.. If you are like me, and are very observant and curious by nature - you'd love this place. They have little quirky and spunky things happening everywhere that'll keep you on your toes. The artwork sprawled around the whole restaurant was like being in a mini gallery! And If upon first entering.. And you are not instantly in love by the warmth and spunk of it all.. Then let the food change your mind- really quickly! The bread basket.. They bake all of the breads (and pastries)! And make all of the jams! In house.. I couldn't put my finger on which I liked most, but I remember enjoying the pumpkin bread with cinnamon butter..This is a menu item- that on paper - is very simple but they really nailed it here. The bread basket is decadent and memorable and I am pretty sure I could eat this bread basket for the rest of my life! For entrees we had the chickpea fava fritters with a lemon pimenton. Really tasty, and packed with really great flavors. Surprisingly filling for an appetizer! We also shared the grass fed, red potato hash. Also, a huge portion! There's a song I love (from one of my favourite singers, Marian Call) about life on the road; in a key lyric, the band notes that they're going through the pain for "those moments of transcendence." That's a lot of what I hope for in restaurants: I'll tolerate a lot if there's a stunning high note somewhere. Well, The Corner had one: a burger (no, really) that made _both_ Jenny and I stop and say 'wow.' Perfect texture, deep rich taste, really just superb. And yet: they get two stars. Why? Because I have not been so disappointed in a meal for a long time. It's a consequence of expectations. The reviews were great, the building and room enjoyable and bright. The meal came after a splendid Neil Gaiman talk at Bard College... it had been a great day and I really wanted a great meal. Wine offerings are very limited, but both of our glasses (a greek red and a s[arkling rose) were good.. ok then. The problem? Everything other than that burger was actively mediocre. A flourless chocolate cake that never stepped out of corporate soullessness, paired with meringue sticks that were dry and pointless. A duck egg carbonara - how do you make carbonara meh?! - that was praised by the waitress, cost $23, and yet managed to be both poorly cooked (the pasta almost raw in places) and damn near flavourless. That takes active, premeditated avoidance of taste. [To be fair, it was better as leftovers after a couple of days in the fridge; but that's itself hardly praise.] Chickpea fritters with little or no taste other than the oil of frying and the mayo of a sauce - again, I was astonished at the ability of the kitchen to seemingly extract and remove flavour. So - sorry, but no second chances here: we'll not go back. That one instant of glory is not enough to justify the pity at what might have been. read more

We, A party of four, stopped by on a Sunday for lunch. This s restaurant is connected to the Tripoli Hotel. Unfortunately we didn't have a good experience. The staff were friendly, but it came unravel from there! We ordered Hamburgers, done medium well. Our friend's arrived as requested. Mine was medium rare to rare. Yuck! Since we didn't see any staff until our meal was finished , I couldn't send it back for further cooking. Therefore, I had no lunch. When we asked for a check, the waiter offered to have the meat cooked. We were ready to leave! Really?!?! Anyway, just skip this place. We always enjoy our meals here. It's a very relaxed place with good food and beautiful decor. We make a habit of ordering a salad or a mezze platter then the roast chicken, followed by a chocolate cake or the dusty miller sundae. We leave very happy. My daughter, whom recently moved to the area, had the ravioli entree. She loved it...!!!! I must say, yes, the ravioli is good but SMALL. She had a side order of the corn (Mexican corn) as an app which came out late; after dinner. The staff were very humble & took it off the bill...we did not complain about it...they just did it. OK...besides the high prices...I found the food to be a bit salty (I don't add salt to my food)...or it might have been the lime juice which seemed to be used too much...??? But certain entrees do need this acidity. I cook so I understand. I would return....SOON I hope...!!! I am definitely a fan...!!! Don't know where these people come up with negative ratings. Sure, it's a bit slow but everything is cooked/made fresh. AS for someone commenting "NYC standards" or whatever...YOU'RE NOT in NYC...!!! After 15 minutes sitting there without being acknowledged, we got up and went down the street to the pub. Went last weekend before our event at the Bard Fisher Center. Loved the bread & the bone soup. My 3 table mates were happy with their meals. They had Pastas, (which dominated the menu.) Not a pasta eater, my choices were limited, so got the trout which was just OK. However, a trip to one of the bathrooms was worth the visit, though next time, I'll just get a drink at the bar, which has a nice scene. (BTW, our table in the main room with the bar was very noisy). I've since become obsessed with French vintage wallpaper & at Thanksgiving, found out that Brice Marden owns the establishment, so that explains the decor. read more

Thank you so much for a fantastic dinner experience! Of all the aspects of our 3-day conference, I received more compliments on The Corner experience than anything else. I'm so jealous!!!! Our "happy hour" at the bar was so pleasant! Your bartender was sociable and attentive, and we had a lot of fun when she took our group photos. The Chatham Dry Irish Stout was superb. Well chilled and served in a tumbler. I'll be back just to have another one of those. Your décor is always captivating and a conversation starter. The place settings were exquisite and made everyone feel special. The service was spot-on: two servers plus yourself was a perfect number; food and drinks were so professionally served - warm, with a smile and happy to help with a special request. And, it almost goes without saying, the food was artful and delicious! People raved about the shrimp bisque and kale salad. Even those of us with more conservative palates were delighted to enjoy chef's spicy rendition of spaghetti. I had the fish of the day which was excellent. And I keyed on the Spaniard in our group (she had recently returned from vacation back home) and noted that she also had the fish and was duly impressed. Dessert put us in chocolate heaven. My girlfriend and I went in for a drink and an app at the bar and stayed for entrees and dessert. The squid was fantastic and original. The blowfish was simple and delicious. The ice cream and sorbet were tasty as hell. The chamomile ice cream especially caught my attention. The ambiance is casual, chic but not stuffy. A nice t-shirt is fine. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They were even quick to answer my questions about the excellent music selection. We had a bizarre experience there last night. The server was cold and robotic. First, just after we were seated, our 21 year old daughter ordered a drink and, with no hesitation or humor , the server carded her. We felt that was rude, since we, her parents, were clearly comfortable with her ordering a drink. Then, dinner was served, and my portion, of the special, cod, was minuscule - maybe 4 ounces of fish, for $32. I was hungry, and visibly/vocally shocked, as were my husband and daughter. Her pasta portion, by the way, was also served in an appetizer-sized bowl. The food was delicious, but the sizes were outrageous. The server barely bat an eyelash when we clearly expressed our shock. She mouthed an apology but made no offer of amends. It would have been classy and dare I say standard, at an elegant or well-run restaurant, to present a complementary dessert or perhaps after-dinner drink- some gesture to leave us with a good taste and lasting positive impression. It never occurred to her. Instead, astonished, we explained that we were locals, not tourists, and she bizarrely said "I know who you are." What? I said "who are we?" And she said that the chef knew us. We don't know the chef. It was all extremely strange and a pity because the restaurant is in all other ways beautiful, if a bit pricey and pretentious. Stayed here for the weekend. Super friendly staff who seemed overjoyed to let my dog stay there too. Ate brunch at the restaurant today and the polenta, sausage and eggs were fantastic. I've had many, many great meals at the Corner. The chicken tajine is absolutely amazing--to the point that it has been difficult for me to ever order anything else! If you're not in the mood for chicken, the hamburger au poivre is always a sure bet. And for the best broccolli of your life, order the pan roasted romanesco, followed by the sour dough with ricotta. It's beautiful, nice art and ambiance. Service mediocre for the $$$$$ until they realized how mortified we were by the portions. Then they checked every four minutes to see if it was enough food, which it wasn't. We laughed about where to go for part two.. The appetizers were homeopathic for supermodels. We ordered three plates for eight of us and the charcuterie had four green beans, and about eight quarter and dime sized salamis. We will be laughing about this evening meal for ever!
