(Not so) Hidden gem! We had a great dinner at Rock Da Casbah on a Saturday evening - we called ahead for a reservation just in case and they were happy we did. Seating is limited. There was fun live music and a very chill atmosphere- staff were incredibly friendly and laid back. Only negative was there did not appear to be A/C on and there was a smoky haze from the kitchen, but propping open the door helped a bit. The menu was surprisingly expensive end unique including homemade pasta - huge props to the vegan and GF options - our friend who has celiac was able to eat and had many choices! Everything was fantastic, though we missed having a sauce (ranch or sour cream) for our disco fries. The coolest menu was the cocktail and mocktail menu - so many drink options, tons on tap and apparently drinks to go?! This is definitely a place to try for a fun cocktail! read more

Highly recommend!! We came here for drinks and dinner and it was such a great spot! The live music was great, the decor was so fun, and the service was so welcoming and friendly. They have such a great menu and many drinks available. We got the potstickers to share and they were really unique and very yummy. The burger was also fantastic and gone in minutes!! And the pastas were delicious as well. The Charlie Brown IPA was also great but they have an extensive list of drinks. There are vegan and gluten free options as well. Id highly recommend coming with a group or even solo and enjoying the place! read more

Perfect little lunch after a day of strolling and shopping in saugerties. We decided on a few small Plates and split the jerk chicken sandwich. The focaccia bread that the sandwich was served as and accompanied the magic mushrooms- incredible. Meant to ask if it's baked in house but forgot- but inspired to start baking some!! The Asian wings are probably the best wings I've ever had. At first I was afraid I wouldn't care for them as they seemed to have a strong all spice aroma but the blend of spices is just perfect. Disco fries were very tasty- would definitely go for the black bean chili after tasting it on the disco fries. The mushrooms are a bit heavy on the thyme but delicious. From the minute my wife and I walked in- we knew we made the right choice. We are a Queer POC couple from NJ/NY that did a last minute trip to the area. Googling places to eat- we decided on Rock Da Casbah. We got a friendly and warm welcome from Kim- who took care of us. We also got to enjoy a great karaoke performance of another local - Flynn. Saugerties was bumping on a Saturday night in mid-October. My mom and I came in to Rock Da Casbah after being told at another restaurant that we would have to wait an hour and a half to get a table. We walked in to Rock Da Casbah and was asked if we had reservations. We said we didn't, but it didn't matter because we were asked which of the two tables that were open we would want to sit at, and were seated immediately. We picked the table away from the singing duo, so we could converse better. It was pretty awesome being in a restaurant and listening to live music, as that is extremely rare back home during COVID. It was like pre-COVID. Carefree and fun. The service was good. The only complaint is that it took us a while to get the the attention of our waitress to obtain the check, but other than that, it was fine. Also, my mom ordered two old fashioned drinks. The first one was done right, the second one my mom said did not even remotely taste like an old fashioned. So, we really aren't sure what it was. I had the fried chicken and it was delicious. It was moist and crispy and flavorful. My mom had a beef dish and really enjoyed it. I liked the decor and it was hippie and also fun. I especially liked the guitar chairs. I was feeling the vibes in the place. I wish this place was closer to home, because I feel like this could be a fun place to get a drink and stay for dinner on a monthly basis. So glad i popped into Da Casbah! Was looking for an interesting place to take my out of town guest for lunch and a drink. I've lived within walking distance of Rock Da Casbah for 4 months, but never went inside.. I'm so glad i did. The magic mushrooms and the cream of mushroom soup were amazing. My friend had a pulled pork sandwich which he was very pleased with. The atmosphere was unique and artsy. Beautiful original art on the walls too. Our server, Jill , was very friendly and welcoming. i am going back for sure real soon. Maybe even tomorrow! I can't stop thinking about those mushrooms! read more

Man, if you like a place with an artistic, funky vibe, cool-yet-warm staff, and vegan friendly but oh-so-delicious meat dishes, this may be the perfect place for you. We went yesterday for a late lunch, and started with this Mushroom Soup--that was filled with not just yummy mushroom slices, but a ton of chopped garlic and one hell of a flavor. Yummmm! We ate at like 2pm, and that garlic was still repeating on my wife at dinner time (and she had maybe half of my bowl of soup!). Glad I ordered that. The Magic Mushroom dish there is infamous from the reviews here on Yelp, so there was no way I was leaving Saugerties without trying that. It didn't disappoint, but wasn't nearly my favorite thing there. My daughter had a vegan Impossible Burger (the waitress tells us that some people still don't realize that they're ordering a plant-based burger... really people? Come on!) with disco fries. The chili on those disco fries has a really strong flavor... way to go! I just finished her Impossible Burger for breakfast the following morning and I do say, good stuff. My wife and I had the sliced Short Rib sandwich. Along with the soup, that thing was the best. The sliced pork was really soft, and when you throw some of their horseradish mayo stuff on there, WOW. That was the shete. I totally forgot about the Springsteen Roll! It's a spring roll (or two?)... it was pricey for a small portion, but that's "Tapas" for you. I have to say though, it was worth it. Check out one of the photos here on Yelp (from other users) of this dish. When you try the ginger-based sauce in the center (nice presentation!), damnnnnnnnn.... killer. Perfectly done. Loved the vibe in this place and the bartender who didn't miss a beat, seating people, taking orders and mixing up drinks. We had two excellent drinks and four appetizers that were delicious. The psychedelic mushrooms were incredible and served with a delicious bread. Also had the shrimp skewers, the spring rolls, and the Disco fries. All were great! This is the "funkiest" spot in Saugerties. It's like they took a restaurant from the east village in NYC circa 1993, picked it up and dropped it off on Main St. It's a small but cozy spot that has good vibes. On weekends there is usually an acoustic musical act singing classic rock and it totally fits the vibe. The cocktails are a mix of classics and funky drinks that tend to have a heavy pour as the night moves along. The menu is overall a gastropub style with some flare. The fried chicken is a local favorite and there is always a few different vegetarian or vegan dishes to choose from. Service is friendly and laidback. However if you are in a quick let's eat and bail timeline then save this place for another night. The beer is excellent. We had the Mac and Cheese appetizer (delicious). I had the burger (mushrooms and pepper Jack, at Kim's suggestion - excellent). And my companion had the short rib sandwich. I took my husband here for his birthday and we had a wonderful experience and amazing dinner. We live in Beacon and wanted to spend the day in Saugerties and have dinner. We are both vegan and this restaurants menu had plenty of vegan options, so I made a reservation on Google. The owner greeted us at the door and gave us a great table by a window. We were able to have our dog with us as they are pet friendly. We ordered a salad that was very fresh and delicious and the magic mushrooms. All made vegan. The mushroom dish is divine and our dog was even enticed by the smell and wanted some. We then ordered one of the pasta dishes since the pasta is homemade in house. I highly recommend this as it was fantastic and we ordered a second pasta dish since it was so good. All dishes can be made vegan and served single portion or family size which is a great option for a larger party. We finished off the meal with the vegan tye dye cheesecake and coffee and felt really satisfied with the taste, freshness and quality of our dinner. We will definitely be back! read more

Hit this place up for "brunch" on the Garlic Festival weekend, and while they don't have traditional brunch per se, we found plenty of options to create a really lovely first meal of the day. The ambience of this lovely place is rock hippy awesome. Music posters and a guitar hanging on the wall, '60s and '70s photographs and vintage Moroccan lamps over the bar fully support the hippy chic vibe. Judy behind the bar seals the deal, she's legit. We started with a pumpkin cider, and Frank's most of it before settling on a hodgepodge of selections from the small plates, soup, salad and entree options. Brunch was as follows: pumpkin curry soup, magic mushrooms, kale salad and short rib sandwich. All shared. Bonus: Chef's mom and dad came in a few minutes after we did, (visiting from Cali, what a trek for breakfast!) and so we were pretty sure he'd give it a good go to show off. Turns out they were adorable as all get out so that was a bonus too. Magic mushrooms almost made me cry. Beautiful in the plate and the balsamic was rendered and melded perfectly. The shrooms were deep black and so umami.....,great chew still in them though. Toast points were the perfect side for this. We literally stopped up every last drop of marinade on the plate. Pumpkin soup with toasted bread was delish. So many delicate flavors in such a hearty purée! I really wish the chef had heated it up a few more degrees, it was served just a smidge cooler than I'd like. For a fall dish I really want to feel the physical warmth. In all fairness, we were the first customers of the day and every great soup needs to have been marrying in the pot a day at least, so I assume it just hadn't been brought to temp yet. Color and flavor were delightful, and the portion was generous. Kale salad is my boyfriend's go-to, and it proved the perfect counterpoint to the heavy, attention-commanding short rib. It was definitely leaning more toward a pot roast flavor/texture rather than the sweeter treatments I sometimes see, and I approve! The aioli on the side let's you control the sauciness of this sandwich, the focaccia is heavenly and the cheese is generous and delightful. Kale salad was light, citrusy, nutty. Just a great, solid version of a classic. We split all four dishes, plus a beer flight, which was the perfect amount for the two of us. We lingered, with no rush from Judy, and eased right in to the day. I know that there are more traditional brunches right across the street but this more eclectic approach was exactly what we were looking for. read more

Well I normally am not a fan of poor reviews but the night we were there the service was not very good. They moved our entire table and our food was delayed as well as coming out at different times. The music was too loud (it doesnt need to be amplified as the room is quite small). The food was only middle ground unfortunately. They may have been short staffed that night but not maintaining proper staffing is not a good characteristic of a successful restaurant. Hopefully they will improve! read more

Was here today for lunch with my husband. My husband got the jerk chicken sandwich and I got the short rib sandwich. As others have noted, it is a tiny kitchen but everything is made from scratch so be patient because it is definitely worth the wait. The short rib was amazingly tender and flavorful. It came with a bordelaise sauce on it with swiss, sautéed mushrooms and onions and a side of horseradish aioli and served on focaccia, which I'm normally not a fan of but was the perfect vessel for the juices in the sandwich. Husband said the jerk chicken was one of the best he's ever had. Tons of flavor but not overly spicy. Our bartender/server told us she was new but she was a delight and extremely friendly. read more

Warning ! HORRIBLE FOOD AND SERCVICE - Like worst ever! Visiting Saugerties for New Year's Eve. We wanted to order out local, as anywhere we go we try and support local. Order attempt #1. We order a bunch of food including a lamb dish. The person who took our order even asked how we want the lamb cooked and we responded. I went and picked up the food and brought it home. No lamb, my dinner was missing. I called the restaurant and the owner answers the phone and says they don't have Lamb. I told her we just ordered the lamb, and she said "No you didn't, we would have told you we don't have it if you did" HAVE A NICE NEW YEAR and hung up the phone on me. I had to call back to tell her I still need to order food since I have no dinner. She could have at least apologized and asked if I wanted something different. So I went ahead and ordered a burger. My wife also called in concurrently to order a new meal for my son, the children's burger, because his macaroni and cheese was iced cold and disgusting (I tried it, and it made him nauseous) . So I drove back to the restaurant to pick it all up, paid for my food, took the bag and left. I got home and again NO CHILDRENS BURGER. When we attempted to call back from my wife's phone they would not pick up the phone. When I called hack from my phone they hung up the phone on me 3X before finally picking up. Then the owner says for us not to call back again because we have been so rude to them. Thanks for the Un- HAPPY NEW YEAR. Magic mushrooms and curry soup was gross. This is a photo of the soup. Charming little spot on Main Street which seems like the happening area of Saugerties. The energy was something like funky Hipster meets American down home comfort! We had a nice time here. There was some great music playing in the background. And a mixed & varied crowd. With kind of like a laid back atmosphere. We came for beers and appetizers. I had their fries which were unique and delicious, they were perfectly spiced with this grilled flavor. Then loaded up with melted mozzarella and cheddar. With a green onion garnish on top. The fried Asian spiced wings we got were alright. The server suggested some local beers which we enjoyed. Like Dahlia & Lynn M, I too found a small black hair in my food at the end of the meal. (Eugh) I knew it wasn't mine because it was sticking out of a chunk of melted cheese. (Yes I stopped eating at that point, unfortunately Bc the fries were really good..!) Other than that, I agree with Ray r and Joel s, this is a great little spot (for dinner or drinks or dessert..) It's hipsterish and Classic at the same time. & Just comfortable and cool. Walking into Rock Da Casbah, I didn't expect to have one of the most delicious vegan meals ever. Their prices are amazing!!! The disco fries (vegan cheese of course) were delicious. The mushrooms were out of this world and the tempeh sandwich was actually delicious. I've been vegan for 3 years, and I NEVER order vegan sandwiches because they're usually terrible. This restaurant is an exception. The tie dye cheese cake was pretty decent too. The ambiance is cute and supports local entertainment/bands. Can't recommend enough!! read more

Then the pasta dishes are outstanding. Packed with flavor and ingredients but all in good taste not overdone. The Alfredo sauce was light but was balanced with the jerk chicken and broccoli. It was a flavortown experience! Their homemade pasta is wonderful and the chef deserves praise for his al dente presentation. The service is so warm friendly and I was lucky enough to get a few stories thrown in from the day. It was a great time and great dinner. One last thing...save room for dessert. Stopped by for lunch...and...waitress was very nice and pretty efficient (when we arrived we were the only ones there). The menu is interesting and odd at the same time...no one theme. I ordered the braised short rib sandwich & fries. Sandwich was very good & the focaccia was on point - but the bottom part wasn't toasted, so the sandwich "sogged" through. Fries were hand cut and not over salted like most places. They threw like three pieces of lettuce on the plate -- which confused me...side salad or topping for sandwich? Also ordered kids mac cheese, which was very good (and not some nasty boxed mac & cheese). We were so happy to go to a restaurant with vegan options. The happiness ended there. We each got an Impossible burger complete with a supermarket price sticker still on the tomato slices. Did they wash the sticker or just not wash the tomato at all? Burgers were bland. Shared macaroni and cheese which was completely tasteless, too. Ordered family sized mac n cheese so we would have leftovers. Came in one regular sized round tin and one small one. $48! Completely rip off. So disappointing read more
