Fries, Nuggets, & Dirty Bird Chicken Sandwich
Greg P.

I didn't really know what to expect when going here. I ordered 2 small fries, chicken nuggets, and a dirty bird chicken sandwich. The amount of food I received was insane! I barely even ate half of it. The fries were delicious, though a bit greasy, and were even better when dipped in bbq sauce. The dirty bird had a tasty purple cabbage slaw and delicious cheese. The bun was super soft and flavorful. Though the nuggets looked like they would be overly crispy and mostly breading, they weren't at all. They were absolutely delicious! The restaurant is small, but has a good bit of seating. The staff member working the register was very patient with me as I took some time to look over the menu before ordering. Everything was served in a timely manner and was hot and fresh. I highly recommend checking them out, especially if you are someone who appreciates restaurants that support local farms.

TLDR; Terrible burgers made to be health-conscious (grass-fed, gluten free, locally sourced, etc.); amazing fries tho! This was a stop by after hiking upstate. I appreciated the effort to provide top ingredients but the flavor about every dish was a complete letdown (except for their fries). Order at the countertop at the front and seat yourself at the table with your number. When ready the staff brought out the food. Original Bun (2/5): The original quarter pounder texture was off and had no taste had it not been accompanied with the Bun Sauce that provided some sort of flavor. Dirty Bird (2/5): The breading to the chicken was done well with a great flavor and crunch. However, the chicken itself was very stringy (woody breast). Thereby indicating the low quality of meat that was sourced. Fries (5/5): I asked for the fries well done and they delivered! The fries are very skinny and had a lovely saltiness and crunch to them. The bucket it plenty to share between 2.5 people.

I see where they get their name buns, all buns, no meat. Ordered yard bird-ger it had the Thinest piece of chicken I've ever seen. Wife and kids ordered cheeseburgers, I tried a bite. and it reminded me of cafeteria burgers when I was in grade school. French fries were just a pile of broken pieces of fries. Lady at the counter was not very pleasant. Safe to say we won't be returning.

We all (4) enjoyed our burgers and birds. One daughter and I had a Dirty Bird special and my other daughter and wife had a burger. One large fry was enough for the four of us! The special sauces were great and the pickles delicious. Both girls had an Adirondack Shake (one vanilla and one chocolate). And both enjoyed them. My wife and I didn't care much for the diet pop- which lacked flavor and was too fizzy. We'd come back and recommend friends and family!

We popped into Buns while upstate for a trip to Saugerties. It is very conveniently located - we drove right by it after picking up groceries. The service was good and the restaurant was clean. That said, I don't know that I'd want to eat inside. It seemed like more of a takeout spot, though they did have seating available, with an industrial vibe. The burgers were delicious as were the fries! I also loved that they had fountain soda from a small distributor - Boylan Bottling. The only thing I didn't like was the fry sauce that I paid an upcharge for - no one in my group liked it, do not recommend.

Would go again - Buns Burgers is in a small town so it will be difficult for anyone outside the area to find it yet alone go here. I found it while I was on a trip to Albany, NY. I was deciding between a 3 or 4 stars. Although the burger was quite tasty and was setup good, there wasn't anything special to it. It seems they source the meat from a local farm so that's what have it the 4 stars. It tastes like a quality normal burger. There are a few other options that look interesting but I was in the mood for a burger. The fries were tasty as well. One of the better side of fries from a burger place. Don't forget the bun sauce for something unique to this place. It tastes like a mix of ketchup, mayo, and horseradish? Regardless, it goes well with the fries. They have a small parking lot upfront, which should be enough for the visitors given the location. The interior is casual and has a bar and farm style. The design seems to go well with the local style.

A milkshake made with local Adirondack Creamery ice cream - THIS is how a milkshake is supposed to taste.

It was certainly easy access to I-87, the timing was perfect for lunch, and with ample parking. I was pretty much ignored upon my grand entrance, there being no sign to see attendant for seating, or seat yourself, etc. After several minutes I was seated and handed a menu by a reasonably pleasant server. After approximately 10 minutes she took my order which was a mushroom cheese burger with fries (Photo included) My aforementioned burger was cooked to my preference (medium well) and the fries were hot with a small portion of cole slaw. The portion size was generous and certainly tasty. Several minutes after having been served, my waitress did come by to ensure that all was to my satisfaction, which it was. The restrooms require a key, no doubt to discourage use by non patrons driving past with the need for a biological break. Unfortunately, the men's room was out of order, thus inspection by me was impossible. There is a higher price differential when paying with a credit card which I suppose is a necessity in this high tax state. There appeared to be regulars here as a couple other patrons said things such as "good seeing you" and " see you later." I got what I wanted and the location in respect to the interstate was perfect.

We've yet to run into an issue finding a seat, the food is delicious, the portions are monstrous, and the prices are utterly reasonable in this economy. Their menu offerings veer toward Tex-Mex, and I'd suggest playing in that sandbox, especially for first-timers. In my limited experience, that's where their kitchen truly shines. Special mention for the birria tacos platter, which is plenty of food for two people, unless you're both ravenous. The venue seems to get some reliable lunch traffic, and staff are constantly bustling. On our first visit, we were served by one of the co-owners, who was wonderfully personable and attentive, even when she was very clearly hustling around making sure things were running smoothly. During our most recent visit, she wasn't present, and I felt like we spent a good bit of time trying to flag down a server--both to put in an order, and again when we were ready to pay our bill. I've certainly heard from multiple proprietors in the region that staffing is a bit of a headache, so it stands to reason that Main Street Restaurant isn't immune. This is a lovely representation of the charming local gems you can find in Saugerties. Considering its small geographical footprint, this hamlet punches way about its weight class in terms of character and quality.

Orange is usually my go-to if it's on a menu and that night they had one option--slightly tangy and tart while still very smooth... My husband's calf's liver was cooked perfectly medium rare, a nice thick cut too and it came with a tall creamy dollop of whipped potatoes. My jumbo scallops were tender and surrounded by what seemed like rings of flavor...the center was creamy local corn, then leek & bacon ragout, and lastly a perimeter of basil pesto. I loved the little pile of sautéed chanterelle mushrooms on the side as well--They paired well dipped into the calf's liver demi glace reduction. Dessert was a bitter chocolate pot de crème that I finished off with the last bit of my 2nd glass of wine. Perfect. If I'm in the area again I will definitely be back!

Now that we live here, it feels like we're finally getting to savor the place instead of just passing through. Recently, hubs had been talking non-stop about Maestri's and planned to bring him for his Dec. birthday. But, he had gotten so sick, dinner never happened. Life moved on, his b'day came and went and so did the holidays. And just like that, the moment finally arrived. Long overdue, but worth the wait. Now mind you, we have another Italian restaurant we've been to numerous times closer to us in Woodstock- but they don't compare to the rich and hearty food here. Stepping inside here felt cozy and warm especially with all the snow we've been getting in the Catskills. Even the entrance alone has an old-world charm. From the jump, service was on point. My sangria was potent and hubs' Cosmos, held their own too. The caprese salad starter was a small letdown. When our server hyped beefsteak tomatoes, my expectations were set and plum tomatoes showed up instead. Still tasty, but once you promise beefsteak tomatoes, that's what I'm picturing. Despite that, my cod dinner in a garlicky tomato sauce, was everything and hubs loved every bite of his medium rare Delmonico steak. Dessert sealed the deal. When our server mentioned the chocolate mousse, I asked if it was a true chocolate mousse, his confident "yes" was all I needed. And wow- it was decadent. Hubs thought he'd never find a steakhouse worthy like what we used to experience when we lived in Westchester- but he just found his spot up in these boonies. As for me, that mousse didn't just end the meal, it took it over. Plus service from Nonna Maestri (Gina) rocks big time!!!
