La Capital Tacos is the place to go for genuine street tacos in Troy. Every time I've gone the food…read morehas tasted fresh, and the tacos/burritos have been delicious. I can put down quite a bit of food so if I order the "three traditional tacos" then I'm usually left wanting just one more... so I typically go for the burrito to try and fill up a bit more. The chorizo is delicious and seasoned very well. The salsa verde that is served with each taco/burrito is also delicious. During winter they put up some "bubble" tents outside with heaters. They don't have much seating inside and if the restaurant is busy then you might be caught in a pickle... but I've been lucky enough to find a free table here reliably. I've been visited by out-of-state friends a few times and I typically introduce them to this restaurant (as one of my local favorites) and they usually love it.

La Capital Tacos serves up some of the most authentic tacos in the Capital Region. We visited after…read moreI read the reviews and the experience exceeded my expectations. I was so glad to have dinner there recently. Delicioso! My friend ordered the three steak taco dinner while I had the three chicken taco dinner. Then, we traded one. The tacos are served on small corn tortillas. It generally takes more than one taco to feel full. The steak tacos came with wonderful melted cheese and a beef dipping sauce. The chicken tacos came with salsa verde, plenty of cilantro and chopped up red onions. We each had a Margarita which are awesome, too. The staff is small but friendly and efficient. There isn't a lot of seating inside the restaurant. Just a few tables. Most of the seating is actually in the outdoor patio. In cold weather, large clear heated plastic bubbles or igloos are installed on the patio. Each holds a table and enough seating for several people. It's incredibly cute. There's even table service, but most people ordered take out and then walked over to eat in the bubbles. There's also parking on premises which makes the dining experience very convenient. We ate-in and had a blast. I look forward to coming back. They don't take reservations but guests are encouraged to call ahead to ask about seating.

What was I thinking giving this place 4 stars. Such great value, friendly service, and the food is…read moredelicious. Definitely worth a stop in Monticello. Had the cheese nachos this time as well as our faves from past visits. House-made flour tortilla chips blanketed in Mexican cheeses, black beans, guacamole, pickled jalapenos, tomatoes, lettuce and generous lashings of crema. Yes, the tomatoes were those pale imitation things and the lettuce is shredded iceberg, but it all worked, especially with the trio of house salsas. Was baby shark coming from a phone at the next booth over? Yes, but somehow it didn't matter, the food was so comforting. They bake Mexican pastries there too, and it seems like they've added pizza.

Most visits we've done take out, but recently we dined in and the dishes and had a great experience too. The front of house and back of house service hustles hard here. The steak dishes have always been a stand out. The tortas are wonderful. Try anything with the handmade tortillas. They're out of this world. Aguas Frescas are delicious and not overly sugary or powdery. And most recently, we had a seafood soup special that was divine. And while you dine or wait for take out, admire the wonderful artisan designs on the furniture!
